Reverting back to Nougat STABLE build from Oreo Beta - OnePlus 3T Questions & Answers

Hey everyone. As the title says, can i revert back to stable version of OS Nougat by flashing the OxygenOS 4.5.1 ROM? (Its 1.46 GB) I'm unrooted and on the stock recovery and bootloader is locked. Can I simply do a local upgrade? If not, whats the procedure?
I'm asking because the guides i found on this topic mentions a special build of OS which is the Open Beta version, but i don't want that. I want to revert to the stable version of OS on my OP 3T.

You cannot revert back to Nougat/Marshmallow directly from the Open Beta. There is a special firmware package to be flashed and there is partial loss of data.
As quoted on https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-3t/how-to/coming-update-oos-based-7-1-t3564240
"Notice:
If you want to revert back to the last Open Beta N build (OnePlus 3 Open beta 24 or OnePlus 3T Open Beta 15) you will need to flash the special build provided below. Because of the nature of downgrading from a major version, this will cause you to lose partial data.
Instructions and Info:
The build will wipe app and cache data, but Internal Storage will be saved (ie: pictures and files)
Users who revert their device back to the special build can still OTA update the device to Android O build at a later date."
You can't install the stable version directly, only via the installation of the special build, then installation of the stable package.

Are you sure that if u have TWRP then u can't flash directly the stable OOS rom?

I'm not sure about being on TWRP and flashing an older build, but since OP is on Stock, he'll have to follow the instructions as given by OnePlus.

Stable more smooth than beta, Why?

I installed with dirty flash the latest beta from TWRP..
Now my device is less smooth... Before I have 4.1.6
Maybe must clean flash?
Why?
In beta ROMs there's usually more debugging (logging) active which could make the phone less smooth and also drain more battery. It's because beta is for testing new potentially unstable code.
How I can disable it?

I'm just checking... if you move from a stable OOS ROM to a beta, you have to do a clean flash. But that doesn't mean you have to delete everything in "Internal Storage".
You can use the (root) app called "L-Speed" to disable debugging and such very easily. It can also be used to change other parameters to improve performance and battery life, without the need to type special commands into a Terminal.

Why did you dirty flash? You didn't read the instructions? Changing from beta to stable requires clean flash. Also, like someone said, beta could have more logs. It is normal to be less smooth.
"Note: If you flash this Open Beta build, you’ll receive Open Beta OTAs (but not official OTAs). You’ll need to manually (clean) flash back to our official builds to continue receiving official OTAs. Rolling back to official OxygenOS versions require wiping data and cache."

Well.... The OP is going from stable to beta. So...
But, what's needed might be a clean flash to clear up any issues.

Local upgrade from open beta 17 to stable oxygen os 4.5.1

Hey guys, I am using open beta 17.. Android Oreo.. Nd I realised that open beta version consumes more battery so I decided to roll.back to 4.5.0 stable os... nd since I was having the zip file in my internal storage, I selected to local upgrade from software updates in my one plus 3t ..
The process started nd after few seconds it went to recovery, and it said that " updating, please wait"... nd after few more seconds, it said that "upgrade failed" ... reboot
help me...
You'll need to flash the special open beta to go back to nougat and then flash the stock build. Before flashing the stock build, clean wipe.
You cannot revert back to Nougat/Marshmallow directly from the Open Beta. There is a special firmware package to be flashed and there is partial loss of data.

That special firmware package totally wiped my phone to zero, all files on the internal drive were wiped and it formated it to f2fs, I have 128gb internal storage, after the boot up it only showed 30gb (afair), I lost everything and I was devastated so please everyone be very careful with that so called "Special firmware", also this is just my experience with that special build other people's experience may be different, all the best to everyone, cheers.

Official OTA Oreo How Can I Install TWRP and Root?

Hello dear community. Today, i just recieved my OP3T and I am super happy. Since I am a manian with new android versions + root + xposed, what i did is charge my new device and then start experimenting.
Firstly, i used this tool (https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-3t/development/toolkit-oneplus-3t-toolkit-unlock-t3507729) to unlock bootloader, flash TWRP.
Then I used some VPN to change my location to Canada, and get the Oreo OTA.
Oreo OTA replaced TWRP, so I did some research to find out if its safe to reinstall TWRP 3.1.1, but i stumbled uppon some contradicting opinions both for TWRP and for Root. In the guides I read, some users commented that it might be very dangerous to either reinstall TWRP and/or supersu, so since I am not a guru, and my technical knowledge is kinda limited, I thought I'd create this thread before doing something stupid.
So, is it safe to reinstall TWRP in the latest Oreo OTA? (ONEPLUS A3003_28_171116)? Which version of TWRP do you suggest?
Is it safe to use the latest supersu?
Also, should i do a factory reset after the update?
I know for sure that xposed is not available for Oreo, so I wont be asking anything for it here.
Thanks in advance!
For Oreo, the latest TWRP is not recommended. You need the bluspark TWRP for Oreo. Here is the link. https://forum.xda-developers.com/devdb/project/?id=15934#downloads
Careful, there are two Bluspark TWRP, one for nougat and one for Oreo. Also it is unified for both op3 and op3t
I do not know about SuperSU but the beta version of Magisk works on Oreo. The stable version does not work yet. Here is the link for beta https://forum.xda-developers.com/apps/magisk/beta-magisk-v13-0-0980cb6-t3618589
I am using the beta Magisk and BluSpark TWRP atm. It works fine. I did a clean flash using the full Oreo zip file (1.5gb). I think you can find this as a download on the XDA forum since OnePlus has not put it online yet. DO NOT CLEAN FLASH THE PARITAL OTA.

Upgrade from Oxygen OS5.0.8 (Android Version 8.0.0) to the latest Android 9.0.3

Hello, I used to modify my android a lot, but it's been a while now. So before I soft brick my device, I'd like to get some advice.
My OT3T used to have a custom TWRP, and rooted with Magisk. Today, I found out, that for some reason, it has rollbacked back to default recovery and the root no longer works. My bootloader is still unlocked though.
So questions. Which version of TWRP would be the best for the new 9.0.3? Can I flash the latest TWRP version straight away or I have to install an older version and then update it?
Which version of Magisk? I guess the latest will do.
Then if the TWRP is installed properly, I guess, I can just follow the guideline from this thread: https://forum.xda-developers.com/on...l-oxygenos-5-0-1-android-8-0-t3728119/page135

Just flash the latest version of TWRP (3.3.1-0) and the latest stable version of Magisk (19.3). Then follow the instructions.
Make sure you backup your user data (/sdcard) to your PC before updating OOS.

[CLOSED] How to switch from OxygenOS 11 Beta firmware to OxygenOS 11 Stable firmware without deleting data and keeping root.

Please read all indications before proceeding.
Proceed always at your own risk!!!
I did the test to perform the transition from OpenBeta firmware to stable release, using the keep_data file without deleting data, and keeping the root already present on the phone.
The steps are simple, first of all you need to:
Download the complete firmware file
Download the keep_data apk file
save them in the phone's memory, after which you proceed with the local update (ignore the data deletion warning) and once the installation is completed you DO NOT NEED TO RESTART THE PHONE (if you restart now all data will be erased).
Now we install the keep_data.apk and run it, confirming that we do not want to delete the data, even now we DO NOT RESTART but we open magisk, select the "install" button next to the magisk version already present and select "install in the inactive slot (after OTA)", proceed with the installation and when completed, we can finally reboot.
We will have our Oneplus with OxygenOS 11 Stable firmware, root and magisk installed and all our data present.
I tested everything on Oneplus 7 going from OpenBeta4 to OxygenOS 11.0.1.1, I still recommend making a backup of all your data before proceeding, safety first of all.
TESTED ONLY WITH OXYGENOS 11 FIRMWARE.
The keep_data application, has been released for use with OxygenOS 11, I have no way of knowing if it is also possible to use it with OxygenOS 10.
I was a tester and everything went smoothly, no problems or abnormal behavior but
it is important to remember that proceed always at your own risk!!!
full wipe is always recommended in the transition from beta to stable and vice versa.
Good luck!
Original reference source for the keep_data.apk file, present on the oneplus forum here.
UPDATE: the guide is valid and working even using the rollback package firmware necessary to switch from OpenBeta 5 to OxygenOS 11.0.1.1
Proceed always at your own risk!!!
If I wanna try this, it means that I have to install the rollback build from here and then install the keep_data.apk, right?

I didn't use the rollback package, I used the standard 11.0.1.1 firmware.
I believe that, with rollback package, wipe is done before firmware installation so keep_data apk would be useless.
However, using the standard firmware file I have not encountered any problems.
UPDATE: keep_data apk work also with rollback package firmware.

Alright. I already downloaded the full 11.0.1.1 firmware but now a new problem arise in which it doesn't allow me to downgrade as per the attached image. My device is OnePlus 7 Pro and currently on Open Beta 5. Is there any workaround for this?

Unfortunately this is normal, OpenBeta 5 is newer than stable 11.0.1.1.
In this situation, the options are full wipe with the rollback firmware package, another option is to wait for a new stable firmware release, that will be newer than openbeta 5, another option is to check if the procedure I wrote also works with the firmware rollback but I have no information about it.

Update from the Oneplus forum:
the guide is valid and working even using the rollback firmware necessary to switch from OpenBeta 5 to OxygenOS 11.0.1.1
Tried this just now and it works flawlessly! Thanks bud!!!! Now to wait until the pixel 6 comes out and switch to that
FYI for those who want, the new stable update V11.0.2.1 can be updated over Beta 5 without having to use the rollback update and using the keep_data apk works to avoid wiping data when flashing.
Hello is that working for Update from 11.0.0.2 to 11.0.2.1 without losing root ?

Yes, work only with pre-rooted phone, to retain root after a firmware update
thanks for your help
it's worked perfectly
Just used this to rollback from Open Beta 5 to stable, thank you!!
Will it work with a prerooted phone?
I mean I am just on beta build (didn't root). Can I install the stable firmware and use the app to retain the data? Or is root a pre-requisite?

Root privileges is not required to perform the firmware change while retaining user data, just ignore the magisk installation step and reboot phone after running the keep_data application

I have a new problem now. Local upgrade is not allowing me to install the 11.0.0.2.GM21AA firmware. I am currently running O2_Beta_5.
Local upgrade says "Version of selected package is lower than that of current system, hence downgrading not allowed".
Please help.

You cannot update with "Local upgrade" feature, if the new firmware is older than the firmware installed on the phone.
If you currently have Openbeta 5 firmware, you can install the stable 11.0.2.1 or the latest 11.0.3.1.
The downgrade is still possible but requires a specific firmware package and the complete data wipe.
Thread closed on request of OP @dianoandr as the OP doesn't possess the device any longer!
