I've had my Nexus 4 for about two weeks, so everything should be synced up already and I can't blame it for the battery drain. In the battery settings, I noticed the Android OS would keep my Nexus 4 "awake" for almost the majority of the phone's battery life.
I unchecked one setting in Google Now and the keep awake time is significantly reduced. My battery is also lasting longer.
1. Go into Google Now settings (scroll all the way down in Google Now to see settings button)
2. Click Voice
3. Uncheck Hotword detection (make sure it's off - I also unchecked Block offensive words and Personal Recognition)
4. Reboot phone
Albeit, I'm not a heavy user like some of you guys, but doing this has given me more confidence in the battery. I have Google Now, location history, GPS, and sync enabled. My brightness is set to Auto and haptic feedback/NFC are off. My service is T-Mobile and I rarely use Wifi.
I think the Hotword detection was keeping the phone awake to listen for the word "Google."
Let me know if you guys see a change in battery life.
Thanks.
Thanks for the tip, giving it a try now.
It only listens for the word "Google" when you're on the Google Now / Google Search app. This is just a placebo; you're seeing the effect you want to see.

What he said. I don't know where the OP came from this idea that Google Now is a culprit of battery life. Where is your evidence of this?
I know that if you have Google Now with cards on with constant GPS on, it would drain. But if you turn off the cards you don't want (or all of them) then you won't have any problems.
Personally for me, I only leave the tracking of my orders on. I leave hotword and personalization on and its fine.
Battery life for me yesterday, http://zephik.com/upload/Screenshot_2012-12-14-19-05-58.png -- I don't think that this is causing any problems.
I know when using Assist Driving I need to leave GPS on or else I have to keep toggling GPS for it to actually work while driving which ruins the point of the app. How much of a battery drain do you think the Moto X has while leaving GPS on, I have read it has a low powered sensor and was wondering if anyone had any information.

Android is the only mobile OS where you HAVE to switch off GPS when not using it, if you wish to get acceptable battery life. ios has a VERY simple yet effective method for managing GPS by simply allowing the user to select which apps are allowed to use GPS. The user selected apps are only allowed GPS access when the user accesses those apps. As soon as you leave the app, if it tries to access GPS ios says NO THANKS JEFF. Battery drain while using GPS is also less than half that of Android in my experience. It's because Google makes a lot of it's money from data mining (collecting your personal info and location to sell to advertisers) the google services are constantly wanting to know your location so that Google can make their ad dollars with complete disregard to your battery life/user experience.
While I love Android, it does have many shortcomings, and it's incredibly idiotic GPS management system, or lack thereof, is one of them.
If you use GPS a lot, and you're dead set on using Android, you can get an NFC tag and set it to switch on GPS once the tag is in range. There are various apps that can do this, I forget which one my buddy uses.
I leave gps on all the time and have excellent battery life. Would it be better if i turned it off? Perhaps. I'd get even better battery life if I turned the entire phone off. What is the point of having a feature rich phone if you have to mess with turning things on and off all the time?
You can opt out of most of the location services mentioned in this thread. If you do that; gps only uses power when an app requests a location. The driving assist is a great app with great features; one of which is never having to worry about turning it on and off. Turn it on and enjoy the phone's features.

You can do the same with Tasker.
You don't have to turn GPSooff, ever. The only time the receiver is pulling power is when you see the icon in your pull down bar. If that's not there, GPS is totally off as if you toggled it off yourself. No power draw. On a n4 I can lose 3% over 8 hours idle, GPSleft on.
A rogue app is the only thing that could be problematic, if its initiating the gGPS while screen is off and you'renot ppayingattention. But this is rare almost extinct if yusing any mainstream app.
I found myself customizing my new device as always from day one. I'm still running rootless with great satisfaction: one ui in superb in managing screen dimensions, good lock 2019 gives me the perk to optimize my multitasking, thanks to the community i run great gestures interface. I use no compromise: always on high performance mode, WQHD+, 4G+ always on, sync with 2 push emails 90% of the time it's on, lot of Bluetooth devices connected specially when I'm home (headphones, computer, amazon echo, bluetooth earbuds). I made a very light debloat with adhell that counts about 20 apps disabled (including all bixby services, which don't drain much battery tough).
I have about 180GB occupied out of 512, roughly 2.5/3 gb of ram always available and no heavy app optimization services enabled (just adaptive battery as far as I can tell). I normally DON'T close apps from multitasking. I make heavy usage of multiwindow specially from messaging apps trough notification bubbles. Always on display only when I'm home. You can see below my usage which may vary from day to day but consistently delivers incredible performances and very exciting battery results.
The device is an SM-N960F 8/512, so it's the exynos one.
In following posts I'm posting other days of battery I have record of in as much detail as I could get at the time.
Day 2
Day 3
Same Setup here.
My Exynos last 3 Days with 7Hrs Screen On, or 2 Days with 8-9Hrs Screen On.
Right ATM iam on :
76% Battery left.
Usage Time : 20Hrs and 46 Min.
Screen On : 2Hrs and 3 Min.
Mixed Usage between Wifi and 4G.
But just using Samsung Browser, Youtube and Whatsapp. No Games or whatever.
Maybe i can reach this Time 8 Hrs Screen On with 4 Days of usage. But i think, maximum is 3 Days with 7Hrs.
I dont fight for battery. Iam just a light user. And i did debloat and use routines (Android 9). No enerysaver. 1080P
Exynos here.
Exynos here too
4G/4G+ always active outdoors, WiFi at home
Screen brightness on manual, above 60% most of the time
1440p active, I refuse to downgrade the display to 1080p
Bluetooth on moderately, headphones & computer
Chrome as my browser
Social apps include Twitter & WhatsApp
"Disabled" a couple services through adb (pm uninstall) method ~ not including Bixby although I never use it.. ever
Always on display is set to "Tap To Show"
Consistently leave my house with 100% battery early hours 6-8am & return home with 30% (or higher) without fail
My charging method varies, I either fast charge it in the evening & got to bed with it on 100% and wake up with it on 97%+ or I wirelessly charge overnight and wake with it on 100% using the official Samsung convertible charger
Overall, I couldn't be happier with its battery life.

May I ask do you doing any restoration, or data transfer from Smart Switch, Samsung Cloud or Google backup?
Or you just set it as a fresh new device?
I NEVER fast charge because I really have no need with this battery performance. @maple_mak I never wiped the device since i bought it, I made a dirty flash via ota for upgrading to Pie/OneUi, then installed as zip all the betas until I upgraded to stable and had 3 security patches from that moment. At the time I tried to fresh install as many things as possible but of course my samsung account and google account synced many data. If you have problems with battery I suggest you to choose wisely the apps you use and monitor their battery usage carefully. You can use gsam for that. The idea is that you need the device to do as less things as possible both in background and foreground: any automated activity drains battery, use features only if you strictly need them.
if you really can't understand what your battery problem is, I suggest a fresh install of the OS and most important after that a good set up of the system without installing "garbage". With garbage I also mean things that are useful to you but drain battery and execute tasks continously
No idea how you manage that. I've already dropped 12% in 2 hours ? this is my first Samsung since the S7 Edge, I probably won't get another after this. Not a fan of OneUI and the countless preinstalled junk apps that I never use lol

Oh I know. Just can't be bothered having to do it lol rather they weren't there to begin with. I mainly bought it for the stylus, but I rarely use it. I think a smaller device in the future will suit better

You're welcome! I hope you got a good deal - I'm under contract with samsung so I will switch for few bucks to the note 10 as it gets on the market, tough the idea of staying on this note 9 for a year more doesn't hurt me at all. Enjoy your new machine
Since last 2 Pie Updates..batterylife getting closer and closer to Oreo. A bit more optimazion and we are back on Oreo runtime.

Hi, Would you mind sharing the 20 or so apps that you disabled? I'm not getting anywhere near your battery usage, and it would be great to improve it.
Thanks

Yes! It's not all the story since the apps consumption is negligible if you don't really use them, for instance be careful to disable functions that use sensor like the ones in advanced features, try to use as less bluetooth perks with the s-pen, careful with location and try to stay below 80% brightness. Charge without fast charging and stay as much as you can between 15%-85% battery.
Here the apps/services i disabled:
"Bixby" voice wake-up
Apps edge
Bixby home
Bixby Service
Bixby Vision
Bixby Voice
Bixby Voice stub
BixbyVision Framework
Bookmark Provider
Calendar (I use the Google one)
Clipboard edge
CoolEUKor (it's a font... whatever)
Customization Service (be careful this can mess up some elements of the ui like multitasking. I use good lock apps and have no problems. You can always disable Customization Service from your samsung account manager even if you leave the app active on your device: https://www.samsung.com/us/account/customization-service/ )
Edge Screen
Facebook
Facebook App Installer
Facebook App Manager
Facebook Services
Finance (yahoo)
Galaxy essential widget
Gear VR Service
Google Play Movies & TV
Google Play Music
Google VR Services
Instagram
Kids Home Installer
Linkedin
OneDrive
People Edge
PowerPoint
Samsung Galaxy Friends
Samsung Internet Panel
Secure Wi-Fi
Sports (yahoo)
SystemUIBixby2
Tasks Edge
Wearable Manager Installer
Youtube (I use another app)
upday
of course you can enable the ones you want if you use them
I also changed my dns to 1.1.1.1, don't know the impact of it in terms of battery
Black theme to everything you are comfortable with
Setting to auto the always on display or using the feature that doesn't allow the phone to turn on in pocket use the ambient light sensor and proximity sensor - this drains some battery
Try to block as many notifications from apps as you can
My suggestions could never end XD try navigate every menu and value every option. Shortcuts don't really matter but the things related to sensors or automation consume battery. Every little thing you can adjust to your real need make the difference
Thanks for the tips @Sprov
Did you uninstall them via adb or just put them to sleep?
DNS, you just using an app for that?
Thanks
I use adhell both for disable apps and change my dns. It's a bit tricky to setup fhe first time, there's an official guide, with some passages peculiar for the note 9. You can search for the thread here on xda. You need also to get a knox license from samsung, all of this requires about 30 minutes the first time. Main use of adhell is ad blocking at system level but it has a lot of features. If you're only interested in dns and disabling apps you can do it with adb with the latter, for the DNS there's an option in the Connection settings on the phone: in More Connection Settings tap on Private DNS and type 1dot1dot1dot1.cloudflare-dns.com
Adhell doesn't work anymore because samsung changed criteria to get KNOX license. From now on I will use package disabler pro OR ADB to disable system apps and services, for ADS blocking I changed the DNS from the "more connection settings", you can use the one from ADguard or get a customizable one from nextdns.com
Man, I can't believe you're getting such awesome battery life from the SM-N960F. I have the same device (512GB variant) and I barely get 3hours SOT. I think I could get more SOT if I really pushed for it but I don't use my phone as often as some. I just don't see why it should be down to less than 15% when I go to bed (11-12pm) after taking it off charge in the morning at around 8am!
I did a google drive app restore when I set up the device so maybe this is causing the battery drain? or is there a chance I have a faulty device? I am still within my 30 day return period with the seller so should I return it?
Forgot to attach screenshot.
So I love this phone but the battery life is poor to say the least with my usage.
I was wondering if we could discuss any realistic battery life tips, which are different from the usual dark mode, turn off x feature etc.
For example, I was thinking of using Macrodroid or Tasker to turn off mobile data when connected to WiFi and vica versa. (I'm not sure the the OS does this anyway though)
Any other thoughts, ideas?
I always turn off send usage and reports/whatever for every Google app. Back when I had my S7 edge, it would run out of battery by 5pm. just checking those off, especially the main Google account made it last until like 10. Been doing it ever since. For the main Google account one, go to settings, Google where it says services & preferences under it, then hit the hamburger menu on the top right, usage and diagnostics, then switch it off. I also do this for the Google app, Gboard, and any others that have it.
Switch off digital wellbeing too. Just search for usage access in settings, find digital wellbeing, then flip it off. That made a big difference for me as well.
My battery lasts from 6am until well after 10pm. It hits 15% around then. This is under fairly heavy usage.

Excellent. Thank you for that. I didn't even think about that. Both turned off.
Morning all
Probably a silly question but while Bluetooth is on - myy s10 doesnt go to sleep and the battery drains very fast.
With it off its fine.
Unfortunately I use BT for my sony wireless buds and Galaxy watch.
Are there any tweaks to help out with battery life?
Its connected to the watch all the time while im wearing it so is this something i need to get used to?

Hmmn. I keep mine on to connect to my Xiaomi Mi Band 5 though I notice it Bluetooth does turn off occasionally. Hadn't noticed S10e draining faster (it does seem to still go to sleep) but maybe I haven't been paying enough attention. I'll be interested in any replies.
Try disabling all power management.
Load Karma Firewall. Android Services and Goggle Play Services* are big offenders.
Unfortunately if your on Q or higher Karma's logging feature doesn't work. This shows you real time what's hogging the internet and battery.
Another reason I'm still on Pie.
* enable briefly to access Gmail etc.
I have been using Better Battery Stats to keep an eye on it.
While BT is on the CPU sits at 1.95 at over 90% of the time I've tested it against.
With BT off - it does goto sleep and battery is loads better.
I need it on for the reasons above but its a right hog.

Disabled all power management.
Try clearing apk data and going back to factory load.
Clear system cache on boot menu.
Disable any 3rd party apks other than Wearables using bt.
Start locking down apks that don't really need internet access with Karma Firewall* until you find the hog. Probably a system apk and the drain may actually be from constant internet traffic. Misreporting which apk is the culprit isn't uncommon as many have related dependencies.
*if you're running Q or higher it's logging function is disable I believe. It works fine with Pie and is an important tool. Otherwise you'll need to do it the hard way. Thanks Google, you suck.
Android Services, Google Play Services, Google Backup Transport and Google Framework are all hog candidates. Best to package block the last two and clear apk data on all but Android services as needed. This what I did to take my 10+ running on Pie.
