S-pen features with third party keyboards. - Samsung Galaxy Note 8 Questions and Answers

Hello. Can I somehow enable Live Message and handwriting-to-text if i switch to a third party keyboard?
Thank you.

Yes. You can open the spen menu when you want to create a live message and when you done with it you will see near to SAVE the app that you currently can send it. Example in image.
You can also use the handwriting option with other keyboards.

[Q] Split screen on LMT

I've been trying to use the LMT pie controls to replace my normal navigation bar, and it works great. Except for I can't seem to get the "longpress back" to launch the split screen like it does on the normal nav bar. Has anyone else tried this and got it working?
I use LMT and have been since I got the phone but if you use the "qslide" feature its the same thing basically except you get to move the window where you want to. Or there is a an apk mod in the apps and themes section someone made called Flex Multi Window that allows you to modify the multi window app (or long press back) apps to your liking and you can install that then assign to the button if your liking.

S-pen "direct pen input" problem...

Hello
I am having a problem with the "direct pen input" setting. I have it enabled. I have also two languages at Samsung keyboard.
But when I hover spen over a text field nothing happens. The spen icon do not pop up. I have tried at contacts app or at sms app.. it only works when I am inside the secret folder Knox.
Everything else works fine. For example I use handwriting within the Samsung keyboard without any problem.
Is there anything I can do except factory reset?
Does anyone else has seen this problem?

Maybe I did not make it very clear...
Direct pen input is the option to use handwriting for text fields. When enabled you hover spen over a textbox and an icon with "T" appears. When you click it you can write with spen and your handwritting is recognized to text.. This icon does not show up for me. it only pop up when I am inside the secure folder.
Generally for "direct pen input" to work I have to download at least one language in samsung keyboard and enable the option thought settings.
Maybe someone else has seen this problem.. Till now I have not read anything, especially for note 8.
Thanks
I don't have a real issue with it. Depends on the text field as it recognizes some but not others. But even if it doesn't give the icon it defaults over to the Pen entry to write when I tap on the text box.
Thanks... It seems to be a corrupted settings database.. I resolve it with factory reset.. Unfortunatelly..
Hope it will not happen again!

EMUI 9 Gestures sucks?

I was ao excited for Android 9 but right after updating to EMUI 9, I was disappointed to see how pathetic and useless is back button gestures, especially when you are on a keyboard screen. Is it just me or you guys think so too?
1) it is difficult to get used to this stupif "back" gesture.
2) it is slow.
3) No quick switching between 2 apps instantly?
Will they fix it in future updates or we are stuck with this forever?
I have to agree on this issue. Gestures on EMUI 9 are really bad. I've stayed with "button bellow screen" gestures.
1. It is really difficult to use "back" gesture especially when using any kind of phone case.
2. Using "back to homescreen" gesture firstly shows recent apps and then moves to homescreen ...
3. No quick switch between 2 apps - that's truly bad.
4. Missing gesture to move "left <-> right" in recent menu with a finger
2. No. I does take you directly to home screen, by swiping up without any pause. (If I understand your issue correctly)
4. Thanks for reminding me that.
5. Keyboard is at such low bottom, it becomes difficult to type (sometime).
I wish they could have copy pasted Apple's gesture. Easy life!
I like them very much actually...

FluidNG is your friend:

I'm not running under pie EMUI9 yet and I use
Nova launcher
Fluid ng
It work awesome. All I miss is switching between app like on ios or zuk z2 pro ui with finger print front. Sad EMUI 9 doesn't have a such function.

YES! But I am not talking about keys on top rather KEYS on the buttom. Like SPACE key and other buttons are so close to the bottom end. Apple has a better Implementation (by sliding down the emoji icons etc). Don't you think?
P.S: I'm on Gboard.

Hi! That is google assistant.
Hmmm the new gestures are a bit tricky aren't they but I quite like them so I'll persevere a bit, else there's plenty of other navigation methods to choose from.
People says the gestures don't work that well when using Nova Launcher.
Anyway, you should try Fluid Navigation Gestures, you can customize it as you wish!

In my opinion, if there is anything this front mounted fingerprint reader/home button is good for it's the "off-screen navigation key" - removes unnecessary icons from the screen making it cleaner and works like a charm. Using it since day 1 with this phone and prefer it over the new gestures.
I can't say the new gestures are really bad, I believe one can get used to them, although the swipe right/left for "back" is tricky if you are using a bulky case (Otterbox etc.)
I'm using Nova Launcher and the Pie gestures are broken. It always shows the recent apps first when exiting from an app. That should really be fixed...
