Cell Standby Drain with Stock 6.0.1 Even in Airplane Mode - Verizon Motorola Droid Turbo Q&A, Help & Troublesh

i have a xt1254 with locked BL and stock 6.0.1 MCG24.251-5-5. I have suffered from battery draining by cell standby since I updated to 6.0.1. Have anyone seen this and can anyone help?
Here are what I have tried but none of them works:
1. Erase cache, user erea and reflash the stock package.
2. Root, install magisk, install xposed, install mobileradioactivefix.
3. Switch to airplane mode with only Wi-Fi enabled.

I came across battery drain caused by wifi and managed to remove it after resetting network config. You may see the below page for information, and in fact quite a few similar threads are on google:
https://www.androidpit.com/android-marshmallow-problems-and-how-to-fix-them
It occurs to me that after resetting the network config, the problem will come back sooner or later that need a re-reset. And I am not very sure if it works on your cellular problem indeed. But hope the above helps.
BTW, may I take the opportunity to ask a related question, anyone using a stock up-to-date firmware (mine is BL unlocked but not rooted), and the same feeling as me that, while every part of the system show that the cellular is disabled and the device is in airplane mode, the battery performance is about the same as that when the cellular is on? My usage pattern is that, I unplugged the device at 7am, and on working day morning, I turn on cellular for less than an hour and the rest of time in airplane mode, and get to around 90% at 1pm. While I was on outdoor work that requires me to turn on cellular the whole morning, the battery level is about 88%. Given that my usage pattern in both scenarios are quite similar (minimal usage of phone during working hours and basically no voice call in the latter case), is the difference between airplane mode on and off little as that?

[Q]Heavy battery drain when on WiFi

Hello everyone, there are many, many threads for our phone, so it is basically impossible to properly search and see if this question has been asked before and so here it goes.
I've tried many roms for my device (I call it Sir Hangsalot), and I have noticed that on almost every rom there is a huge issue for my device to keep itself in a deep sleep state when the WiFi is on. The ratio is approximately 70/30% awake vs. deep sleep (I am talking when the screen is off and the phone is not being used). Then I have tested with the WiFi off (mobile data still on, it is always on since I have an unlimited data plan) and the phone enters deep sleep as usual, but this time it stays in deep sleep and battery is discharging properly. From the moment I switch on the WiFi the same behaviour emerges again. This is the last night's situation. New battery (1 month old, 1700 mAh), fully charged at 1 AM, at 7 AM 54% left with the WiFi on. The night before, same conditions, WiFi off and mobile data on, at 7 AM 91% left.
So, my question is: what the hell is wrong with our WiFi which is causing this huge battery drain and is there a fix (rom, kernel, module, script, anything)?
Regards.

Sorry for late reply.
Go to Settings > Wifi > Advanced settings and uncheck the box "Network notification" ( Notify me when an open network is available) in wifi settings, also uncheck "Scanning always available" .
Use Greenify app to freeze apps ( apps frozen will stay closed until you open them again).
These should reduce battery draining.
Thanks for the reply. I always turn off those things in wifi advanced settings, and regarding greenify I am not sure that it will help since I have this issue in every rom, even in a barebone rom without installing any app or gapps. I thought that maybe google play services could be the culprit here, but even without gapps I have a severe battery drain when wifi is on. When using mobile data everything is just fine. I really cannot find an answer for this.

Stock jb bloated should also drain much battery when there is a network connection.
I don't have more ideas... But why you keep wifi on overnight? Do you have facebook app/ what'sapp / viber / etc. ? These drain battery alot, that's why you need to greenify them.
And why you use wifi since you have unlimited data plan?
To be honest, my battery drain too when i have wifi on, but not so much. In this evening, i will put my wifi on and i will let you know how much battery i have left tomorrow.
It will be interesting to see your results, thanks. I do indeed have WhatsApp installed (after setting up my device completely) but the behaviour is the same regardless, even after fresh install and no other than the core system apps (stock, cm 10, 11, 12, aosp, carbon, vanir, LS, tried them all). Regarding leaving wifi on all the time it is the matter of habit. Since I've been using an android phone from the start (from cupcake on Huawei U8220 to lollipop on a few devices) and I have never had this kind of problem. Oh, well, I will try to keep it off and turn it on only when I need faster internet speed (my data plan is unlimited but it does not have download speed as my wifi).
Cheers!

Terrible Standy Time on US T-Mobile Note 5

Hello all.
I have had the T-Mobile variant of the Note 5 (SM-N920T) since early October and while I truly think it is an amazing phone in all regards, I have found that the standby time is absolutely atrocious. If I leave the phone charged at 100% overnight I wake up and it is probably around 50 or 40%. If I leave it unplugged at 50%, it is certainly below 5% or dead by the time I awake.
My phone is unrooted and is running 5.1.1 as of January 25th. My two big questions are:
1) Is anyone else with the same model or another Note 5 having similar issues with standby and if so...
2) What are some remedies for this issues. Would rooting and putting a different kernel on imporve things or is this an issue that should theoretically be patched in an OTA.
Any advice would be much appreciated.

Don't want to break your hopes but here, you're not alone and so far no solution to this other than turn off wifi, and go to airplane mode.

Thanks...I hope when I get the 6.0 update (fingers crossed for that in the next couple of weeks), that Doze will help with that some....
I'm running Arter kernel & stock debloated COJ5, no crazy standby drain on my N920T. Never tested with wifi on but connected to mobile network, my phone only dropped 3% overnight the last time I checked for this.
A couple things you can do is disable WiFi calling then to into applications and clear the cache for wfcservice and WiFi calling settings.
Another thing you can do is go into WiFi> more>advanced and change "keep WiFi on during sleep" to never and also make sure you have always "always allow scanning" disabled

I'm hesitant to root at this moment as I'm waiting for my 6.0 update and I don't want to go to the trouble of having to unroot just to update. But when that comes I will probably root it simply for the battery benefits

Mobile Radio Active being the main reason of discharge

Hello, I bought my Oneplus 3T recently and I'm using stick ROMwith ElementalX. The main problem I found is that everytime I look at what consumed the highest percentage of my battery are things like WA, Google Play Services, etc. If I click on the to see what is happening, I always get the Mobile Radio Active working like pretty much all the time.
For example, in a normal use for me which is between 26-30 hours until I decide to charge my phone(between 10-20%), I get a SoT of 4 hours and a half more or less. The problem is that from the total percentage of battery used, these applications which have the Mobile Radio Active problem drain between 10-15% of the total amount of battery, while my screen is like 7% of that total value.
Researching on XDA, I couldn't get any solution to this problem. I call this a problem because, every day I see new photos from people with between 7-9 h of SoT in maybe 20 hours of use. Of course, you can't really call this a bad performance of my phone but I think that this difference of hours with screen on is greater than the amount of time my phone stays with my screen off.
As a consequence, I wanted to know if there is a solution or some tips to reduce that Mobile Radio Active bug in order to extend the time between charges.
Thnk you very much.
Additional information: I cleaned flash stock today + ElementalX kernel + SuperSu to see if this kind of bug dissappears.
To "solve" the Mobile Radio Active bug you must take some extreme steps:
First, Root your device. This MUST be SuperSu unfortunately, as the app I'm going to suggest doesn't allow you to toggle the required settings with Magisk or Phh.
Install LeanDroid.
In settings, allow disabling of Wifi, Cellular Data, Bluetooth, Network Location and GPS Location.
Set to "0 min" after screen off. Click "Except".
Configure this screen to your taste, but I have "Except if tethering", "Except if charging (AC). Under Wifi I have "Except if connected to <my home WIFI>" and I have "Except if active: Limit" set to 100KB/s.
Bluetooth "Except if connected"
Location "Except if GPS in use"
and "Network Mode except if original strength OK."
Go back to the main panel.
Restore "After Screen Unlocked"
"Every 60 MIN after screen off" (Configure this to your liking)
With SuperSU and the above, turning the phone screen off disables the data modem when the transfer rate is low, this effectively shuts down the radio and prevents the Mobile Radio Active bug.
Run this with tools like Greenify and ForceDoze to really pump your battery life.
It's not unusual for me to see 8 hour screen on time with these apps and the above configuration.
and without root?
Just curious, how is the status of this bug ? I followed that Bug for like 1.5Years...since Lollipop i think. I myself tryed several things in Sultans ROMs in a OnePlusOne, but no Solution so far ;-(
Bug is still active. As far as I can tell, it remains active in Oero too.
The only option if you are not rooted is to close all apps and toggle airplane mode before you switch the screen off. This only solves the issue until the next time data is accessed by any app, though
THX for reply. Jepp on Wifi i get 4-5days @3-4h SOT. On Mobile only 2 days

Obviously, it takes more power to send/receive signals to a cell tower 10 miles away, versus a WiFi router that is 20 feet away.
Also using WiFi doesn't ensure the modem is Switched off. Modem power doesn't mean data.

This this bugs even remain active in Oreo i will never use android again.
It's existed since Lollipop and I doubt Google will fix it any time soon.
To get 7 hours of on screen time, you will of course have to sacrifice something, the laws of physics are always with us, reminding us from day to day things that can and can't be done. But hey, if you live in a cardboard box next to a cell tower should give you much better battery time without sacrificing the phone-part of your smart device. ? ?

Multiple Wifi issues.

For sometimes MI 5 battery was acting a bit weird time to time.
Clean flashing to LOS seemed to solve the battery issue, but I discovered another issue while checking up with ampere.
When wifi is on, battery drain is abnormally high. (-870 ma on average in ampere). Even in idle time, there can be 20-30% drain when the phone is virtually nothing. And in addition to that, the heating was a bit high too, with wifi on.
I tried everything I could to solve these. Tested different roms (Xiaomi.eu, LOS, RR, Paranoid), firmwares, tried wavelock blocking and all that.
Of course, I tested the battery drain on a fresh rom - and the issue persisted. So it's not some rouge 3rd party app, unless one of the Gapps is the culprit. But, of course, I even tried disabling some of the gapps like gp service and play store, just to be sure. Yes, the problem exists even with synch and location off, and those wifi scanning and other settings doesn't do anything either.
However, with wifi off, battery was quite good (-100 ma drain on average in ampere)
Recently the issue started escalating. Not only was there the abnormal high drain with wifi on, but toggling wifi crashed the device and started a reboot, after which the device connected.
The only major thing I had remaining to be done - is fastboot. I did even that. Fastbooted into official roms, older 6.0 Xiaomi.eu roms which worked fine in the past ....but the issue persisted. In fact it started to escalate further. More reboots when I try to switch on wifi. Sometimes got stuck in a reboot loop ...and so on.
Right now, wifi is not even connecting. It just stays at 'saved'. Oddly enough, enabling bluetooth and trying to reconnect seems to allow the connection to take place. The drain is still here. (The solutions in this thread: https://forum.xda-developers.com/mi-5/help/wifi-connectivity-problem-t3517777 isn't helping me either)
I don't think this is a router issue either. I did tweak router settings, channels, and all that. I rebooted it and all. No help. And, other devices are working fine with the same router. But, the most definitive evidence that it's not a router problem is that I faced the same issues when trying to connect (with wifi) to a hotspot created from a mobile network from another device.
Do you think it's the worst case scenario: a hardware malfunction?

Could you provide battery apps and hardware usage stats and graph?
My prediction it caused by Google location service that try to lock location but was unable to get GPS lock, so it tried to used WIFI scanning to get location lock.

I can provide the stats later. My device has been offline (normal condition) for quite a while...so there's not much stat to share as of now. I will collect and share them later.
However, I have checked them before. There wasn't anything too interesting. The graph very vividly showed how it fell only when wifi is on...but other than that, most battery was taken by device, idle state or something like that. I didn't find anything interesting in betterbatterystats either. Other than that I did checked the frequencies with kernel auditor too. It seemed normal overall. Though once, I did notice high spike in CPU usage. IIRC, the phone was in deep sleep for most of the time too. Not sure, what the current state is, because new issues are coming up now. So I have to recheck the condition.
I always keep wifi scanning, bluetooth scanning off anyway. So that's not the issue. 'I will again check in the china rom (no gapps), this time more rigorously,....that should clear gapps out of suspicion, if they are innocent.

Check the screenshot
In a freshly fastbooted MIUI global stable rom (with wifi scanning off, and wifi always on off), I got 1% battery drain (100% -> 99%) overnight (6 hours approx)
But, only in a few minutes battery went down to 91% when wifi was on.
The device was idle in both cases.
In past I have assured that it was in deep sleep. Similar rate drain in chinese rom (so no rouge Gapps), and same drain in custom roms.
The hardware usage was taken after I used the device for a while, which is why drain due to screen on is high. Anyway, even before using the device, the maximum drainage was attributed to 'idle phone' so there isn't really any interesting info. One thing to note, that the hardware battery drain states doesn't consider wifi to be the cause of high drain, however the drain is still clearly correlated with active wifi.

Factory Reset does NOT solve S10 Battery Drain (15-20%) when Idle

I noticed my Samsung S10 T-Mobile Snapdragon would drain about 15-20% overnight while asleep (6-8 hours) since last week or so. The drain during the day is also significantly worse, but it's easier to compare the numbers when on idle. The first weeks that I had the phone, I was losing less than 5% overnight (6-8 hours). I am not sure if this was caused by the security updates, carrier updates, or a rogue application. I made no changes to the phone settings that I can recall. My phone was connected to WIFI overnight, with cellular, cellular data, and Bluetooth on. Prior to going to bed I would charge the phone to about 80% and unplug it.
I installed AccuBattery after reading some forums and it showed that my battery drain overnight was about 2-3% PER hour. AccuBattery also indicated that my phone was in deep sleep +85% of the time. The breakdown per application does not total the 15-20% so there's something else draining the battery. Eventually, I uninstalled AccuBattery to see if it was contributing to the drain, and it made no difference.
Below are most of the things that I have tried and tested overnight while I slept (6-8 hours), all of them have been UNSUCCESSFUL at solving the battery drain. I might have forgotten some other settings that I have changed. Keep in mind that this took me over a week of playing around with these settings, and checking the battery right before and after I went to sleep.
Restarted phone (There's always someone who would suggest this if not written down)
Cleared Google Services, Google, and other Apps Cache and Data
Cleared Cache Memory (Through recovery menu - Tried this about 5 times at this point)
Reset the big 3 (Reset settings, Reset network settings, Reset accessibility settings)
Enabled Airplane Mode (Cellular, WiFi, Bluetooth Off)
Disabled Location
Disabled Sync
Disabled Always on Display
Disabled ALL Motions and Gestures (e.g. Lift to Wake, Double tap to wake, Smart Stay, etc.)
Disabled Video enhancer
Disabled Game Launcher
Disabled Bixby Routines
Disabled Nearby Device Scanning
Disabled WiFi Scanning and Bluetooth Scanning (Improve Accuracy)
Disabled Show icon when screen is off (under fingerprints - from Samsung Forums)
Disabled certain Apps (AR Emoji, ARCore, Briefing, Chrome, Game Launcher, Google, Facebook, Secure Folder, etc.)
Forced Stop certain Apps (Bixby, Secure WiFi, etc. - they seem to all come back after a couple of minutes anyway)
Enabled/Disabled Adaptive Power Saving (Tried both settings, made no difference)
Enabled/Disabled Auto Optimization (Tried both settings, made no difference)
Switched between Power Modes (Optimized to Medium, made no difference)
Change lock screen and home screen to a 100% black wallpaper
Ran Safe Mode overnight with ALL of the settings above (Airplane with Location and Sync Off, etc.) Still got a 15% drain overnight.
Last night after I got fed up with playing with the countless of options, I decided to Factory Reset the phone thinking that this would solve my battery drain problem. Well, WRONG. Still got a 15% battery drain overnight with only the core apps installed, in airplane mode, location and sync disabled, and other settings disabled. I did NOT restore any backups from Samsung or Google, nor installed any additional apps that did not come with the phone.
I have complained to Samsung through their Samsung Members application under Feedback. If you guys are on the same boat, I suggest we all start complaining so that they can start taking a look at this and hopefully release a fix.
If you guys have any tips or anything has worked for you guys, please let me know.

If its still draining that much even in flight mode, then something is definitely wrong. Seems like you've tried everything. Can you not get a replacement under warranty from where you purchased it? Sounds faulty.

I have had this same issue with my S7. Hence my reply. At that time I have traced it down to a certain kernel process. The only way to resolve this was to replace the motherboard. A factory reset didnt helped either.
Later when i investigated it further it was like an Interrupt request for sleep mode. Eleminating the phone going to deep sleep. Than you will see drains like this
My advice. Get the device replaced. It was the only way to resolve the problem on my S7. Hardware replacement

Also, how did you manage to get your phone replaced? By Samsung? I am past the 30 day return policy so I am not sure how easy/hard it will be for the to replace my device/motherboard. What did you say to them exactly?
Reflash firmware?
Which update are you on?
After the ASCA, but before the finger print sensor update, I had amazing battery life, less than 1% per hour on idle.
But after finger print sensor update, it's about 2% per hour on idle.
Maybe reflash ASCA without the fps update? If it's possible

I'll wait for the April update and see if that solves things. If not, I guess I'll drop by one of their service centers/genuis bars.
What a terrible experience...
Yeah that does not seem normal.
With airplane mode drop 0.2%/hours.
Sorry you are having bad issues. I would try to install U1 firmware and see if that helps.

I'm having the same issue after the recent updates on AT&T. I used to get close to 9 hours SOT and now I barely get 4. Nothing unusual in the battery stats either so I'm not sure what's going on.
Same here. The idle drain is completely insane! It's a shame that the phone suffers from issues like this when you compare it to the price we paid for it. From what I can tell the issue stems from the kernel not being able to figure out the proper frequencies for the cores in idle which leads to **** performance. I'm gonna try to flash the asd4 firmware via odin once. If it doesn't work I'm gonna get a replacement if possible. Currently I get around 4 hours of sot no matter what I do. Doesn't matter what I do which is super weird. My s7 edge which was at least 2 years old gave me a better sot more regularly, so I'm definitely pretty irritated with this. Will update once I flash over odin.

To all who has this issues. First thing to check is .. Does the phone ever enters deep sleep ....
I used this app on my S7..
Wakelock Detector. Can be found in google play.. Sorry cant post links due to my new status here.
A teraz Rozwiazanie . Wychodzimy w MENU - ZAAWANSOWANE FUNKCJE - RUCH I GESTY* - i odznaczamy opcję DOTKNIJ DWUKROTNIE ABY WYBUDZIĆ. następnie w MENU - EKRAN BLOKADY - ALWAYS ON DISPLAY - TRYB WYŚWIETLACZA zmieniamy opcję DOTKNIJ ABY POKAZAĆ na którąś z pozostałych lub całkowicie wyłączamy ALWAYS ON DISPLAY . To powinno rozwiązać problem z baterią w moim przypadku kończąc**pracę**z telefonem w kieszeni po 8 godzinach miałem 30% Baterii a teraz 70% .

BetterBatteryStats shows it goes to deep sleep 99% of the time overnight. No abnormal kernel wakelocks/partial wakelocks/alarms.
A couple of other things I have tried recently unsuccessfully while sleeping (6-8 hours) over the past week:
Safe Mode
Safe Mode + airplane mode
Safe Mode + airplane mode + cache wipe + Google services wipe
Safe Mode + airplane mode + cache wipe + Google services wipe + Remaining Apps in Sleep Mode (Battery Settings>Sleeping Apps)
Safe Mode + airplane mode + cache wipe + Google services wipe + Remaning Apps in Sleep Mode + Max Battery Mode (instead of Optimized Mode)
The best idle drain I got overnight was 15% drain over ~6 hours (~2.5%/hour)
I'll try disabling the Adaptive Battery/Auto Optimization while I have all my Apps in Sleep Mode an Safe Mode. I'll also try another Factory Reset this weekend.
If that doesn't work, I'll schedule an appointment with one of their service centers.
This sucks. My 2-year old S7 Edge still has better battery life than this.
I remember reading a post on Reddit from a guy saying he had a current leak on his faulty motherboard. Maybe you got the same issue on yours.

After reading your comment, I decided to test the phone completely off overnight.
To my surprise the battery drain was still present. From 5PM to 730AM my battery went down from 87% to 60%!!! So about ~2%/hour while the S10 was COMPLETELY OFF.
I'll be taking my phone to the service center sometime this week. For anybody else having crazy drain problems, turn your device completely off and see if the drain is still present. It might be a hardware issue

Which update are you on?
After the ASCA, but before the finger print sensor update, I had amazing battery life, less than 1% per hour on idle.
But after finger print sensor update, it's about 2% per hour on idle.
Maybe reflash ASCA without the fps update? If it's possible

Oh, seems like the same with mine, the fingerprint update
