I have had a DT since launch and I have had a custom ROM on for quite a while and upon using Android N (through crDroid) I found an extreme amount of forced reboots, I was wondering what causes them as I would love to join the ranks of the 1%ers who use android N across all platforms.
Obviously saying "it doesn't work please fix" is not going to get me anywhere so ill throw my pride out the window and accept any and all assistance if yall would be so kind.

crDroid is notorious for that. Try any of the other 7.1 roms that are out there. I installed AOKP 2 days ago and it hasn't rebooted yet. Battery life is awesome too.
ok. Ill try out aokp as that is what I used in 6.0.1 Thanks!

Just to give you an update, I just removed AOKP because whenever I try to make a call through a Bluetooth device (like my car's hands free system), it completely messes up the phone and eventually force reboots. These roms are based on early versions of CM14.1 (we don't even have official CM14.1 builds yet) so some bugs are to be expected, but they're all being updated very regularly so I expect that they will be virtually bug free in a no time. Just keep trying them until you find one that works for you.

Also @calsurferpunk just re-synced his "unofficial" CM14 to RR's builds to hope to get that stability. Previously he was uing crDroids database (or whatever). His unofficial CM14 builds are a hybrid of more bare bones CM and everything-including-the-kitchen sink tweaks of custom ROMs. His builds have the more popular tweaks, like being able to download Moto apps and a couple more, but are not change-everything ROMs.

I really appreciate your assistance with this mate. I remember back when we had mofo and your only option was basically build an image yourself or take whatever one guy was developing. I'm really thankful we have evolved no thanks to the developers like chainfire and all the wonderful people who still care for our 3900mah mini Nexus 6... Or at least close enough
Edit: I will try out CM14.1 Unofficial for a day and see how that goes. I really want to stay away from "kitchen sink" roms because of the restarts. Thanks again for your help
Just wanted to know how stable is has gone
Also please answer if flashing gapps is the same
What works and what does not
Thanks
It has been pretty stable, the only issue I had was tethering but that was fixed with blackbird kernel 2.1
Install gapps just like on any other ROM.

Tethering was only broken on two nightly builds when 7.1.1 was merged. It's been fixed on 'stock' CM-kernel.
I'm on the latest lightly and with the default kernel it's broke for me, even on a clean install. Weird..... Lol
I am on the latest. I tweaked it to look like a pixel. I have The launcher animated Nav bar, assistant ,dialer, camera boot screen and image. And round icons. It is working great for me

I had it working great today after struggling with the nightly that would crash on install, from a few weeks back. Got newer nightly and flashed, and worked awesome. Then dumbass me, saw the available CM update from the built in updater. Did that and completely borked my phone. Could not read from storage to even go back to a saved backup. Asked for password then rebooted to recovery. Every time, wipes did not fix. Maybe if I lurked on here on a daily basis I would have not made the mistake but it was unhealthy dose of stress from my daily driver. I got it alive again but it is a secret. Now I'm stock and unrooted and my wife said "I told you not to root it, again"...face palm.

My plan is to stick with the last CM 13.0 nightly until OmniROM 7.x hits.
I've been testing it for a while but was not stable and some bugs, so I switched to Nitrogen OS. Much better now.
No need to use another ROM. The last CM-14.1 nightly is stable and usable as daily driver.
We are transitioning our work to LineageOS. If we have everything running you need to flash it once manually....after that ther will be an updater like cmupdater.
Ok so I'm trying to find a daily driver. I've done a lot of flashing. I have used dirty unicorns, linage, rr, aokp. I just can't figure out what I want to run so I want to see what everyone else is running. This isn't a hich room is best thread. Just tell us what your running and why that rom.

RR is a customized LineageOS with lots of extra options. The launcher however, you decide over no matter what ROM your running. I'm also using Nova on stock LOS.
Lineage OS from sultanxda. Stable, best battery life, best camera, no bloat, not so many unnecessary options

Yes, it is. Call it what you want: most popular, favorite, best ROM. It's still all just the same question. Everyone has massively different preferences and needs, and your experience will vary drastically depending on how you as an individual use your phone. Asking strangers to make a decision for your is not only useless, it is also bizarre. You clearly already have the knowledge/ability to try various ROMs (as you stated you did). So leaving the decision to something as arbitrary as a stranger's whim (or a ROM's popularity) is just strange.
I'd also caution against using a ROM, just because it's widely used and "most popular". Plenty of times in the past, the ROM that worked best for me, was one that was less popular, and more obscure. You do yourself an injustice by ignoring these "hidden gems".
For the first time after using a smartphone, i decided to settle with Stock ROM. For me, it gives the best UI and a lot of useful options. I don't even need to tell that the Stock camera is far better than any other apps used in other Custom ROMs. Battery is really amazing too considering my way to use the cellphone( Facebook app, the great battery villain is full time here in use).

Dear Sir,
If quick update is the requirement, the Lineage is the best and I have to say unofficial sultan 14.1 is the same as he is also quick but If you are installing sultan 14.1 for only battery back up then I think you should have a look with custom kernel such as franco and elemenatlx which are great in battery back up.
But for me and also with some other friends, stock oxygen is the best as camera is the main priority for me. For other features magisk is readily available.
Thanks to all developers for the support time to time.

Are you me?
Edit: Didn't see the necro, sorry
I have built a new version of the ColtOS Nougat ROM for XT907/XT905 devices, and am looking for someone to test flash the ROM ZIP before I put the effort into creating a proper thread post.
The reason I do not want to test flash it myself is that I am currently running ResurrectionRemix and the ROM is set up juuuust right and don't wish to risk upsetting anything.
The ROM is basically a straight ColtOS build for our device, with my Overclocked Kernel including the additional CPU and IO Governors. This build also includes a new CPU governor, Alucard, and also a new IO Governor, FIOPS. Both the FIOPS IO Governor and the Alucard CPU Governors really interest me to use on my daily; and hence I went to the effort to create a new Nougat build. ie compile them into RR; and maybe crDroid, which would also bring in any LOS specific changes not overridden by the respective custom ROM code.
Here is a thread for a different device: https://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g3/development/coltos-t3656725
It is from a group (NB: 90% of the changes specifically in crDroid included in our device are done by a single dev) of devs in India, and has very similar features to crDroid ie less than ResurrectionRemix, and my introduction to it was because how closely they stuck to LineageOS in their code, that didn't need to be changed to add a specific feature.
What I would hope for is, someone to clean flash this ROM, Nano or Pico GApps (its an ODEX'd ROM so limited System partition space and ODEX'ing RR caused it to fail), connect to Google and basically confirm it boots and appears to run smoothly. Then also test the new CPU governor (Alucard) and IO scheduler (FIOPF) to ensure they don't cause a reboot.
Please PM me if you are interested and have the time.
it was alright. I disliked the reboot/ power off theme... same reason I don't run pac rom.

Yeah, I'm not a fan of the styling, but do respect the fact they have gone out of their way to make it actually look different to all other ROMs. I built it because I downloaded it when my other nougat builds were failing to run (ie before we knew to format our data partitions as F2FS)
As for pac rom, there is also no Nougat for our device either
FYI to all, this ROM also has an under-clocked (as well as overclocked) kernel.
I should have a public build up for this soon.

meh, pac rom was never very good after 4.3 anyways, the only reason I rocked it was for all the rom features, but 5.0+, tablet UI had been phased out, and most roms got closer to AOSP, and more unified as far as features go then before, making pac rom... un needed.

That's plain wrong. Try true AOSP (which if your not rocking a Nexus is hard to find), then try RR. TOTALLY different features.

I was reffering more to the roms PAC was built from, Paranoid android (mostly features like PIE and stuff), AOKP is pretty much dead last I heard, and Lineage is no where near CM when it comes to actual features. I shouldn't say roms are becoming more like AOSP, I should say that AOSP is becoming more like roms, in the sense that more and more features are being added, along with theme support out of the box. RR is obviously the king of customization, but PAC was never based on RR. PAC rom was great because it brought all the features from 3 major roms and put them all together, you got UI switch, you got the CM theme engine, you got all the cool PA features (it's been a while, forgive me for the vague-ness of that last one). Now something like PAC isn't very needed nor wanted.

You are mixing up time-lines. Lineage IS what used to be CM. And just as CM features would of changed over time, LineageOS developed different features to what previously existed in CM. And further, time changes dev streams in Android BIG TIME. The ROMs I ran as daily's in Lollipop and earlier, are not available in Nougat (at least not to build) As for AOKP, I think AOSPB are the kids on the block to watch ie they are building some interesting features which have or will be brought into many custom ROMs, and then probably into AOSP.

Now, them there are fightin words everyone has their own preference for specific ROMs. For example, I am surprised that my crDroid build of Nougat appears to have more people rocking it as a daily as compared to RR but I could be the dope, or simply just someone who thinks RR 'is very needed and wanted'.:highfive:

I'd agree that RR is wanted and needed, the reason PAC isn't is because it jut cherry picked from 3 major roms, and something like that just isn't very needed when most custom roms come with all of those features out of the box.
Now Lineage, I understand is built off of CM, but it lacks the CM theme engine which I consider the number one reason to use CM (at least for me, it's just a superior theme engine). Not only that, but the built in preformance section was also very missed, and I remember not seeing it in builds of CM13 and wondering why. A lot of awesome CM features that were ONLY in CM or roms based on it. just aren't really their anymore, and I was hoping that Lineage 14.1 would add them back. I don't really count Lineage 13 much, because CM13 was still pretty popular, and it's pretty much a re-brand of that, whereas CM14.1 I don't remember having much traction, as I believe Lineage was out at the time of its release. I might be wrong though, I never really followed very close on the whole "Cyanogenmod/Lineage" thing, because at the time I was still using only AOKP and classic CM builds.

Greetings Forums Members,
I thought I'd make a post here and get your opinions about what ROM to use. - I'm currently running Resurrection Remix from here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/mi...esurrection-remix-04-09-2017-t3587049/page420
So far everything seems to be running really well on this ROM, but before this Rom I was running Stock Rom with Marshmallow, then updated to nougat MIUI 9 or something like that and I really hated it... So I wiped, re-flashed the original Marshmallow Rom using Mi Tool. I then decided to install TWRP and Root my device and keep it on stock MM. It was really good and treated me well for the longest time. Eventually, I got bored of it and decided to try out some custom Roms.
I wanted to ask you all which Rom is currently the best Rom to use for the Mi Mix, would really appreciate some advice here. I'm mainly looking for something with good Battery Life and Fast/Smooth Rom.
- Thanks

Thank you very much for your prompt and detailed response.
I'm currently using Resurrection Remix (ROM) - What are your thoughts on that? I personally find it to be really good because of the many feature it has included in the (ROM) - For example; you can really customize the (ROM) however you see fit. I find that to be the most appealing thing about the (ROM).
I'll be sure to give some of the other (ROMS) a try before settling on this one. I have yet to transfer all my dad over anyways since I've only been testing it so far. I'd like to make sure that there aren't many flaws before I settle.

RR hasn't been updated in months and likely won't be. AICP is the closest in terms of functionality (lots of config options etc) and is still updated weekly. Also, Oreo ROMs are starting to land (finally) so you might want to try those. I just built AICP for Oreo yesterday and I'm running it now. No major issues so far.

I've tried several ROMs that you've all recommended except for Viper. So far in my opinion I'd have to say RR has been the best in terms of speed, reliability and battery life. However, I'd like to give Viper a try as well just to see how it is in comparison to RR.

ViperOS is dead. Hasn't been updated in months and likely never will be. Rumours of an Oreo update hang on an article/video in Brazilian (where the team lead is/was based) showing it running on some device.
If you want to stick with Nougat for now, go AICP (more configuration options) or Lineage (closer to stock AOSP). Nougat ROMs are the only ones with custom kernels as yet too.
None of the Oreo ROMs are without issue for now, although they are minor for the most part. Another 1-2 should be along soon to add to Pixel Experience/Cardinal/RR/AICP.
I'm using @gavin19 's unofficial RR Oreo ROM. Love it. There are some minor issues but they shouldn't deprive you from trying it out. I strongly recommend it

Ya I need to try Crdroid, as I am on AICP and i havent really had any issues with that rom it works great and I can customize it like I want.
I am very excited i saw that ViperOs has figured out the Oreo 8.1 and has released a few roms, im hopeful someone will find a way to get that working for the Mi Mix!!!!
I think the best rom ever made for xiaomi mi mix is the Xiaomi.eu MIUI8 Stable v8.5.4.0
Reasons:
~ Unlike all custom roms, the miui uses the whole screen and has real rounded corners and not software made ones which makes the screen look better!
~ The MIUI 8 for MI MIX includes a gesture to hide the navigation bar and have a full screen in any app that you want, you can easly control it when ever you want, best rom for full screen exprience when ever you want! also when you do swipe to hide the nav bar the apps use the whole screen and there are no black bars! none of the custom roms have that!
~ version 8.5.4.0 has no bugs in it and has the best battery life you will ever see on the MIX
~ all Xiaomi.eu Pros and features!
~ Proximity sensor works perfectly and loud in this miui version, you cant find any custom rom that has that working perfectly these days
~ Camera is very good on the official MIUI version!
~ all the MIUI pros and features
~ NO HEAT of the phone, something that happens in a lot of custom roms I used
~ Please note that you can use MIUI9 from Xiaomi.eu if you want, but you will lose the stablity and swipe to hide the nav bar amd the phone heats a lot (but you get android 7, and all the new features) not recomended on the MIX
I have used tons of custom roms on my phone: LineageOS, RR, AICP, AOSP. AIOSP, DIRTY UNICORNS, PIXEL EXPERIENCE. none of the are as stable as that rom and I always go back to that rom.
Have a great day!

Yeah, Viper is most definitely a good Rom to use. I've used it on many other devices before and it has always performed rather well. It's a grea Rom overall and the customization is what really caught my attention. So I vote Yes, viper is indeed a good Rom to use on the Mi Mix and just about every other phone that supports it. AiCP is also a very good Rom on the Mi Mix.

I don't know man... I've never found the battery life to be good on stock ROM. I completely understand what you're saying though. However, if I'm being perfectly honest here, I wouldn't go back to using stock. Don't get me wrong it's very well-built and smooth but the battery life has always been horrible for me not sure why...

Hi Bro want to find out more from you based on your experience
I have updated to latest weely rom 9.6 - 8.5.3 but my Line ap still cannot open.
I want to go bac to stable rom as you said. What do you suggest and how to do it? I am afraid I will lose the history in whatsapp and other chat apps if clean install.

Backup & restore? Whatsapp chats and media files can be backed up to your Google drive and there are other options available for backup as well.
Same thing can be done for messages if you use the Google messenger app for texting and if not, you can still backup your messages and contacts very easily by using this 3rd party app to do so... Which uses Google drive. Also this app backs up call logs, contacts and SMS messages. App name: SMS BACKUP & RESTORE.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.riteshsahu.SMSBackupRestore
As far as apps and settings go you can always just use your Google account to backup all apps/files/data if you have the option turned on in settings of course.
General SD files like media files (pics, vids, etc.) can be backed up manually using your computer and internal storage or by uploading them to the cloud... which is for free.
How to revert back to stock? There are many guides available right here on the forums, if you just take a closer look you'll see exactly what I'm talking about.
