Hello I have weak wifi signal on my Z3 Compact. I have had it also on my Z3. I dont know if its hardware issue or software. I have tried reflashing stock .ftf like million times. Also I have been changing many roms ex. 4.4, 6.0.1, 7.1.2, 8.0.0, issue is still the same. If anyone can help me, i'd be thankful. Router is in my living room there I have full signal, and when I am in my room I have no signal and when I have it download speeds are 200-300 Kb/s. On my J5 2016 on the other hand I have full bars in living room and in my bedroom. Hope I find solution thank you so much!

I don't know if there's anything you can do to increase WiFi receiver sensitivity. It's a hardware issue. I can say that for me, Z3c WiFi strength is better than some other phones I've had, so could be something wrong with it...

Better try to flash an other radio version before doing this to your Xperia.
Edit:
At home i have just 2 bars of reception, but anyway it has a very good connection. Only HSDPA reception could be a little more.
If i am outside my house, i mostly have full reception even with HSDPA.
If you're getting a weak signal from your provider, there's no way to magically make reception better other than the provider giving better coverage.
Being that my Nokia's all have full reception in house and the Xperia loses connection in the same location...

I've changed 5 times already.
The issue is not whether it can be resolved or not, it is how slipshod the SE radio firmware is.
Nokia gets it right 100% of the time, so why can't SE?
The blogger on that link may be onto something (ie hardware related, not firmware) - but I'm not going to do that!
I changed the radio f/w to 1.16 - it's better than before, still not perfect in terms of the number of bars, and I sometimes lose the signal in the local supermarket...
X1 signal quality is poor/below average - but not poor enough to take the phone apart like that, or to actually change it for another.
I have already re-shelled my phone, so I have no fear of this. It is actually very easy to get to that part, but I would think that the rubberized coating would help to prevent corrosion on the copper antenna. Correct me if I am wrong, but wouldn't a cell signal have no problem passing through a millimeter of rubber compound?
I would be more than willing to mod this to get a few more bars, but I don't want to cause damage and not actually have any benefit.
If anyone here has tried it please post your results.
i just did this mod so far there has not been any noticable increases in reception but it seems to be more stable with less drop outs
Hi all,
Within the past week or so, I've noticed a fairly large drop in the signal strength from both my wireless lan and 3g signals. With the cell signal, it was even dropping to edge sometimes when I was outside in an area which used to give me full bars. Wireless isn't much better, and it seems to be fluctuating between 4/5 signal and 2/5 signal even though I'm close to my router. Again, I used to have full signal in the same location. Nothing really would have changed.
Yesterday I tried flashing Continuum (2.3.4) instead of running the stock 2.2 that I had before. The 3g signal seems to be *slightly* more consistent, although I'm still not at full bars, whereas I always was before.
Is this a common occurrence? Is it my hardware, and can I fix it myself, or do I need to send it in to Rogers? I've only had the phone for about 6 months now. I wonder if it's under warranty still (assuming I flash back the original ROM and bootloader).
If anyone has any suggestions it would be much appreciated. It's odd, but the wifi signal almost gets boosted when I'm trying to use the internet, but not to full bars even when I'm near the router.
Bump. Is this the wrong place to ask this question?
Cheers
My AT&T Captivate has similar issues. Mine started about a month ago. I haven't put any effort into figuring out the root cause.
Yeah, I'd really like to figure out what's up though. Does the hardware just crap out after a few months of use? Thanks samsung!

This trend happened with my HTC Aria as well. I don't believe its anything related to Samsung hardware crapping out.
So, if it's software, what would be consistent across a ROM and kernel flash?
I recently fixed a network error effecting call quality by flashing a new modem. I know our issues are different, but since you did flash new ROM i dont think it could hurt.

Stumbled across this article on Toms Hardware today and felt like it was a good read for this thread.

Unfortunately it's not just my wifi that has issues, but 3g as well.

Have you tried flashing a different modem? The one that came with your current rom may be different than you had before which would account for your weaker signals. Different modems work better in different areas. Try something else and see if it doesn't help, such as JK4 or JL3.
I haven't yet, but I actually had the problem before I flashed the ROM.
Where are you located. I have absolutely ATROCIOUS reception in Atlanta, and ATT says they have some 50 towers down. Your area might be the same. In my basement where I used to have 3 bars consistently, i know have to run around the basement struggling to get one bar to send a text. ATT needs to get their act together or everyone might start switching to Verizon.
In Toronto, Canada. We usually have good reception. It's only recently that I have had issues.
check with other people such as your family and see if they have bad service too, if so call your service provider, there may be an issue on their end. Other than that all I can suggest would be a full reset to factory and a master clear and then restart from there. While that is annoying, it might be worth it to solve the problem.
I'm using SP, but I realized that the WIFI signal is really weak compared to all other devices~
The received signal is only 0 to 1 bar on my SP while my iPhone 4, Xperia X10 all devices can get 3 to 4 bars...
And my SP will be disconnected easily while all other devices do not have this problem...
Is there any solution or recommendation?
I am also facing this problem with my phone and when Samsung galaxy s advance catches signal but my phone did not Get any wifi signal
I started a thread about that issue:

Because I also planning to buy this phone thanks for your feedback.

I don't have the problem anymore. Try updating the firmware and turning off stamina mode.
Want refund? Not possible. I would pay $200 for the xperia z though. S$600 for an xperia z!

Support from SONY Website took a look and ask for some details.
Hopefully they will look into it.
Problem remains after update...
Sony Mobile support suggested on changing router settings (e.g. channel ). But, why don't other phones need those setting changes? And, of course, is it possible to change EVERY router's, that we use, settings?

It is a baseband problem, not kernel. Updating basebands can be risky, as it might result in loss of wireless capabilities.
To put it simply, you might lose your WIFI, LTE and so on.
I have really good wifi signal. Don't have any problems with disconnecting and so on.
I don't have a problem, the wifi range seems to be similar to other phones I've had. But, I have noticed that even when the wifi signal strength indicator shows 1or even no bars, it still works with good speed. It seems like the indicator isn't calibrated that well.
I've also noticed the SP is quite critical how it's held in the hand with respect to wifi performance. The 3G antennas are at the bottom of the phone, but I think the wifi antenna might be near the top, so you need to modify how you hold it. Don't take this as fact, just something I thought I noticed last night when using wifi.

I have the same issue.
I had a senseless chat with Sony Support which resulted in that i can send the phone to my next Sony Repair Center.
So i tried several channels on my Router best results were on channel 1 and channel 11.
It is still not as strong like i am used to on other devices but much better than before.
Also i had the feeling that after flashing Doomlords new Kernel the signal got better, but that could be a wrong impression by me.

I think that if Sony wants to continue enjoying our respect, must publish an update that corrects the problem. It's a B I G problem to have a phone that disconects every 5-6 min even though the signal is good....
Hello, i ask about my xperia z1, signal is weak eventhough the wifi on other mobile is strong signal in same distance, what will i do? Can we fix this kind of problem? Tnx
Hello guys I bought an Xperia Z1 last week and the wifi reception is very poor and i've read my threads and they say change channel and turn off wifi optimization and turn on Auto IP thing and change security code mode on the router and i tried all of them but i still get slow internet connection and my brother also got an iphone 5s and when we use speedtest and put them next to each other he gets 8mbps and i get like 0.3 to 2 maximum mbps
So do you know anything i can do to fix this problem

Try using this app to find best channel in you neighbourhood:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.farproc.wifi.analyzer
If that fails flash different ROMs like iHackers or even better CM11. If you're still getting same results then call Sony and tell them. They might replace your unit due to defective radio.
yup owns Xperia Z1
Current Rom : CM11 with cwm as kernel
Bootloader: Unlocked
Also if I've helped you don't forget to hit THANKS - actions speak louder that words.

Yh my WiFi was poor in every room expect living room (where router was located). I never had this problem with GS2 and Galaxy Ace. At the time I couldn't flash CM cause of the UB camera issue. So I used WiFi Analyzer to find best channel to my surprise auto had set it to Channel 6 which almost everyone in the neighbourhood was at. After tinkering with router I found that channels below 11 work best. After tinkering with the app I found a rating system that suggested best channels.
The reason why I suggested you flash other ROMs is to find out whether its a software issue if every ROM fails then its a hardware issue unless your phone WiFi works with other routers. If the latter was the case then something is wrong with your router.

I am using redmi 9t version MIUI Global 12.0.17 from two weeks, no update is available in pakistan.
Its wifi signal is very weak (Overall speed of internet near the wifi router is completely fine)
It sometime lost its connectivity during weak signals.
Should I wait for the new update by which Its signal strength may be better or may I sell it out in market because of its hardware issue ?
Your kind response will be highly appreciated.
thanks
First of all, do internet reset. If not help, try hard reset. And make sure that other device is fine in connecting to wifi.

It looks like there is a hardware issue in it .
I'm on 12.5.5.0 EU rom (last stable miui 12) and the wifi is unstable. It goes up and down and switching to mobile data.
I have tried ALL android (network/wifi global) settings but it doesn't help. Don't hope it is a hardware issue (wifi chip problem). Tried wifi data reset, bluetooth on/off, Wifi Access point on/off,.....
The only time it stays on wifi is when mobile data is turned off. If you turn on Extended wifi log in Development Settings you willl see the RSSI and Wifi Score (0-60) for your Wifi connection. But it varies all the time.
Hard one to crack.
