Hello! Here we will discuss the development of Project Treble for Alice. I kind of already know how to add it.:
1) you need to create a TWRP WITH a new "Vendor" section"
2)to build the firmware, support Treble
3) Build a kernel with Treble support
Commit to the kernel: https://github.com/thune-xiaobai/an...mmit/5b61c8487f9067bb5efb01d1f4d813e454118d14
(Don't know, but it seems to work)
I'd try it myself, but there's no equipment.
It would be fantastic, but doesn't make sense Treble for alice, because you know, every Oreo ROM doesn't work good on this device...

The developers are dead. Nobody is working for Alice anymore. I myself want to move on to Samsung j7 2016 as it has better Oreo support and a partition I can use for vendor.
I will continue releasing ROMs for this device for a little longer, and probably be the last since OpenKirin probably won't work on this device anymore.
-P.S. This is not the right subforum to post this kind of thread. The "P8lite Android Development" subforum is made just for releasing ROMs, kernels and recoveries.
Regards,
It s not easy as you can see there. Redmi note 4 has qcom chipset and there is just a little game to fix all bugs and got a stable oreo rom. Here on Kirin we need to base all sources in some stuff from emui and we always need latest emui to have latest android os and with it, it s still not a game to fix bugs coz of kirin closed sources.
After this start let s come back at port of treble,
He (dev of redmi note 4) made first a normal lineage os non-treble fully stable and then he moved of drivers in vendor by using cust un-used partition, by this he converted non-treble rom in a treble enabled rom. Here we need first an oreo non-treble stable rom or the result would be the same. Also I was working with haky86 on it and we got flashing vendor and booting up issues.
So it s impossible this here
Isn't enough tho.
I port project treble on my lepro3 from his brother, the lemax2. How they did that, they found unused partition called /firmware about 600mb and created with a script called partition.zip that should be flashed via twrp.
secondly you have to move all blobs in that /vendor, thirdly you need a bindrized kernel fully compatible with oreo. as final thing treble will not solve bugs like ril or camera. so if not fixed in the whole device tree and vendor same bugs will be noticed on treble too.
I'm talking about the experience on my lepro3.

Lol don't but that old and bad phone. If you want good community support buy LeEco Le Pro 3, 10+ official custom roms, treble support etcetc. It's like oneplus 3t but for half of the price, even haky got one.

Bad phone? You call the Samsung j7 a bad phone? Clearly you haven't seen a "bad phone". There are phone's out there from what? 2014? And they're currently running P. When this piece of garbage doesn't even run Oreo. If there's a bad phone, it's the p8 lite, not the j7.

That j7 in 2018 is as good as the p8 lite xd 1 core gpu, exynos cpu. That antutu score is killing me. If you really want a high end phone like oneplus 3t for cheap, look at leeco le pro 3 190+ and even 210+ antutu score.
Sd821 6gb ram adreno 530. Running even android p treble.

At least it has stable oreo, unlike the p8. And the possibilities of it getting p are high, with official Oreo arriving for it in october-ish, possibly with treble included as well

Having a newer android version doesn't mean anything, and tbh, i really liked the P8Lite emui skin, it was very close to android 8 skin. And about under the hood changes, yea... I feel like huawei could give us at least 6.0.1, newer kernel or latest gpu drivers, but meh... don't buy a phone just because it has android x, buy for the hardware. Try xiaomi, or Chinese brands, not Samsung. Those are one of the worst per price ratio phones. That j7 will struggle even with today's games, let alone future ones.

Lol it's like 200+ in my country where are you from? Also, why don't you follow hakys path? 200eu for oneplus 3t specs, treble, volte vowifi android pie everything available I'll highly recomand it, also, it looks like 3t, basically a cheap version of that(i meam like literally, and the quality is same as top high end phones). Get into LeEco Le Pro 3, you won't regret it even after years. Also, tell me ANOTHER photo under 150-200 euro which can run fortnite ) (yep, it's running for me, also vulkan api is overkill, and will be for this phone for at least 5 years). Let's not even talk that everything is open source.

Hi, have been wanting to get the Mi 8 for a while as I prefer it over the Oneplus 6, but I was wondering when would a custom ROM actually come out for this phone? Or any idea on some sort of time span? As I'm not keen on using the MIUI and would rather have like the Pixel Experience or something stock instead with the spec and the camera of the Mi 8.
I think active development is starting after Android P is released.
Android P does have notch compatibly so the os will function normally.
Anyway, give it some time this device is a few weeks old mostly development starts after some months.
BTW I moved from a Oneplus 6 to a Xiaomi Mi 8!

Whats your opinion of them both?
The haptic feedback on the Mi 8 is massively better, and I like the camera on the Mi 8 more and the size.
I had a few ago a note 4 got much fun of it, and I went away from Xiaomi because the lcd quality was horrible.
So since the Mi 8 has a amoled Samsung panel it was a insta buy for me.

but wont give up my op6 for it
Waiting till kernel sources will be out for dipper ... thats the only thing that is left to start building
The handset does not appear to have been launched in its Global variant yet. I think this is part of the slow development.
Hey everyone!
If you have noticed a lot of the older Xiaomi models and some other phones successfully ran Android Q, of course with minor bugs.
So since Redmi will stop providing MIUI updates after MIUI 11, does anyone plan to develop and test newer android version ?
The GSI partition on this phone is just bad, it's not as flexible as other phones.
And there's hardly any chance to port future MIUI versions (tried to port for some other models, didn't boot ).
So do you think maybe it's high time to make up a proper custom ROM for this ?
MTK makes this task stupidly hard to achieve, i don't think we're getting further than treble anytime soon.

That's true, though some MTK devices did achieve full treble support.
I was looking into Xiaomi Qin 2, and I realized it's interface is damn beautiful. Don't know what it runs on but it sure looks nice. Kinda regret buying 6A for almost the same price. I would have gone for the Qin 2 instead. Of course, I don't think Mi is releasing the Qin 2 software or will it ever get ported ?
Hi all. I recently bought my first Xiaomi phone taking advantage of a launch offer on Amazon Italy (phone + Xiaomi Mi Smartwatch for 650 euros instead of 830 euros).
I was happy to have a device with a Snapdragon 888 processor, a super camera and an excellent 120 Hz screen but it took a few hours of use to realize that the biggest flaw of this device is the operating system.
I have been using Google or OnePlus phones for years, currently I also have a OnePlus 8 and I must say that the switch from OxygenOS to MIUI was devastating.
Handling background apps and notifications is awful. Often the notifications are not grouped or are identified correctly (those of Telegram are associated with a contact even if they are from another), in the background applications I find the same application several times. Using a "Pixel Experience" theme didn't improve that.
I prefer a device that is more like stock Android than a badly made iPhone.
I think about returning the product to Amazon but I'm here to ask you: why should I keep it? Am I wrong with my approach?
Help me make the right decision. Thank you.

Wellcome to the club
You are on the righ place.
Here you can learn how to customize the hell out of your device. I also use "Nova" launcher and that makes experience so much better for the start. And I apply "viral" custom icon theme pack across all of the apps.
In time developers will start releasing custom roms here that are maybe for your needs and likes. So just be patient and you will fall in love in Xiaomi and the device. No need to return it, it a good device that will just become better in the near future with upcoming updates. There is a 12.5 update coming sometime in April which will have much improvement in many segments.

Ciao compa'
Coming from a Pixel 4XL and yes: devastating.
Using Nova Launcher or installing Xiaomi.eu will solve none of the problems that you are having. Actually Xiaomi.eu, even if based on 12.5, may make experience worts since you'll get Xiaomi apps for browser, dialer, contacts etc. Although Xiaomi.eu does not have the notification problems that you, me and everyone else with a EU Android 11 ROM is having, also on Mi10T phones.
If you contact me via pm I can try to provide some hints to ease the pain...
does anyone have an idea if anybody is working on porting miui 13 to G. pixel7 & pro?
usually the google phones get miui within weeks of release of the phone, but i haven't heard
any news on any dev or group talking about working on the rom.
if you have any info on this, please do post what you know with links for us that are interested
to check the info plz.
Guess not
Seriously, why would you want that? Sure, tastes are different, but why would you put a bloated, overstyled, ad-infected and closed source (MIUI Apps and Kits) ROM/OS on a Pixel device which comes with pure Android out of the box? MIUI was once a great ROM and a lot of fun... from 2010 to 2015 or '16 maybe. By now it's something I would really avoid. I understand if folks like Graphene OS, Lineage OS, ROMs based on AOSP on their Pixels. But hell no, I would not desecrate a Pixel with MIUI, Color OS... anything that comes from Xiaomi or BBK Electronics.

Happy to elaborate! Stock OS 13 sucks balls. OnePlus is the only company I seen as of yet who is able to keep the much desired options and functions intact. Android 13 overhauled the entire UI and continued the stupid trend of big, flashy, dumb and hidden , that all systems and devices tend to have. Making everything bigger, harder to find and remove functions that many powers users love is the common trend. I'm up for trying a new ROM that mimicks OnePlus that could potentially give more function and features back. I've never tried MIUI yet but praying for changing out.

You may not have noticed, but BBK Electronics is the company behind Oppo, Vivo, OnePlus, Realme und iQOO and their stock ROMs are going to have or have the same base, which will or has change(d) things for Oxygen OS. BBK is a big ass company, and the Oxygen OS from the original OnePlus has lost it's soul when Oppo merged with OnePlus. BBK is up to max profits, so they try to save money on development and Oxygen OS / Color OS and all that stuff will be (almost) the same I guess. I had a OnePlus 9, and when I realized they did not implement OIS on the regular 9 to upsell the pro model it was the deathblow after being annoyed by the newer OnePlus stuff. I had a Realme GT 2 Pro, and those ROMs are OKish, but having a Pixel somehow feels more like the real thing.
Regarding Xiaomi/MIUI ... why do people get a Pixel 7 and not a Mi 12 Pro, if they prefer some bloated kindergarten OS like MIUI? I had the first MIUI ROMs on my HTC desire back then, was an admin of 2 german MIUI forums, translating the ROM and what not, but as Xiaomi got bigger the overall concept of MIUI/Xiaomi went down the drain and I started to avoid Xiaomi. Sure, they got a lot of cool gadgets and stuff, but screw that company for so many reasons.
Just read today, that the first nightly of Lineage OS is available for Panther... maybe give that one a try before wishing for MIUI. If there would be a MIUI ROM for the newer Pixels, let's hope it would be based on the xiaomi.eu ROM.
Why not just buy a xiaomi phone. I used to love MIUI and Xiaomi things, but not now. I like Xiaomi 13 and will not buy pixel 7 if Xiaomi 13 has some custom rom with well support
