So earlier today I was attempting to grab an online photo of someone to associate with a contact so I don't accidentally reject the call (I tend to just let people I don't know go to voice mail). So I looked up the number with Firefox/duckduckgo, found the photo I wanted, did a press/hold and the menu pops up. Select 'Set image as' and then selected Contacts.
Contacts then crashes (I tried it twice, with the same result, except the second time it asked to close app or send feedback, vs restart app and send feedback.)
So is this a bug? Or is it me thinking the phone should be smarter than that? I mean is Contacts thinking I'm opening it AS a Contact? And since all it sees is a jpg, it crashes?
This seems like it'd be good functionality. now I wonder if Bixby would look up a photo and put it into a contact for me....

I got my Diamond last Thursday and have been using it with my secondary sim whilst I got used to the phone and became used to using it intuitively... I am happy to say I am now completely comfortable with it and it is *almost* perfect!
Changes:
*Bepe 0.97 FIXED
*Diamond Advance Config tool
*S2U2
*Comm Manager advance.
Thank you to all the great people working to made this device all it should be! Donations forthcoming very soon!
I have just a few questions with regard to my remaining issues:
*The contacts summary page which comes up after ending a call, any way to suppress that?
*Is there any way to bluetooth contacts, files (pictures/music etc) to and from another mobile phone? I tried transferring a jpg image, an MP3 ringtone and a contact via bluetooth from a Sony Ericsson W880i but all three failed!
*Is there any way to display contacts as FORENAME SURNAME as opposed to SURNAME, FORENAME?
Thank you in advance for any advice regarding the above
Anyone?????
Think I might be able to help you out there.
1. To get rid of that contacts thing at the end of a call, tap Phone on the Home screen, then tap Menu and then Options. Go to the Advanced tab right at the end and untick "Add new phone number to Contacts at end of call".
2. To receive files of any kind over bluetooth, you have to have Bluetooth turned on in the Comm Manager, but you also need to have the Beam option turned on. If you have the modified Comm manager then you should be able to see the Beam option in there.
3. All my contacts show up as "forename surname" already, I think it might be to do with how you have it set up in Outlook, because I remember Outlook had it "surname, forename" by default and that drove me mad until I changed it. Hunt around in Outlook to change the way they're displayed, then do a sync, and I'd say that should do it.

Thanks for taking the time to reply Dave!
The contact summary still seems to come up I did untick this box a few days ago and maybe its a bug but the screen still appears on finishing a call.
I turned on Beam and the bluetooth file transfer now works just fine, thank you!
I will sync up when I get home and have a play around with Outlook, thanks for the suggestion I think that will remedy this problem too.
Is there an advanced contact manager or SMS manager out there by chance? Sending and receiving a few SMS today and the whole transition from TF3d to the WM is a bit jarry, and browsing contacts isnt really possible without the stylus... so far these are the only small niggles in day to day use! The latest version of S2U2 really helps usability and allows you to lock the hardware buttons when you get an incoming call... no more calls answered by mistake with this app!
No bother.
I never manually browse the contacts list because it scrolls very strangely, its impossible to successfully pick a contact.
The best way to select a contact when sending a text, I've found, is to type the first letter or two of their name, eg "DA" and then everyone with a name starting with DA is listed, eg DAD, DAVE etc. Much better than scrolling a list. Its the same behaviour when making a call and you want to select a contact; just bring up the Phone app (the one with the keypad) and start typing their name on the number pad.
I agree though that the process of moving from TF3D to WM6 when sending a text is very clunky. I wonder would HTC consider developing their own TouchFlo messaging software that covers all aspects of sending SMS and email. Unfortunately the iPhone still has the advantage there; you still have to get out the stylus every now and then on the Diamond.
I have most of my most frequently used numbers under the People tab in TF3D... good suggestions as above though.
May give this a try if I cant get along with the SMS...

Has anyone yet figured out a way to not have the Captivate log every single text and call you make?
It is so annoying to have to hunt all through my phone looking for tracks. Originally I assumed that they could be erased by deleting the thread in messaging. Wrong!
So then go to the contact/history and delete it there. Wrong! There is nothing in the history tab.
So then open the dialer, go to call log and look, every sent and recieved text, mms, and call is logged there as well. Its like a paranoid secret agent designed this system.
And heaven forbid that you installed a second messaging program such as Handcent to log everything all over again.
I currently use Horizon to keep my private texts private, but even that allows the outgoing texts to be logged.
Yes, deleting the thread, then selecting every individual item in the log from the unwanted caller works. Or even deleting the entire call log at once will work. But short of that has anyone come up with a work around for the call logging intrusion?
Found "Not log this call" on the market to auto delete phone calls log (Not free).
For sms you can edit the text message limit and reduce it to 1. This will at least keep 1 text message in store before it gets deleted. But default it's set to 200 msg per conversation and 20 mms per conversation.
Interesting. I looked at that app, I may have to try it.
Did you actually get your message inbox to go to 1? Mine will only go down to 10.
I am currently testing it to see if it erases the call log history as it erases the inbox but I dont think it does.
Ok, so setting the message limit to 10 only deletes the messages, not the logs.
However, while playing with it I found out that by selecting one of the logged entries (text or call) it pulls up a history type page. From there you can select the bottom left soft key, choose delete and then choose select all. I am not sure but I think it only deletes one page at a time or something as it seems to leave a few behind. I am still playing but its a hell of a lot better that trying to select each individual log in the main log screen. Its sort of what you would expect the history tab in the contact screen to do. (especially if you came from WinMo )
I hope someone else finds this helpful. I did a lot of searching and found a lot of complaints about this awful "feature" but no answers. This isnt much of an answer but its seems a bit more tolerable since I figured the history part out.
It also seems to be something Samsung adds as Evo and the Droid don't do it.
Check out HistoryEraser. I think I saw it on Lifehacker a few days ago, supposed to wipe away all your unwanted tracks.
I have no idea what is going on, or why it started, but I've had this issue since I got my Droid 3, and I hoped that when I got my Droid 4, it would stop...
My phone is assigning random facebook pictures to people as their caller ID picture. I will get a phone call from friend A, and it will show the picture of friend B, or some other random facebook picture.
If I assign a picture to a contact on my phone (such as one I took with the camera), if I receive a call it will show the picture correctly, however, if I dial that person it will show some other random facebook picture.
For some people, the picture comes up correctly, but for many it does not.
Certainly there is some cache somewhere I can clear to fix this, right?
If you have FB contacts syncing, the phone will try to auto pair them with your Google contacts.
Mine tries to tie my info that I have in Gmail for my alternative e-mails/numbers with my dad's fb info even though our display names are listed differently(he's in fb as Billy, and my info is under William)
If that's what's wrong to fix it, in contacts go into the contact that is messed up. Hit menu, and look for separate(under more).
Alright, so I am still having this problem, even after uninstalling the facebook apps...
I want to clear my Contacts Storage, but in Menu > Settings > Applications > Manage Applications > Contacts Storage the "clear data" button is grayed out.
Any way to clear this WITHOUT doing a factory data reset?
Thanks!
Have you tried joining the contacts (I assume they are already joined), then setting the google profile as Default? That will make their name and photo the one you assigned to the google contact. Let me know if that works.
Hi, so I tried to send an MMS once and it was sent, but the person did not receive it (i don't know why. crappy phone, lack of settings). Now every time I would try to text someone, that picture would pop up and I would have to remove it.
Afterwards I just deleted the picture from my phone and I started getting "Protected file, cannot send." instead of the image. I put the photo back with the same name in the same place and I still get this error.
Does anyone know what I can do to stop this? It's annoying, I always have to wait a few seconds for the message to go away so that I may use my keyboard.
Thanks.
Really weird, something unexplainable.
I'm currently using a T-Mobile Note 5. Previous device was Note 4. So far, I like the phone, (N4 performance was disappointing) but there are a few quirks that I have yet to find a way to circumvent. Like anything, I'm sure there's value to someone for this stuff, just not for me.
1. When sharing an image from a gallery, it prompts me to either send to an Existing Contact or new contact. So they make the first app chosen when opening a new file or link the default app automatically (one of the quirks I don't necessarily prefer, but I can live with), but then add this?
2. Caller ID contact images for incoming and outgoing calls are tiny. I've reuploaded high res images to the contact and opened the contact locally to ensure the image was loaded and cached (so it didn't just display the small image with the blurry background) and still tiny. Both making and receiving calls.
3. If i"m doing something, incoming calls show up as a pop up card with a double ended arrow to expand it. I can live with it, but i'd prefer full screen.Any way to change that default behavior?
4. When in the messenger, tapping the paperclip to select an image attach from your gallery automatically sends the message. You can only select "Send", there is no attach option. Composing text before attaching does nothing and the picture is sent and your text stays in the text box.
I was able to solve the issue of disabling screen mirroring, and no way to keep capacitive touch buttons illuminated with the installation of a few light-weight apps that reenabled the options, but I have been unsuccessful finding anything about the four things I mentioned above.

Click to collapse
I do not have the t-mobile version so I do not know what the difference would be but my attachment button works on the stock app.
I'm able to attach files fine, it's just the behavior when I attach them. Using the attached screenshots, I'll start out in a message and I'll tap my paperclip.
After tapping the paperclip, I'll be presented with the attach menu which as my recent photos and then the other options.
Upon selecting an option, there is only one button and that is send in the top right. If I push Send, it sends the picture. If I have text in the message field, it will NOT attach the picture so the image and text go as one message. My text stays untouched in draft and it sends just the picture.
That is weird. After I select a file I have a done button where your send button is. I wonder if it has something to with the advanced messaging for t-mobile.
All I can do is picture the Dr. Evil meme with "Advanced Messaging" in quotes...
I'll see if I can find a non-updated N5 and test the behavior. When I get a new phone I do all the OS updates first, and a fresh factory wipe so I didn't even bother looking to see what was contained in the update.
I could do without the video calling button monopolizing the entire send key area since I'll never use it...
I had to go so far as to check if Easy Mode was set up... Nice job Apple Samsung.
Either way thanks for the heads up. I was out of the loop and didn't even know about the advanced messaging and that sounds like a viable lead.
Just to close the loop on this in case someone else stumbles across it. Disabling VoLTE in the call settings "fixes" #1 and #4.
Thanks to bryyyan, which is where I first learned about this.
