Gallery picture viewer on Desire HD slow as hell

Hi
As anyone find a better alternative to the built in gallery app ? some of my pics are high quality and large and it takes for ever for the device to view them. Jerky as hell..
When I viewed the same pics on my HD2 (With WM.6.5.1) they were two times faster.
Any help would be appreciated. I don't mind even paying $20 if only I could find an app that would view pictures fast.

Funny you say that because i had the same problem, but now its become alot faster over time, i dont know why but it may be the same for you, How long have you had the infamous dhd for

Had my DHD for about a week or so. I'm glad I am not the only one who complains about it. I will see if it gets much better with time. Right now sometimes it's so slow the app kinda freezes for a few seconds from time to time.

Hey...Had the exact same problem...did couple of things...the issue is gone, but not sure which following method helped
1. Installed the OTA update
2. Turned on USB debugging
3. Did a Hard Reset
4. Formatted my SD card with 32KB block size
Am sure anyone of this Should've helped as i don't see the lag in album anymore...
if u happen to try it...please let me know, which one fixes it.

Install OSmonitor from the market.when your Gallery app happens to be slow open OSmonitor and check if process "/init" is not using 100% CPU.if yes,there is your problem.there are several threads in here about this problem.

Man...y so fast..i was about to PM u the step by step process....now am Jobless..!!!

Strangely enough, enabling USB-debugging actually seems to help, thanks!

solved mine by removing big videos
I also had this problem... but it was due to the fact that I had 3 x 1GB movies in the DCIM folder and when these were removed it was a lot quicker at showing the 120+ thumbnails and also in creating them.

I use JustPictures ! Great App.

Gallery picture viever slow
Try soft reset your device, maybe can soft the problem. I also have same problem with my Desire HD before this, after do that my pic gallery getting faster now.

download alternative programs to view photos.its memory, u got it full.its not phone thats lags.its settings or not enough RAM, reset phone no or how!

[Q] Camera app

So after having gone through 5 different camera apps that won't use the front facing camera and also switch to video mode, it's getting frustrating install and uninstalling.
The stock camera works but is sloooooow.
What camera apps have y'all installled from the market that you like and works well with the FFC and switching to video mode?

Flash this (my custom one thx to |ErosizeD| ) let me know is this work for you. it work on my thrill pretty fast.

it will make the camera resolution clear and fast

So much better. Takes about a second and a half to 2 seconds from first tapping the icon for it to be ready to take pics. Then somewhere between a second and two seconds to take the pic.
That's a huge improvement and takes away my need for another camera app.

I tried it out, went from a 5 second launch to a 3 second launch. So any improvement is welcome.

Everything on this I thought was great until I went to look at my gallery. The resolution is way whacked out on viewing photos/icons/etc in my gallery.
How do I undo the mod? Do I just delete the apk?
The more I think about this, the more it irks me. Do they not have a QA person that checks things? I mean, c'mon, 5+ more seconds to start up and then the terrible delay on snapping pics. Well, unless your idea of a good camera is it takes long enough so you can make a pot of coffee and drink a couple cups.

I don't have problem but you can always undo it
copy zip file file to your SDcard unzip it using root explorer copy mediaprofile.xml and TicameraCameraProperties.xml
to your etc folder using root explorer and restart the phone
that will undo it

I can confirm that this mod doesn't work on gingerbread

wait is the resolution problem recurring? Or was it just for that guy.

stock ics browser poor performance when zoom

i'm sorry for my poor english
i'm using a 9020T
after flashing the stock 4.0.3 OTA, everything is good except browsing some chinese sites(such as www.163.com www.sina.com.cn in desktop mode) with the stock browser
on those sites, when i zoom in to max, the characters will not be clear after several secs(for 5-8 secs most of the times, though sometimes only 2-3 secs ,and sometimes 15+ secs,so i think maybe something is bugged)
and then, after the characters are ok and the redering finished , if zoom out to min again, it will use even more time to show all page than zooming in.
i tried to do a full wipe , unfortunately the issue persists in a newly flashed ics4.0.3 with no google account logged,with almost every setting disabled, even with no sim card
also tested with 3g /edge / wifi.
but what the strange thing is, i have asked some 9023 people but they don't have the issue, and one of my friends using 9020T just got the same as i got.
i've seen some one on xda get the same issue on visiting a non-english site

also the cpu score in quadrant is much lower than nexus one 2.2+

I have noticed the same issues.

Any resolution to this? I'm noticing the same issues, and I'm wondering why.

Unable to root 4now. Compare with other version i think is smoother even than indian V20B.
Quadrant score is not reliable comparing with user experience.

It's interesting that the build date is 6 jan and they waited until now to publish it.

Did You update via lg program? Does it wipes everything (i.e. programs, settings like a factory restore) or just updates the soft and everything else stays the same?

i just updated 2 hours ago . The LG software update just update the firmware, without wipe.
But indeed i made a factory reset , just to be sure ...
Everything seems to be fine until now , just a little bit battery hungry ... about 10 % in 2 hours ... without wifi, 3G and sync on .

I got to correct what i said earlier about battery consumption. It is much worse...
In fact i am beginning to regret the upgrade i made.
Anyone else has the same huge battery drain ?!

Is the update worth? And after i flash this update, could i use the phone on the Cosmote? I have it unlocked at the moment but was branded on Orange. I've seen that after the update the battery drain is faster than on Froyo.
I have 2.2.2 at the moment and it's working just fine.

for me the battery is ok better than froyo!
my problem is with video recording lags and fps!

I updated to 2.3.4 official, version V20f. Well, i didn't tried to rec a video but i will do it now to see if you're right. Other than that, i find this update very fine, the battery life is ok and is a lot smooth than 2.2.2.

I also made the update. All looks and feel better, but I have 2 main problems:
- battery keeps me only 12 hours (before, it was about 24-30 hours)
- gallery keeps crashing if I open it and there is a new picture added. If I make a restart, it will open, but if at some point, there is another picture added into the gallery, it crashes again, until the next restart.
Any ideas why?

Try to make a factory reset after the update.

I was afraid of that. Just too many settings and apps that I didn't wanted to make them or install again
Anyway, I finally did it and for now all seems to be working good, so thank you.

how is the in-call sound quality? i had an optimus one which had perfect audio quality in-call and now i got the OB which seems very low volume compared to that.

The in-call sound quality seems very good for me. I have no problems with this update so far.

I have updated my phone to v20f after updating to v20n and i have a big problem.
My quadrant score hasn't improved at all, if anything it dropped.
My phone is not rooted or anything but I don't understand why I can't get vion77 score.

Photos not showing up after taking pictures

ok i searched this issue but found nothing useful or helpful to fix this but every picture i take seems to dissappear after a few minutes and all i get is a gray triangle with an ! mark inside it for all pictures taken by the camera. anyone else have this issue?

No body is having issues with pictures not displaying correctly?? Im on ViperONEM8 rom but it did this on the stock rom and badboyz as well. must not be rom related but i dont know so sum one have any ideas what the issue is? thanks

Have you tried changing the storage location? Also, are you restoring your gallery each time you try a new ROM? You could have the folder hidden on accident and as you restore the gallery that folder becomes hidden again. See if you cannot find the photos another way, for example: Quickpic or ES File Browser.

unfortunately yes i did try changing the storage location, in the camera app i changed it to ext sdcard & phone storage both same issue. also i used the Xposed module "Downloads2SD" & "Pictures2SD" both to change the location but still same issue. as for restoring my gallery, no i dont restore it at all when installing new rom. unless somehow it automatically restores from my google account but i dont think it does.
I also have used Root Browser & ES File Explorer to look in every directory on phone and sdcard for the pictures and they cant be found anywhere.

What happens when you use a different camera app? If that doesn't work either I would suggest an RUU. If an RUU doesn't work I would suggest returning the phone.

still not working with other camera apps. im gonna try RUUing once and see if it still does it. i took a few pics today and all seemed fine until i went to view them later on then they were just displaying the gray triangle thing.. one pic was there and viewed fine one sec then the next its just like the others. i just looked in the gallery now and it shows the previews of these pics but i tap to open them and get the triangle again. its weird & really frustrating i took tons of great pics over the time with this phone and lost them all from this, except of course the stupid test shots ive taken of my wall or whatever pointless shots.. they seem to stay fine its just the important ones that wont.. aarrrghhh gonna RUU right now.

pictures i take sometimes show with parts of it having a section thats gray.. usually more then 50% of the pic is that way otherwise there is no pic just a black screen with the ! as shown in previous post here. can anyone please help me. ive lost a lot of important good pics due to this.

I am having the same issue i moved all my pictures to the external storage card to free up space but now the pics are in limbo i cant find them i just have the triangle where they use to be. the same thing holds true for apps

im beginning to suspect that KK write protection with the external sdcard is the culprit for this but im on viperonem8 and have tried the fixes i found that are suppose to fix the write protection issue and still having same issues. so anyone have any working fixes at all please let us know thanks

I am having the exact same issue and it is frustrating as hell. Especially when I get a great picture, then I go to show someone and it is ****ING GONE.. The only way that I can seem to save them if is when I take them, I immediately share them. After doing extensive research, I have narrowed it down to 2 possible issues.
1) The SD card is somehow corrupted, I purchased a 64GB SD card from eBay and I just recently read about an SD card scandal that was going on which could be the culprit. To test this, I am first going to try with a smaller card that I know works. If that doesn't work, I am going to have the pictures stored on the phone and see if that keeps them.
2) This problem really started to show itself after I downloaded an app called OneGallery, I don't really know if that has anything to do with it, or if it is completely coincidence. If replacing the SD card doesn't work, deleting this app will be the next step.
I love the phone too much to just turn it in or swap it out.
