As long as you follow the steps on the HTC website to unlock the bootloader, you should be good to go.

It's what I wanted to do, went to HTC website on steps how to unlock bootloader, this is what first two steps say:
https://i.imgur.com/c8EAKYw.png
But for me it's different menu after I enter bootloader mode. I have this:
https://i.imgur.com/Zo2JsLA.jpg
So, fastboot and bootloader options in this mode aren't available at all. I can't progress over step 1 and 2 because of it. I can't highlight Fastboot as it's told in the guide, because it's not there.

Yes, I've tried it both. Reboot to bootloader gives me this menu (which is basically the same): https://i.imgur.com/ZdhS8u2.jpg
And Reboot to download reboots to the same default mode with same options.

What's wrong with my phone!!!

Okay, so i've been on and off these forums and never decided to create an account until now. (I know you guys see these types of threads a lot)
I have an HTC Vivid and can't get it to boot. Whenever I try turning it on, it goes into fastboot (I have bootloader unlocked) or HBOOT.
I have tried getting CWM on it, but whenever it reboots, it gets stuck at the HTC logo like when you usually boot.
I can re-lock the bootloader, but it wont change a thing.
Also, when I type [adb devices] my device doesn't show up, but the phone says FASTBOOT USE.
When I try a factory reset, all it does is reboot the phone. Also I do not have a SD card with me.
This is my second HTC Vivid (the first one was rooted successfully with the Illiminati ROM but had a malfunction so I got a new one under warranty)
I have been using this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1450396
and this program: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1498003 (which may be the cause to all of this idk)
I would invest in a cheap micro sd. I used the zip from the guide thread to restore mine back to stock (although I believe you have to relock bootloader first) and then try to unlock and root etc after that. I know that may not help if you have no way to get an sd. But they are always handy!

fastboot oem lock is the command.
From there, get ruu.exe, connect phone to computer, run the ruu by doubleclicking on the computer, follow the directions of the ruu program.
From there you can unlock the bootloader using the guides posted and flash recovery, then flash custom rom.

If you've never done fastboot or adb before, my guess is that you are probably running stock. If that's the case, got to htc's website and download the drivers for the Vivid, then plug your phone in and proceed to run the RUU.exe. If the drivers are properly installed, the RUU should detect your phone and update it to ICS (make sure to back up your files as phone storage will be erased as well).

First you need to unlock your bootloader. See those directions :*http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1928551 Then you can root it, and it should work fine.
What if my device can not be bootloader unlocked? I have got problem triggering bug report using motofail2go.
hzhqwe You need to select factory in fastboot menu. Then Your phone should boot as normal.

fastboot: bootloader locked or unlocked?

Hey guys
I noticed that many people are having problems to flash using fastboot. They report that fastboot says the bootloader would be locked, even if it's definitely unlocked.
so my question, who of you is able to flash (kernels for example) using
Code:
adb reboot bootloader
fastboot flash boot boot.img
and who can flash using
Code:
adb reboot oem-unlock
fastboot flash boot boot.img
I've been talking to LG about this problem, but all they said was to change a driver config for ADB. But due to the fact that I'm using Linux, it is impossible that it is a driver problem. I also tried their "solution", but guess what... it didn't work.

I can't really test adb due to idiot computer asking for disk to be inserted. But when I reboot to bootloader it says "now ready" which didn't happen when it was locked. Used the hacked method too, my odm_reserved reads:

guys, I'm stuck at the CM10.1 boot animation, and after reading numerous posts I found some saying that I need to flash the boot.img through the fastboot. I've managed to go to the Welcome to LG Fastboot Mode though TWRP2.5.0.0 reboot -> bootloader. But when i try fastboot devices my device isn't listed... Any advice on what should I do? Is there any other way to solve the boot issue? I've waited like 15 mins with the phone not getting further than the CM10.1 Logo... :'(
PS: I'm using Minimalistic ADB and Fastboot from here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=42407269
both reboot commands "oem-unlock" and "bootloader" are defined in the kernel source code. "oem-unlock" sets an intern hardware flag for booting the unlocked mode and "bootloader" just sets the normal bootloader flag.
wondering why the reboot parameter "recovery" actually only does a normal reboot? (CM has an additional script they call before rebooting to recovery for setting the recovery boot flag)
right, no "recovery" command defined in the kernel source, but its only a few lines of code to add this
------
reboot
bootloader: locked fastboot
oem-unlock: unlocked fastboot
some time ago i messed around with these hardware flags and now oem-unlock doesnt work. it boots instead into recovery lol. no clue why

How do I root an HTC One GE on a Mac. Done some googling and couldn't find an answer.
You have the simplest device on the market to root. The procedure is the same as for a Nexus device. Mac or PC, it makes no difference, just install the SDK for OSX.
Any link with instructions. I rooted my N4 and it was crazy easy. I'm a noon at this.
I've written a tutorial. Check the link in my sig.

So I used a "one click" solution for my N4. I vaguely remember those commands you entered. Is there a step by step somewhere that will tell me what to enter in terminal and what to download, etc.

Ohh come on
Here it is!!
1. Hope you have fastboot drivers on youe pc(if not, get it)
2. Put recovery.img in the same folder where you have fastboot(on pc)
3. Get superuser.zip and put it on phone.
4. Get into bootloader mode and get into fastboot USB by connecting phone to PC.
5. In cmd type "fastboot oem unlock"
"fastboot reboot-bootloader"
6. Now you have ***UNLOCKED*** in BL
7. Now in cmd again,
"fastboot flash recovery recovery.img"
8. Now in BL, get into recovery
9. From recovery, you will have option to flash zip
10. Select it and flash superuser.zip
Ta Da
You are done

I disagree. The GS2 is the simplest. You just flash the recovery via ODIN and flash superSU through that recovery. No ADB or unlock tokens or S-off or anything. It runs 4.2.2 AOSP just great. To get back to stock everything, you just do a reset via ODIN. No traces of root whatsoever. <sigh> Those were the good ol' days.
It still makes one hell of a first phone, though.
Looks like I have root, but it seems like after some time of the phone being on, it loses root access and I have to reboot in order to regain root access. Any ideas?

Right! As I haven't got the phone yet, didn't find out that new OTA have different boot.img. So as for now, rooting means just firmware on website is usable.
In the future if there is an update you will need to unroot, flash the original boot. Flash the rom update and then extract the new boot, patch it with magisk and flash the new patched boot to enjoy root again.
Personally I would rather stay on stock enjoy the timely OTA updates and keep my warranty.

There is no such option with the stock recovery. Any way why do you need that. You don't need to use ADB commands to flash the patched boot.img.

There used to be a fastboot mode on the ROG phone on Android Oreo, i am not sure if things changed with Android Pie.
Anyway try the hardware method to connect, turn your phone off and connect it to the PC using the side port make sure to hold the low volume key when connecting the phone to the PC. See if a fastboot mode black screen shows up.
If not:
On the bootloader screan the second one you showed. On your PC after going to your platform tools and running the cmd window from there type the command:
Fastboot devices
Does it recognize your device?, if it does run the 2 commands stated in step 8. But do it on your own risk if something goes wrong you might brick the device and if you are not able to flash back the stock boot i am afraid you will end up with a bricked device until a solution is suggested.
I can't get into fast boot mode. Tried all options, volume up, volume down, usb, no usb, debugging on, debugging off...
No luck.
