Can Tasker automate the abling and disabling of a security PIN for unlocking the phone? For example, while at home I would like to have no screen lock, but while out I would like more security and so would like a PIN to be required for accessing the phone. Thanks in advance.
Yes it can

When I'm off work later tonight I can post step by step instructions. Do you have wifi at home? Because I have mine set so that it knows I'm at home when I'm connected to my home wifi.
thats exactly what I want! I would appreciate it very much!
1. Create new profile - name it whatever you want
2. Under First Context choose State > Net > Wifi Connected
3. Under SSID input your home wifi's network name or if connected to it then just hit the magnifying lens in the upper right and select your home network and hit the green checkmark at the bottom to save it
4. Choose New Task and name it whatever you want.
5. Hit the plus sign to add a new action and choose Plugin > Secure Settings
6. Now hit Edit under Configuration and change Keyguard to either password/pin or pattern lock (depending on what security you've choosen) and select Off (I also check the setting where I've got to enter in my pass code once before it will unlock but that's up to you) and then hit the disk icon in the bottom right to save it and again confirm that you want to save it.
7. Hit the green checkmark again and also on the next screen.
8. Then click on the action you created and choose Add Exit Task and repeat the steps starting at step 4 but this time under Password/Pin or Pattern Lock choose On.
9. Then just keep hitting the green checkmarks until you exit out of Tasker.
I typed this out on my phone on the bus ride home so let me know if it's not clear or I missed a step. And you will need to first install Secure Settings that I linked to earlier.
Awesome, thanks for posting that! I haven't used Tasker, or Locale or any other automating app, so I'm curious, why would one choose Tasker over Locale? I just have a few simple things i want to automate (though that list could grow once I get into it).

I've never used Locale but before I bought Tasker I read a few reviews comparing the two and it seems that Locale is more user friendly but Tasker is more powerful. But for most everyday uses Locale will probably work fine.

I did exactly as you said and i can't get it to work. Did you clear the lock settings in security before doing this or keep that? Also what rom are you using, that may be the problem for me (elite ics).
I've tried setting a lock, and then connecting to wifi but lock doesn't go away. I also tried having no lock set and turning off wifi, but the lock doesn't show up on the screen.

I didn't think to add that you've also gotta open Secure Settings and select the Helper tab and install the Helper. There's also an option there to download a flashable zip to install the helper (it's gotta be in system to work). I've just gotten so used to flashing the helper every time I flash a new ROM I didn't think of it.

Had Helper installed and still didn't work. Btw Helper is for pattern only, you don't need it for pin/password.
I'll try playing around some more tomorrow. Thanks for the help!
I'm very interested in this. If you get this working I may have to break down and buy tasker. Always been curious about it, but never really had a purpose of it til this came up.

Sorry, don't know what to tell you. Tasker's working great for me.
tried llama and it kinda worked with built-in actions but not with the secure settings plugin.
Couldn't you also do it by location as well, instead of Wifi connection. Which is basically Locale.

Hello, I'm having issues with my N6 after the Marshmallow But I am facing a problem that for each application, I am getting screen overlay detected. If I follow on screen instructions, in settings, I can't change permission. i cannot upload any images from my phone to facebook, instagram basically any app trying to access the drive on my phone. can you guys help solve this issue.
thanks,
A quick Google search for "screen overlay detected" found a lot of results indicating this is due to screen filtering apps that modify the screen brightness, such as Lux, Bluelight Filter, Twilight, etc.

Yes, they also prevent you granting root access to apps too. Lux is the most common. These apps put an overlay over the UI. Android protection prevents you pressing "serious" buttons in case it is the overlay working to malicious intents.

okay. I have called google support for five nights and not one tech support person was able to help me. After countless hours of fiddling i figured out how to fix this problem. Put your phone in safe mode (press the power off button and press on the on screen power off icon until it asks if you want to go in safe mode. Press okay) then once it reboots, go to settings, then apps, click on the facebook app or whatever app you have the problem with, press permissions and then turn on all the permissions (toggle to the right and it should turn green). Repeat for whichever other apps have this problem then turn reboot the phone and voila! It's fixed. :d

I was thinking going back to Lollipop, then you saved my days. This "Screen overlay detected" was driving me nuts as I have tons of apps that requires "Draw over other apps" such as Sidebar Launcher, SuperSU, Widgetsoid, Rotation Manager... almost 30 apps. So every time I install new app I virtually have to turn off the "Draw over other apps" for all these 30 then set the permissions then turn them on again. It's so frustrating. And if I stupidly reset permissions for all apps then virtually most are unusable. Now with Safemode I can grant an app all the permissions it requires without turn the "Draw over other apps" off.

Best solution out there. Tnx.
@jokeinc I don't have twilight, lux, or any CM apps. Your solution is the only solution to have worked for me. Thank you so much!
I have a Samsung galaxy s6 and it didn't work for me, i have tried everythings but the only way is go into ultra power safe mode and from here i was able to activate permissions for whatsapp. For activate the other apps i don't know what to do.
Sorry for my bad english but i'm desperate??

Thanks but i solved the problemi. I just unistalled CM Locker
It's good you solved your problem. You shouldn't be running anything from Cheetah Mobile, as every single app they produce is pretty much junk.
Grrr
Omni swipe program can also cause this disable it or uninstall
For me it's just SwipePad that I use which has an always on overlay. If you know what apps are overlaying I've found a workaround you can setup. Ideally an app shouldn't have an invisible overlay permanently hogging resources so you should find and disable them permanently if they're unwanted anyway. An app like Elixir with it's "running" processes/services filtered to User can help finding the culprit.
So I use a workaround to quickly disable an overlay for permission toggling. A "Task Shortcut" that uses the Tasker Greenify plugin (don't know if pro is required) to Hibernate the overlay app/s, Wait for a configured time and then Wake. Note that the wake process takes five seconds to finish.
I open my shortcut from SwipePad itself for it to disable for ten seconds while I click away at permissions to my hearts content. When the time is up it resumes working normally and all is well :highfive:

This is because of the apps that are using "draw over other apps" feature. You can just turn them off from settings. If you want a head up on how to do this, you can go to this link here. Fix screen overlay detected

i'm ready to put my phone in the garbage disposal over this error. i can't get rid of it and can't even download a simple APK file from chrome without getting it. I've done everything suggested in every youtube video and what you said above.
i turn off screen overlay for every app shown, which is about 30 and i have none of the so called problem apps installed.
i go into safe mode and try to turn on a permission and I STILL GET THE SCREEN OVERLAY ERROR. i have no idea what to do or what is wrong.
Hi,
I am having a major issue with Marshmallow 6.0.1 on my Rooted N910T and it's driving me nuts! I'm totally new to MM and I have no idea how to handle this, or if it even can be handled.
This is a new phone for me, that was fresh and I updated to MM using Samsung's ROM, Rooted it and have PhilZ Recoveey on it.
After I install apps that need access to my Storage (or some other things), like for example "OfficeSuite Pro", which needs access to my Storage, a message pops up when I open the app, telling me it needs that access. So I tap "Allow".
Then another message comes up that says; "Screen Overlay Detected" and it tells me that I have to turn it Off. So I tap "Open Settings".
Then it takes me to a list of apps that each have an On/Off switch and it says; "Apps that can appear on top" at the top of that screen.. And sometimes I can move the switch, sometimes I can't. But whether it's already in the right position, or I can move it there (and I've tried both settings) makes no difference.
I.e., it still does the same thing when I go into the apps and so in this example, I still can't access my documents.
May I please humbly request, does anyone have any idea what's going on here and how to hopefully fix it? I would be so amazingly grateful!!!
Thank You!

If you have a screen color changing app like Twilight or F.lux running, pause it and run whatever you want without overlay bother. When you're done with your app, resume your color changing app.

Have you used any type of system disabler app to disable anything or did you do anything right before this started? I guess you've tried rebooting the phone.
I am using a disabler app, but don't remember doing anything specific before it started happening. But now that you mention it, it's very possible I disabled something semi-important which I will look into right now.
I had disabled "settings suggestions", which I have now enabled and fixed the problem, thanks!
I have this problem that when I want to activate an accessibility service, I get a pop up message that says if there is an overlapping app blocking the options I should drag it away or close the app, as in the screenshot attached. I have no idea what is causing this but I have not been able to activate any accessibility services since upgrading to MIUI version 10.2. The device is rooted with magisk. Any help will be appreciated to get this sorted out. I get the Pop-Up each time I tap ok.

Turn off full screen gestures, this is blocking the Accessibility settings.
After you have enabled the Accessibility stuff, I believe you can turn on full screen gestures again.

You're welcome.
Actually I had the same problem in Februari on my Mi Note 2 (I have a Mix1 also, they are very closely related as to firmware).
After trying everything I could think of, and nothing helped, I sat back and thought "what else draws over other apps"?
Bingo! Gestures.
And it worked.
