Viper4Android & Pure Nexu

I am using Pure Nexus rom with it's kernel. I installed viper4android to make the audio clearer and boost the audio in my bluetooth headset. The volume got lower and I have no idea what to do. I tried to boost the gain but it's not working. Are there any simplified videos or can anyone help me with viper4android installation and all?

Bluetooth volume is completely dependent on your headset. Since the phone doesn't actually power it all you can do is boost the gain which depending on the source can sound good or not so much.
As for saying V4a not seeming to do anything open the menu and switch "FX Compatible mode" from normal to compatible. This makes the app only function in scenarios that regular EQ apps for android work in but it's the only way to make it work w/o using a fully permissive kernel.
And a little quirk I found in Pure Nexus and possibly other roms that have the functionality to add more steps to volume sliders, on my bluetooth soundbar in particular which uses the synchronized volume system (Volume on the soundbar is changed in relation to volume set on the phone). If I set the volume steps to 30 instead of 15 then the bar wil think it's at full volume when the phone is only at half and the remaining 15 steps of volume will just be extra gain. (sounds like crap after a few bumps but might help you i dunno)

First make sure in viper your controlling the bluetooth section by sliding all the way right... speaker and headset are seperate from bluetooth. Then if nothing flies still you could always try a custom kernel that has audio gain such as elementalX and franco and use kernel auduitor to edit the gain to pick up louder. Other than that there is a hidden file somewhere I cant remember where you can edit them manually. Also check under settings under sound advanced to make sure safe headset sound is disabled. Thats everything tho. That or uninstall viper driver in the viper app restart phone into recovery and clear dalvik and art cache then wait for it to rebuild and open viper and reinstall the driver. Thats all I can suggest.

My volume was louder before I installed viper. I think that's the weird thing for me. I can hear me breathing over the music (using lg 800).

You sure you installed the viper4android driver inside the app as well as flashing the .zip in twrp... once you open it you should see driver install in settings dropdown...

Then if it is installed and says uninstall driver if it is in the dropdown... slide to bluetooth tab and select enabled V4a and Force Enable V4A, Enable equalizer and try setting it to FLAT first, No surround setting checked, Enable Viper Bass to 6.0DB and Enable Viper Clarity to 6.0DB or 9.0DB and NO Auditory system protection. Do that for headphone and bluetooth.
Again go under Advanced in sound settings in your settings and make sure Safe Headset Volume is off as well... If it was louder before that is odd... Like I said. Make sure its newest version and if it is you could try another one or uninstall driver in the app restart then reinstall driver in app then restart... Pain in the butt but whatever it takes. Theres a thread in Nexus 6 for few diff V4A versions with beats audio etc under development also.

you dont need to wipe your rom... i simply stated the dalvik cache,,, you dont really need to do that either tho... Open viper4android app and hit settings dropdown and uninstall driver.... then restart phone... then open it and install driver.... then restart phone and set it up as i said in previous post for bluetooth and headphone and let me know if any change...

I did, no change in audio. I was talking about starting from scratch wondering if I flashed a wrong zip? I'm not sure if there was a specific one to install or not really.

Ok... Essentially if you have AudioFX or any of those equalizer built in rom... disable all the settings and clear the data and force stop it...

Download that from these forums which is like a Sony Beats vamped versionb of V4A and has its own section for bluetooth headphones also... Install in TWRP and when it installs click Clear Dalvik Cache and Cache... It wont mess up your Rom but you will have to wait few min on bootup as it recompiles everything...Then when it opens make sure it asks if you want to install the V4A audio Driver! Click YES!!! Make sure driver installed and it might look like it froze for a min while it does it and then itll say you should restart... Then you restart and set everything up!
Its vital your disable any other equalizer built into rom like AudioFX etc and clear data for those apps and all that before you flash this in TWRP. Let me know how that goes I should still be on.

I flashed ViPERAtmos_4.8_eXtremeBeats_Aural_Maximizer_Edition

Uninstall previous Viper4Android and remove folder from /data first also!!!!Almost forgot!
This is a different one... try these steps I just gave you and it should work otherwise you may need to try a diff rom because maybe its conflicting with Viper somehow but Viper must be removed fully with Data wiped in settings in Apps section then use root file manager and rid of the Viper4android folder in /data then do everything I said with that version of viper... that is your best shot buddy.

It's a bit of work but dont forget the wiping of DALVIK cache after reinstall once you clear viper4android and erase the folder in root /data folder. If I was there Id do it for you as its a bit of work and might not show great benefit but I read up on that version and its got good reviews and worked for everyone so... Its the best shot youve got but follow all my instructions to the tee.

Maybe I am on android 9.0 that's why this happen

I would also advise against this mod. Although I have used ARISE in my previous phones, it crashes on ZMPM1. SElinux is set to permissive and all other audio mods were uninstalled. Still it crashed and rebooted to recovery everytime.
Since it overwrites many system files, it has also probably interfered with apps some of which become unresponsive. I will have to flash TWRP V327 again since it is almost impossible to isolate the issues.

V4A (Magisk Module) worked for me without touching the se policy or installing busy box. However, after trying out this mod and subsequently deleting it I find V4A asking for busy box installation and then driver installation error. I will try afresh after flashing v327 through TWRP again

Thanks. Can't systemless busybox + init.d injector work? You can try perhaps for v4a to get working.
This audio mod and ainur sauron change the system partition hence i thought it would be better to ask someone who already got it working.

Tried it but something is breaking driver installation. I neither have the expertise nor the the patience to check cfg files in audio policy or elsewhere. Too many system overwrites. Flashing stock seems to be the way to go.
Another curious development which may or may not be related -
1) Safety Net check now fails.
2) Making a TWRP backup of the installed ROM fails at System Image.

Uh oh. Better to stay away from this mod then.

I've been using viper4android xHiFi, it works perfectly and the audio quality is exactly the way I want it to be.

I've done accordingly and i am bit confused here, as Disable AM3D via phone settings but that's the only app I have in the phone after disabling it i don't have any other way to control the music. how am i suppose to control the music?

You dont need an app.... Because
Arise modifies the system files...its not an effect that applies on top of streaming music...
Also, Arise has different music profiles/presents....you can try them also(avaliable in the same aroma installation)
..Feel the difference..

Trying to install Viper4Android, driver install fails (via magisk)

I've tried installing the driver multiple times and can't seem to make it work at all. The only method I've not been able to accomplish is renaming audio_effects.conf to audio_effects.conf.bak as has been recommended for other phones. For some reason, this file will not rename.
it would seem the file is set to be unwritable (I'm not familiar with linux permissions like this, so maybe that can be fixed somehow?). At the very least, Solid Explorer isn't able to do the job, and can't change the rw perms either, as the operation just fails. (I have got selinuxmodechanger changed to permissive and after reboot, but no change here either)
Any other ideas?

I'm using it it works perfect but you have to use the new version not the older one

I saw that, didn't really know what it did. I'll check it out.

Nothing in JamesDSP is doing anything for me on Speakers, Headphones, or Bluetooth. I think that this may beacause of my failed install of V4A rootless (might work if I had the APK?). Any ideas if this is the problem? If It is, do you know how I might uninstall V4A?

I prefer older V4A versions, having tried above.

1. Ensure on latest BusyBox.
2. Install latest V4A from Magisk & download driver, device will auto-restart.
3. Uninstall this latest V4A (don't delete data or cache).

5. From Magisk, install Audio Modification Library (choose relevant options). Restart device.
6. Additionally, Magisk install Audio Compatibility Patch. Restart device.
7. Ensure V4A settings FX compatible mode option = Normal.
(Don't optmise V4A in battery settings).
Noticeable improvement in speaker volume (I don't play over BT or headphones, so cannot comment).

I uninstalled everythingg I had installed up to that point (everything I could at least), and followed the instructions step by step. Still getting abnormal in the V4A app (at least the app looks cooler now : P). I really don't know what is going on at this point. I might just reset the whole phone and follow your instructions again. I will report back when I get around to that.

Ok, I decided to play around a little before trying a reset; and I installed Viper 4 Android legacy with the APK from the zip you gave me, and it now says audio format supported! Yay! It just says "Processing: no" now. I have a feeling that I have something setup wrong. Any ideas?

You managed to install driver v.2.5.0.5 or latest v4a?
Processing should change to "Yes" whilst audio is playing (music player/ YouTube/ system sounds etc).
Streaming music can be hit & miss; set up Audio Compatibility Patch correctly (via Magisk).

I installed driver version 2.5.0.4 with the APK you pointed me towards in the .zip/viperfx/app folder.
I will reinstall the audio conpatibily patch. What options should I choose in the patch?
Edit: I did not install the driver *with* the APK, but alongside it. I installed the driver via ViperFX Legacy in Magisk.

Try the ACP if V4A not working for streaming music apps.
I selected following:
- Skip audio_policy patching? = NO
- Skip notification_helper remover? = YES
- Skip usb policy patching for usb dacs? = NO
- Use lib workaround? = NO

That's fine, as long as V4A driver is enabled/ status normal/ format supported/ and it is processing during audio play.

It still isn't processing audio : (. I have tried resetting and following your instructions again. The only way I am able to get it to stop displaying "Status: Abnormal" is by installing Viper4Android FX Legacy in the new driver mode with the user app, then installing the Audio Modification and compatibility patch, then restarting and installing the APK you gave me. Even with all that, it will not recognize audio being played (it displays "Processing: No" when audio is very clearly playing and I have effects enabled). I am now considering switching to LineageOS (I would be there already if it wasn't for the fingerprint sensor driver being broken).
Edit: Do you think switching kernels would change anything?
Edit 2: I noticed a toast notification from V4A on startup saying "A running program has requested Android to disable audio effects, so V4A will be temporarily disabled."
I am thinking that maybe the stock Dirac audio processing might be interfering with V4A somehow. Is there anyway to get Viper to ignore requests to disable?

Well, Lineage didn't fix anything (No matter what I did, V4A would not stop displaying abnormal). Took me a little while to get back to stock, but the latest version of V4A is working, but only for the first 30 seconds after reboot before giving me the previously mentioned toast notification. I have removed all apps that are even remotely audio processing related, but still have this problem. Anybody else had something similar? If you did, how did you fix it?

Edit: Holy shiz it's working! I used the method described in my previous post, but with the added step of uninstalling and reinstalling audio modification library after the last reboot. Again thank you all for your help! And I really hope this helps someone!

I had no success on getting that SE Linux to turn Permissive unfortunately
long story short , I found myself here
can you please give me a step by step on how you got V4A to work , that is off course if its still working for you man

That version has worked flawlessly for me for Android 10 and 11.

VIPER4ANDROID FX INSTALLATION_[ANDROID_10/11]_{Everything Works Flawlessly}_

All features are working. If you follow the process as described, viper4android works fine on YouTube and all platforms. Moreover, it eliminates the problem of voice reduction when forwarding videos.

Before you start installing the Sound Mode, install the SELINUX PERMİSSİVE file with MAGİSK and restart the device.
FOLLOW THE PROCEDURES IN THE ORDER

2a. Install the Audio Modification Library file with Magisk.

Unfortunately viper doesn't work properly without selinux permissive.
You can try different sound modes. however, problems occurred when I tried it on pe +. Also I don't think an extra sound mod will be needed after making good adjustments with the viper.

Somehow v4a works fine with selinux enforcing on my xz premium, less headache for me

I am here to post my method for anyone who is interested. I have tested this myself and helped others to do this.
Issues:
There are issues with the SElinux manager installation and setting SElinux to permissive in my experience. There are alternatives and modules that can be trusted. I have provided links that I have tested and the best module that sets SElinux is the SElinux permissive module. There are SElinux manager modules, but they don't consistently work or install. Like V1.0 doesn't work, try V1.0.5 or vice versa.

Unfortunately, I have not found any method that installs Dolby atmos with SElinux Enforcing and all mods from reiryuki don't work on 6T (OOS 10.3.8). You can try yourself, but backup beforehand as it causes bootloop.
Any other method I found re-uses repey6 and installs it wrong (without setting SElinux)
The alternative module I have found is Viper4Android and can be installed with SElinux Enforcing
New:
Dolby Digital Plus now has released a new version that works with SElinux Enforcing.
Viper4Android is outdated sadly. But There' Viper4Android RePackaged
Methods:
The method works on OOS work on Custom ROMs as well
Download the files required from the links provided and choose Dolby or Viper
Install dual speaker mod and reboot
The OP6 will have many versions that don't install after rebooting so repeat this step until you've installed a version successfully V10 works in my experience. For the Oneplus 6T V3 works.
3. Test it to see if it works and check if it has installed in magisk modules
Dolby Digital Plus Method:
OLD:
Install Dolby digital plus and reboot.
Test it to see if it works and check if it has installed in magisk modules
Install SELinux permissive to set SELinux to permissive and reboot. You need to set SELinux to permissive to make the Dolby mod work properly.
Go into magisk modules to check if SELinux permissive module is installed. If it wasn't installed try another module like SElinux manager 1.0 or 1.0.5 if one of them didn't work, try 1.0 vice versa or the SElinux changer APK. Reboot and check in magisk modules again.
Install audio modification library, reboot, and done.
NEW:
Install Dolby digital plus and reboot.
Test it to see if it works and check if it has installed in magisk modules
Install audio modification library, reboot, and done.
Fix for Dolby:
The next issue is with Dolby digital plus. If the speakers sound quieter than normal and the app stopped working...
Go into settings, app settings, find Dolby app.
Go into permissions. Turn storage on and off.
Try it again and the issue should be fixed.

Viper4Android Method:
OLD:
With the old V4A module
Once you got dual speaker mod installed
Install Audio Modification Library, reboot and disable it
Install the viper4Android module.
If a new version of viper4Android module is available, install that
Reboot.
Open the app and grant root
Install drivers in the app and it will reboot automatically
If u want to have DDC, kernel and preset files look at the DDC, kernel and preset files manual method below
NEW:
With the new V4A Repackaged module
Once you got dual speaker mod installed
Install Audio Modification Library, reboot and disable it
Download and extract the guide setup or the other .zip file attached below on your device
Install the viper4Android Repackaged module.
Reboot
Open the app and grant root
DISCLAIMER: On custom ROMs or certain devices, the drivers are installed, but NOT working properly after reboot. Just continue the method and comment if there are issues once u have finished the method.
DDC, kernel and preset files manual method
Download and extract all the V4A files or just the file for this guide setup I attached below. You need the DDC, Kernel and Preset folders. Copy all the folders!
In Internal Storage: Copy and paste the folders into (Android -> data -> com.pittvandewitt.viperfx -> files), this would replace each folder.
Now go into magisk manager, go into modules and enable AML. Reboot
Now make sure V4A driver is running (read Notes) and go into convolver -> impulse response. Choose any kernel, and done. OR choose the preset for that and done. If you have issues, make sure legacy mode is on in settings but it is on by default.
Choose at your heart's desire if you downloaded all the V4A kernels.
I personally use Dolby Digital Plus - Centre kernel
Done, also post the settings or kernels and your thoughts.
I also attached a screenshot of my configuration
Note: Viper4Android sometimes doesn't turn on properly. So, play music and open the app to check the driver. The Driver status if it's working (NEON enable: yes, Enabled: yes, Status: Normal) and turn on the master limiter to see if there's an effect. This should give you an indication if V4A is working or not
I have attached DDC files below and you do the same thing with kernel files, but they are used for headphones.
You can try and add the preset (profiles). BUT U SHOULD HAVE ALL THE DDC AND KERNEL FILES FOR THE PRESETS TO WORK PROPERLY
Choose the specific presets u want
Transfer them into Android -> data -> com.pittvandewitt.viperfx -> files -> presets
Transfer the V4A.zip in internal storage
Reflash the V4A.zip again and reboot
Install the V4A driver again and reboot
V4A driver should be working, check the presets and it should be there
Enjoy having your presets
Fix for V4A:
There has been noted issues during the installation with V4A. If you experienced a bootloop after installing V4A in magisk...
Boot into TWRP, -> advanced -> file manager -> data/abd/magisk/modules and delete the V4A folder.
Reboot to system, install the module in magisk again and reboot. It should install.
Another issue was that V4A driver is installed properly, but there are no enhancements to the sound. To fix this, go into settings and turn on legacy mode. This should make the effect stay on, even though this should be on anyways.
New Update V4A
Also, for new users if u connect your earphones like via headphone jack, USB-C or Bluetooth. You can tweak those as well than just your SPEAKERS! BUT some earphones can be damaged as well, so tweak at your own risk.
After much tweaking myself. I think I have made my speakers much better and achieved almost stereo speakers for my 6T.
I have attached a screenshot to the thread at the bottom. I have attached a screenshot for my headphones too!
I have added the individual settings as well. If u want to tweak them just press the text and it should expand.
The toggles I have on are for my speakers:
Master Limiter
Playback gain Control: Strength: 2, Maximum gain: 3X, Output threshold: -1.9dB
Convolver: Dolby Digital Plus - Centre, Cross Channel 100%
Speaker optimization
I have also tweaked my Bluetooth earphones as well with a DDC and the screenshot is attached below. I recommend Dolby headphone Live, but that's up to you.
U can add files in the DDC folders in the Android folder, but reboot and then tweak to see the difference. U CAN RISK DAMAGING IF U TWEAK TOO MUCH
You have completed the guide and can now experience dual/stereo-like speakers on your OP6/6T.

Update Log:
5/06/2021 - I have attached the presets which I use for my speakers and earphones.
If u have already installed V4A without the presets follow this new method.
Download the .zip file of my attached presets or all the presets
Choose the specific presets u want

2/11/2022 - Updated XDA thread as new Viper4Android Repackaged was found and supports Android 13
3/2/23 - Updated the method Viper4Android method as repackaged installs the DDC, Kernel and preset files during installation.
So, u can just download and extract the compressed .zip file into internal storage and V4A will install the files for you during installation.

I got this install failed during viper4android module installation. after reboot, it asked me to update and install the module, but after that i still don't see the app to grant permission. I'm using crDroid on a Samsung a22. audiofx is disabled

Well your device is a Samsung which may act differently to the Viper4Android installation. This guide is for OnePlus 6/6t. The app should still work, but not sure for your device

I have installed the latest build 9.16, but it seems DASH charge and face unlock is not available, does anyone knows what's going on???

Love the presets! Mainly use the viper-DDC stuff I have had DDP &V4A installed for quite some time on a HD1925 OnePLus 7tpro McLaren with LOS17.1,
I am also going to try the Dolby fix, normally when I am using an app like tiktok or something like that & get a phone call it kills DDP 7.3 and I normally have just been rebooting. If the fix works ill create a tasker profile to automatically reset it!

I wouldn't recommend using the dolby and I have said why. "Setting SElinux can have security issues noted by @topjohnwu, so install this mod at your own risk." Here's an article: https://www.techrepublic.com/article/why-its-time-to-stop-setting-selinux-to-permissive-or-disabled/
In the long term, V4A is the better choice especially when SElinux doesn't really affect it and it works on SElinux Enforcing. Dolby kinda works on SElinux Enforcing but enjoy dealing with multiple crashes

Not sure why but I have never had to set Selinux to permissive but Dolby still works, thank you for the warning though, I would not have used if I had to
I do not deal with multiple crashes in fact, just when using tiktok and get a call I need to turn V4A off and on & Dolby I have to apply the above fix which I have set a Tasker autoinput profile now to do both automatically

Everything is okay with v4a but Second speaker turns off at max volume. Probably i should decrease default speaker gain(

Which device do u have? The 6T works flawlessly not sure for the OP6. Tbh I have attached profiles in the guide_setup .zip file and the profiles in there work fine

Followed this guide for my OP6 running LOS 19.1. I used v10 stereo mod with latest Dolby Digital Plus and AML modules. It works but it's not true stereo. When playing a stereo content, left channel is coming to both earpiece + loudspeaker and right channel is coming to ear piece alone. Tested using stereo test videos on YouTube. Is there anything I'm missing here? Probably due to LOS or Android 12. Left channel output seems to be a problem.

Ofc it's not true stereo as the manufacturer will have to do that. But it's "stereo like" so u have 2 speakers instead of one like newer phones that have stereo speakers. But it's better than not having it
