So , as we all know 14.3 looses root a lot, and 14.4 was released on the pixel 2 threads, see here https://forum.xda-developers.com/pixel-2-xl/development/2017-11-6-root-pixel-2-xl-t3701176/
I flashed the zip, on my n950n running renovate , and it all seems to work fine, haven't lost root in 3 days which is diff than prior behavior.
My question is, is there any consequences for running something intended for the pixel 2?
Pic for proof
Curious if you are using Magisk hide.
I never lost root on 14.3 unless I enabled that.
You are losing root on 14.3 if you don't put in settings update channel as beta. It will try to override beta 14.3 with stable 14.0.

Yeah, 14.3 is latest beta for us. That's what mine shows as well. Not sure what 14.4 changes exactly. Maybe some others who have flashed it can speak up.
@masri1987, thanks for commenting further :highfive:. Maybe some others will help chime in after flashing.

np, the reason i went about this is because i flashed ironrom beta 2 and he had 14.4 as an option in aroma. so i just figured i DL the zip and use that.
Can't say i've noticed a diff in battery or function, i haven't lost root and rebooted a few times already
Hopefully someone else more technically inclined can give us a clue lol

Figured as much. On a little side note. How's Iron Rom running for you? Any negatives? I'm thinking of flashing that as my next rom. Some members reported more battery drain and went back to his Batman Rom. Thanks :good:.

I actually jumped off of iron rom, it freaked out on me, wouldn't let me turn on the display more than 2 seconds. So , i'll get back to it when it's in a stable state.
I'm on renovate for the most part.

I give this a hearty second. Infinity is every bit as stable and offers vastly more customization. Further it doesn't charge you to set your bix button unlike Reno and others who are trying to monetize their roms. Bonus... you get Atmos, Viper, and Beats cooked in and they all work flawlessly.
You will not go back to Reno any time soon after installing Infinity.

I had no idea renovate has monetization wtf.
How's battery life with infinity. Why isn't it on xda
I'm not sure why it isn't here, battery life is similar to other roms for me, none of them stand out in my use although they are all better than stock. This I think is because I never bothered debloating before I got root but have ever since. Renovate isn't horrible in terms of gimped features but you have to get the uprated pay RICE in order to change the buttons. It's a good rom and I'm not knocking it but it is no more stable and greatly underfeatured compared to Infinity so what you end up with is a rom which isn't objectively better in any way but is objectively worse or lacking in some ways. Right now we have the stockish roms and a couple that are going the Pixel route. People are going to prefer one of those takes over the other but the Pixel stuff is still a bit under cooked at the moment, no insult to those guys, it's harder to do and takes some time to sort out. Realistically Infinity is in the rare position of being a step ahead of everything else at the moment. None of the stockish roms work better or offer more and the Pixel stuff is still in the sorting stage. Like I said, most installers wont be feeling the need to go back to renovate until something changes.

It's been a fun run guys-- with bootloader v5 it looks like flashing these files back and forth is potentially going to cause issues and soft bricks.
I no longer have the phone so for now it's coming down.
Love and kisses, I supported and hosted these files for you guys from. Nov 17, 2016 to Feb 21, 2018 and with the boot loader change and me no longer owning the phone it's time to sail into the sunlight.

I think this is assumed, but once the U version is flashed the upgrade path for device software should follow Samsung's releases and not the carrier specific releases, correct? No more waiting for the carrier to delay release adding their own software and removing features down the line?

This version is non-branded and works with this rom, I didn't include the Prince version as there is no reason in this workflow for a modded/tagged non-official version of anything. If anybody has any issues in a specific use case I will add a secondary option. They should not though as the rom is sha signed appropriately. I don't want to get too far off topic but if Odin fails it's usually because the sha isn't passing what Odin is looking for. I'm not seeking to provide anything other than a vanilla supported flow to make it clean and clear. I posted this thread elsewhere and it's already had adopters testing without issue.

Exactly. And the ones thinking they NEED IT NOW aren't reading all the things. Samsung Nougat still has all sorts of animation and interface glitches. It's a beta with plenty of things left unshined and I'm not about to post that here and have a million 'X isn't as wide as X and when i hit X it doesn't Y'
The good news is in the Goodlock comment section Samsung is saying they won't support Goodlock Nougat until the Galaxy S8 which leaves me with a smile. The point of Goodlock is to be more stock like and since they will officially support Nougat with the S8 then we'll likely see all the stock Nougat layout that Goodlock tries to mimic. Now that Nougat is basically setup like Goodlock with a quick toggle row i see no reason for them to mutate it. So Goodlock should be the bees knees. (hopes and dreams, with a reasonable basis) ; p

Fair enough, I'll find the latest Prince and put it up. It never surprises me how the same hardware has variance in results.
Everything installed, but I also had to use the Prince Odin.
I haven't had the chance to do much with it yet other than basic setup and app downloads but everything looks to be working really well.

All good, i don't want this thread to be filled with these types of things. Stay on topic please.
That said- there are things i know as fact are unfinished in the beta and the end of life on that beta is not going to work for all parties. When they stop updating it there will be yet another factory reset in line for those users. This thread is obviously not a nougat thread, i posted this for people that want something stable that will be updated with non-beta code when it comes available. There is always something out there for people that want to run beta non final software on their phones. That is not what this thread is about.
1. Notifications are not full screen width, it may not bother you but there are bug reports already submitted for this. (I follow the beta)
2. The close all button on the quick switch is white which is just odd and unfinished.
3. For a good amount of people there are animation glitches. I mod a reddit thread filled with 200+ comments about all the pros/cons.
Lastly, I do NOT want this thread to have this kind of back and forth. It serves a purpose, i'm not hosting this on GDrive or Dropbox i'm incurring some cost to put this up for people and in return all i ask is stay on topic and if something else is working for you then good. Keep on keeping on.

Well
I have been using Nougat update for a while now and I haven't noticed any of the bugs/lags etc that some others claimed. Mine is actually faster and it has better battery life (SOT)
Is there anybody else that has no bugs on his Nougat update?
PS I have installed the Nougat update and after that I wiped everything
For me is running like a charm too. I don't think battery life is unbelievable though... But im pretty sure is the best phone i've ever had for that price anyway.

Has anyone noticed that it's much slower when switching apps using the hardware buttons vs the on screen buttons? When I have the hardware buttons enabled, and I click the recents button, there is noticeable lag opposed to when using the on screen buttons. The on screen buttons are instant.

Check to see if you have double tap recents commands. its the same thing as for fingerprint double tap commands. these are causing a bit of lag due to the delay for the 2nd tap command

Battery has been far worse for me, likely going to do a full wipe to see if that helps. Wiping cache did nothing.

No, people don't know how to read. If rooting and manually updating is to hard, they probably don't really have a reason to do it because they probably can't take advantage of the benefits

LOL no. Apps (even from google or the OEM) misbehave at times, or the installation can get messed up with updates. That's why it's always recommended to clean flash after a major OTA if there are problems or bugs. No need to be condescending just because you don't have problems (yet).
Something I noticed: When I dirty flashed 4 on top of 3.5.4 I ended up with a configuration using the power save governor and my phone was laggy. Installing fresh I got the Interactive governor and the phone was smooooth.
Make sure you're running the Interactive governer at least.
In fact, I'll reflash Nougat later and confirm this, might be worth a post.
Oh, I also still get the Mobile Radio Active bug in Nougat. I returned to Marshmallow as I have xposed and can work around it with automation.

I am completely with u. With IR blaster in xuefer i wouldn't have changed to the Ashwins lineage, which is good too, and he did a respectfull super job, but battery is weaker, drains faster. However, i don't know what safety violation on GPL was meant to be....... In xuefers. Nevertheless i am the only Person with headphone Jack problems in lineage. I would go back to xuefers, if ir-Blaster is fixed. If battery in Ashwins gets better, and no headphone jack probs i would stay with Ashwins, cause of ir-Blaster, which has great function.

Anyone wish to increase battery life, sure check out root booster by Dominik on playstore. I have seen a huge improvement and I am using extreme mode battery boost. I am currently on lineage is by Ashwin(12/03). Using for last couple of hours.
Avg battery use: 1.9%/ hr
Sot: 3.6 %/ hr
Further I am using Greenify aggressive doze and few kernel tweaks.

other than the battery life, is there any other plus side in switching to xuefer's version?
and what are the other issues in xuefer's rom?
am currently on ashwins. just waiting to have some free time to flash xuefer's rom, out of curiosity.
I'm actually looking for a rom that I will use for long term. I just don't have the time to keep on flashing roms. Will find out that's stable and use it for months
xuefers sleeps like a baby because his ROM uses "these apps" - Brevent.
Brevents is kinda similar thing to Greenify....
I use Greenify on Ashwins 12/03 build and it sleeps like a happy baby!

Yes but you shouldn’t have to use all these apps Xuefers like i say sleeps like a baby.

Download Package Disabler Pro + (Samsung). I think it was $1.99, but it's worth having. Once installed, search "Update" and check the second Software Update from the list.

Yeah that's pretty much the only way to get rid of it for good. Mine is now to the point where it's no longer giving me the option to select "Later." Lol. I just hit the back button and it goes away, then I set it to ignore for 2 hours in notification panel. Why the heck is that the only option Google?!
I should've held off updating since I'm not sure if the night / low light shots being yellow/warm is from the update.

I got it official, I am registered as a pilot tester and I get early updates, official updates.
At the moment it is uploading, 4.5gb so please bare with me. I'll share once ready.
Been using it the last 4 hours, it is really great so far. In about 2 hours I'll use games and see again how it will be. But generally speaking, way better than MIUI13 13.6 global.

How did you update manually?
I am new with this equipment and it has been 2 years since I flashed cell phones. Mine is also Chinese with global ROM
What is the correct way to install it? Wait OTA or how?
OTA , local update file.
To do this go to the update window, and keep pressing on miui logo for about 5 to 10 times. You'll get a message saying additional features added. Then press the 3 dots and choose (choose update package). Should start updating immediately after you go to the ota file downloaded to your device.
If you get any errors for any reason, relocate the file to the following directory ( download - downloaded_rom) and put your file there.

security? you have to check it, complete overhall (not much with UI) but look at the imporvements, you can have memory extension up to 7GB now instead of 3. and some really nice settings, waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay smoother than before. + security update.
Can you extract boot.img for root?

sorry, cant help with these things, not familiar with it.
Worked like a charm, thanks for that!
Menu animations seem a bit awkward (Kind of... Brutal?)
But otherwise, so far, so good

at first, i thought the same, but after a day of using it, way better and faster than before.
Some stuff have been fixed.
For instance when you changed the DPI in MIUI 13, a reboot would reset it (which frankly is a pain...)
Now on MIUI 14 it sticks after reboot
Dark mode seems a bit better implemented as well.
I agree that everything feels slightly snappier (But it was already too notch anyway)
Was considering upgrading to the 13 Ultra or Honor Magic 5 Pro but I am less eager now...

Same here, was about to upgrade, not anymore. I don't think there is any faster phone available

The latest snapdragons are faster, but unless you're gaming it's doubtful you'll feel it in everyday usage.
Battery life likely a bit better and that you would see it.
What I care the most about is the camera. I have a feeling that it's been significantly improved since the phone was released (No idea id MIUI 14 improves it further, too early to tell). Unfortunately DXO doesn't retest later during the phone life so it's hard to tell if the newest phone are actually over performing significantly in that department (Sensors haven't improved much and the software seem to be what makes most of the difference)
