I've never faced this problem but i can't find how to change my phone name !
In parameters, system, about phone i don't see anything else than Model.
Do you please have a solution ?
build.prop? Because i dont really know what you mean. Bluetooth name? then in Bluetooth settings.
Yeh thank you, i have changed Bluetooth name.
I don't know if it's equivalent to te setting i was looking for.
When you first setup your mobile, at one moment your are asked for a name and this name appears sometime, using different applications.
This name parameter is usally accessible in "parameters, about phone, phone name".
But Android 8.0 doesn't show this parameter, that was my trouble.

Hello fellows,
I was reading once on this same forum about a hidden plugin or cab software, which can send an anonymous txt message to a specified phone number in-case of theft.
e.g: if someone's pda has been stolen and that software was already installed on that PDA, then once the thief will put any workable sim then the PDA will automatically & anonymous send the thief's location or phone number to an already specified phone number.
Any ideas??

Carty wrote an app that would do this.
I wrote one, VJAccioPhone, but didn't release it. It will send thief's phone number, and location if you've got an embedded GPS, although few phones do. It'll also do other stuff. It's not being released until I figure out one or two more WM5 specific things I want to implement. No specific date in mind.
There's also IIWPO. Check the wiki.

So is there any way to try Carty's application, where can I find that?
I am very sure that I have read a review exactly about this situation.
Sidd
The app in this link might be what you're after.

Can you help me to change the Operator Name on O2 Atom?
i have kjam but i think atom also has same registry settings isnt it?how can i help you?
What exactly do you see in the once in HKLM\Software\Microsoft\RIL. All I see is a Value called APIInfo. Do you have a value called OperatorNames? And is it a Key you edited to change the operator names?
Hi there,
What Im able to see is this..HKLM\Software\Microsoft after that there is no folder called RIL... thats where Im getting lost.... please provide a solution
This trickly is actually in our wiki:
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=WM5_Tweaks_Other
(Search for "Customize")
If the key does not exist, just create it yourself.
Tried following the wiki but maybe i'm missing something. I didn't see the OperatorNames value so I added it. I then added a DWORD named "Test" equal to 31026 - one of the many T-Mobile codes. Now maybe I need to try all of different codes until one works, or maybe I added an entry wrong.
No, the 31026 is the name, and value is Test (i.e. that is a string type, not DWORD)
Check this thread:

You mean you insert in HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\RIL\Operator Names] new string 40492"="XXXXX" and it changes the Operator name into XXXXX ? Pls confirm.
Has anyone discovered a way to get WM6 Pro to recognize phone numbers in calendar entries, and make them clickable links? It seems that the smartphone version has the functionality, but the Pro/PocketPC version does not. Pretty lame, if you ask me.
Anyone think it's possible to create a cab/utility that enables it?
You can enter tel:123-456-7898 in the notes area and it will create a link similar to smartphone.
Still looking for something like this for the location line in the calendar.

I tried this and it doesn't seem to want to call. Any tips? It sounds so simple it is hard to see how I could have mucked it up...
I have had to enter a space or a hard return after the telephone number to get the link to work.
I desperately need this too!
Is there a utility/hack out there that will do this? As the original poster said, this is available on Smartphones! I can't believe MSFT didn't implement this!
While I'm at it, how about a feature that can detect Access or Pass codes for teleconferences? In other words, if the number appears as 1-866-000-0000 PC:12345 it should automatically dial 1866000000,,12345#
This is basic stuff that this OS should have... What a downer.
If you type in 'tel:' directly before number you should see the link, eg. tel:123765887
Does anyone know how to change the bluetooth name of the phone without installing a different ROM?
Im using kaiser tweak at the moment but it doesnt have an option to rename bluetooth...
Thanks!
start, settings, system tab, about, device ID tab. Looks like there are some other options for you. It's a real shame that you wasted your time waiting on someone to reply to your question. If you would have searched the words "change bluetooth name" you would have found.

Sorry .... it's not the phone the withholds the CLI but the network (I use to be a databuild engineer) so this is impossible on the phone side.
The HLR profile CAN be set to override and demand the numbers sent to the phone ... SOCLIP need to be set to 1 I think... or was it SOCLIR on a E/// HLR, but the user won't be able to set it.....
I have mine set and caught a few bogus callers out who phone me at 3am.
i'm sorry, but this sounds interesting, and unfortunately i don't understand what you mean. care to explain in slightly less technical terms?
If you work for the mobile phone company that your phones on you can set a parameter on the Home Location Register (HLR) computer that holds your profile that will 'force' the network to send the number (CLI) to your phone even if it's 'withheld'.
The general public won't be able to do this on their mobile ... ever. sorry.
