Hey all,
I was messing around with my memopad ME176CX and I inadvertently unlocked the bootloader and erased the entire android OS on it. Now every time I turn it on it goes to a black screen with "NORMAL BOOT" in green letters.
I want to install LineageOS 14.1 on it, and I have the zip file (I renamed it lineage.zip) on an sdcard. I went to this page: wiki.lineageos.org/devices/bacon/install#installing-lineageos-from-recovery and tried to follow the instructions there, but I got kind of lost and the commands I tried to use with my command prompt on my PC (using windows 8) don't seem to work. Now I can't even get windows to recognize the tablet when I hook it up to my PC via a USB connector cable. When I type in "fastboot devices" in the command prompt it recognizes it there, though. Can someone please explain, in simple terms, how to install lineage on the tablet even though I unlocked bootloader and erased the android OS that was on it? I don't know how to flash, and have never done it before.

Okay, good news: "NORMAL BOOT" is displayed in the Fastboot menu, which means your tablet isn't completely messed up. I assume you made a mistake when attempting to unlock the bootloader, because otherwise the tablet should still boot properly. Not a big deal though, in almost all cases it's possible to restore the system on this tablet.
Now, assuming you want to install LineageOS 14.1, the first step would be to check if you have successfully unlocked the bootloader: When you power on the tablet, does it go directly to the Fastboot menu (with "NORMAL BOOT") or does it show an INTEL logo first? If the INTEL logo is not shown, you are still using the old bootloader. If that is the case, you can attempt to unlock it from Fastboot (if you see the INTEL logo, just skip this step):
Switch to the unpacked folder of the files downloaded from https://forum.xda-developers.com/memo-pad-7/general/asus-me176c-cx-unlock-bootloader-t3315603 and run:
Code:
fastboot flash ESP ESP.img
In the Fastboot menu, you can navigate with the volume buttons. Navigate to "Power off" and then press the Power button to select it. When you turn the tablet back on, you should see the INTEL logo now.
Now, go back to the Fastboot menu. If it no longer appears directly after boot, power off the tablet, and press Volume Down + Power. When it asks you whether you want to go to "Fastboot" or "Recovery" press Volume Up to go to the Fastboot menu.
Now you still need to flash the new recovery partition. Download the "Recommended TWRP recovery build" from the download section in https://forum.xda-developers.com/me...-unofficial-lineageos-14-1-asus-memo-t3633341. Switch to the folder where you have downloaded it, and run:
Code:
fastboot flash recovery twrp-recovery-3.1.1-20170918-UNOFFICIAL-me176c.img
When you have done that, you need to boot into recovery mode. It's good to remember this part since you will need it whenever you install an update for LineageOS. Just like before, power off the tablet and press Volume Down + Power. However, when it asks you whether you want to go to "Fastboot" and "Recovery" press Volume Down to go to the Recovery menu.
From there you can now flash the ROM. However, before I explain that further, let me know if you were able to follow up to this point. Feel free to ask if you have any questions!
Thank you very much for replying. The Intel logo does not show up - instead, it says "powered by android".
I'm sorry, I know this is a stupid question, but how do I go into the unpacked folder of the files? Do I type "cd (folder name)"? Or is there an "adb" command I need to type?
EDIT: ok, I did the "cd" thing and went into the folder with ESP.img, and I tried to flash it, and it said the send was ok, but when it tried to write it said "FAILED <remote: flash_cmds error!>"

Edit: Make sure you type the command exactly like I posted above. ESP must be upper case.
That's weird. Could you make a photo of the screen with "NORMAL BOOT"? Just to be sure we are actually talking about the same screen.

I can't, my camera's broken
But I just went and did the ESP thing again, and used upper case for ESP, and it worked!

Don't worry, I don't need the picture if everything is working fine. Let me know when you reach the recovery screen and/or need further help.
Hmm, I seem to have run into a problem here. My tablet is blinking on and off, and when it comes on, it just shows a blank screen. I got the Intel logo a couple times, and it showed that the battery was recharging (the battery is dead right now, and I have it hooked up to my PC via a cable). Should I wait for the battery to recharge?

If you actually see the battery logo, then hell, yes!. When I started working on LineageOS (before charging was working), I managed to drain the battery to zero, without a working system to charge the battery. Flashing the original system failed before it powered itself off because I was able to flash the new partitions. My tablet was broken for almost 3 weeks. I had to write a custom bootloader that replaces a partition as early as possible to fix it... Lesson learned: Make sure your battery is charged before you begin to flash something.
If it stays in the battery screen you can let it charge for a while, ideally with the ASUS A/C adapter so you don't wait for forever.
Thanks, I'll let it recharge then try to resume from there.

I drained the battery the same. If you pull off the back cover, disconnect the power from the tablet (push in connector from the battery, cant miss it), wait a couple seconds, push the connector back and connect usb from wall. If you time it just right you can get out of any complete drain AFAIK.

Correct, that's what I did. It would have worked, but my boot partition didn't support charging back then (it was a very early version of my LineageOS ROM), so I didn't even reach the battery screen. The tablet wasn't able to charge.
Hey, I seem to have run into a problem. I can't get into fastboot anymore, it just shows either the Intel screen, or the charging screen (it's up to 100% now). What am I doing wrong?

Make sure the USB cable is disconnected when you power on the tablet. You can still connect it when you see the Fastboot screen. Also make sure to start pressing Volume Down before you press the Power button.

A friend of mines son was installing roms on his HTC Hero and bootlooped it. I've followed all the methods I could find to put this thing in a flash mode, or a recovery mode but all it does is flash the HTC logo. Home/End seems to be the way to get into the recovery mode but it does nothing.
Can you put this thing into a flash only mode and at least get it to its original state? It is unknown as to what exactly he did to it. I was told that he had been installing lots of roms and eventually one made it do this.
I found this link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=682551&page=2 but pushing the volume up/end keys only makes it vibrate 3 times then sit idle not doing anything.
thanks.

The only way to effectively help you/him is to know how he got there, and what recovery/rom/kernel/theme/etc he is running. It would also help to know if this phone has an eng-spl fastboot or an s-off hboot.

Not really... in very rare cases has the hero been bricked.
If nothing else, you could always run the Sprint/HTC RUU through your computer, that will restore the Hero to "Out-of-Box" state. From there you could root back again and flash any ROM you would like.
With the phone turned off, press and hold the volume up button. Whole holding it press the power button. When you see the logo let go of the volume up button. If that doesn't work you'll have to run an ruu from fastboot or get a hercimg and flash it from fastboot.

how do I get into this fastboot mode? I'd love to restore it to factory software, but I'm unable to figure out how to get the phone into a mode that the PC will recognize. Volume up/end vibrates 3 times but never actually turns on or shows a logo. just stays black. If I could get this thing back to its original state that would be great.

Anyone know how to do this? I can't figure out how to get into the fastboot mode. I run the ruu executable, and it says it can't find the phone. I'm sure I need to put it in some kind of flash mode, but seem to be unable.
Not to hijack your thread, but I'm having this same problem. I've run several ROMs including cyanogen 6.0 and 6.1 and today was installing the cyanogen 7 with 2.3 android. I wiped everything and flashed the rom and the gapps and the phone went into constant reboot cycles. I could at that point, hold the power/home and get it back to the recovery menu. I had the Amon RA recovery and thought I would try the 3.0 clockwork, so I flashed that recovery image...rebooted without a problem. I tried wiping and reflashing, but still the constant reboot. So I took the advice on the wiki and flashed the DecaFuct-12222010-691.zip kernel. My phone rebooted and did not start the cycling, so I thought it was an improvement. However, 1/2 an hour later, it's still sitting at the HTC logo and the power/home does not reboot into recovery. Nor does trying to adb find any devices.
Apparently I haven't posted enough on these forums to be able to post to the dev thread. But I've done some base development work on the phone and have been using adb for over a year now. Any help on getting back to a working phone would be greatly appreciated!

First, power off and remove the battery. Make sure the USB is not plugged in
This is why you get 3 vibrations and no power on. If it does this again, remove the battery and start over
With the power off and the USB unplugged, hold Vol Up and press power on (End key)
It should then boot into fastboot. (a white page with green letters) At this time, plug the USB in (should change from Fastboot to Fastboot USB) and run the RUU .5 or .6 from your computer.
AT some point the RUU install will say waiting for bootloader. When this happens, you will already be in bootloader (Fastboot USB)
This should work to get you back to fully unrooted stock ROM. From there, reroot, install a custom recovery and rom.
Let me know if this works

here's what happens.
1. Remove battery
2. Replace battery
3. Press and hold volume up
4. While holding volume up, press and hold end key to turn unit on.
5. Unit vibrates 3 times and never powers on
This is without USB plugged in.
I asked the guy who owns the phone what he was doing, he said he had flashed ASOP Gingerbread or something and it never worked again.

Interesting. Mine only does the 3 vibrate thing when I have the USB plugged in and I am trying to enter Fastboot. I unplug the USB, remove the battery, replace the battery, hold vol up and press end. Bing, right into Fastboot.
Do you know if he has the ENG SPL/S-Off installed? If not, the issue may lay in that. Not for sure though.
Also, it may have to do with the way the phone was originally rooted, that has an affect on things as well. Some of the overclocked kernels have an affect on boot. Some Heros wont boot with the kernel set to over 691.
I have installed every build pf ASOP 2.3.2 GB that has been posted, now grated they each had there issues but none of them put me in a loop or froze the phone.
I would also suggest downloading android commander to your computer. Just Google android commander and you will find it. With this program you can boot to bootloader. If you are getting to the HTC screen then Android Commander should recognize the phone. It is a great program.

Try the android commander. It is a great program and it is GUI based.

I have read that a hard reset is activated by:
1. Turn off.
2. Hold vol up/vol down/power on
3. Select Recovery using vol buttons and press power button
4. After several minutes, screen with red triangle will appear
5. Hold volume up and press return for menu to make hard reset
All goes well til #4. Here I get blank screen showing "Google" and it never moves into the red triangle picture and just freezes. I have waited over 20 minutes for the boot into recovery menu and nothing happens.
Have I missed a step or is something wrong? If onboard recovery process is broke is there a way to fix it? I would like to have access to hard reset should something dire go wrong.

oh ok. if that hard reset not working, might be better off trying to remember what the password was. you didnt write it down anywhere?
actually theres a way to reset it, or erase all of your data, go into developement section and check out wugfresh root tool kit or the one from Sambra. it will likely require you to unlock but all data n everything will be erased back to how it was out the box. thats your only hope. if you were rooted already, there mightve been a chance. but i think you have to run one of those tool kits to root and unlock. then itll automatically wipe the tablet clean of any previous data.

So the issue is that the tablet is freezing once you click "recovery" from the bootloader menu?
If thats the case - it's a pretty common known issue.
1) Boot into the bootloader
2) Plug the device into a USB port on your computer
3) Click recovery
That should allow you to access the recovery menu.

Same here - anybody got any solutions/suggestions?
I had trouble getting into recovery earlier, so I installed CW Recovery via Fastboot,

Now it works, before it was just sitting on that Google screen.
Forgot Pin lock
If you set a pin lock on your tablet make sure you remember it!!!
Apparently google or asus can't do anything so you would have to send it back for a replacement tablet.
Google customer service told me they are aware that the hard reset does not work for nexus 7 tablet.
And they might not even fix the known problem.
Plug the device into the computer before you reset it, otherwise the hardware buttons won't work in the bootloader.

Maybe if you unlock and root the tablet, that might work. But on a unrooted or locked tablet the hard reset does not work at all. Gets stuck at the google logo. Pluging it to the computer or without it won't work. Kinda silly isn't it?

You need to have bootloader driver installed. It comes with the SDK - after booting into bootloader, plug the tablet in, wait for Windows to try installing default drivers, then select to find driver manually and navigate to <sdk>\extras\google\usb_driver. After the driver is successfully installed, keys start working again and the tablet boots into recovery successfully.

Hi willter12,
Can you fix this issue?
I had the same problem, however, my N7 was rooted before. I recognized that my N7 CWR had been removed when rooted (another guy did it).
So, I installed the Toolkit from this and un-lock boot loader, flash back CWR, everyting was very OK to restore to stock. :victory:
Goodluck.
Is the One Mini 2 possible to root? I've seen a lot saying 'not yet', but it's all fairly old. If so, is there a tutorial/walkthrough somewhere?

yes root its possible for htc one mini 2.
1- use htc dev website to unlock bootloader and choose all other supported phones. Follow directions.
2-Flash recovery TWRP and flash superuser.zip.
Google it or find in forum tutorials for 2nd step.
I've tried searching, but all I can find is either out of date and stating there's no solution yet, or applies to the original Mini, not the Mini 2.

I got that, it's the "flash TWRP and superuser.zip" that's the issue.

1- Download the TWRP Recovery file here and copy it to the C:/Unlock folder created in the Bootloader Unlock Tutorial or the folder you use for HTC unlock
2- Now use the Shortcut “Windowskey + R” and type cmd into the textfield. Press OK to start the Shell.cmd
3- Now we need to navigate to our Unlock Folder by using the command “cd c:/Unlock“ (without “”) and pressing enter
4- Power off your HTC One Mini and boot it back up while holding the Volume Down and Power-Key until you see the bootloader
5- Select “Fastboot” with the volume keys and press power to select
6- Connect your HTC One Mini through original usb to your pc
7- In the Command-Window enter the command „fastboot flash recovery "twrp-2.7.1.0-20140802-memul.img“ (without „“) and press enter
8- The Installation should only take a few seconds and will give a short reports at the end
9- Your HTC One Mini should now have the TWRP Custom Recovery installed
TWRP will try flash SuperUser, it didnt work for me so,
Send UPDATE-SuperSU-v2.02.zip to sdcard and use TWRP to flash it
You must have updated drivers (install htc sync) and original usb cable.

I got TWRP in. None of the buttons worked. Eventually the screen went blank, I powered back on and just got a 'swipe to unlock' screen. Couldn't swipe, either. So...somehow the touchscreen isn't working?

Try and reboot the phone by holding volume down and power for 10 seconds.
That doesn't do anything. Seems like the only button that does anything is power, and that just turns the screen on if it's off, or to full brightness if it's dimmed (which it does for a second or two before turning off).
I've kept the screen on and managed to run the battery down to 52%. My plan at this point is to run it completely flat, forcing the phone to shut down, then charge it up a bit and see if I can boot. Beyond that, I'm out of ideas and even if I manage to reboot I don't see how TWRP's going to magically start working.
It boots into Android by default, right? And you have to use the Fastboot menu to get to TWRP? No idea how I got to it the first time, actually, and it's been years since I've used it on my old phone.
EDIT: It's TWRP v2.7.1.0. According to the website, the newest version, 2.8.0.0 "[fixes] a bug that caused weird graphics and touch issues". Should I be using this version instead? It doesn't seem to support the Mini 2.
Check this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2394744
Try holding power under a bright light..
turn screen off. and under bright light turn it back on. see if it works
No dice. Down to 15% battery at this point anyway, shouldn't be too much longer before it's flat. Then, fingers crossed it works.
How do I get back to TWRP? Fastboot then select 'recovery' (I think I recall that being one of the options)?

just to be on the safe side, i would stay in fastboot and re-flash TWRP
The battery finally went flat, but then as soon as I plugged the phone in it booted into TWRP...which still doesn't work. Have unplugged it again. No idea where to go from here. Tried the "adb reboot bootloader" command from the thread you linked to, and all it did was boot right back into TWRP.

this happened to me, just hold power + vol down + vol up for 10 seconds, phone will reboot.
edit: whilst doing this dont have the usb plugged in. I have noticed having the usb plugged in, a restart sends it straight back to twrp - hence the same issue.
It reboots straight into TWRP when plugged into either the wall or my computer, and just shuts down when not plugged in at all. Can't get it to boot at all, with either volume down + power or just power, but the second I plug it in it boots TWRP.

ok try, plugging laptop usb port and hold power + vol down + vol up together for 10secs.
Left it plugged in for a while, let the battery build up, and managed to get it booted into Android. So that's a start, at least.
So: fastboot, "fastboot erase recovery" then "fastboot flash recovery twrp.img"?

fastboot flash recovery twrp.img should override. i would also download another version just in case that one is corrupted
this is where i got it originally

You mean another version from another source, or another copy via that link? Not sure where else to get a copy; I assume you get links from the TWRP website after selecting your phone model but the HTC One Mini 2 isn't listed.
I saw somewhere that simply overriding could cause problems, therefore it's best to erase first?

TWRP for htc one mini 2 its not yet avaiable in the site, so this is custom.

So when I installed the TWRP app on the google play store and started it. It required me to rewrite my sd card or whatever so I went and ahead and did it. While my phone turned off still plugged into my computer via usb it started spamming the format windows on my computer. Like roughly 12 tabs opened up asking to format this drive. So I closed all the windows and re plugged in the usb and the same problem came up. And awhile all of this is going on the device is on but the screen is black and the back lights are on. Even when trying to restart the phone its the same problem stuck on black screen and the formatting windows keep popping up. It won't go to download or recovery mode it just stays on the black screen. This is my 2nd lg g2 I bought for business and I don't recall ever having this problem with my original LG G2. Anybody have any experience with this or a fix?

Yeah I've tried but the lg flash tool will give a error in the middle of flashing it
saying the phone is disconnected from pc, even though its still connected. It would go up to 25% then 60% then back to 25% in the middle of flashing then the error pops up.
Edit: Yeah while flashing the vs98024A kdz it will stop at 60% on the lg mobile support tool and it won't go past that. It'll just have the phone being disconnected from the computer error.
Is it safe to assume nobody knows how to fix this?
Same exact brick here.

Suggestion, have you tried the tot method yet? There isn't a 24A tot, but you can always take the ota.
same thing
I have the same thing and got it the same way with goomanager .was installing recovery and after reboot I got black screen with backlight on but to logo no nothing... can't get to download mode because I can't power off the phone. I also get the format drives promt in windows (about 15 or so all with a different drive letter) one drive I can read and it contains a folder called image with files in it. that drive is write protected. at this point I will wait till the backlight kills the battery and hope I can get into download mode after it shuts down.
FYI: I did try the LG mobile support tool but it did not see the phone. would love some ideas....

instead of waiting for the battery to drain, try this:
1. Unplug the phone from charger/USB cable
2. press and hold the power + volume down buttons for a few seconds... let go of the buttons 2 seconds after you feel it vibrate.
3. hold the volume up, and connect the phone to your computer.
you should be in Download mode by now....proceed to flash the phone back to stock using the LG Flash tool.
Hope this helps.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2582142
in Linux it seems to flash to the phone fine but I am still stuck with a black screen with the backlight on
I did wait for the phone to run down and shut off but still could not get into download mode.
My wife has the same phone .. is their a way to copy her working files to the bricked phone?
Windows see's the phone as QHSUSB_BULK in device manager if that helps any. before all this started it saw it as an android device
Hello. So a while back I got a Fire 7 5th Gen tablet for Christmas. I rooted it using KingRoot downloaded from Chrome, then one day I was so stupid, you know how many places tell you to not install TWRP. Well, I did it anyway, and while booting to it, it shut off for a couple days. When I was finally able to get it back on, well on first hand, I don't think it's in a bootloop, but it will show amazon, the fire goes on longer that normal (about a minute), then after that's done it just shows a blank screen with only a tad bit of light with it. Please, help. I also have a Fire HD 7 that I can't get past the password because I accidentally erased the keyboard and it won't pop up and another fire 7 that will show amazon, shuts off, shows amazon, cuts off, and continues in the same sequence. Any ideas?

hi! I have the same problem when my unrooted fire 5th gen suddenly froze and I got black screen, how do i do this?
I'll look for the link after this initial posting and add it after. Download the proper firmware and place the .zip into the same folder as platform-tools (the folder you use to use ADB.) Follow the steps below first, to possibly resolve issues before flashing firmware.
1) power down device. If you can't, press the power button and hold until device turns off.
2) When it's off, first press the volume down button and hold it, then press and hold the power button until the recovery screen comes up.
4) Scroll to 'wipe cache partition.' Select it with the power button. You won't lose any user data or files, yet.
5) Select reboot.
6) If problem is still there, follow steps 1-2 again.
7) Scroll to factory reset and select with power button. You WILL lose all user data and files.
8) Wipe cache partition again (I do this often if I go through resets).
9) Select reboot.
10) If problem STILL persists...Repeat steps one and two. Plug in tablet to PC. Select "make an update vis ADB" or something similar.
11) type: adb sideload xxx.zip (x being the firmware file).
12) That should do it assuming your device is recoverable.

See this thread..
If I recall, I don't think a notice pops up when you plug it in in recovery/fastboot. Try plugging it in and let it get a full charge from a wall outlet. Then try to power it back on into recovery while it is still plugged in. Don't plug it into your PC until you get past the recovery screen and select add update from adb. You might have to do that a few times. I had a similar problem on my XT907 phone where it would reboot every time I got into the recovery screen and I eventually was quick enough to get into fastboot to do what I needed.

I would wait and see if anyone else comments. I have not yet had the unfortunate experience of being totally cut off from recovery. Sorry I couldn't help
I've even tried talking Amazon to giving me a replacement. I'm pretty sure his name was Ajit and he said I was off the 90 day warranty, so sadly I don't even know what to do. I did learn something though. Whilst trying to boot it into recovery it becomes stuck on the Amazon logo. What if it's in recovery, but just not showing any recovery screen. This is all I know what I can do??
So m
So my theory is that there is access to recovery, but when you're in it, it only shows Amazon until you force it off. Could this possibly help anyone fix their own fire 7 5th gen. Because if you find out anything hit me with it. It could be helpful to others reading this post.

There is no recourse if you can not access the 'stock' recovery environment. The persistent Amazon logo simply indicates the device is stuck in the early stages of booting. Sorry for your loss.
