How to Unlock Bootloader - (Marshmallow)
This TWRP will automatically unlock bootloader
To relock bootloader, flash relock_bootloader.zip via twrp recovery
Download this recovery: https://github.com/sabpprook/androi...ses/download/3.0.2-0/twrp-3.0.2-0-ze500kl.img
Boot it in fastboot mode with this command:

How to Relock Bootloader
If you flash a raw rom bootloader will be locked.
To do this, download Asus Flash Tool(AFT) and Asus RAW rom file and flash raw rom.
AFT: ASUS.Flash.Tool.v1.0.0.45-ATD-20160913.zip
RAW Rom: WW_ZE500KL_13.1010.1612.53_M3.6.51_Phone-user.raw.zip
How to Downgrade from MM to Lollipop
Flash this rom with AFT:
WW_ZE500KL_V12.8.5.222_M3.6.42_Phone-user.raw.zip
How to Root

How to Flash TWRP Recovery
To flash downloaded twrp recovery:

Press enter and wait 30 seconds.
Recommended installation:
Install TWRP (Only for custom ROMs)
Install Rom (Custom or Stock)
Install Xposed (Only for 5.0, 5.1 or 6.0)
Install Magisk (If you need root)
Install Magisk Universal Hide Module (If you need to pass Safetynet)

How to update to Oreo from Magisk rooted stock rom OOS 4.5.1?

Can anyone help me with the steps to update to Android Oreo (OOS 5) from OOS 4.5.1 retaining root?
Below are the current setup of my phone
Rooted - Yes (Magisk version 14.0)
Recovery - TWRP version 3.1.1-2
Current Rom - Stock OOS 4.5.1
I haven't had any problems in updating earlier but now when I try to flash the full oreo rom from TWRP, I am getting error 7.
Below are the steps I followed.
Downloaded the full OTA zip.
Rebooted to recovery.
Unistalled Magisk.
Tried to flash the Oreo OTA zip. At this point TWRP showed error 7.
Reinstalled Magisk and rebooted to system.
Phone is working fine.

you need to use latest twrp for oreo, for example blue spark version, search for it on xda...

It's exactly what you need.

All Oreo ROM threads clearly state under the "Instructions" heading, that you need either AkhilNarangs Modified TWRP or Blu_Sparks TWRP V50. Using stock TWRP would result in an error.
If the error may still persist, try flashing a different firmware.

Just to get some more clarity.
I have the original OTA full zip. Should I download the zip file from your thread?
Can I install the custom version of TWRP using the official TWRP app? I am bit confused on how to install it.
Is it important that I should use Magisk 14.3 or will v 14 have the same effect?

I can tell you how I have done it yesterday (successfully).
1. Update TWRP - I prefer blu sparks version 8.52 (Link: https://forum.xda-developers.com/devdb/project/dl/?id=27225); you can do it by using your installed TWRP Version (Install .img)
2. Dirty flash OOS 4.5.1 again (to remove root / magisk) - once finished DO NOT reboot into system, reboot into Recovery/TWRP to verify the new version and afterwards to system
3. flash OOS 5.0 (Oreo) - dirty flash is okay
4. flash magisk Version 14.3
These are the steps I have followed yesterday and all is running perfect and without any problems.

I did the same and I was suddenly encrypted and no chance to get my data back. Still forcing clean my phone because I cannot format the device. I get always an error message in TWRP like: unable to format to remove encryption
I go crazy...

Enter recovery and wipe data and then cache.
Then reflash the rom and probably you will be good to go.

I tried to flash Magisk on my Redmi 4X (using TWRP 3.0.3) no error during flashing, but then after booting completes, i don't see Magisk anywhere and phone doesn't get rooted.
ROM: MIUI GLOBAL 9.2 STABLE (9.2.5.0)
TWRP: TWRP Recovery (cofface) 3.0.3-0
Anyone has any idea?

Install magisk manager manually. Either search internet for magisk manager apk or extract the zip and install apk from there

Get the boot.img file from the fastboot images of your miui version, install magisk manager, and install using patch boot image method, patch the boot.img file then flash this patched boot.img file to boot in twro recovery!

critically unlocked

but every time tried to boot to recovery it just goes to stock recovery

My EQ wasn't even working in the first place.
If you have root you can install Viper4Android or Dolby, that will really improve your listening experience

hey there,
just wanted to ask, if you could help me out - I am on 6.12E with unlocked bootloader, but everytime I boot up recovery, I get "[libfs_mgr]dt_fstab: Failed to find device for partition system", so if I try to install 6.17D to get this recovery, it fails to install, also can"t get 6.19B to flash...
also I can"t get ADB to start working in recovery, because my laptop doesn"t recognise this phone, before, on Nougat, it worked good (Android was bricked, but ADB worked in recovery mode)
so I don"t know how to proceed further - maybe you could provide me the recovery image from 6.17D, if you still have it after about three years now ...
can I just download from OTA in android and then try to flash TWRP? does this work or is this all dependant from your instructions on using 6.17D recovery?
I would really apreciate your response, becuase I"m about to make the best out of this phone, got it from my grandma, never used - wanted to update everything, install adaway, viper4android and give it to someone in need....
