Greetings everyone!
Few weeks ago, I gave my device to a friend of mine to manually update it. Something went wrong so he decided not to go any further. Yday i tried to "Factory reset", after reset some error pop'd in the left upper corner of the phone. It says:
[LGE_SECURITY] ERROR: boot image signature
Critical failure: Unable to start kernel.
Unrecoverable bootloader error (0x00000002).
Anyone had any similiar or even the same problem as i am facing right now? Thanks in advance.
best regards, Milan
Guy didn't know what he was doing apparently. Your handset is still locked and he apparently tried installing a 3rd party ROM, lemme guess, you wanted a newer version of Android than 4.1., which is a reasonable enough thing. Problem is that out of the box you can't do that because it only boots images signed by LG and they abandoned development after releasing 4.1 and a couple of minor point releases. You aren't totally screwed but if you were having somebody else do it for you, you might need to get some help. You can find the details elsewhere here, or more likely point a more skilled friend at it, but here it is in a nutshell.
You need to get LG's official updating software (from the LG website) and you need to fiddle with it a bit until you get it to do a rescue because it expects to have already paired up with the phone while it was still working. If you already had it installed, great because it will make it easier. Anyway, you will probably have to manually pick your model and input the IMEI since it won't already know those things and it will go out and fetch the most recent image. You will push VOL Down and insert the USB cable from a powered down state, it will then do the rest. Good chance you will even retain your data unless that 'factory reset' you mention actually succeeded.
Of course that will only get you back to stock 4.1. Read around for the official way and several un-official ways to unlock your boot loader. Once that is done you can install a better recovery and then a newer version of Android. But the first step is to restore the stock software since you have to have a running phone to be able to unlock it.
And no, nobody has ever been able to explain WHY they lock them, but every single manufacturer seems determined to do it, chipmakers put a lot of work and ad copy into how extensive and unbreakable the locks on their newest chip is, etc. And then they either bow to customer demand and add an unlock feature or we here at xda do it for them... as a courtesy of course. Truly we do live in the asylum. Wonko the Sane was onto something.
I'm running a P7 with the firmware it shipped with and I'd really like to get it up to date, but every package I've tried so far has failed during package verification. There seems to be very little info on how to update your phone from such an old build. Can anyone please help because I'm at my wit's end here. I have a limited date cap so can't just keep downloading updates in the hopes that one of them will work.
I would be greatly indebted to anyone who could help me. This issue is making me want to cry.
Do you have a phone with a provider/network lock? Which roms did you try so far? You may give B133 a shot, if that doesn't work you'd have to go the way over a custom rom and then getting back to the stock one. I can describe the process more detailed in case it's necessary.
Thanks for the response!
I think the issue is that it is a network locked ROM. I got the phone from a provider called Vodacom and get their splash screen and everything. I went to speak to them and they told me I'm not supposed to be able to update my firmware because that requires rooting the phone, which voids my warranty. Sales people being sales people, I'm not sure how truthful this is. I can't imagine a provider refusing to let you update your phone.
So far I've tried B133, B609, B617 and B853, none of which works, sadly. Someone suggested I unlock the bootloader and I got the unlock code through the Huawei site, but when I try to boot using the three-button method it tells me that no update.app file was found, so I'm not sure how to get to where I enter the unlock code.
Hm, you might search around a bit and find an easier way, but if not, unlock the bootloader, flash twrp and any emui 2.3 based custom rom. Then flash the stock recovery and make a forced update (3 buttons) with B133.
To access the bootloader you have to press volume- and power until a white screen with some text appears.
Anyway, to update would definitely be worth it.
Yeah, I did precisely that last night and ended up soft-bricking my phone. It wouldn't even work when I flashed the original firmware. It's currently in at a repair shop and I hope they can fix it. Lesson learned though.
Thanks for the help anyway.
It's not that easy to hardbrick the P7, it's very likely that he will be able to fix it! With some time for trying, you probably would have been able to do it by yourself, too.
Your very welcome
Yeah, the thing is I was up all night trying to fix it. Flashing it back the original software should theoretically have done it, so I have no idea why it didn't.
Hey,
So i used the SRK tool to try and root my VIE-L09C40 (P9 Plus)
Something seemed to happended during the rooting procedure and when i entered e-recovery it said it had to Download a new version, but couldnt connect to internet via wifi.
Any ways it seemed to work after a while but now i have no keyboard at all, so i cant literally start my phone.
it starts, boots the EMUI 5.0 logo and goes through the information a terms, i click the ok button and thats fine.
Next it tells me to sign in to my wifi, i select my wifi and when i go to type the password all i have is google voice as a keyboard, ive searched and searched but cannot find a way around it, also the frp has tripped on phone so i cannot log in to my google account without a keyboard.
How can i get around this?
do i have to flash parts of firmware?
any help would be great, i sent it away to hauwei and they say warranty void due to software!, can only assume something wrong was flashed?
Waiting for phone to be returned now, please help
I had the exact same issue last night as well. No keyboard and only an option to enter details with voice.
Ended up with an essentially bricked phone. Couldn't find any info on the problem online, so I have to improvise.
I'm starting from scratch after formatting etc. using stock oeminfo, recovery and rolling back to Marshmallow. (fingers crossed ADB will let me, because it was giving me errors before)
Will let you know if I'm successful and the steps I took.

Good luck, i did read that it might be possible to install the base firmware back to it and then update again.
Im sure we are not the only people this has happened to and if you succesfully do this, maybe consider making a full step by step guide so to help others.
Fingers crossed
:good:
Will do my best.. So far it's been a major. I've managed to flash a working stock ROM and boot up. But there are a few things to smooth out. Such as, I have no IMEI number now and the build is C900, also the bootloader is modified.
To get it to boot I had to use DC- Phoenix to flash a factory firmware(Chinese) which I had to pay for. Then I flashed a stock vie-l09c432b181 ROM over the top.
To repair the IMEI I'll have to use HCU, which I'll have to pay for as well. But that's ok. If I can get my original IMEI back, I can use the original unlock code I got earlier this year, otherwise I'll have to get a new one based on a new IMEI.
I can repair the bootloader and region code using twrp etc. so that's not a problem.
I'm actually using the phone to write his reply, so I can at least use it.
Once I have it all 100% working I'll try to put together a full step by step.
Cheers.
Well, I have a working phone. But, it'snot stable. Having trouble with mobile connection, sms, mms, 4g etc not staying connected. So wont be doing any write-ups just yet.
Not until it's stable.
I'm wanting to return it to complete stock now. And that requires trying to find an oeminfo file for C706 (New Zealand).
Will add more as I get there. Sorry.
I had the same problems. All I did is updated the phone with the firmware you want via Twrp . Be warned that it will replace the recovery back to stock. Also clear the cache and etc.
I had a similar issue with SRK tool, bootlooping, won't flash new firmwares, lost all the stock apps and diagnostic tools.
I'm now stuck on a TEST-KEYS build with no NFC or Bluetooth.
My solution was to throw the piece of junk in a drawer, forget about it and I went and bought a Pixel XL instead - a phone that is properly supported and gets updates quickly.
After much messing and a headache I finally got to c432b370
And everything back to normal

How did you succeed?
I am stuck on TEST-KEYS but I am not able to flash other roms on it. When I go to recovery, the update process stops after a while

I have read through many posts here in the forum, where I got some tips that I have tried, but nothing that totally applied to my problem, only parts of it. I have upgraded my phone with every firmware of the Open_EU since January 2020 without any problem using LGUP. Last time I upgraded to Android 10 in August, it was also successful but then check nt-code: 222201: ff started to appear everytime I turned on the phone. It's annoying, but not a big problem since the phone works perfect. However I tried to upgrade to Android 10 v405ebw30c recently, and now LGUP can't make the upgrade, it says can't cross-DL, with a strange message judypn_lao_eea ->judypn_lao_com. Could the NT-code be the cause of this? I also tried to enter the hidden menu, *#546368#*405# and I can see the nt code, but I can't change it. Nothing happens. Will I have to root my phone to make this work? or are there other options?
Some history, this phone doesn't officially exist in Sweden, where I live. However, it's possible to buy it anyway. It was sold as brand new and unlocked. The first week I discovered that I couldn't make the officially update . Then I found out it's originally italian (TIM), and probably someone that unlocked afterwards. But maybe not properly made since it was problem to make upgrades with LG Bridge. And when I succefully managed to make the upgrade with LGUP I decided to keep the phone anyway, because I liked it too much. But since this NT code started to appear after the Android 10 upgrade, I wondered if maybe there's some "leftovers" from TIM italy. So is rooting the only option for me? Except for the upgrade problems it works perfect every day.

Thank you for your reply. Yes, I have read many instructions even on this page how to edit, cust_path_mapping.cfg, and that it's surely easy once the phone is rooted. But that's why I first wanted to see the possibilities to do this without that I have to root the phone.

So, u have 2 problems right? u want to upgrade to v405ebw30c, but can't, and you also have the nt-code error right?
First, no, they aren't related. I think that's highly unlikely. That's not something lgup checks for. I'd bet you're using the 1.14 version dll and should be using the 1.16 dll and should be doing a refurbish.
As far as the nt-code error. It's a pain, lots and lots of info about fixing it, most of them need root. But here's what worked for me, no root needed: I switched from att pie to Korean open Q (first time had the nt-error and no editing anything would fix it), so went back to att and then did the korean 409N again, first with partition DL. Let that finish, it has to reboot the phone completely to finish. Then, don't change the phone in anyway, just shut it off. Back to LGUP and do a Refurbish with the same kdz.
No more nt-error code. It *seems* that nt-error code info gets propagated to various partitions as a part of refurbish. I verified that the ftm partition, where that information lives, was completely spaces (blank) after the refurbish... it's odd, I know. But for whatever reason, I no longer have the nt-error code problem.
cheers

Thank you for your reply. No I don't know if they're related either, it was just a guess since the problems started at the same time. Well, I always had a kind of "problem" since I never have been able to upgrade from LG Bridge. And that I guess is from the NT-code. But the sign in the start appeared after the Android 10 upgrade. However, I'm using LGUP 1.16.0.3 and I have used it everytime, with DLL version 1.9.39.7.
And actually it wouldn't bother me too much having this sign in the start anyway, I only restart the phone like once per week. But of course it bothers me that I can't make the upgrade like before. And I can also mention that I have never tried to refurbish with LGUP, only upgrades, because I have some bank apps etc. that are a bit complicated to reinstall. Of course it's possible, but I have to be mentally prepared for it. So I'll only do that when I know there's no other option. And the phone work good today, so I'm not in a rush, but in a couple of months I should be doing an upgrade of course.
And thanks for telling me the other option too, I will surely try it one day but since it also requires refurbish I will try after I fail to make the normal refurbish.
I don't have any experience of rooting, if I root my phone, will I keep all the data or is it comparable to refurbish? Are the any other risks rooting the phone? I'll lose the warranty, but I don't really have the warranty anyway since it's not an official product in my country.

No, to root, you loose all data and have to start again. Part of rooting is to flash dm-verity which turns off encryption. But, that allows you to do a backup of the data partition once you've reinstalled everything. The positive side there is that in the future, you could back up that partition (data), make any other changes, then flash data back, and your apps would be back as they were.
Other risks? Well, maybe, if the phone was stolen I guess, it would be easier for someone to steal your data. Your situation, with serious banking apps, it **may be** you don't want that risk...
Maybe for just trying a refurb to lose nt-code, look at LG's 'restore' from previous device ability, use it to save off the apps somewhere, then restore after refurb? no root needed.
cheers

Bad news odin and such wont help. Right now you are what's called soft locked you have 1 recourse and that is factory reset. Using adb it might be possible to pull off a backup of the file system but that is still it. If you get a readable backup you are still going to need factory reset. The only thing that would have helped would be twrp and nandroid backups you could have loaded them or used twrp to mount the emmc to copy off. And since you are stock you might have encrypted the emmc and sd card and if that is the case nobody can help you you only have 1 option and that is factory reset and restore from syncronized backup.
What's more is this isn't an issue of a maligned 3rd party theme needing to be overwritten it is from an official store on a stock device. Good news is you seem to have signed into samsung cloud backup and perhaps linked a google account to the phone so the auto backup should restore your contacts and txt messages.
