I have the latest Kindle Fire 8 (OS 5.6.0.0) and I am having an issue with the SD card slot. Sometimes the cover will open when I am not trying to open. It doesn't open very far, but it is far enough open that the card will move enough that it will not be read by the tablet. I am a little worried that I could lose the card because of this if it happens when I am not paying attention. I suppose I could put a piece of tape over the cover but that seems like an inadequate way to fix the issue, and the tablet is a recent enough purchase that it still has a warranty on it. Anyway, I was wondering if anyone else had this issue and how they resolved it.
If the card can move the slot cover, it may be not properly inserted - there's a spring to help remove it. When inserting, you should hear a slight click sound, and the card should not move on its own anymore.

Issue: when i try to insert my mini SD into my 8125, it doesn't "lock" or secure the card in place. it just kinda jumps up and down as i continuously try to press it down.
Reslove....?: anyone know how i can remedy this promblem. i assume it's some mechanism/spring locking issue, but i'm unsure. there is a place here in town that will do the repair for, surprise surprise, $60. am i gettin' cheated or should i just fork over the money? THANKS!!!!
I have a fix for you, it's not pretty, but it's simple. just wrap a piece of electrical tape once around the top about 2/3 of the card and it should stay in their fine. I had to do this to a loose card I had and worked great for keeping it in there. Just make sure you don't wrap any of the important parts of it and you should be ok.
Yup!
did the same, but I inserted a small folding made of tissue paper on the upper side of the Sdcard after inserting into it's slot,it made the sdcard to stay in the slot firmly and firmly connected to the connectors, did did the job and remained like this and working for almost six months.Only precaution here is to be sure that the connectors don't get covered and make good and firm connection,
Bonus!
THANKS for the quick reply guys! i really appreciate it. i'll give your advice a go and see what happens.
Well, i took the advice and i must say its not too bad of a rig, if ya just wanna get the job done. i usded a single strip of electrical tape and put it once around the mini sd card. it seems to be "goin no where" for the time being. whats nice is that i have a micro sd w/ with mini and regular sd adapters. so when the micro is in plugged into the tapped mini in my phone, all i need to do is simply remove the micro from the top of the "trapped" mini sd and place it in my regular sd adapter and then into my laptop sd slot. it seems like a happy medium for now. we'll see how it goes.
Hi All,
I've got a tytn 2 (kaiser) and its having some problems. Basically the keyboard is stuffing up (again) and it won't read SD cards. I've changed sd cards etc etc and still no joy. What I'm wondering is if there are parts that I can buy to fix this problem? I know I can buy a keyboard but can I dismantle the phone to fix the card reader side of things?
Its worth noting that I have also tried to reflash the phone from the micro sd card, and at that stage the device cant even read from the SD card. This makes me think its an actual hardware failure.
Thanks,
Lewis
So nobody can help me? D:
I can't offer much help here, but this topic will have at least some info that might help you out.

Oh ok that helps. So where would I get parts for my kaiser? SD card reader etc.
Unfortunately I have no clue....
I would say check the threads about replacing the LCD panel, and the stores that have that, or the digitizer might have the LCM (Lower Control Module) that has the SD card slot
I've seen digitizers and housings -- but I'm afraid that for a lot of parts you'll have to buy an old Kaiser...
I have an LCM with a damaged flexi, the sd card slot should be fine, not sure how easy it would be to remove, or replace, it may be possible to do this if you have access to professional desoldering tools, or know someone who can do this for you.
Yeah well I got the kaiser to pieces, not sure how to get it back together lol
I think this will be my last HTC device. Looking at how it is made, the phone is 40% screws and 60% glue. It makes sense that when the device would warm up sufficiently that the glue would go everywhere. It just seems shoddily built.
I'll attempt to put it back together for one last boot to get my contacts etc however i'm not that hopeful. I think I'll be jumping to the nokia n900.
Good day folks
Have anyone encountered a sim card error or an internal storage error (low disk space) on your HD7s ?
And what solutions did you find or attempt?
I think I found one solution for this issue. But would like to see first if anyone beside me got this problem.
Regards,
Xeno
I also encountered sim card error. But no space error.
How did you managed to fix sim card error?
In order to fix this I had to unscrew the warranty sticker, so this means your warranty will be gone. (If you care about the warranty at this point anyway)
You need to follow Wolfman017 guide to upgrade the SD card, but you will need to take it up a notce.
You will need to remove the whole back of the phone, until you see the phone's board.
Once your remove the whole back, notice right above where you insert your sim card. There should be small black piece which connects the sim slot to the board.
Use your fingernails to pull it up gently. Then press it back down with your finger until it clicks properly. A bit of force but not too much.
Once done no need to assemble the whole phone yet. Just put the back cover and sim card, place back the battery and test.
Hopefully this fixes the issue.
Let me know how it goes for you. If it does take a couple of pictures of the process and post them in the thread.
Regards,
Xeno
Hello.
I have same problem. Can you make some photo of this process?
It did not help me. I'm not sure that I do everything right.
Excellent job mr Xenohart i confirm this work 100%
disassembly the phone ( you can search the video in youtube ) then only need remove the socket connector sim card board and put again. test and enjoy

Hello Xeno, i am wonder if you can show me some pictures of you doing this, because i can't understand to well, and i have this problem to ! I will like if you reply. Thanks
I've searched quite a bit and didn't find anyone with the same issue. I even told my mother she was lying to me about my being special (as recommended by the "NOOB video").
I took my N1 apart according to a very thorough youtube tutorial and cleaned the lcd and touchscreen because I had dust coming in around the corners. Before this, there were no problems running CM7.2 and my 16gb generic class 6 micro sdhc card worked with not a single issue. Afterward, as I marveled at my beautifully clean screen, I began to notice that the card would eventually stop working, not loading programs, wouldn't allow me to save anything to it, etc. I've tried a 8gb toshiba class 4 card and a generic 2gb class 2 card. The only one that seems to have any stability is the 2gb card, where I can install apps for the first few minutes of the card reading to it, and then it's done. I can't save maps to it or take pictures. Music wasn't accessible. I've reformatted in windows (fat32) and checked for errors with all the cards. No problems. The 16gb card eventually threw out corrupted card errors, which Windows could fix.
The 2gb card works thus: the apps I've managed to move there (by installing on the phone and then rebooting & moving to sd asap after the reboot) all work. Kindle works, my Bible, etc. etc. all the apps work. Maps can't access the maps I've downloaded, but otherwise loads just fine. I sometimes can take a picture or two, but usually the camera says I need to insert an sd card to use the camera (even though the 2gb card is inserted). 8gb and 16gb cards don't work (as described in the previous paragraph).
Not sure what the deal is. Could I have screwed up the sd/SIM ribbon cable when taking the phone apart? replacements are cheap (like $6.50 shipped on ebay), but have I destroyed more than that? Should I take care of the problem using software fixes instead? Thanks for your input.

Bump. I'd really like to get some input before deciding to gut it again
Thanks!
solved?
I believe I have it working, but want to let it run for longer to be sure (sometimes things stopped working after a few minutes, sometimes after a few hours). I took the phone apart and took off the copper foil that went around the SIM & SD card slots. It was mashed up a bit from earlier disassembly and my guess is that it was shorting out some contacts on the pcb beneath it.
So far I seem to be able to take pictures & video, utilize my cached maps, use programs, and play music as I had been able to before. This is all on the 2gb card, however. I'll work on switching over to the 16gb card soon to see whether the problem is gone forever.
Just a side question - will removing the copper-colored foil endanger my phone in any way? I'm guessing it was in place as some sort of shield, but I've seen quite a few disassembled phones on the interwebz without that foil in place. Any advice there?

ok so I repair phones for a living and to be honest, sometimes its just not feasible to put that copper foil back and I have really never noticed any negative effects from removing it. you should be good to go man.
Well, it seems to be solved! I've been using the 16gb card (it's actually a Strontium card, not a no-name) for a few days and have also discovered using an ext3 partition to make more space for apps. Running without a hitch!
So here's my situation
While crawling across a rapids I slipped, dipped my phone in the river, and thought all was lost.
I pulled the case and back shell off immediately and it seemed all was well once I dried the G2 with rice for 12 hours. BUT, the sim card no longer would read. After getting back home from my trip I pulled the entire phone apart and discovered the reader looked a bit rough and the slot was probably shot from the water hitting it. SIM card works fine in my S3 mind you.
So where I am at is I have a new SIM reader on its way here to install in a day or so which I THINK should solve the issue. Im curious if anyone else has installed this component before?. Appears to be 6 solder points that hold it in and thats about it. Hell of a thing that the entire phone works flawlessly but the SIM reader shat itself. Never seen anything like it.
Any and all input or ideas are welcome.
Cheers

Did you end up installing it?
My sim reader always gave out and I'm thinking of ordering the part but haven't been able to find a tutorial for the replacement.
I too would like to know the result...

I did end up installing the tray. However, as I removed the contacts that were placed on the board itself and so when I soldered in the new tray there was two points which would not adhere. I ended up replacing the whole board in order to remedy things.
But, most importantly I confirm the board install isnt too hard and will work if you just make sure to properly remove the old tray and dont just pry it off. The prying will rip the contacts from the board and then the solder wont hold.
