Just bought S6 G920T so i'm still new to all the bootloader security issues, i flashed TWRP yesterday and got stuck on bootloop after that. Bootloop was fixed after flashing Twisted v4 rom. I set up everything including fingerprint and when i restarted the phone it gave the error "Custom Binary blocked by FRP".
Currently i am trying to revive the phone, about to flash 6.0.1 PK5 firmware.
Now i have a few questions, please answer whichever you can:
- In case flashing 6.0.1 fails the next solution is to flash 7.0 firmware, is it possible to flash Twisted v4 (6.0.1) after that? Or i have to go with Nougat roms only?
- What should i know to avoid ever having another FRP lock again with a custom rom? Dont set up fingerprint? Or enable OEM unlock option is enough?
- Any way to permanently disable this Custom Binary lock security feature?
I want to use Twisted v4 with root and fingerprint if possible (dont need Samsung Pay). Sorry if this is a repost, i tried gathering whatever info i could on this issue but still confused on these questions. Thanks in advance! :highfive:
EDIT: Looks like this forum is dead, so i'll just answer my own questions from what i learned today with first hand experience for the next confused soul.
- Flashing 6.0.1 PK5 firmware fixed the FRP lock issue (if you were on newer firmware you will need to flash that one or higher)
- Enable Developer Options by clicking Build Number a few times, in Developer Options allow OEM unlock to avoid "Custom Binary FRP lock"
Now i am using Twisted v4 with root and fingerprint enabled, TWRP is installed and no issues till now.
If root/TWRP is what you're after, is the Tmobile version the friendliest S6 to get?

Yes. The TMobile Galaxy S6 is the last Galaxy model with an unlocked bootloader.

Its ok bro, experience is the best teacher
don’t mean to hijack, but
Saw this now after I posted and you’re saying it’s dead (which sucks, but oh well)
Which version were you on before flashing entirely?
Any chance you could lemme know what to google to grab the 6.01 fw? I’ll try that out I guess.
I’m having frp lock and can’t even flash anything it seems, but I’ll try anything.

You can download the PK5 Firmware here > https://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/galaxy-s6/SM-G920T/TMB/confirm/G920TUVU5EPK5/113173/
OR...you can try to use Samsung Kies or Samsung Smartswitch to restore your phone back to stock. You'll need the model and serial number which you can get by booting to Download mode and then pressing the home button. Once you get back up and running on stock firmware you can enable developer options then USB debugging and OEM unlock.
Once you have those taken care of you can root, install TWRP, Xposed, and flash Twisted Nougat.
hate to be annoying, but is there a better place to find this rather than a place that will take 12 hours to dl?

Like I said u can try using Kies or Smartswitch. I have used Kies successfully on a handful of S6s without issue. Otherwise I could probably download it tomorrow at work and send you a link.
Sent from my [device_name] using XDA-Developers Legacy app
No worries. I’ll do it overnight. Thanks
Also Odin 3.10.6 started being able to flash where 3.12.? Failed.
I got the baseband you have in your sig I just installed. Still have FRP tho and was told to wait 72 hours.
Mean time my fiancé just bought an iPhone instead.

Been away from xda for a while so didnt see your post. Instead of sammobile you can usuallly find firmware on androidfilehost. If you were on 6.0.1 before then you should be able to flash this file:
https://androidfilehost.com/?fid=745425885120707260
if that doesnt work then 7.0 file should work (basically you need the same version that was flashed or updated version, older versions not allowed):

Hello!
Here is the full G925VVRS4DQD1 Odin manual update to 7.0 Nougat for everyone to enjoy. You can flash from any current version you have now it doesn't matter whether you are on 5.1.1 or 6.0.1.
https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=529152257862722630
If for whatever reason you want to downgrade or don't like 7.0, you can safely downgrade to any of the below versions without any issues. After you flash a lower android version using Odin, phone might get stuck on Verizon logo. If that happens, all you need to do is boot into recovery and do a factory wipe/reset and phone will boot right up after that.
G925VVRS4CQA3 (6.0.1) - https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=529152257862700500
G925VVRS4CPL3 (6.0.1) - https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=673368273298921946
G925VVRU4CPK2 (6.0.1) - https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=385035244224407601
G925VVRU4CPD2 (6.0.1) - https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=24566454284190657
G925VVRU4BOK7 (5.1.1) - https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=24269982087018504
G925VVRU4BOG9 (5.1.1) - https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=24052804347845467
Thanks a lot! I downloaded one from sammobile but there was one only one file, modified date 4/07...
I notice the files within the zip from your link mention REV02 and are dated 4/26.

@toutanje Out of curiosity, how did you determine which builds you can safely downgrade to from 7.0? Is it something you personally tested or did someone recently go through the hard work and post their results somewhere? BTW, you can now add G925VVRS4CQA3 (6.0.1) - https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=529152257862700500 as two people have confirmed downgrade success here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-galaxy-s6-edge/help/downgrading-nougat-t3601096 . One used firmware from sammobile and the other directly from the link above. This is the very last build available for Marshmallow.
Hi there. I installed the new update on my s6 edge 7.0 via verizon software updating tool.am noticing the sound quality of mt s6 edge has been changed.before the sound quality was thick and now its not that thick anymore.i want to bring back the thick quality sound on my s6 edge.there is setting called sound quality and effects but i cant manage to get back that sound quality i had with 6.0. Is there anyone who able to notice this change in the sound?

With a very a simple observation, no testing or anything needed
G925VVRS4DQD1 <-- you see the 4 towards the end of firmware build? That is the revision bit number. This means you can flash ANY firmware for that model with a 4 or higher. Take this 5.1.1 firmware for example ---> G925VVRU3BOG5. Even though this firmware is also 5.1.1 like the ones from above, this particular one will NOT work because it is on an older firmware revision bit (3).
The same is true and goes for ALL Samsung phone/tablet models and firmwares.

That is very good to know. Yeah I noticed it about the firmware naming convention but I had no idea what the value means (or the character before revision bit, U has become S). My phone out of the box was on G925VVRU3BOG5, so I guess I could go all the way back to G925VVRU4BOG7 if "needed" lol.
One of my fears about Nougat is about all the work they did to automate and place updates into the background. This could allow disabling of downgrades, or anything else at the discretion of Samsung and/or the carrier. I think this has already been done in Marshmallow, just on a smaller scale for security fixes. Anyway, it seems to me like an attack vector waiting to happen: less control over my phone combined with an easy way to break things. Imagine all the troubleshooting fun we will have.
So I upgraded to nougat. I'm having battery issues and just want to go back to marshmallow. but I'm having problems. The nougat rom installs just fine with odin. But when I try with any of the 6.0.1 roms it was failing. Then I noticed that re-partition was chcekd. So I unchecked it and now it goes through the process just fine. But now the complains with dm-verity verification failed. I can install nougat on it no problem. It's just the downgrade that's not working... any clues?

I actually managed to get the N925V to downgrade all the way back to the firmware version G925VVRU3BOG5.. May have cost some money for some very specific files but my phone's back on G925VVRU3BOG5 and it's really only a test phone for someone I do work for! I have it rooted with SuperSU and not kingroot and I created a script to keep the phone set to "permissive" so it's able to do full reboots and not just hot reboots using xposed... Unfortunately it seemed like no one cared about it when I posted it in the other thread so it's probably not worth it to a lot of people but I think it is with the amount of fine tuning I did to get it to where it is today!!

Mike! Can you explain how you did it? I'm stuck on nougat. Every time I try to downgrade, I get the dm verity error. I've tried all the 6.0.1 version and the 5.0.1. No luck . I'm back on nougat. Can you please let us know your process... Thanks!
Did you have to select anything special in the options? I just left it at default which is Auto reboot & F. Reset Time.

I was able to use this to flash my Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge from 5.1.1 to 7.0.
Not that I want to upgrade again, but is there a 7.1.2 available? Is there a routine schedule for that sort of thing or was the 7.0 Nougat think kind of a special case?
Thanks!

I haven't been keeping up, but now curious. Verizon shows DQH1 as current (a 7.0 build), while sammobile and androidfilehost show four builds available (all 7.0).
Ok, so I updated my G925V with nougat, now I'm just wondering if anyone has come out with a way to root this build? That's what I'm waiting for. Plz fill me in when that happens. Thanks.

I use the Z3x box and Octoplus box I have 2 of them for different phone makers but I have so many different wire connectors that I lost count because what works on Samsung doesn't work on LG, HTC etc etc.. You can find them pretty cheap but I'd avoid buying from eBay because of to many scams selling broken or bad boxes that can't be activated.

You unfortunately cannot downgrade the bootloader once you updated to 6.0.1 you lost the ability to go back and there's so far, no way possible to do it.
Hi. i need urgent help regarding downgrading my galaxy note 8 from pie to oreo or nougat. i am using android pie from last 1 month. some of my apps stop working so i decided to downgrade from pie to oreo. i had downloaded oreo firmware december 2018 version from sammobile and tried to flash with odin 3.13.1 but it failed. i had tried different versions of odin but every time flashing stuck at set partition nand write start.i always run odin as administrator. i also tried to flash different firmware version like sept version of oreo but still it failed. i downloaded nougat firmware from sammobile. it flashed normally and i was happy but when my phone restarted i was shocked. my device was factory reseted but with android pie version. it looked flashing nougat only formatted my device. i am tired. i tried every damn thing. i tried changing usb port, tried differant usb cable, reinstalled device drivers, made sure that usb debugging is on , even tried on differant pc. but no result. then i tried emergency software recovery in smart switch. if i connect my phone switched on then smart switch discover my device but when i connect my device in download mode then smart switch says that device not supported. i contacted service centre but they say they do not downgrade the device.please please please someone help me. i am attaching a screenshot of odin stuck at nand write start.

Unfortunately you can't downgrade. Once you have flashed a higher bootloader version you are stuck with it.
If you are on bootloader v5 you may be able to downgrade to the last Oreo build, I am not 100% sure on that though.
Only if they are same bootloader

You need to be rooted to be able to get that working again, some roms also have that patched already...
Although the thread is about the s7 I believe it is exactly the same for our note 8.

You can flash TWRP, copy /system/build.prop to the PC or SD Card, edit it on the PC, put it back in /system.
Once you are done, just flash stock revovery via TWRP.
It sounds hard, but it's eazy if you know what you are doing. Banking apps will still work, and with build.prop edited s health will work too.
I am not gonna walk you trough the entire process but this is a summary.

Oooh that, it's nothin.
You just need to hold volume up + bixby and power just before the phone auto restarts from download mode. When you do that it will boot twrp.
If you don't understand it go watch MaxLee on youtube, his method of flashing twrp on s8/n8

The way I know it, there is no way without twrp or root, and you said you don't want root because of banking apps.
If you flash twrp, do the thing with build.prop, and then flash stock recovery, you could still recive OTA updates and banking apps will work.
You just have to set up s health before the next OTA because that will revert built.prop back to normal.
But as long as you set up s health before that it will be ok.

Leave that bro coz m not ready to do that. Just help me with 1 thing if possible. There was other way to use s health on knox tripped device. That was downloading s health 4.8 version install it and open it. It will stuck at loading screen. Update it and it will work fine. Earlier i get it working that way when my device has oreo version. But now after pie update when i try to install any s health apk before version 5 that is 4.5, 4.7 or 4.8. I always get a message app not installed. After version 5 app get installed but again with root problem. Can u help me with installing old version. I dont know why s health old version is not getting installed. I had some other apps that are now discontinued. That apps get installed easily

The reason you can't install the modded version is because the version that was modded is less than pre-installed version on the device. As of now, you can't downgrade apps, only upgrade. Your only option is to wait for someone to patch a later version from the version you got installed on your phone.
I think someone can even just change a number in AndroidManifest.xml install it and then just upgrade.
I'm sure a patched version will pop-up again somewhere on xda, just make sure it's later version than the version pre-installed into the system.

Do they know the CEO of Samsung or something? This is the most frustrating Beta I've ever been apart of. Can't even test the damn thing.
Has anyone tried it on an S10 (G973F) with November security patch? And since it is asking to have checked OEM Unlock, does it unlock the bootloader?
----Edit
I've tried sideloading beta1 over ASJG didn't work I had to downgrade to ASII to make it work.
After installing beta1, playstore started telling me that my device is not certified and can not install apps like Netflix. so flashing (with CSC not HOME_CSC, so I don't know if it work with HOME_CSC) ASJG with Odin fixed the issue.

Since it's beta, it won't be certified by Google. That warning is even showing on all official betas. Netflix is a known problem and the Play version won't work. Most have been downloading Netflix from Apkmirror and that works.

What have you tried on the lockout? Some have gotten by it just by booting into safe mode, and some by booting into recovery.

First, use frija to download the proper firmeware fir you.
The boot your device into download mode and the flash it using odin (using home_csc, if it doesn't work try it again with csc) and the downloaded firmeware.
It should fix your problem as you go back to Android pie
Salutations everybody. I haven't had a phone from sammy in a while. Finally invested in a SM-N950F note 8. It's oreo. Tried to root earlier today using the pinned guide in the Guides forum. After going through the process, and flashing twrp. Then formatting data. And rebooting it to twrp (which I did a couple of times) (May been where I messed up,but it doesn't seem likely to me) I flashed the oreo n950f oem issue zip and rooted with magisk. Upon rebooting & enabling dev options. The oem toggle was missing. The guide didn't say what to do in the event that it was missing. Just that it was safe to reboot if it was there, and enabled.
Me being rushed for time rebooted anyway, and now when I try to boot up I get only official released binaries may be flashed, and the phone shuts off.
I'm aware I can restore to stock via odin. But I have a couple of questions.
A. Can I use the same odin version I used for the root process to return to stock, or do I need a different one?
And
B. There are loads of options for country and carrier on sammobiles site. I bought the phone used and have no idea of its country of origin. There is a version that says unknown for country and (bat) for carrier. Is that one safe to use, and is there any difference between the firmwares other than carrier setting being preinstalled (would be my guess of the only difference.)
Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.
This msg Only official released binaries are allowed to be flashed cause of the new security patch lock which called RMM or KG and since u were rooted before then u got this error that's cause you flashed a new BL to your device or you were connected to internet before editing kernel to prevent samsung to add the new lock to your device anyway a normal flash through odin will solve your problem and your device will be ready to use it again without any problems but also without any custom files like TWRP and Magsic which means u will not be able to root your device before editing kernel to remove the new security patch lock

Okay I was thinking I might of missed something. The patch for oem issue I thought covered that.
Is the unknown (bat) firmware the one I need to flash to stock?

Using odin 13.1.3 is recommended.
As you have the N950F, it is part of the multi OXM CSC, so you can flash the filmware for you country and carrier if desired (N950F)
If you want to root, I suggest just flashing a custom rom or kernel, as they have been patched for the RMM KG state issue.
Alirghty so i bought a used samsung note 8 duos. it says it on the back, in the software, in smart switch, heck even the AP and CSC files are infact for a SM-N950F
Here is where the problem is as far as I've figured out, I'll explain what the firmware files are on the device taken from dialing *#12580*369#:
BL:N950NKSU5DSK1
AP:N950FXXS7DSH1
CP:N950NKOU5DSH1
CSC:N950FOXM7DSG1
The phone runs fine honestly but its bugs me that there two different binaries mixed in my phone from what i can tell the BL and CP are from a Korean level 5 Binary (also can someone tell me why security levels matter now?) and the AP and CSC are from F model level 7 Binary
I cant flash anything stock cause its the only thing ive tried and it just wont let me. I am downloading a level 5 binary in *hopes* that it doesnt see an issue with the security levels between firmwares as i always get the fricken PIT error or secure download error orrrr the magic string invaild
All i need is a way to get my dualsims back up and running ive got two imeis on this phone which ive checked online and theyre working also id love it if i could just get all 4 files to be from the same firmware zip
FYI the only thing ive been able to flash is TWRP after which i got to installing no-verity and magisk, Ive been using twrp backups as a failsafe to revert back to the 'original' state my phone was in and thats the only thing working for me so far and i may or may not be a noob in flashing samsung devices

The reason for that is because the phone has obviously been repaired using different hardware from different devices. It's never going to be able to flash normal firmware being that there's different hardware in it. If you want to upgrade that you'll need to use the different versions of firmware for each different hardware.. I'd just send it back if I bought it from somewhere like that.
Revert to Stock
I owns one Galaxy Note 8 SN950-F Indian version,
I have installed one custom ROM for my mobile last month and now i need to revert back to stock.
How can i do it ? Once i installed stock OS using Odin but Knox looks crashed and apps like secure folder not working !
Can i get it done through service center ? When i contacted them they said its impossible as you have rooted once.

Once Knox is tripped it takes a motherboard replacement to revert it.
If SF (Secure Folder) is that important to you, stay on a custom rom that has patched SF patched already.
Literally all TWRP/Rom threads warn you of this, always read the whole OP of any thread in the future.
Yeah. Thats what im doing now. Running on doctor ketans rom.
but im little worried now. Because haven't used any custom roms and worried about security issues.
Can we still go back to stock os ? With genuine updates?

Just follow the steps in the thread below. At the bottom of post #2 you can download "samfirm" for you Pc, it will let you download the latest filmware at a decent speed. (once back on stock you should disable OEM lock so your bank app, Netflix etc will work)

Like I said to you above, once Knox is tripped SF won't work, if SF is that important to you stay on a custom rom that has patched SF. If you're worried about security updates use DeluxeRom which has last months security patch.
