Should LineageOS exist for the SM-N910T? If not why not?

LineageOS sounds great but how can we ask developers to build it?

Sadly, a lot of us will realize that the SM-N910 is really not a very good developer phone, and the software stack makes it very clear. Samsung and carriers obsoleted the phone right after the galaxy Note 5, and they don't care about supporting it much anymore. Using the stock OS will open people up to viruses and malware on Android, and that's just harsh.
Don't get it all wrong. It has really excellent hardware, and code exists to put LineageOS (up to Nougat) on to it, but it's difficult to say that unless people can work together to support it officially, I don't really have a lot of confidence that a huge project like that can work solely on willpower in the end.

Don't get it all wrong. Information for UK customers

I noticed that both Germany (upated to 127) and India (face unlock) have had updates but after talking on chat to the UK Honor rep there apparently is no information about any updates/features for UK customers.
Additionally tried to register for club.hihonor.com and the 'Country/Region' selection does not even include the UK at all.
So apparently we're ok to buy them and pay full price same as everyone else, but not ok for the same level of support or customer service.
I'm putting this here because I bought this phone after the positive reviews from many commentators but it's now obvious to me that these commentators don't all do their homework properly and some just concentrate on the product and forget about the other differentiator, which is the after-sales, customer service and support.

I think you just should wait. According to project Treble you should get updates anyway sooner or later.

Yes I'm aware of project treble, but that has absolutely nothing to do with honor, several other android phones support project treble indeed it is a must by google that any device with Oreo out of the box has to support it. The point i was making was particular to honor support not android in general. Additionally project Treble requires you to unlock the BL, OTA updates by manufacturer do not.

Apologies but your quoted project treble so i assumed you were familiar with what that entails. You can read up on it if you need deeper info but what it comes down to is to use project treble you replace your system.img partition and you cannot do that without unlocking your bootloader. A manufacturer provided OTA update is signed and therefore updates your system normally without having to unlock anything just a standard system update. That is why the point is that if honor does not provide updates you have to resort to some custom update which is not the same. Now Honor has already updated both German and Indian honor 9 Lite (read threads here and you'll find reference to that) but UK ones are not even scheduled according to their own customer service who i chatted with. Try and register on club.hihonor.com and you'll discover the UK according to them is not even on the planet since they list most countries except the UK.

As far as I understood Project Treble is more related to the vendor partition. Never ever heard before that you have to unlock the bootloader to get updates from Project Treble. Are you sure about that? Any links?

go here https://forum.xda-developers.com/pr...-development/experimental-phh-treble-t3709659 and search for 'vendor partition' and you'll realise what you say is partially correct. Some vendors integrate the vendor partition inside system.img some have A and B partitions some only have A partition (like ours). You can never overwrite the system partition without unlocking the bootloader because it is set to read only, if it wasn't the whole of the android community would be in a heap of trouble. Imagine users (who don't know what they're doing) gaining access to /system and amending stuff, the result will most likely boot loop or soft/hard brick your device.
Anyway, this is taking us away from the point I was making and apologies but will not be adding anything further, if you do not agree with it that ofcourse is your prerogative.

Im based in the UK also and was going to purchases the 9 Lite but i'll hold off for now. If custom ROMs pick up that may change.

thankyou, I'm already registered on there but I'm afraid it is nowhere as concise as the club.hihonor site. That one has forums; see attached. The UK has very little of interest to us 9HL owners, unless you want a user guide !

Yep had that issue with 6x 7x now 9 lite no UK so can't register and confirm by mobile number as there isn't even the +44 we don't ixist when I contacted UK honor support on Facebook they were very vague when I asked why the honor 7x L21 was not included in the oreo beta program like US, Spain, Germany etc all I got was the UK is not included in the beta program and when I asked why I got no reply, very strange I had more joy from the US support fb page, yet honor sell a lot of devices in the UK yet there after care and firmware support is basically nothing, ps I'm on firmware 127 and no face unlock even my honor 7x never got face unlock even though the Indian and other regions did I even had to manually update my 7x L21 to oreo 8.0 beta still no face ID, they simply just don't like there UK customers I think,

Actions speak louder than words and by its actions to its UK customer base huawei/honor is showing how much it truly values us. Since there is absolutely nothing we can do about it i suggest best course of action is to vote with your feet and next purchase will be anything but a huawei/honor. At least that is still within our control. Huawei/honor give you some great value on hardware side unfortunately evidence shows that doesn't carry over to the software.

Spot on! grate devices but lack of back up lets them down they could be so much bigger and better if worked on

Did they release the update in the end as i just got one and i am on 8.0.0.128(C432) and have face unlock out the box.

i got mine from eglobal delivered to uk and registered as uk user and i have c432 software with face unlock if that helps

I had face unlock and all that jazz however it was the security patch being so old that was my worry.

Which is what mine said till i used the Firmware tool on this site to upgrade from 8.0.0.128 to 8.0.0.131 so now i am on the latest. If you do the same i suggest you use the Full OTA update.
Huawei UK also said that 8.0.0.128 was the latest for the UK as well.

Holding one plus to account

I am starting this thread to keep discussion alive regarding one plus promises to us the Android enthusiast community - these are recent posts from the 6t twrp dev thread in response to @FuNkwizzard claim that one plus really cares about the development community - I have reached out to @FuNkwizzard to speak in pm although haven't heard anything back as yet.

Maybe you could pass on the message to the customer support team who informed me only a couple of days ago 'we do not recommend unlocking bootloader or rooting and as such cannot give you the stock IMG to restore your device to factory settings' - of course I managed to find the fastboot file that I needed courtesy of @mauronofrio but this attitude from the online so called 'customer support team' this runs very contrary to what you are informing us of here which I have no doubt at all that what you are telling us is true. But - if op really wants to win over the Android enthusiast community then someone really needs to make sure that customer services know this!

Well here's an idea, if op really is so committed (grateful - remember humble beginnings with so much support from the Android enthusiast community) - then give recognised developers their devices at the same time that they go into the hands of all the reviewers - they can surely ask them to sign non disclosure agreements in the same way that reviewers are asked to. Let's think about it, why are reviewers devices given to them before release - well it's simple, op is relying on the hype train to grow their brand - the Android enthusiast community is a tiny portion of their sales revenue, thus not that important really no matter what they say - come on Peter Lao and Carl Pei - show us with action that you really care about the Android enthusiast community with action including ensuring that your support team is ready to help us modders just as much as helping the average Joe - how about actually releasing the source code for the BLOB's to give us working HAL's so that we can actually use the hardware we have paid for the way that we want to. I attended the one plus 'open ears' event in London last year and spent the day on a working group with Carl, he seems like a genuinely nice guy, and super committed to his company and it seemed to us the users - my challenge to you Carl and Peter - show us that you are really 'listening' and stay true to where you began with the support you relied on in the early days from the Android enthusiast community by really supporting us rather than just passing lip service.
Now let's see how 'open' op is really and see if this post gets censured (I've kept a copy just in case it does get scrubbed and of course will start a brand new thread with it if need be!)

I gave them my email address, full name, both IMEI numbers - so with all that info one would hope that there is some records somewhere.
Wait, yes, they sent me an email as well and booked in a remote session so that am engineer could flash my device - which was pretty infuriating really as clearly I am more than capable of doing that myself, if they just gave me the IMG file that they were surely going to flash my device with lol.

Of course, you are absolutely right - I had no desire to hijack your development thread, I was simply responding to the claim made by @funkwizard that op really cares about the Android enthusiast community - I will create a new thread in the 6t discussion forum so that this discussion can continue because I believe it is absolutely right to hold op to account. I do hope that op does provide you with a development device as clearly you are a committed dev working to support op community. I for one am very grateful for your work @mauronofrio

Redmi S2 Official Suspended Development

Hey MIUI'ers......
Today, I think I have no words to express the biggest...... What do u call it as......Hmm.... FAILURE OF XIAOMI I guess... Ok, let's go a year or a two back. The time when they launched the great budget camera smartphone- Redmi S2/Y2. This phone overall is a great phone with all the decent entry level specs. From the hardware side, I have no complaints at all. Overall everything was great. BUT, coming to the software, well, that's where the problem began to matter! They provided a 32bit ROM on a 64bit processor! I mean, like for real? Why? What was the matter? Ok, there was a lot of conflict for that issue. Then, it silenced a bit cause we used thought it'll be solved by an OTA update. But guess what? No! Xiaomi claims that their 'users' will lose their valuable data while shifting from a 32bit ROM to 64bit! So, they claimed they won't release the update for 64bit ROM. Well, y'all want our reply for that? Let the data go! We want that 64bit ROM, no matter what! Well ok, even after that, the company promised that they will definitely provide up-to-date software updates, at any cost no matter what! The Android Pie update and the MIUI 11 as well. They promised us users that they will release it before Q1 of the year 2019. We waited for that update eagerly. We were so eager for that update. It was suspended for 1 week. Ok, we'll wait for another. Even the second week. Ok, we'll wait for that next. Even the next, it was suspended. Ok, waiting for the next. And still this continued on and now, Q1 is over and Q2 has begun. And now, Xiaomi claims that they will release it in Q2! And we're like, "WHAT! IS THIS EVEN HAPPENING??? WHAT IS THEIR PROBLEM?" We S2/Y2 users have suffered a lot already. We don't have developers working on our phone at all. We just got few developers and we're grateful for them. All of us. But what did you do huh? All of us don't understand what is the problem with S2/Y2 'cause is a really amazing phone, but that haven't an support.
It's so hard develop a 64-bit rom for a phone that have Snapdragon 625?
It's look like a negligency of Xiaomi...

First, The development is still going on, just that the internal team is ripped. Second, Xiaomi already provided you the right information of this device. While you were buying why don't you ask them is the device came with arm64-v8a or armeabi-v7a?
I'm tired of seeing people post these kind of things because it doesn't even make sense for me.
Xiaomi didn't claim the device come with arm64-v8a. What Xiaomi claim is the device is arm64-v8a capable (64 bit Snapdragon 625)

Are you speaking about custom ROM?
If yes it is simply because Huawei doesn't release any source code and it is hard to unlock bootloader etc so obviously it is really hard for developers to do something with that....

I never understand folks who buy Huawei products expecting rom development. Huawei made their stand awhile ago.
It's simple stuff. Buy pixel, OnePlus, xiaomi etc if you want amazing dev support.

Well you don't limit yourself if you use proper tools like magisk hide

People that want to customise a rom, or even know what is a ROM is potentially maybe, if I am generous, 0.1% of the potential phone market.
Huawei has the best stance, business wise. Why waste time and ressources to release codes for a minority of people that will barely impact your bottom line.
Despite the US ban this year, they are growing 24%, so my guess is they are fairly happy with their current situation, and won't miss 2-3 nerds on XDA wanting to change their phone from the inside out.
