So I just got my new Huawei P10. Installed all of my usual rubbish, then installed a network speed test app. Ran a test while in the same room as the router, connected to my 5Ghz (AC) WiFi (I'm on Virgin UK 200mbps). Maximum 31mbps download. Obviously concerned by this I turned off my WiFi, then turned it back on. Same again, maximum 31mbps download. I then switched to 2.4Ghz to try this. Maximum 7mbps download. I started to realise something wasn't right here. I got my old Moto E 2nd Gen, downloaded the same network speed test app and ran it. Obviously the Moto E 2nd Gen can only connect to 2.4Ghz WiFi. Maximum 40mbps download, about right for an old device like that.
I then performed a hard reset of my Huawei P10, didn't install anything at all except for the network speed test app, and ran it again using both the 5Ghz (AC) and 2.4Ghz. The results were the same, 31mbps maximum download on 5Ghz (AC) and 7mbps download on 2.4Ghz. I've tried restoring the router to factory defaults, I even tested in my brothers home (300mbps Virgin UK) and my daughters home (76mbps PlusNet), and the results were the same. I have no issues with any other devices in my home, just the P10. I'm on EE UK with 60mbps 4G, and running the speed test while connected to 4G gives me the full 60mbps. I've tried several different speed test apps, and the results are always the same.
Clearly there's something not right when the WiFi on an old Motorola out-performs a spanking new Huawei P10. I thought I would check here for solutions first before yelling and screaming at Carphone Warehouse. Any advise would be appreciated, thanks.

P10 slow wifi
Hiya I'm in the same boat. Struggling to reach 30mbps on my new p10 where my iPhone 5 can reach 70+mbps on same network. I'm also struggling to find any answers online. So did you manage to find a solution?
Just tested my P10. I'm on 400/20 Unitymedia in Germany.
Router is in the next Room.
What's your Firmware?
Issue Resolved
Well it's fixed, no thanks to Huawei. It turns out I was several firmware versions behind. I assumed I was on the latest stable firmware version because neither the System Update or HiCare apps were offering an update. It was only after installing the FirmwareFinder that I was able to update from B133 to B175. This is a SIM Free device, surely B175 should have been offered OTA?
Cool! I'm glad you've got it fixed!

How did you manage to get B175? I got the same EE device as you and FF offers me nothing. Still on B171.

I believe B175 is for SIM Free devices only. I have a friend who has an EE branded P10, and he's also only on B171. This is because B171 is the latest version made available by EE. Now looking forward to Oreo and all the problems that may bring :good:
How did you get the patch to install after Downloading it please?
I have the P10 since 2018 and run now on the official Android 9.1.0. The phone olway connect only to 45 Mbps on my 5 Ghz band. Dowvnloads seams not to be affected but uploade speed never get over the 45 Mbps limit. Other devices on the network dont have any speed problems. I noticed this behavior since the Android 9 update and I thinks Huawei intentionaly limits the wifi speed to make you think your device is outdated and make you by another, something like they did with the OIS stablilizer.

Sorry, if this was asked before, I did not find anything.
I have got the problem that a 3G connection frequently stops transferring data. The phone is still connected, but there is no more data transferred to the browser/youtube client et cetera. The only thing that helps is to disconnect and restart the connection.
Is this a known problem with some firmware versions or is my device broken?
i've got the same problem...
what is your provider? mine is o2 germany, maybe its a problem with their network...
also try a radio-update, it got a little better after that for me
maybe you just have poor 3g signal and keep dropping?

It is not a reception problem. My provider is also O2 Germany, but I use a T-Mobile MDA Compact IV with original ROM. Should not make much difference, though.
i just had a closer look at it and i guess it just hapens when the signal changes from 3g to gprs!?
I was also testing in the last minutes
You may be right, but I just had it the other way round from GPRS to 3G.
You say the problem is still there with the most recent radio ROM? Perhaps it can be tweaked somewhere in the registry like the MTU in desktop Windows etc.
i've updated to radio v1.00.25.BS14 an hour ago and untill now there are no problems at all! hope it stays like this...
That's great news, but until now I did not dare updating inofficial ROMs
Do you know which radio ROM is included in the most recent O2 ROM? I guess the upcoming official T-Mobile ROM will have at least the same radio version.
I have been experiencing the same issue with my handset. I had put it down to the network (T-Mobile UK). I will try upgrading to another radio and see if that helps.
Cheers
Aidan

I think this issue might be related to the radio...Ive just started testing the new BS14 radio and found it much better in the UK for holding its signal.....
I think you might want to try a new ROM-Radio
Maybe I have found a solution which does not need a reflash of the device.
I would highly appreciate if you people test it and report whether I am right or not.
The problem seems to occur when the connection is switched between 3G and HSDPA. So I tried to change the HSDPA Category to a lower value, since my provider has got 3.6 Mbit/s maximum anyway.
You do this via the registry key:
HKLM/Drivers/BuiltIn/RIL/HSDPACat
My initial value was 8, which is 7.2 Mbit/s. I changed it to 5 (5 and 6 are both 3.6 MBit/s, don't know the difference, though 5 seems to work better) and had no connection drops since yesterday.
I would be interested in the initial value set in your devices as well as in the maximum speed of your networks and the values it finally works with.
Not sure what HKLM/Drivers/BuiltIn/RIL/HSDPACat change did, but it did not help the stability. Overall here's what happened:
Default value 8 - download 1.8-25Mbit per sec
Changed to 5 - download dropped to ~0.8 - 1Mbit
Changed to 6 - download speeds 1.2 - 1.5 Mbit
The most stable connection seems to be with HSDPACat 6, though is still has problems every once in a while (average ~2 hours). 5 is a least stable for some reason, it could drop a connection anywhere between 5 and 30 minutes (random).
Trying the same changes with HSUPA enabled does not do much of a difference, except for slightly better responsiveness browsing the web (pings go down to ~80ms as compared to ~120ms without HSUPA enabled)
Hello All,
Just got a nexus 6 and went ahead and installed a custom rom (Pure Nexus).
Not sure if its a ROM issue or not (Trying a different rom shortly), but my wifi is terribly slow. I put it next to my amazon fire tablet and ran a speed test multiple times.
Amazon - Avg is 15-20
Nexus is 5-7
I have read some forums that says changing the band helps or forgetting the network and readding but no luck.
Anyone else have any tips before I have to send it back for a new one?

Less than a year. ATT UVerse provided router.
No problems here, I did a 135 down and 50 up on Comcast router
Looks like something with the Rom. I put Chroma on it and now get around 20 down. I do not think its app related as I just restored all using TB.
Going to clean flash pure and try again.
It's not Pure Nexus, but something else. I'm getting 160 down, 12 up (802.11ac) on Pure Nexus. Have you updated your device's baseband to the latest?
Stock ROM, 802.11n, reaching ISP cap of 60/10 on web speed tests.

Found out it was a rogue app that caused it. Thanks for your responses. Can you point me to the latest baseband? I saw the Modem Collection thread here but the latest looks to be for the M preview back on 7/10?
Go to Google's firmware page and download the latest firmware package. Extract the files inside. I believe there will be an additional archive in the firmware package that you can extract that will contain the radio image.
I was having slow WiFi issues too. I updated the firmware on my router and switched the channel and now it flies.
That's not so easy to do when the entire 2.4GHz band is congested with connections, as it is in my area. Simply changing the channel didn't work for me, and I had to get new hardware that supported 5GHz. The gamers and video watchers in the house all appreciated it.
Other phone is same?
my problem previously was the same..i tried it with stock and aosp based roms, then i went to asked my sister to call our isp.. and the technician was able to verify the problems.. it was our internet cable.. they replaced it and it worked back to normal..
I had a similar problem, but only with the 2.4Ghz band, I live in an apartment complex and in Los Angeles so it's even worse. Luckily nobody uses the 5Ghz band so that works fine for me.
Update but found out that the issue is that my wifi slows down when my BT is on. Does not have to be connected, just have to be on...
Another Update is that I found out the combo is...
Wifi Connected + BT on (Does not have to be connected) + RetailMeNot App
I froze RTMN and now there is no slowness.
So the app is the culprit, not the combination of bluetooth and WiFi. Good thing you got it sorted.
Seeing this issue on both my unlocked x4 running latest build (retus - PWWS27.1.3) and my fiance's Android One variant (running latest I assure you, can't get the info from her atm) where our phones will drop from the wifi in the house, and then immediately reconnect as if nothing happened.
Running a Netgear AC2350 r7500v2 with latest firmware (V1.0.3.26) through Verizon FIOS.
A lot of the reports and issues I'm reading about on other sites sound a lot like what the Pixel devices are going through, albeit they seem to be a little more centered around mesh networks, of which I don't have in use.
So pretty much, anyone else having weird issues relating to wifi on 8.0? If it's possible to go back to 7.1 I might give that a shot just to see if it's for sure an Oreo problem or not.
I had the same issue. I had to disable IPv6. I also got the phone replaced, the replacement does the same thing if IPv6 is enabled.
IPV6 on the router end you mean?
**UPDATE** Just checked, not enabled through my router.

Yes on the router. Before I upgraded the replacement, I think the WiFi was working fine. Something might be wrong with the Oreo update.
If you contact Motorola, they will replace it, my replacement didn't come with Oreo.
Motorola knows there's issues with the WiFi, but don't seem to care much. Not just the X4, if you search Google, you'll find some of their other phones with WiFi issues too.

Yuuuuuuup. Been finding a lot of people with the same problems. Instead of digging up old threads, figured it'd be worthwhile to start one here to bring more attention to the problem.
Now to find out if it's possible to get nougat back on...
Hello! So I have a very strange (and annoying) wifi problem with my phone. The signal tends to drop even though it is at moderate strength... For example, I currently have a OnePlus 5t and the XZ2. However, when I walk into a room down the hall from where my router is, my OnePlus still receives a stable wifi connection (although at half speed). My XZ2 ALSO receives the same strength of wifi HOWEVER any time i perform a speed test or start a netflix video or watch youtube, the speed of the wifi on the XZ2 gradually but quickly goes down and then the wifi disconnects which leaves me on data. Autonetwork switch is turned off. This problem has become very annoying as I can no longer stream netflix in bed and I don't want to have to return this phone simply because of this very jank wifi issue. The only time I seem to be able to get a stable wifi connection is when I am in the same room as the router. Every other device in my apartment connects to the router just fine. I have tried rebooting the router and rebooting my phone.
I have also tried software repairing the phone to no avail... Maybe this is just a problem with bad hardware?
May you want to reinstall the system with the newflasher including a fullwipe.
Or may you want to use the H8266 firmware?
I use the German H8266 firmware on my h8296 without WiFi problems.

Use xperifirm from XDA
It will download the firmware for you
The newflasher from XDA will flash it for you
You only need to put the newflasher file into the firmware folder downloaded by xperifirm.
You don't need an unlocked bootloader.
And it will remove your apps, you may want to use Google backup.

I flashed the h8266 usa android 9 firmware and the problem was not fixed... Still same issue. Phone says the connection is pretty good (only one bar missing), then whenever I actually use the internet, speed diminishes and eventually loses connection from the router.
EDIT: it says for some reason the network is "disabled" on my phone
Does it happen with different Wi-Fi's?
Since pi I can't hear Bluetooth audio without stuttering on my old company ThinkPad t440p with Bluetooth 4.0.
While my old ThinkPad t460p with Bluetooth 4.1 is fine.
There wasn't any problems in Oreo.

My router has a 5.0 and 2.4 ghz setting. Both are affected by this issue. The phone doesn't disconnect from other routers I've encountered but its hard to recreate the same circumstances to match the situation of my apartment.
The peculiar thing is that when scanning, the networks still show up. But, for whatever reason, after connecting and using the internet for like, 5 seconds, it would disconnect itself even though the signal is ok (not full but definitely strong enough....). After it disconnects, the network will still show up on the scan and I can reconnect for it to work for 5 more seconds.
EDIT: Also, no other phones are effected by this problem. Not even my roommate's older phone. It is only my XZ2...

Also worth noting that this only happens when there is my bedroom wall in the way. If the phone and the router are in the same room, then everything works perfectly.

Very strange... perhaps it could be an app I have installed? However, none of them should affect the wifi...
Quick update. It does appear to only happen with my router... When the wifi signal is weak on other routers, my phone stays connected. However, when it is on my specific router at home, a moderately strong signal is enough for it to drop.

I just tried that and it didn't work... I'm about ready to give up on this phone to be honest. This is the only device that has this issue in our apartment and we have over 20 devices. It's just weird the phone stays connected until I actually want to use the internet.

Which hardware revision do you own?
Should be on the package.
Did you contact Sony support?
I did it with my Bluetooth pie problem, told them Bluetooth 4.0 is not stable anymore.
How old is your router?
My Fritzbox 7170 and Fritzbox 7490 are working fine.
Did you change the wifi frequency to an unused one?

Maybe you just try to disconnect some devices and try your phone first. The router may not handle so many connections like that.

And yeah I've tried disconnecting devices too.
I have been doing a lot of checking ever since I purchased this unit and finally seen this article come up in my Google News feed. I can't not wait till it gets to the units in North America.

I've downloaded the update to android 11 and since then have had a major issue. My Wi-Fi keeps disconnecting and reconnecting constantly. And so far haven't been able to fix it, there's a lot of guides how to fix but none work. I've tried; forgetting the Wi-Fi, manually disconnecting and reconnecting, reset network data. All to no avail, and I'm the only in my house to experience this issue

Did you receive your update OTA or manual download and install? I just received an OTA but it was just the Jan 1st security patch
sorry about the delay, a couple of days ago (Friday I think, I'm in the UK) there was a notification on my phone saying a new software update was available. I downloaded it without a second thought because it was the phone software update. but since then whenever I connected to the Wi-Fi it would only stay connected for a few seconds. And I'm the only one in my house to have this issue. Just found update I installed (I think), it might've been the TCL UI update v3.0.8BBJ
Have to tried to reset your network settings, both cellular and wifi?
yes, tried that to no avail
Still no update even all the way almost to May for USA unlocked TCL 10L phone. I guess another company that takes their sweet time on updates.
I have received my Android 11 OS update for my 770B unlocked model, about a week ago actually. It is 3.0.8BC8 and if I'm not mistaken it was around 1.3Gb in size.
I just got update 2.0.3C.J.G pushed over the air (700B unlocked model as well) bought recently off Amazon, located in USA.
After installing, it said I had no updates, but if I manually check for updates, it offers my 3.0.8BC8 with Android 11 as well.
Strange, but very happy to be on 11.
Worth noting they took a lot of the TCL related bloat out of the Settings page on the 11 update compared to how it was on 10.
