Hey guys just need to double check some information
Currently using a Google Pixel with Purenexus 7.1.2 and chainfires root.
Tired of waiting for PN 8.0 so going to slflash to stock and was wondering if magisk root would be a downgrade from chainfires as I am a power user

Not a step down at all, I've only had Titanium Backup give me any type of warning about it, but gave me no problems.

Not sure why you think it would be a "downgrade". It give you root, and that root functionality is not significantly any different from SuperSU. Plus, Magisk has a big collection of cool "systemless" modules which can be easily loaded and unloaded.
Each method has its pros and cons. Read up on both, and decide, as it's primarily a personal preference. But personally, I was a longtime SuperSU user, and was hesitant to jump on the Magisk bandwagon. But now that I have, I have yet to go back or even consider it.
The thing is, magisk provides simplicity over SuperSU. Also systemless feature give it ahead start of SuperSU

MagiskSU is based on SU original binaries so isn't a downgrade, its just that if you use Magisk, the su binary u will use will be ajusted for Magisk compatibility.

There are tools to hide super user for banking apps etc. You can try them, maybe it works.

I didn't try any xposed module or app to hide root but it seems that it doesn't work for users who tested that. People talk about "magisk" but i never test this and i don't sure how install it.
Finally i achieve to install magisk and it works perfectly!

Hello guys. I'm tempted to install Magisk on my Zenfone 2 ZE551ML. I have the latest CM13 Nightly + Xposed and I want to ask if Magisk has any problem running alongside these two.
Another question is if I can still use the built in CM13 root.
Thanks for your answers!
Im running on CM 13 (ZenFone 2 Laser ZOOL) stable and it works fine.
The only problem is that with xposed active the safetynet check don't pass. But its just a matter of disabling xposed and rebooting when necessary.
I dont know if the differences are too significant, but hope it helps.

That means Magisk doesn't work with Xposed ? Or I just have to unninstall Xposed and then install again after installing Magisk ?

Magisk itself works perfectly with Xposed installed, only Magisk Hide that doesn't hide Xposed.
So if you don't plan on using any app that checks Safety Net (Pokemon Go, Android Pay, for example) You won't have any problem.

and what about the built in CM13 root ?
I think the newest Magisk auto removes it when you flash it.
But I had manually removed before installing magisk on mine.
But in any case, if I remember correctly you can just remove it thru the SuperSU app before flashing Magisk.

Hello,
Using Z3compact with Xperience Rom v10 (customized latest sony firmware) which is rooted (supersu) and xposeed installed (v83).
I want to ask, how to do it:
1) uninstall supersu app and xposeed app
2) flash magisk
thats all?

Sounds too simple, doesn't it?
That really is all there's to it... You could probably keep your Xposed installation, but there are some nice systemless Xposed modules available for Magisk.
I have seen a few reports of users struggling a little with some Sony devices though, so make sure you have a backup before starting.

Hello everyone !
I will develop a new app like Magisk but very easy to install and manage.
Opened this thread because i am tired of bootloops and rom installs i had and also i am curious how many people are happy with Magisk.
Feek free to post your thoughts here.
I also need a name for this app so please suggesting one will be a good thing.
reserved
reserved 2
Magisk is a pretty amazing app. One stop shopping for many of my Superuser needs. I use it for audio mods anti G-spy stuff and much more. Magisk works great for me but I love having options. Good luck, interested to see were you go with this.
Regards

Hmm... Interesting. Magisk is beast honestly. I was a tried and true SuperSU user and nothing else for years and it took me awhile to make the complete switch to magisk but it's amazing. Not onyl is root reliable, I always pass safety net, and there are tons and tons of modules for magisk which makes it that much better. Development is booming for Magisk and the modules.
1. Are two reserved posts necessary?
2. Magisk is pretty easy to install and manage already. Especially with the number of supported devices.
I'm all for options/competition but why not contribute to Magisk?

For my own curiosity and in the interest of possibly helping to improve Magisk, what kind of issues do you have when updating?

While you're building your app, the recovery log and boot image from from that clean install could be very useful and possibly help make Magisk more robust and compatible with more devices. :good:

I've never had any of these scenarios happen. When I dirty flash ROM with Magisk already installed, I flash over top and everything is same as before dirty flash. If I uninstall, then reinstall, obviously it's a clean setup. I've never had bootloop 9nce I don't think. Your most likely not dirty flashing, thus it is compressing imag over image essentially when trying to uodate. Mgisk says restore stock boot I'm going before updating, which is what dirty flash does. If you would either dirty flash or just flash stock boot image before doing any of the things you've attempted you most likely won't bootloop
Yes. I have encountered alot of situation -bootloop and softbricks- where the culprit is magisk. I eventually thought not to use it but I'm obliged to use it for its quite awesome module mechanism. Thefore, every possiblity that involves magisk with no bootloop is appreciated.
Magisk 16 and Samsung Galaxy S5=Safety Net failed
All is ok only on Magisk stable 15.3

Why build your own app when you can build upon a great foundation that is magisk ? Working as a community.. nothing beats it.

Not really ("halted") and possible but unlikely ("android p"). I appreciate the hubris but think such positive energy would be better invested in collaboration with the Magisk team/community which brings considerable expertise and experience to the table.

Doesn't Cydia Substrate require root? So people would need Magisk anyway? And hasn't Cydia been dead for a long time?
No offense but you seem to like to get people hyped with nothing to show for it so there's going to be some scepticism.

Completely agree
Please someone create a module for full andoid backup including system etc, apps.
For people who don't have TWRP because is not available and no Root access only using Magisk . It will be a great deal and help last rescue. Thank you so much for understanding.

Uhhh if your phone doesn't have root, then you don't have Magisk. So a Magisk mod is useless for you. If you do have root just use titanium backup or similar app to back your apps up and restore them. It can even do system apps.

FlashFire doesn't work on my phone
you can use migrate to backup
Migrate - ROM data backup: 4.0 - Apps on Google Play
after flash your rom and root install Migate flasher and restore without custom recovery
Migrate flasher - Apps on Google Play
...and it works with A12 n A13? On phones with A/B partition? If so, I need to give it another, esp. since the new version...fingers crossed.

I test it on A12 & A13, using emergency restore but it's only useful in backup user and system apps, not full system backup
