Hi,
I just got the Nova Launcher set up on my P10. I tried duplicating the Google Pixel 2 layout, but one thing is annoying me. When pressing the Google search bar that comes with Nova it opens the Google app. I want it to open Chrome instead. When disabling the Google app to try forcing Nova to use Chrome, nothing happens when i press the Google bar. I then contacted Nova support, but they told me "Nova is coded to use whatever your device has set as default. That's not something you can change within Nova itself."
But how can i sett Chrome to default? I just dont get how this works. Does anyone have a solution for this?
I think that is normal. When u use google search bar, the search result will appear in google app. But when u select the search result, it'll open in chrome.

Yes, thats exactly what happens. But i dont want the Google app at i all. Just wish there was some way to connect the search bar to Chrome instead.

I have also tried this but no luck. After some thoughts on the matter I actually don't see the difference in touching the search bar and typing something or touching the Chrome icon and typing something... So I stopped using the search bar at all...

I know what you mean its not something i really miss, but i think it looks more nice with the search bar.
Anyways, it would be much smoother if it didnt actually open the Google app at all, but instead you could type directly into the search bar.

When I make a short cut to maps and when I select it, I am always asked to choose between Latitude and Maps and every time I choose "use by default for this action before selecting maps. But each time I am prompted. This is annoying because I'm using all text icons so I dont want to use the actual official short cut for it. Please help!
That's quite odd; I just tried it on my phone and it worked as would be expected.
How are you creating the shortcut? Dragging-and-dropping the Maps application from the Apps Drawer to the homescreen? Or something else?
I had a similar problem with the phone dialer. After switching to CM6.1, it kept asking if I wanted to use the phone, or open contacts, and it wouldn't remember my selection.
I ended up deleting my existing shortcuts, and adding new ones, but it sounds like you've already tried that...

I just got my galaxy s (captivate the other day), so I'm still new to the interface.
Anyway, some web page was crashing the browser every time, so I decided to try another browser. I found firefox in the app store and sure enough, ff could load the page that kept crashing the default android browser. So, i'd love to set firefox to be the default browser.
Can anyone help me figure out how?

Are you on stock or using a replacement launcher?
And if you click links from apps and stuff it should ask you which you want to use, just tap the check mark and select firefox.
Many thanks for the prompt reply. I'm on rooted stock (that sounds very botanical). You think maybe I need an aftermarket loader? I've seen some mention of app loaders, but don't really know what one is.
I did notice that links to web urls give me the chance to choose a browser. But, I'm also interested in changing the link on the bottom of my homescreen. Will a new launcher help with that?
Thanks for any advice.
LaucherPro is a great launcher... Fast and highly customizable. It will allow to change the icon and shortcut in your dock to FF. You can find it in the market.

I haven't been on the stock launcher for a long time, but I know you can change that icon by pressing 'menu' and selecting edit on the app drawer.
But a new launcher is always recommended, I use launcher pro as well

it doesn't matter what launcher you are using.

you can change the shortcut in the default touchwiz dock as well.......................... open app tray, hit the menu softkey, edit, customizable grid... drag the icons you don't want on the tray off. drag the icons that you want on the tray on. menu key, alphabetical grid (to fix the icons you dragged out), save.
Anyone knows how to remove the annoying Google Search Bar on top of the screen?
I believe I am running a pretty unlocked device after hours playing with adb/TWRP/ROM/Fastboot/etc so if this Search Bar is removable, i should be able to get rid of it with a few pointers!
Thanks in advance!

The steps in the attached picture worked for me. There could be other ways to do it to, but the first answer I got from Google search worked. Just look for "Google app" instead of "search"
You can also install a new "launcher" app from play store.
The "launcher" is the app that gives you all your home pages and app drawer.
No "Google Search" under Apps, I only have the following: App, Keyboard, Play Movies & TV, Play Music, Play Services, Play Store.
Also, a funny looking app called "Launcher3" which seems a little sketchy...

Launcher3 is needed. That is your stock launcher
I put in first post to look for "Google app" instead of "search"
That's the one to disable instead of what is in picture
Hey,
I see lots of people has been asking about google now in there launcher and many people knows that how to solve it without magisk.
There is workaround which i want to share may be it helps somebody.
First you need to install nova launcher prime which you can get like from anywhere just google it and then install a small app called google now companion app which is only supported by nova.
there is also a magisk version available of companion app but it is for those who just dont have root and magisk so by this you can have google now without having google now launcher and you will get google now integrated to the best launcher.
Thank you.
And sorry for bad english.

you just double tap the screen and it goes into google now or you go into settings and put it on a different gesture. as standard swipe down opens evie launcher but i switched that to expand notifications so now it works like the built in launcher, swipe down anywhere to open notifications. you may also want to switch off launch assisstant on home button or use it for something else if you are using gesture navigation as the last thing you need is more ways to launch assisstant lol. you could put the google now on that though then you can swipe up for home and swipe up again for google now.
Exactly. The most valuable real estate on a phone is the home screen because you can go directly to an app with one touch. The second most valuable real estate is the screen to either side of home and if you have a paged dock, the dock to either side. By using a swipe to the feed you wipe out an entire screen of the second most valuable real estate on the phone just to access one app when you can get to that same app by simply tapping a 1X1 icon, using a gesture, etc. I never have figured out why people like the swipe to feed, it wasn't done for us, it was done because Google has research that showed most people will not venture further than one screen left or right of home. Make one of those the feed and they knew they would up their take. In terms of user interfaces it's a straight up loss for users who in no way benefit from the loss of that screen for one app. But whatever.
Lots of launchers have a feed swipe BTW, if you absolutely insist on making your phone less efficient by wasting that screen you don't have to limit yourself to Nova.
I used to use the Google search bar on the home screen to pretty much search contacts, files, and other data on my phone to quickly find anything I need. Now it looks like after updating the Google app, you can only search apps now. I tried to check, settings/personal results to see if the other items where unchecked, but there's only apps now.
Does anyone know why it was removed? It kinda sucks that it's either keeping the Google app out of date and not doing the updates and or keeping Google up to date and loosing this functionality. It was really nice to be able to do that.

It's been a while. Doesn't look like a recent change.
