Notification Pop Ups.. missing on Note 8 - Samsung Galaxy Note 8 Questions and Answers

Notification Pop Ups.. missing on Note 8 SM-N950U1 :crying:
For the life of me I can't figure out how to get Pop Up notifications to show up on screen. When a new item comes it , it just flashes a color but not PopUp I was used to on previous phones.
I tried everything, even booted in safe mode to make sure it wasn't an app causing it.

I use systemtuner ui, it gives you the possibility to manage how notifications are handled, search for it it in the "app themes and mods" subforum

Go to Settings->Display->Edge screen and then toggle "Edge lighting" off:

If you want every time you have a message notification your screen to turn on and see lockscreen with the notification details this isn't working in most of Samsung mobiles.... You have AOD instead....
But if you want this like me you have to use a free 3rd party app from playstore that works perfect with zero battery infect "glimpse notification"....
Just install give permission and ad to "white list" all the apps that you want to wake up your screen when a notification arrives... Don't forget to mark notifications led to work with the app (in app settings)

Default notification head-up doesn't work if you turned on Edge lighting. You can choose either one only.
Edge lighting off - default style notification head-up
Edge lighting on - a small samsung own overlay pop-up will displayed (not the default style) and edge will light up

i use Heads-up Notifications by Simen.codes from playstore

This did not make a difference.. Maybe I turned it off with 3rd party software somehow.. Just didnt know if it's like that by default.
Using Heads-up Notification and so far like it.

Looking for 2 apps.

Hey guys.
I've searched for a couple of hours for 2 apps and can't find them. I ran a search on xda and nothing.
First app:
A battery indicator that i can see in the notification area but does not have a icon on the notification bar. I want to be able to drop down the notification bar and see the status of my battery in percentages. I prefer my notification bar as clean as possible.
Second app:
Power controls in the notification area. I found Quick Settings, but that opens another app to change the settings. I'm looking for a way to activate wifi, bluetooth and so on just by taping something in the notification area.
Thanks.
So, the conclusion is that there are no such apps?
It s only too much.
Quick settings is very impressive. It starts the app from the notification bar, thats right.
But, what would you all switch from the notification bar:
Wifi
APN
Brighness
GPS
Auto Sync
Bluetooth
Airplane Mode
etc...
There are too much options for one notification bar.
I'm thinking that an app like this would let me choose 3-4 toggles. I realize it's impossible to have them all.
Oh, and a toggle does not take a row, instead all the toggles should be on the same row but with separators between them.
OK, I' have to say, that I never found such a programm. Sorry.

So the default power bar widget won't work for you? It's pretty much exactly what you pictured, however a widget.
If you want to choose and have your own order, use beautiful widgets.
Why try and cram this into the notification area? You have 5 desktop screens (more with add-ons and custom ROM's) to put this stuff. Navigation from screen to screen is fast and easy (even if you hate the swipe thing).
Or this even? http://www.cyrket.com/p/android/com.extendedcontrols/
Dunno, just lost as to why I guess.
Yes, you are right, it looks like the power settings widget, but i want it in the notification area to be able to change settings without leaving the current app and stop using the widget. I need the space for other stuff
moved to the Q&A section
What about quickdesk? Kmobs hads mentioned it on twitter couple of times. you can put anything you want even the settings widget and can change it without leaving the app.

Hm, its getting close to what i want. I'll give it a try.
UPDATE: It looks promising but it hijacks the "once press home button" functionality, meaning i can't get home. Uninstalled!

Are you talking about the widget? If yes, its not what i'm looking for. Like i said, both apps need to display something in the notification area, so no widgets and no notification bar icons.

PS: I strongly recommend QuickDesk so go download it.

Wake screen on notification disable

Hello all,
I have noticed that since the last FW update (C432) I cannot locate a setting any longer to disable "wake screen on notification".
I went through each menu item in an attempt to disable it.
Anyone have an idea where this setting has gotten to so I can turn this wake scree off?

So you don't have this option anymore? Mine is still there and I have the latest sw 131, installed it yesterday
It's there in 131. Calls and messages show up normally.

Nope. I have pulse light notification, but the top option is gone since I installed 131(C432)
I got 131 and I still have it on my p20 pro.
Update: for some reason my screenshots are to big so i cannot upload them here :/
Ok.. Figured it out. I had to force stop "themes" and disable. Then reboot and the menu item returned. It was reproducible as well. If I enabled themes and set a different theme, the menu item was gone.

This might seem a stupid question, but I don't know how to set the theme to default!
I came from Samsung to Huawei 2 days ago, and I am struggling with my inability to find things on this phone.
Thank you for your help!

a couple of questions: home screen lock and flashing on calls

Hi guys,
I have this phone from a couple of days.
I have a couple of questions: in the lock screen I see 2 clocks, one from my land (italy) and one from korea. How can I disable the second watch? is it possible?
And then, when I receive a call the flash light flashing like on the iphone. I found the menu and the voice is disabled. I tried some apps that can control the flash, but nothing happened.
Have someone the same problems? any solutions?
and finally there's no option to choose the network, but I think is a common problem.
Thank you very much
I think maybe what you're referring to is the AOD Always On Display not the Lock Screen. To change the dual clocks to a single you need to change your AOD settings. Go to Settings - Display tab - Wallpaper & Theme - AOD tab and touch the far left screen option with the Settings Icon. Select any option but Dual Clocks.

Lastly the flash use to only be controllable in the Accessibility menu. Settings - General - Accessibility - Hearing. But they have added an option for the flash when receiving a phone call under Settings - Sound tab - Flash Alert For Incoming Calls. Interestingly I use this setting but it shows it off under Accessibility settings and still flashes. So it sounds like you were maybe in the Accessibility menu where it shows it off. When you should be in the sound menu where it probably shows it on.

thanks for the answers...I solved for the flashing on incoming calls, but not for the lock screen. It's not the AOD options, but still the lock screen (when you use the double tap on the screen and the image appear, before unlocking the screen I Have two clocks)

Interesting. Assume you tried a different theme with the same result? My lock screen clock is set by the theme I chose it seems.

The theme has been copied from the previous phone (v30); I have an image on the background and an image on the lock screen. Inside the lock screen I have 2 clocks instead of one. I tried to change the theme but nothing happened
so no solutions??

General Lock screen notifications missing

Hi guys
Since I got this phone I have an issue with notifications on lock screen. Sometimes they appear, sometimes not (only lock screen lights up when notification comes...but its not visible). The only way to know which app sent the notification is to either see the icon on Always On Display or unlock the phone and check the app icon "badges" or expand the notification bar.
Any ideas? It happens randomly...sometimes notification from one app work, 30 min later they dont...
Moreover, it happend few times that there was a notification (missing on lock screen) and there was not even a sound - only vibration and lock screen lights up.
To be honest pretty annoying bug.....
I have the same issue - came here hoping for a resolution.

I think i found one....
So for example I have Line application which is similar to WhatsApp but mostly used in Asia.
Basically I noticed that sometimes notifications from Line are under Silent notifications group when you expand the notification bar. A bit of googling and this is Android 11 feature. The thing that helped was to switch ON option Show in conversation section. Android 11 have now 3 groups of notifications...Alerting, Silent and Conversations.

So with mine - i have copied all the settings from my previous phone OP9 pro - everything on that works but on the oppo it doesn't. shows on AOD screen but when you open the phone its only in the status bar. very frustrating but its not specific to WhatsApp but happens a lot on WhatsApp.

I dont think its true. On AOD I have only notification icons - nothing else. And I have global version.
If I go to notification settings for specific app I can choose only: notification drawe, status bar, lock screen, badge.
Can u share screenshot from your settings?

I assumed that battery and date/time are obvious.
In my case I have:
- battery
- date/time or some fancy shape
- notification ICONS. There is NO notification TEXT like u can see on the lock screen.
I dont think that there is any difference in this matter between global and CN version...but I will let others with CN/Global version confirm.it.

I've no notification icons and I don't know where I can activate that feature.
Btw...no matter which AoD Design I choose, in the preview I see notification icons. But only there, not when AoD is active.
Anyway...the AoD seems a little bit buggy. At some point during the night the AoD goes off (yes, the AoD is configured to stay always on). When I wake up and take the phone from the wireless charger the AoD came back. Strange behavior.

Do you have notifications on lock screen/status bar enabled?
yes...both enabled and i see notifications on lock screen/statusbar (from telgram, whatsapp etc.).
ok, today i received an old school sms and what should i say...there was a notification icon in the AoD.
so i think the problem exists somewhere in the app/notification settings. the problem is that the messages app has much less setting options than Telegram or WhatsApp etc..
please...can you post a screenshot of your working notification settings of telegram or whatsapp?
