Hi.
Say I am using whatsapp and click a link which opens in chrome. When I click back button in chrome, it should go to whatsapp. But instead the phone goes to home screen. What is the problem here?
Happened in all apps & all OS. Current OS is Oreo, previous was 7.0, happened there also.
I think that's by design in OxygenOS.
Mine goes back to app, and I'm on OOS ?
Example - I am visiting a website on Chrome. A whatsapp notification pops up fullscreen, I press button. Instead of going back to Chrome, the phone goes back to homescreen!!
I am on 8.0 Oreo. Any help?

That could happen because of several things...
Most common is out of memory or resources, so the os closes previous opened apps, and has nothing to return to.
Also it can be ambigious pointer of the stack, as you reacted on a notification.
The best behaviour for us is not to use back, as that can close an app, but use the other button which will let you select any previous app to return to.

Recently, I've been getting a slight glitch (don't know if that's the proper word) after holding down the home button to view recent apps. After doing it, and pressing the home button to go back to home, I get the pop-up box to select the default home. It seems that every time I view recent apps, it erases the default home... I tried uninstalling home++, which is what I use, using a different home alternative, and the same happens.
Anyone else have this problem?
This might be a simple error on my part.
Edit- I check it to be default, but viewing recent apps seems to erase the default option.
When you press home there should be a box with default box to check. If check then the default or alternative home replacement should now be the default return when going home.
Checking the box doesn't do anything... viewing recent apps erases the default home setting.
Update
I wiped and am still getting the same issue.
I'm running cyanogen latest...
this started happening randomly, and I've tried to find the cause but haven't been able to...
is anyone else having this issue?

Same issue here on two phones I hadn't correlated it to the holding of the home button but I just tested it and that is the problem. This is annoying, I don't have many shared apps between the two phones either to blame.
In any app with a Share button, for example, YouTube, when I press the button to, maybe, share the link in a text message, I instead get taken to the bluetooth menu. If the bluetooth is off when I press the button, I get a pop-up to turn bluetooth on first. In Titanium Backup, I froze the Bluetooth Share app, and the Share button worked fine, but completely disabled bluetooth functionality, so I unfroze it. What's going on?

Are you hitting the button that looks like an open triangle pointing to the left? That should bring up a popup menu with your sharing options.
If that doesn't work, are there any other apps/services that you've frozen? Try unfreezing them and see if that brings the menu back.
Edit: just noticed you said it worked fine when you froze Bluetooth share app. Try going into the properties for that app and clear the details for it.

Just cleared the data and cache. Same issue. It's weird, I've never heard of this problem before and couldn't find anything through Google.
Go to Settings, then apps. In the 3 dots button, select to redefine preferences or something like that.

Is there a way to turn off the google search bar that pops up when you press the home button. Ever since the OTA update this has happened and it's really annoying. I prefer the home button bringing you back to the home screen every time. Is there any way to do this?
Thanks

I have tried everything I know to try to fix it cleared app caches - factory reset - nothing. I know of five gs5 users affected by this - it seems to have happened the week following the 4.4.4 update.
I hate it
I, too, am having this same issue. I can't stand it!! I've tried everything I can think of and nothing fixes it. And, like you, it's been happening since this latest update. They need to fix it or provide us with a way to do it. I was about to reset my phone to factory settings when I saw this thread, and it looks like that won't help either.
I have read on a another website that restarting the device fixes it temporarily - but I have not seen this. Reached out to ATT on twitter, but haven't received any helpful response.
Restarting fixes it for me for a day or so.

Did an update on my google apps and it fixed it temporarily. Now it's back to sucking again...
When hold the button on 4.4.2, greenify comes up as an option, as well as do nothing. hitting this disables the function entirely. I'm not sure if this is an option on 4.4.4, and maybe it's because I have the donate version of greenify.
Edit:Saw on another thread there is an option in the system menu of Wanam to disable the long press entirely and mine is turned off
I think I found the fix. Go to App Manager>All, find Google Search and uninstall updates. Reboot your phone. It worked on my phone. I thinks the latest Google search update is the culprit. Also disable auto update in google play.

thanks
works great !!!
This is compete crap. That update screwed a few things up. Most annoying is this search problem. I tried the above suggestion, but I don't have anything in my app list titled "Google search". Not sure what the deal is. Any suggestions?
S5 on ATT 4.4.4
Edit...Uninstalled the update for the actual Google app and it might have fixed it. The restart was mandatory as it was still acting up even after removing the update.

Thank you, thank you! I thought I was going insane! I installed Dolphin Browser and thought that might have been the culprit but looks like it was a Google update. Uninstalled the updates and now it's not so dang sensitive.

Since the new update my phone has literally been crap. It's slow and lags on every app no matter if I am on wi-fi or my data. I looked through my application manager and could not find google search would it be under something else?
Thank you

If rooted, install wanam xposed module, then change long press home to do nothing. Solved.

When i disable 'Merge tabs and apps' feature in Google Chrome, I find the animation between changing tabs very janky, and at least twice a day the entire device freezes for a few minutes. Even the power button stops working.
It does this on Android 5.1/LMY47D and LMY47I. Using a clean flash of the factory images, completely stock, unrooted.
Anyone else experiencing the same freezing issues in Google Chrome (even the Chrome Beta version does it) when changing tabs?
No out problems when switching here. I prefer the new style tho

Same here with stock and rooted N6. Highly annoying and I think it's because of Chrome. I tried Chrome beta two months ago and the same thing happened then and now few weeks ago when the actual Chrome updated, problems started with it too. It worked just fine with previous version without that "pulldown to refresh" update.
Only thing that helps is by pressing power button 10 sec and force reboot.
I've found if I press the power button, a minute or two later the screen will turn off. I can then launch the camera, immediately go to Recent Apps and swipe away the frozen Chrome app.
Hopefully there will be a fix soon.
Thanks everyone for your info. At least I know its not an issue with me
Also seeing this with brand new Nexus 6, LMY47M. Very frustrating. But I can't stand "Merged tabs and apps" --- makes it way to hard to find all my tabs!

I found an alternative tab switching method in chrome://flags
Enable Accessibility Tab Switcher.
This removes the animation when switching tabs and presents a basic list of tabs. Not perfect as it can be hard to know which tab is which if you have multiple tabs on the same website.
I'm on Lollipop stock for VZW.
Over the past couples days, my back button has started to go to home instead of back about 75% of the time. For example, if I go to a site in Chrome, and hit back to go to the previous site, it instead takes me to the home screen. Or if I open an image in Reddit News, and hit back to go to the post list, it takes me to the home screen. Open a text in Textra, hit back to go to the conversation list, takes me to the home screen.
I can even open the app back up, and it will take me to the last screen that I wanted to go back from. I hit back again and it closes it again! Open it again, closes it. Open it AGAIN, and it will go back to where I want it to go.
This is driving me insane!!! I really don't want to factory reset but I'm afraid I'll have to.
