I had an expensive curved screen protector installed at a Verizon store. I never scratch the screens on my phone's because I keep my phone in my front right pocket with nothing else ever in that pocket.
With the curved screen, with functionality where the curve is, the edge of the screen protectors both get in the way and also tend to accumulate dust and debris around the edges.
Others may feel differently, with the flat screens they were Ok, but in IMHO on these curved screens - in my situation - a total waste of money!
I use wet install protectors, full body no problems as you describe
I use a glass screen protector and have none of your problems, only the dust.
From day one, I've used very cheap curved glass, no more than £2 -£3 a unit sometimes cheaper and no probs.
Can't understand the issues I see on these threads. Minimal dust inbetween top and bottom where case meets glass, that's it.
i have had the note 8 for a few months now and zagg glass came from verizon when i bought it. I have replaced 6 times because they have broken. there is only glue on the edges so first off after a day or two the screen is harder to use because there is a tiny gap inbetween glass and screen usually happens in one corner. Second i break them all the time because the edges get dusty the glue stops sticking and it pops off and breaks. I am going to get my replacement(i dont pay shipping for warranty because it has happened so many times) then I am going to try something else that will stay on. Any suggestions?
I bought my Note 8 used and the previous owner had a TGSP on it. Couldn't tell you brand or how much he paid, only that he had it on since he bought the phone brand new a month prior.
Touch sensitivity was TERRIBLE. I had to push are to type or select things. There's was dust between thr TGSP and the screen, which I didn't think was a big deal, just annoying, until I took thr TGSP off. One speck of "dust" thst was stuck between thr TGSP and thr screen actually etched a small mark in the screen.
It's tiny, but it's there. A wet install screen protector hides it 100%, but it's annoying to have a mark on what is otherwise perfect screen. More annoying that it was caused by a screen protector, which is suppose 9tp prevent scratches.

Have a look on Amazon or EBay. I believe that they're all the same TBH.
I think the trick is in the installation, so instal with the case on, that will help with alignment.
Try this one, had it on for about 6wks straight, no probs, and is a pack of 2.

I bought three Note 8 glass protectors and they were all complete junk (Inskin and some other brand, Can't recall right now). They were so bad that I had to rip them off after 5 min. Touch sensitivity was absolutely horrible, as the adhesive was only around the edges. Been using glass for years before this, so thought they would at least be fine for a bit... but not even close. Whitestone Dome on the way now though. Fingers crossed it does the job as it should.

Yeah were screwed. Ive been using my phone with no screen protector and I have been VERY careful, I even have a flip case from samsung to make sure scratches will be mimized BUT last night when I was cleaning my phone, there were several scratches and 3 tiny holes. With a phones that I have owned, the note 8 is the easiest one to get scratched OR I just got a bad batch
Yeah they use newer Gorilla Glass, iirc... More impact resistant but also less scratch resistant than before.

Still gunk around the edges. Anything between the flip case and the screen when closed pushes the stuff against the screen and rubs it in. I just keep the phone in a front pants pocket with nothing else in that pocket. I go years without a scratch.

As i said, i did tipple protection, just in case.. Suits well(4 me, again)

Take a look at this: im sure, unless u wanna something that isn't there yet, that ull gonna like this:

Hey guys and gals, I have my 5X for a little over a month now and since the day I got it, I installed a tempered glass screen protector on it. At first there were no bubbles/spots, but now I'm starting to notice a little bubble (like it's peeling off) at the top left corner, near the front camera. Was casually talking with a friend about how much we enjoy our 5Xs when he said that his screen protector was coming off from the top left corner as well. He showed me his 5X, with a pretty big "bubble" under the screen protector with the size of a fingertip, again at the top left corner. So I was thinking is it just ours protectors that bad (mine is unbranded chinese for $1 and his is a branded $10-15 one) or just the 5X is unnoticeable uneven and its common to have the screen protector peeling off after months of usage?
P.S. Comming from a Xperia M2, I applied a cheap $1 glass protector 2 years ago and it still as good as new.

Yep. I just removed my screen protector for that reason. It looked ugly. Will go protector less for a while, Try to break the psychological barrier. With Gorilla Glass 3 and above there is no point really for them anyway.
Do you have a case on it? I would guess maybe something else bumped it? I haven't had any problems. Either way they are so cheap, just replace it.
I had a screen protector on it, but I didn't like how it felt, so I've only been using a case now.
Never had this issue with IntelliGlass tempered glass on my 5x.

All depends on how well you applied it. I've had my cheap Pleson on since release back in October.

Tempered glass for me too. Top right corner has very slight peel back. My guess is the screen rolls off very slightly at the corners. Barely more noticeable than a fingerprint smudge so I've let it be. The rest of it is flawless so I'll leave well enough alone.
I agree with going protector-less. On my N4 before this and on my N5x, I only had a regular bumper case. I never had anything beyond a superficial tiny scratch on the N4 towards the end of it's life with me, which was three years. If you're not carrying it somewhere with keys or similar, you'll be fine. If I have to carry it in a bag where something can scratch it, I put it in a lens pouch that I got with my sunglasses.

Its not only for scratch protection but break protection. In theory the tempered glass breaks before the actually display's glass. Kind of like a crumple zone in cars which absorb the force. I've seen videos of people peeling the protector off and it's fine underneath. However, I'm sure with enough force you could possible break both but I haven't seen videos of that.

The screen protector breaks first because it's not Gorilla Glass.
I think it only makes the device heavier.

I dunno. The only time I broke a screen was on the N4 when hiking and climbing over something so that I bend the phone in my back pocket. Or the N5 when i stumbled down the stairs and landed on my ass, nearly breaking the phone in half (again in my back pocket).
There's no reason for protectors, screen is fine as is.
Also, my biggest issue with screen protectors is that they get more oily and more fingerprint smudge than the screen does (depends on manufacturer though... my OnePlus One for example was more oily than screen protectors.)

So in your case, keeping your phone in the back pocket is the issue. LOL. I take having to wipe my screen a little more often (Which I don't think I'm really doing) than having to deal with a cracked display.

I used glass protector, it peeled off from sides and got very smudgy then I replaced it with a cheap plastic one and it gives basic scratch protection while being cleaner than glass one. Secondly the plastic one doesn't peel off like glass protectors. I have ordered Supcase for drop protection.

using a chinese tempered glass for 4 months now.
great condition just like in the first day of applying it.
+ I'm using a silicone shell, chinese noname brand of course
Thanks everyone for the feedback! I will order few 1$ protectors and apply them till i get perfect results
Anyone else not using anything on the screen? Seems to be a shame to cover it...
I haven't used a screen protector on my last 3 devices. V20, Pixel, S8+.. Granted I only have my phones for 1 year max and haven't had any screen issues related to scratching etc.. Just don't see the need for one ..They look like crap in a month or two IMO and just get in the way.
Always put a skinomi screen protector.
If i scratch the sides the sides or back im ok.
But if the screen scratches im stuck looking at that forever. With a protector i can pull it off and get a new one.
So i always put a screen proector on , but might not always use a case.
I have the Ringke slim without a screen protector. i did the same with note 7 and did everything to scratch it while in my pocket, couldn't do it.
I am not using a screen protector. I have not used one on my last 3 phones and have not had any issues with my screens. These screens nowadays are pretty scratch resistant. Unless you are very ruff on your phone. On these curved screens they don't look good. But I always use a case. The slimmest case I can find.

I didn't use one on my Note 3, or this Note 5 and the screens have been just fine like you said, though I try to take care of my stuff so if someone is super abusive to their phone they might still benefit from a screen protector I guess. Compared to the last phone I used one on (Galaxy S3), there are a few tiny micro scratches visible at certain angles but overall not bad and those don't justify the inconvenience of having to deal with a protector in the first place, to me at least.
I always use tempered glass on my phones. One time, I dropped my Note 4 on concrete and it landed face down. The tempered glass was all cracked..but it saved the screen.
Considering all of the trouble to get a decent curved tempered glass screen protector for the Note 8 (most are either crap, cost too much or don't work with cases), I'm seriously considering just putting my Note 8 in the Spigen Slim Armor case and not bothering with a screen protector at all. I've never dropped my phone and always make sure that the pocket with my phone in only contains my phone, so my use case might warrant going without a screen protector.
I took the leap and decided to go with Nano protection this time. I hate using screen protectors for the very reason that it just never looks perfect. I put this on both sides of the phone and was able to use it 5 minutes after installing and it fully cured in 48 hours. My S8 plus was full of hairline scratches after the first few weeks. I'm hoping that I don't have the same result with this liquid protection. I'll give a full review in about a month.

I used that on my Nexus 6 because you could not find a glass protecter that fit right and it worked great. I ordered some for my Note 8. By the way the Nexus 6 was a great phone. I never got tired of using that phone. But I had to get the Note 7. But yes it does work. It is not going to protect like a glass one for drops. But it does protect from scratches.

I can't bring myself to put a screen protector on it yet. I didn't have one on my Note 2 or 3, and they both survived. I'm sure I'll change my tune soon, though. The price tag wad too high to not protect it!

I put it on both sides. I do have a thin case on it. But I do not have a screen protector on. It is not going to protect as good as a screen protector. But for those small scratches it does work. I had it on my Nexus 6 and it worked good. They do have some cheap ones that I would not buy those. Here is the one I got
My worry is using S Pen with Note8. To be honest, I have not used any screen protectors with last few handsets, and I haven't had any issues, but this is my first Note device with S Pen and just wondered if anyone had an issue of dust particles getting caught under S Pen and scratching the screen.
But than again, I may be over thinking as chances of dust getting caught under finger is the same.
Sent from my SM-N950F using Tapatalk
The spen limits you to a glass protector. I have tried damn near every non glass out there and they just don't work with the spen at all. That said, like others have mentioned glass ones for curved screens are hard to find.
Sand...... That's it, the only thing I have found in normal everyday use that cause scratches on the screen. The finer the sand the worse it is. So I do my best to keep sand out and the s7e I use for a year has no scratches.
Will be going naked on the note 8 unless that Whitestone dome really is as good as everybody says.

I've had my Note 8 for 9 days now and while I was thinking about buying a screen protector when it arrived, I must admit that I'm quite impressed by the quality of the screen. It just feels so hard to scratch, so much so that one would probably struggle trying to scratch it even on purpose. I don't really see myself scratching it by accident anytime soon, although I must admit I'm this kind of guy who never drops the phone and handles it with extreme care.
I'm just curious to read what you guys think, maybe somebody persuades me to buy a screen protector after all, who knows.
The Gorilla Glass 5 is more shatter-resistant than previous versions and that means it is softer also. I had my Note 7 only a few days before it started picking up micro scratches on the front and back. Your mileage may vary. I'm putting on a Whitestone done and a skin on the back of mine.
I bought a screen protector but am debating putting it on. I may try it and see how it goes
Many of us do fine with no protection. Others report getting scratches no matter how hard they try not to.
I've always put a protector on my previous phones but I'm using my Note 8 without a screen protector. Like you, I'm always very careful with my phone and never drop it. The pocket that I put my phone in only contains my phone; I never put loose change or key in there. My Spigen Slim Armor case protects most of the phone and keeps the screen off the table surface if I do put it face down. With all of the issues people have had with curved tempered glass screen protectors, it just seems like more hassle than it's worth. The only one I'd get is the Whitestone Dome but that costs $60 here. Bit pricey.
I always run a protectors. Better safe then sorry.
I take very good care of my stuff. If a scratch did happen you cant take it back. So there would be no way ti fit it without buying a no front glass or new phone.
With a protector you can simply remove it and put on another one.
Fwiw, 5 days and i have a scratch, no clue where it came from. Have never used screen protectors, but will now

It's def worth it. On my S8 there was a scratch after few days and I am very careful about my phone so really don't know how it happened.
Same here...it is so minor and you cannot even feel it. Babied it too. Also a small one on the back and it had a case day 1. Something tells me it came like that
Going naked for now. Just watch out for sand, fine sand , seems to be the only thing. If it was a flat screen I would have tempered glass on it.

ANY sharp instrument will scratch if the point is pressed in to the display, period. It is MUCH easier to bang on it with a long blade edge and look like you did nothing than the tip of an x-acto knife. That is what those demos do. Resisting attack across a large area is really what you are seeing. Keys are small like that etc...
Finally, a big part of Gorilla Glass is that it also HIDES or better put doesnt show minor damage as much as other glass. In other words, its there you just don't see it.
I bet a screen for this will be $300-$400. How much is a protector that looks good?
Better safe than sorry. Once it's scratched it would bug the hell out of me. It's a £1000 device.
Throw a screen protector on it. In time, micro-scratches will appear on your screen if you dont!
Note FE, had it on the ironing board (and forgot about it). Folded the ironing board and it very gently slid down it onto the floor face down....very gently....resulted in a 7mm scratch.
Not got one on this yet but it does highlight how pathetically weak GG5 is.
I put one on from iq shield...works great with my ringke wave
Since its a huge pain to find a glass protector that fits and doesn't screw up touch sensitivity I just grabbed the $8 Skinomi wet install protector, works great including with the edge display and S-Pen.
I believe the micro-scratches are not the actual "glass" screen itself. It's the oleophobic coating that we see scratched.

But if it still looks like a scratch....
I personally really don't get the mentality of people who put huges cases and screen protectors on their phones. Most people here are obsessive on having 'the latest' and upgrade yearly when new stuff comes out so they can have the nicest, thinnest, prettiest shiny piece of hardware - Then they go wrap it all up in a thick rubber/plastic case and make it look sh*t. Why buy a device with no bezel if you're gonna put a huge thick case bezel around it!
I've had all my smartphones without cases/screen protectors as that's how they're meant to be and to honest I look after my devices. I usually get 2 year contracts on phones and at the end of 2 years, worst case, a few micro scratches on the screen - That's it. Do these guys bubble wrap their cars? It's a phone, it's designed to be used, it'll get the odd small scratch, just enjoy it for what it is IMO.
I have dropped my Pixel XL and the screen protector cracked but the screen was fine. Same on my Nexus 6. Dropped it on it's face from about 5' and the screen protector cracked all over it but the screen remained crack free. I fell that a glass screen protector takes the abuse of a drop. Granted, I've never dropped a phone with a screen protector so not sure if they would have cracked the screen without a protector but to me, It used to be relatively cheap protection. Some of the better protectors are 40+ now so it's not as easy a decision as it used to be for me.
Didn't believe it when I saw my screen. Fell from my shoulder after a call and landed on the wood floor in my horse. The zagg protector flew off and was about a foot from my phone. It was cracked all over originating in the corner and middle. My actual screen had a crack curving from the left top corner from edge to edge. Well anyone that has these watch out how you drop them. The screen protector won't stay on very well with the edge adhesive protector. Never buying them again. Apparently the defender fails at defending. Had otterbox for many years without any incident. Watch out people.
Damn that sucks. Sorry for your loss. Starting to wonder if even my bulky case with integral protector will do any good if an Otterbox failed you.
Does the Defender also leave the screen proud of the edges of the case?
Those stick on screen protectors do not work well with the edges. All the protectors ive tried that just stick on like that dont stay on for me for more than a week. No the case is higher than the screen. It dropped on the top left corner. The crack goes over the sensors up there. I'm with Verizon and asurion said they were backordered so no replacement. Plus it 200 for replacment
Those sticker PET films that I use are only good for scratches not drops, agreed. hence why I use a leather wallet style case.

Wasn't intentional. But after my friend went through a similar thing with the same setup, I wanted to put out a PSA that got people's attention.
Just dropped mine yesterday. Wearing sweat pants with short pockets, my phone slipped out of my pocket after taking a seat, and fell to the floor, the edge of my N8 hitting the edge of a brick step. Thank God, my phone came out unscathed, with the exception of a broken Whitedome SP, and a slightly chipped 19.99 Official Samsung plastic cover protector.

Bought screen protector from Zagg.. within first week it started cracking ON ITS OWN just from being in my scrubs pocket. Sent that back and tried another thinking it was my fault.. nope the second one cracked on its own. Called verizon and got a credit they them sent me one of theirs and after 2 weeks my screen was full of lint and dirt and would barley stick to screen. I am now convinced anyone with a curved screen just better be extra cautious with their device because it's difficult to keep a screen protector on long... if only other box would .and the full defender case with glass protector attached like they did for previous devices
I bought my Galaxy Note 8 in September 2017. I have a SPECK Presidio Grip military grade case and later got the Otterbox Defender thinking it was the case Since purchasing the ZAGG $49.99 from Verizon in March 2018, I have had 3 screens replaced. 2 within one week's time as it also CRACKED ON ITS OWN! I am very careful with my phone, even went as far as purchasing a Michael KORS phone wallet. I agree with one of the other customers. It must be the curved screen and the Otterbox no longer come with a protective screen over the case.

Mines also cracked with outter box defender ,I will never buy outter again
Sorry for your loss. Might want to consider SPIGEN for your case. Ive been using it for several phones for several years. Ive dropped them several times and the screen never cracked. I also used their tempered glass but I used Whitestone for Notw 8.

Otterbox commuter is still great, but yes I'd stay away from the Defender from now on (due to the hard inner shell design).
This has me worried; I'm using the Whitestone Dome with a standard Caseology case.. I've dropped my phone multiple times and I've had no issues save for the protector lifting on one corner at one point; I was considering a bulkier case- do you guys think it's still worth it?
Received my OTAO Tempered Glass for my Note 8 Today. The Product arrived quickly and was packaged well.
The Package Included : (1) Installation Tray, (1) Glass Protector, (1) Cleaning Cloth, (1) Alcohol Wipe, (1) Sticker for dust/lint removal,
(1) Instruction Card W/Photos, (1) Thank You Card with Contact info for OTAO.
You can purchase them from here : https://www.amazon.com/Tempered-Pro...=1517931940&sr=8-3&keywords=otao+glass+note+8
The un-boxing was fun, was able to lay out everything and see what all came with the product, packaging felt premium and was well tailored to a Note 8 customer. The process to get the tray over device and screen protector on was slightly awkward and honestly if you have a steady hand you could install it without the tray IMO. I used the tray and the protector was installed perfectly center and square so at least there was 0 risk in getting it crooked or anything.
I was really worried about going to full glass protector on a infinity type screen. The curved glass has been hell to cover with anything but liquid glass (that provided 0 real protection) and not interfere with touch / operation.
The screen protector has glue 360* around the glass so there is not any movement or feeling of it being loose or poorly seated. I read other reviews where the glass had become loose or cracked and I can attest that this should NOT be the case. The only way its breaking is a drop or accident that resulted in a good bit of force onto the screen/glass. This protector IS case friendly as well, I tried it with my OtterBox as well as my UAG and neither case lifted or pushed the screen protector in any way!
Overall im really glad I tried the OTAO branded protector, as all the others do NOT have a 360* seal or the ability to work with many cases on the market, and OTAO has both and a really good price!
Check out the photos i took so you can see what to expect! The case in the photos is the UAG Clear Smoked Case btw!
Pros:
Actual Tempered Glass @ a Fair Price ( Under 15$ Shipped )
Has adhesive around the entire glass ( 360 sealed )
Touch response was unaffected / no gaps or air
Cons:
Tray is a little awkward to use, I would say try to do it without if you feel comfortable.
Adhesive around edges seems to be grabbing some lint / hair over time, kinda annoying
Screen has "Dot Matrix" and is slightly visible and certain angles.

I had one like this, another brand, it broke easy. So my question is, did you break it yet?
Mine popped off in 3 days

I did not break it, i had it on my device for 30 days, it was really a decent glass protector, but like me2151 said i did notice the adhesive wasnt nearly as strong as i would have liked.
Otherwise it was a nice all glass protector.
I did not like i could see the dot matrix, and the installer tray was garbage.
Otherwise at the cheaper price compared to the white dome, and seeing people complain about it at 60$ + , its worth the investment for a cheaper one that may last 1/4 of the time but be easily replaced and nearly 1/6 the cost.
I'm on my second one. Not because it broke, but because it popped off when I dropped my note and I got dust beneath. Finally changed it yesterday after weeks with the dust. I know I prolly have micro scratches. I really like this one. But, oh well...
Interesting thoughts.
I am getting a new Note 8 tomorrow and this is in my shopping cart. I have been wondering about this as I have heard traditional screen protectors don't work well on the rounded glass.
