Project Treble for Mix 2 - Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 Guides, News, & Discussion

So as most of you probably are aware of the OnePlus fans made a petition for Project Treble but they got the response that they didn't have a partition for it. We on the other hand have the /cust partition.
Therefore we have made a petition for Project Treble

Signed, thanks for sharing

Signed!

Very good initiative! Signed.
Could you elaborate what it would mean for development of Mi Mix 2 ROMs, kernels etc in OP? You'll get more people to sign it that way.

lol

Project treble will provide fast updates via Google because the changes made from vendor are separated and applied over the running OS in a way with kinda 2 different partitions
In theory xiaomi could give the sources for that and now everyone can compile stock Android os and flip the part of vendor they want to.
So yeah it could increase the availability of custom ROMs but also it's stability due to more openess (for Google in its first place ).
Am I right?
Let's all hope.
If thats not gonna happen, for my next phone (whenever that's gonna come) I'll make sure the vendor supports project treble
Cheers

Signed with multiple exclamation marks, lol

I've signed petition I'm planning to buy this device. Getting treble support will be game changer...

In Terms Of Custom Roms & Kernels What Can We Expect ?

Is this influenced by Project Treble ?
You'll be able to run a stock rom via treble just like you can with the p10/mate10. That said, why would you want to? The camera will be straight trash on a custom rom.

It depends on what you take from this question:
1) Custom ROM based on EMUI, or
2) Custom ROam built from source.
If the P10 or Mate 10 series is anything to go by, there won't be many if any options of EMUI based customised ROMs. However, with the work that PHH is doing, he has stated earlier today (to a question of mine) that he will be looking to have his treble builds support the P20 Pro.
On Source built custom ROMs, you might loose things like the camera however there is also a potential that this could be ported over. Again, PHH has done some work to port over the Huawei camera to the Mate 10 etc but he also said he wouldn't be looking at this for the P20 Pro. Might be that we have to hope for someone else to try this task, I know I don't have the skill set for it.
Treble will definitely make it easier. However, it would still be helpful to get kernel sources released in a timely manner and encourage Devs to get this device / encourage Huawei to give devices to know quality developers.
In the meantime I would ask that people tweet or otherwise get in contact with Huawei to release kernel sources ASAP.

Expect nothing. Sell that crap and buy Nokia 3310. There is latest CM for it every day.
I'm not too concerned about a full custom ROM to be honest. Root is my main concern for minor tweaks and ad blocking etc

- How does PHH's builds differ usually from Stock EMUI ?
Hopefully there will be a kernel or two being developed with any luck ?

Because there is little rom development for this device?

Greetings Friends,
I have seen very little development or developers for this device is very rare because the A1 before releasing the Kernel already had development, and this device was already released the kernel but I still see little development.
Yeah i dunno why developers not intrested in this device
How long ago did they start selling these devices?

Longer than A1 when it takes first customs
Before Launching the source code of the A1 Kernel and there were ROMS and Magisk modules for this phone, the participation is very minimal, I think they were all for the RN5.
I just hope developers will have a look at Mi A2. Is it too early to expect development?

Lineage for the A1 started 6 months after the release.
edit: Also the Pie update is near so probably nobody wants to waste time on bringing up a 8.1. based rom.
Another thing is that it has Treble GSI A/B support, so you can install a variety of already popular roms right off the bat. I know a custom kernel is under development that has both overclock and underclock as well. I am currently using the Arrow GSI rom and it works very well. I have xposed and root, I also get way better battery life than with the stock rom. The only bug I have is the front flashlight turns on when I use the front camera. You can flash any of the A/B roms on this site if you want more roms.
It even includes Pie roms and lineage os. I see no reason devs would want to spend time making something that already exists.
They will most likely work on kernel development/tweaks to fix bugs in the already existing treble roms, like the camera bug in the rom I am using.

ROM ..why not for miA2

I have been looking for great custom ROMs but I haven't found except pixel experience that's too unofficial for Mi A2....I don't understand that why talented developers are not considering this device...hope n wish I can see n install great ROMs from great developers community...wish n request developers to initiate it...
I guess because it's an Android One phone, most users (myself included) already got what they wanted.
Previous years Mi A1 got many roms/kernels. But it took some months because of the A/B partition. This years Mi A2 should get everything like official TWRP recovery, official supported custom roms, kernels etc. Just we have to wait. That's it. Developers are trying.

I would love to develop ROMs like I did with my previous phones, but since the Mi A2 community keeps "demanding" developers to step up and develop them free roms, I'm not going to. I'll probably develop one for myself and if someone wants it, I'll charge for it.
Cheers.
Instead of begging dev to make rom for this device, why not you visit project treble thread
https://forum.xda-developers.com/project-treble .. since a2 has project treble support so why not you try something from there... plus, please give devs some donation for their hard work, appreciate their efforts... and try to not begging them to do something..
Are you a developer.....well idk....tell me in which language requesting is begging....you don't need to develop any ROMs.i will not use even you put it for free...you are mannerless...learn some basics ...arrogance leads to destruction....peace...
Any ways thanks for the link...

Ending my support

Guys i am officially ending support to the axon 10 pro, I have upgraded to a samsung s20fe 5g, i will no longer be maintaining any of my roms, it has been a blast, and i have learned a lot, it was a pleasure giving this community some awesome roms, the last few weeks i tried to build a a11 rom, a lot of the sources arnt able to compile, the one that would work in theory the best for us would be havoc OS since they still support los fod 1.0 , i wanted to go out with a bang but seems like that wont happen, i hope someone else pick ups where i left of, if there enough interest i can post a basic guide with the build bot script i use to build Sgsi, i wish you all the best of luck.
Stay awesome people
Rafyvitto out.

I'm no longer on 10 pro, but let me say one milion thanks for all you did for this device, you made this phone better.

Thank you for the hard work. I would like to take on the challenge but I am busy with university and have no experience in messing with roms. However, I do want to know if its possible to be able to update the security patch and if so, I would like to learn how. If that can be done, I wouldn't mind keeping up with the security patches.

Hi Rafyvitto,
Do you think there is a chance to get A11 working on the A10pro?
Would be great if any developer will work on the ZTE phone.
Or is it possible to flash any GSI out there which is available since the device supports treble?
Thanks in advance.

Sorry for the late reply, to be honest im unsure that our old android 9 vendor(los16) can boot anything past android 10, i tried some android 11 gsi's way back when they started coming out none worked, our vendor probably would need to be messed with to boot android 11, im currently on a locked bootloader device so ive been out of the scene for a while, check phh telegram channels and see if people have booted a11 with android 9 vendor/kernels, sorry i cant help further than this.
Also: If they do manage to boot, fingerprint reader will be broken, among other things, like i said our vendor would need to be fix for a11.

Hi Rafyvitto,
since A11 is out for our A10pro - do you think it will possible to work on A11 custom roms?
All the best
Luc

Question Why are there so few official custom roms on this highly sold model?

I don't understand
Have you looked at the Telegram group? A lot of development seems to bypass xda these days. That slightly worries me as the ROMs are all unofficial and I'm always worried what might get added - surprising we don't get ROM based malware more often. At least here reputation is long term so that seems less of a risk.

Yes, I'm up to date on telegram, that's why I ask, they are all unofficial custom roms or ports and I don't understand why no dev team works on official roms

I wish I knew - staying on MIUI until there's something official, ideally crDroid, Lineage or similar long term projects.
To avoid any errors of judgement:
Official ROM maintainers are not supposed to make changes to the source. So, they are not likely to fix any bug which is related to the source. Meanwhile, unofficial ROM maintainers are not having any restrictions. They are free to make any changes to the source to suit their needs. So, the unofficial maintainers often fix source-related bugs before the official one.

That's how I understand it, and having that level of code review in the official builds is what almost guarantees you can trust a ROM with your banking etc. I haven't actually heard of any unofficial ROM being naughty, but there's nothing to stop it.

For having used with several devices, several official or unofficial roms over several years, I have never had a problem with banking apps (for those who support them, of course).
Note that when there are no more brand updates, the developers are obliged to modify the source to continue to develop the rom.
XDA is a trustworthy source, for others I don't know.
And following that explanation...why are there other low-priced xiaomi models and also old models that have many official roms here on xda? I am very concerned that we have many unofficial aosp roms on telegram and here on xda absolutely none. Why do the devs of this model never publish on xda and other xiaomi models do? That doesn't give me confidence and I still don't understand

Xiaomi 11T Pro codename vili Kernel is still stuck on Android 11 meanwhile we are expecting Android 13 soon.
Many devices are missing there and also lack of kernel update.
