Just wondering if anyone has figured out a way / custom firmware for the Google Home Mini that enables tapping on the top for the Google Home Mini.
I know google has the long press on side on the preview channel right now but tapping on the top would be so much more convenient
I came here looking for the same thing.... hope we see some cool development for these things soon...

I'm sorry if this has been asked before or if I'm in the wrong section. I couldn't find any threads regarding this for the HTC One, but then again the search function seems to act a bit dodgy for me at the moment.
Anyway, I'm looking for a way to modify what long-pressing the home button does. I'm currently running on InsertCoin 3.0-14 with ElementalX as kernel (4.2 if I'm not mistaken).
Ideally, I want the long-press of home to show the recent apps rather than google now. I never use Google now, and I often use recent apps. Double tapping the home button is nowhere near as easy as long-pressing the home button for me, it also feels way more intuitive.
Has anyone had any luck doing this? I do recall this is possible in other launchers, but I prefer using Sense as I like the look and feel of it.
Hey all,
I'm coming from 2 previous Androids that had the 'Search' hardkey on the phone. I really liked it, esp when used in context in certain apps like Spotify (to filter in Spotify, seems like I have to scroll up 700 songs in my Playlist until the Filter area shows up instead of just pressing the Search key like how i did be4).
Is there any way that I can get rid of the 'Recent Apps' hardkey, and reroute it to 'Search'/Filter.
I see Turbo isn't rooted yet, so guessing I'd need a non-root app solution?
I think I tried one app 'All in One Gestures', and tried to re-route single or long tap on the 'Recent Apps' key to instead 'Search', but that didn't work way I expected it to (it only goes to the Google Now Search webpage, and not the context of pressing Search within an app [and not leaving the app]).
Any ideas?,
Arian
Thanks in advance
Almost positive this cant be done without root.
Darn, I'd also settle for an app that does gestures... so a gesture that triggers what the non-existent Search hardkey would have done. Not sure if thats possible without root.
I miss the search button too
I used to have the Evo 4G and loved the search button too. I was disappointed when (I believe) ICS phased it out and switched to the three button approach. While it won't search within apps, you can launch Google Now from anywhere by swiping up from the home button. In my experience, it's pretty finicky with the Turbo's capacitive buttons though.
Swipe Home Button
There's an app Called Swipe Home Button. It lets you do gestures to activate certain features. OP should look into it, it may be what you're looking for.
If you long press the home button, you'll get the Google search swiping up... Or what I use is nova launcher and a double tap gesture to search.
Hope this helps.
Hi Everyone,
I am using HTC One (M7) unrooted that was recently upgraded to Android Lollipop 5.0.2 and I started noticing a black button with three white dots appearing on my screen when I enter certain apps. Tapping it would just toggle the settings menu in the app. Double tapping it wouldn't do anything. Press hold would enable me to move the button to anywhere I like on the screen.
I have no use for it since I have it set up from my Settings that I would open the settings menu by long pressing my Home button. Does anyone also know of this, and if so, how do I remove it? I attached a screen shot for your reference (look at top right corner). Thanks in advance!
I'm interested in finding a solution to this too. No luck in the default.xml, at least for search terms "overflow" and "menu". MaximusHD 52.0, 5.0.2
Confirming this is really annoying & I'd like to know if there is a way to get rid of it?
Hi, I've got the same with galaxy s6 edge and android 5.0.2
It seems that only apps without direct implementation of the android three dots menu have this problem.
Could somebody help please ?
floating button
Same here. Irritating whilst using Mobo Player
The only way you are gonna get rid of it is to hide it in the app itself. With less and less phone with buttons the more you will see this.
Solution
I found myself frustrated at this myself today.
The solution is to go to Settings > Display > Buttons > Home and change "press and hold" from Google Now to Menu.
That removes the button from all apps, and you can just hold the home button to access the menu for those apps that need it.
Does anyone know if Google just completely axed the Google now swipe up nav ring thing? I really miss this functionality and seems like now all I can do is old home button down to access now on tap, then hit the Google now button to get into now app.
Swipe up works to get to Google Now. There is no ring now. Just straight to Google now. On Tap hasn't even been implemented yet as far as I know.

Are you on the latest M preview? Swiping up does nothing for me, only holding down works. That simply brings up now on tap screen which isn't implemented yet so it only has a clickable button to take you to Google now lol...
I can't swipe up, just hold the home button to activate Google Now. Still annoying the on tap thing comes up first
So I updated to Pie today since Verizon finally got the ota live.
But I have found 2 main things I dont like. The biggest one is the apps that appear under the close all button when viewing your recent apps (see pic). Is there a way to remove those? Also the action if swiping up to close an app not something I'm fond of but could get used to
Next is the clock. Is there a way to move it back to the right hand corner? Makes no sense why they moved it to the left side.
I've searched through the settings and went through everything but didn't see anything to solve either of these things. Is this possible or do I just need to get used to it because its there to stay?
I haven't seen any fixes for the recents panel, but Goodlock can move the clock.

The common theory is that the clock was moved to the left in order to accommodate phones with notches.
Here's more detail.

Open recents and look at top right side, there is 3 dots menu, press it and go to settings, turn off recommended apps - this will remove the apps below the recent apps cards. For the second clock part, good lock 2019 can move the clock. It's from samsung, on the samsung store for some countries. If it's not, then you need to sideload it as your country is not in the whitelist. It's 10 apks isntall + small program to access the modules called nice lock (from playstore) that is developed by fellow xda senior member. There are enough materials on the web for good lock 2019 and how to side load it. There also you can change the recent menu style + return some of the multitasking abilities and whatnot.
