After following the process below you will be able to start a natural language dialog with Google Home or Google Mini to send text messages to any contact (see video demo).
***Updated 1/1/2018*** Added troubleshooting section below to address the issue where AutoVoice ends the dialog prematurely. Also, added Step 7 to Part 3 of the instructions to make certain that, once the setup is complete, Tasker is synced with Dialogflow.com.
Video Demo
Learn more about AutoVoice here.
Requirements:
- Tasker
- AutoVoice BETA (Full Paid Version + Monthly Subscription to Natural Language feature $.99/month)
- AutoContacts BETA
Part 1.
1. Download and install the Tasker, AutoVoice BETA, and AutoContacts BETA apps. Also download the AutoVoice_Text_Messaging.prf.xml and AutoVoice.zip.
Part 2.
1. Go to Dialogflow.com and sign up for free using the same Google account used for your Google Home.
2. Click on "Create Agent."
3. Enter the Agent Name as AutoVoice and click on "Create."
4. Once the agent is created click on the gear icon in the top left corner then go to the "Export and Import" tab.
5. Select "Restore Zip" and restore the AutoVoice.zip file from Step 1.
6. Take note of the "Client access token" and the "Developer access token." You will make use of this info in the next step.
***Make Certain that you have received the AutoVoice and AutoContacts BETA updates from the Play Store before continuing!***
Part 3.
1. Open the AutoVoice app and grant all permissions.
2. From the main menu select "Natural Language" then "Setup Natural Language." Next, insert the Client access and Developer access tokens from Dialogflow.com and press "Accept."
3. From the apps Natural Language menu select "Commands" and toggle On the "Use For Google Assistant/Alexa" toggle switch. Log-in using your Google account when prompted and set-up your subscription for the Natural Language feature. Back out to exit AutoVoice.
4. Link Google Home to AutoVoice. See video: https://youtu.be/KaCQMjPllno
5. Open AutoContacts, grant all permissions and allow it to load your contacts (I recommend that you upgrade to the full, paid version or you will only have access to a limited number of contacts).
6. Next, place the AutoVoice_Text_Messaging.prf.xml file from Step 1 into the Tasker/profiles folder (if these folders do not exist then create them). Open Tasker, long-press "Profiles," select "Import," then import the xml file. Back-out of Tasker to save the profile.
7. Open the AutoVoice app again, go to "Natural Language," select "Commands," then toggle the "Use For Google Assistant/Alexa" toggle switch off and on in order to sync Tasker with Dialogflow.com.
Last, create the following shortcut in the Home app. To begin the text messaging dialog say "Ok Google, send a message." Or, you can also say "Ok Google, ask AutoVoice to send a message." Enjoy!
Troubleshooting:
- Users are reporting that AutoVoice may end the dialog prematurely. If that happens open the AutoVoice app, select "Natural Language" then "Commands." Select the applicable command where the dialog ends prematurely and select "Toggle Finish Assistant Conversation." Note: the only command that should finish the conversation is "answer-send."
So I set this all up and it seems to work. But how do I phrase the text of the message and assign it to a contact?
After I say "Hey google send a message" Google Home replies with "Sure heres autovice", then autovice says "command sent send a message"

It sounds like AutoVoice is not recognizing the Dialogflow agent. Try opening the AutoVoice app, select Natural Language, then Commands, then toggle off and on the "Use for Google Assistant/Alexa" toggle switch. That should solve it.

Google home mini stop to repond at the end of task
Thanks for this profile. Google home mini is responding up to the command, what should i message. Then it is dead. I have tried several times but got stuck in that step. If it works then it is great.
Thank you
Not Able To Get It Working
I have set everything up and checked several times and I have 2 problems. I have signed up to be a beta tester with autocontacts and am not getting the beta version update. The second problem is that I have a message on my phone that says " Tasker no active profiles" Thanks

Can this work with a shortcut style command?
Our car is parked in a valet garage that uses SMS to tell them when you need your car. I want to be able to say "hey Google, we need the car" and have a text with a specific number string (our car's ID number) sent to a phone number. Without having to spell out the message or who it should be sent to.
Thanks!

New update for google voice!! It includes (I think) push notification for text messages!
Yeah it does. Read more here: http://googlevoiceblog.blogspot.com/2010/03/faster-google-voice-experience-on.html
Yep, sure looks that way. I wonder if it's necessary to put Google Voice on ignore list for task killer apps though.

Yes it is. If you kill the GV process, you won't receive notifications.
Advanced Task Manager has "Apps", "Services", "All Apps", and "System". I think it's OK to kill it from "Apps", but not the other tabs.
I don't seem to get push notifications on my voicemail. I haven't check with texts yet....

You may have already done this, but it case you haven't, there's a new setting that has to be enabled for the instant notifications to work.

Same here. I had to go to my backup file in oder to use it. Thank Goodness for Back-Ups
Same here. I was, however, able to sign in after selecting "sign in using a different account" and using my same account info.
I love this update because of the sync with inbox. When I first finished installing the update I couldn't send a sms or do the sync so I just rebooted, ran fix_permissions, and that fixed everything!
The google blog post said the inbox syncing would stop the forwarding of a google voice SMS to the phone's regular SMS number. That is NOT the case for me. I'm still getting google voice SMS'es forwarded to my cell's number. This double text receiving is the single greatest aggravation of google voice texting.

That worked....but the weird thing is I don't have inbox sync as a new option. I still have the refresh option, but it says that it's the new version. I'll try to uninstall and reboot.
edit: Still no new options.
Guys, am I alone in this? The new Voice app is not syncing/pushing texts for me, nor is it not forwarding. It's behaving like the old one.

You don't understand how Voice forwarding works. The "forwarding" setting on the Voice website is for additional forwarding of a text to an email address. Voice by default has always forwarded to the cell phone number associated with the Voice account. That was supposed to end with this update.
The Google blog post says the following:
"...feature called Inbox synchronization, which will notify your Android-powered device of new text messages or voicemails within seconds of receiving new messages..."
and
"Plus, Google Voice will automatically disable SMS forwarding to your mobile phone, so you won’t receive duplicate notifications."
It's odd to me that both these features do not work. Maybe we can figure out something by discussing.
btw, why is this whining? We're discussing an app and its features. We're trying to get this working and comparing notes with others. I don't whine... ever. We're blessed to have such amazing phones and software to begin with.
Anyone have a recommendation for sending sms messages over wifi?

well crap, i think i replied in the wrong thread.. doohhh.. hahaha
anywho, go to your contacts, click on their pic you should see a slew of icons, one of which should be a google voice bubble (a bubble with a phone in it) click on it, and then pick which number you'd like to send a text to .. It may ask you which program you'd like to use, but i can't remember..
I can't speak for everyone else, but I had an update for GV in the market and after the update I went thru login process and SMS worked

Bummer. I don't see that icon on any of my contacts. Poop.
I'll try installing it again tonight. I'm going to flash Vegan B3... I think. Running TnT 2.2 now. Maybe it's an issue with that ROM.
Re-install for success
I was having no success with GV and then I went on the app market and install it from there and now I can send SMS messages from my Google Voice account. Running TnT-Lite 2.2.1
I posted this problem as well on the voice thread on general theme.
I installed .3 google voice. I got to the final set up screen where it wants to verify my phone number. When I hit next, it says "We have a problem, your phone number could not be verified. please try again"
When it asked for my user name and password, I put in the email address and pass word that is linked to google account that I set up google voice with (it is not a gmail account, but a yahoo email address) I can access it fine from google.com/voice by putting in those same credentials, but when i go through setup on the tablet and it comes to the part about verifying the phone number, I get the we have a problem screen
What can I do different?
Thanks

I originally tried the one from market and it FC each time I tried to run it. I removed it with the remove applications removal tool in settings and installed this otherone. It loads, opens and allows me to put in my email address and password associated with my only google voice account, but it stops on the phone number verification process.
Thanks for your help
EDIT: Just tried again to install from market. This time when it gets to verify phone number, instead of the error popping up, it gives me a FC... the same as when I tried it before.
Try signing up for google voice on a pc or via the web first. Use any phone number that you have access to immediately to verify the number then simply install google voice from the market. It should just work. Skip the part about cell phone voicemail if asked.
Still no luck on my end. I un-installed the update (in settings), then wiped and un-installed via Titanium Backup, then rebooted. After boot I downloaded and installed from the market. Went through the setup process. Rebooted again. Still no option to SMS when I click on a contact picture. Ideas?

I've been using textPlus. Works pretty good!
Can you get to the google voice inbox? If so, press menu and select compose. start typing the name and then pick the persons name and cell and send txt that way. If you can't get the inbox then you have some other problem.
Do you have the google voice configured with a mobile number? Maybe that is it.

View attachment 3780419Hello everyone,
I am going to provide a basic profile set up to send scheduled Whatsapp messages via Tasker
Apps required:
1. Whatsapp.
2. Tasker.
3. WhatsTasker.
4. Notification listener (free version)
5. Calendar Snooze.
Basic theory:
I enter an event (Vicky>Happy Birthday) as a reminder without the brackets-> when the reminder is fired by the Calendar Snoooze app-> it is detected by the Notification Listener app-> as the event conatins the variable (>) without brackets, the entire (Vicky>Happy Birthday) without brackets is split up into (Vicky) and (Happy Birthday) without brackets. The (Vicky) without brackets is the exact name in the Whatsapp contact list to whom the message (Happy Birthday) will be send to.
Ex: You want to send your pal Vicky on your Whatsapp contact a message Thanks, then your event will be Vicky>Thanks. Time settings dont matter.
Please note:
1. Calendar snooze app is optional: I use it for firing my reminder events. You can choose any other reminder app you are using provided you make the necessary changes in the Notfication listener app setting: you just have to replace Calendar snooze app with whatever app you are using to fire reminders.
2. You can play with the settings to make it optimal for your use.
3. I have added the entire project as an XML file for download as well as WhatsTasker, Notification Listener (free version) and Calnedar Snooze app as attachments. You can also download them from playstore (maybe WhatsTasker has been removed from playstore).
Thank you.

Ok, So here is how I will use Tasker to schedule messages without using WhatsTasker. You will need an additional app: Autoapps [https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.joaomgcd.autocontacts&hl=en]. You can fine tune it as per your needs. I have attached the project XML.

OK, I reïnstalled the XML file and the whole process is working, but only when the phone is in active state...
As soon as the phone is inactive, then the process stops at WhatsApp and isn't sending the message..
ok, it's weird, what do you mean by inactive?
If you mean inactive is lockscreen on, then you should add a task where you add an lockscreen unlock task.

After installing these profiles GH will announce incoming calls and read incoming text messages including the name of the caller/sender or ph#.
Auto-Read Incoming Text Messages Demo
1. Download and install Tasker and download and sign up for AutoCast BETA (you will need the full paid version). Also download Announce_Incoming_Calls.prf.xml and Auto_Read_Message.prf.xml
2. Once you have received the AutoCast BETA update via the Play Store, open the app, select "Manage Cast Devices," press +, then select your Google Home.
3. Place the xml files from Step 1 into the Tasker/profiles folder (if these folders does not exist then create them). Open Tasker, long-press "Profiles," select "Import," then import the xml files.
4. Back-out of Tasker to save the profiles. Done!
Google Home will now automatically announce incoming calls and auto-read incoming text messages using your phone's preferred TTS engine (you can disable by setting your phone to silent). Enjoy!
**Important**
- GH must be connected to the same wifi network as your phone.
- Turn off battery optimization for Tasker and AutoCast or your device may disable these apps when idle.

2. Once you have received the AutoNotifications BETA update via the Play Store open the app, grant all permissions, press "Enable Notification Intercept" and grant notification access. Leave all other default settings and exit AutoNotifications.
3. Once you have received the AutoCast BETA update from the play store open the app, grant all permissions, select "Manage Cast Devices," then press + to add your Google Home then exit the app.
Part 2.
1. Place the Notifications.prf.xml file in your device’s Tasker/profiles folder (if these folders do not exist then create them).
2. Open Tasker and long-press “Profiles,” then select “Import” and import the xml file from Part 1.
3. Back-out of Tasker to save the profile. Done!
You can customize your list of apps to announce by pressing the "Notifications" profile in Tasker to expand the profile, then press "AutoNotification Intercept Event...", then the pencil to configure. Press "Apps" to select your apps. Google Home will now announce incoming notifications including the name of the app and subject line (you can disable by placing your phone on silent). Enjoy!
Tip: include the Google App in your selected apps to hear your Google reminders on GH.
**Important**
- GH must be connected to the same wifi network as your phone in order to announce the notification.
- Turn off battery optimization for Tasker, AutoNotifications, AutoCast or your device may disable these apps when idle.

Instead of Silent to prevent any notification announcements, can I change it to Do Not Disturb instead? Would changing %SILENT ~ off to %DO NOT DISTURB ~ off work?

I haven't tried that but it sounds like it should work.

Yes, it does work, but it's not that straight forward. I've attempted many trial and errors and finally discovered one that worked for us (since we have the same phone).

I also removed the reading of the message from the notification and unread text reminder, keeping just a notification of a text received from sender. I didn't feel too comfortable having my text auto-read out loud.
Multiple Google Home's
Thanks for this, it works a treat when casting to one google home.
However i tried to get it to cast to my speaker group which just causes the app to crash. Do you know of any work arounds or is it just not capable of doing this yet ?
Unfortunately the app can currently only cast to one device at a time.
Cool things here! A Question Please, - When I import the tasker.xml, are then all my other tasker-tasks still there?
Thanks!

I know Your Question is a time ago, but I wanted to let You know, that it is Possible to cast to more than one Google-Home! - You must only go in the Tasker-Profile, tab on the profile to expand it, tab on the right side in the expanded profile (tasks of the profile), and setup the last task a second time the same but now choose a further Google-Home-Device, done! So the Google-Home's speaking out the information one after another, how it set in the Tasker-Profile! It's really Great!

I have seen Your awesome Profiles, and in the moment I'm addicted to it! I wanted to let You know, because I have seen that in the past Someone have asked about to cast to more than one Google-Home, and You answered that yet is not possible! - Probably You know this anyway, but in case not, I have found a Workaround in the way that I have set up the last task in the profile (Autocast) a second time, and choosed a second Google-Home, and now the Google-Home's speaking out the informations one after another, in the sequence it is setup in the Tasker-Profile! So it is possible to setup many Google-Home's as Wish with this Wonderful Profiles!
Thanks for Your Awesome Work and Time!:good:
