Hi.
I have tried several MicroSD cards in my Remix Mini, and while the built in file manager recognises and can read and write as expected it seems no third party apps can access it. (SD Maid pro detected external storage, but there was no way to give it permission to access it) I have tried a factory reset.
How can i get apps to access the External Storage?
Please, does anyone have a solution for this. I can't get Netflix to see the SD card for downloads.

Hey, what's up? I bought my new Galaxy Note yesterday, and there are some things I don't understand. One of the first apps I installed was App2SD. The Note didn't came with an SD (today I bought one), but something appeared as SD Card. When in I entered to the app, I saw something very interesting. It said that the System storage was 2GB (??!?) and the SD (it didn't had any SD) was 11GB. Today I installed the SD (real) and the app still the SD was 11GB!!! I downloaded MI file explorer, to see better the storage and install some apps I moved to the SD, and when I entered to SD tab, there were folders of Camera, Downloads.. but I couldn't find any of my apps. Then I find the folder "external_sd" and I opened it. Yes, all the apks I moved to the SD were there. So, I thought , lets see the storage tab in Task manager menu. There appeared 3 things: the SD card (8gb), the system storage (2gb) and the USB storage (11gb). So, I realized that all downloads and photos were saving in the USB storage (that is part of the System storage I think). I could change where does the photos save, but no the downloads and apps. They are still saving in that USB storage. And something it was very strange: when I move to SD some apps (Zen Bound 2, 200MB) it appears in the SD but really small (200MB to 20MB) So, the questions are:
1. Can I change that the apps don't install in that USB storage?
2. Can I turn off that USB storage?
3. Why when I enter in Settings and I move an app to the SD, in app2sd appears like it was moved to the USB storage? Or it moved to the real SD?
4. Why the size of the apps change?
Thanks really

Ok, that was a lot to read Ok, as far as Galaxy Note's Memory management is considered, the partition is as:
A. 2GB (1.97GB Precisely) : Acts as ROM
B. 11GB (11.07GB Precisely) : Acts as Internal SD Card
C. X GB (the memory card which you insert) : Acts as External SD Card
So, In A there are built in apps which comes with the ROM you flash.
In B There are apps which you install. The install Location is defined to be in B in your phone by default.
In C You can move the apps using some app such as App2SD or Android Assistant (which I prefer)
If you are concerned with big apps clogging your memory, read ahead:
You can allow your application to install on the device's external storage.
Some types of applications should not allow installation on the external storage.
Installing on the external storage is ideal for large applications that are not tightly integrated with the system (most commonly, games).
If you want to know how to do it, then reply back or PM me. I shall post here.
Hope this helps to clear some basic idea about memory.
Does anyone knows how to move/install your apps on the EXTERNAL sd card? i've got lots of maps and extra games' data on my phone..and when i move them on the external sd card, they are not recognized..
Please help me and other users with the same problem!
Which version of Android are you using?
If you're on ICS then you just go to Systems Settings - Apps. Then you select the app you want to move and you select, "Move to SD card".
I've been on numerous ICS Roms and it's always worked, I'm not sure about GB anymore (I haven't used one for 7 months now )
You can use an app like app2sd, or try to do this manually, like Lord_santa say
I tried both methods but it moves the apps on the INTERNAL sd card..but i want to move them on the EXTERNAL sd card( minisd card that you attach to your phone)
Hi, I have a Moto G 2014 with Stock 5.0.2 rooted, and I bought a 32GB SD Card a few days ago. The thing is that everything is still going to the internal memory, instead of the SD (photos, downloads, etc.), so I want to know if it's a way to make everything write on the SD card without messing up the phone (I heard I can mount SD in /sdcard changing init.rc but I don't want to do that). I also want to move my WhatsApp chats to the SD too, hehehehe (WhatsApp data is in the internal :'c)
Thanks in advance.
Hi,
For the photos and videos part, you can select from the camera application if you want to store them in the internal memory or on the SD card. For applications I think they are installed in the internal memory by default but you can move them after installation on the SD card by going to settings -> apps -> touch app -> move to SD card. To change the default installation location you need the android SDK installed on your PC and adb and then to edit a file. But I do not recommend this since the SD card is not accessible while the phone is connected to the PC. This will make applications that always run to work improperly(widgets, Facebook, etc. might generate a lot of errors because of it).
I think it's a Xposed module for that.

if you're rooted then try link2sd from play store. you need to have an ext partition on your sd card for this to work.
if you are not rooted then you will have to manually create symlinks to the files on the sd card.

Better try Link2SD. The procedure to turn your external SD to internal storage causes a lot of trouble in most cases.
There are also scripts that link the possible apps and libraries automatically to the SD card when installing them.
So I do not want to root my new T580 which rules out APPS2SD/LINK2SD...
I have found instructions on how to force samsung devices in marshallow to enable internal 'adoptable' storage....but also not sure it will work from some posts here. Anyway, I am not familiar with this and have read "cons" being that you can no longer use the SD card to download files/music/video which surprises me.
1. Can I still get access to the devices memory via a computer/USB connection? Basically, still want to copy over videos, sideload APK etc (but do not need to physically move the SD card around)
2. So if not adoptable option, what is best non-rootable options to use the SD card for apps?
Hello, Several apps (including camera and podcasts) give a message saying to insert storage card or that there is insufficient memory. There is plenty of memory, as this is a new install after wipe. I have tried several different storage cards, in case it's a card problem. I have also tried formatting the card both as internal memory and as portable storage.
When I go to settings/storage, I can see the memory card and the files in it. I can even open some of the files (such as music or photos, but not APKs). On the other hand, the file manager can't see the SD card and I can't access the files on it through File Manager
As I have had this problem with several different ROMs (including the Nougat in another thread) and I have only seen the issue in a couple of threads, I wonder maybe it's a hardware fault with the phone.
Any ideas anyone ?
Thanks.
