Exchange Sync Issues - Samsung Galaxy Note 8 Questions and Answers

I'm noticing that my exchange calendar will sync my work appointments just fine, but each appointment will have up to 150 additional items in it, like the phone tried to sync each item multiple times. Not really the biggest issue, just irritating and could be a storage issue. Any idea on what settings to change? Never had the problem with the LG V20, Nexus or other Galaxy phones, just this damn thing.
Thank you

Errors with birthdays, 1440 minutes

Hi!
When I am syncing my Diamond, it does not want to sync birthdays and gives me the error report "XXXX birthday Time:32-10-09 00:00 Duration:1440 minutes". Does anyone have any suggestions?
./InstantGravy
I had this. It seemed to be because I had set a birthday as a re-occuring calendar item back in 2005 and had also set the same persons birthday in contacts. I suggest deleting the calendar item if there is one. Worked for me.

Thanks for the reply!
Unfortunately, it does not solve my problem:-( I have tried removing all birthday entries. I have also tried removing all the birthday entries directly in the calender. It does not seem to matter, the error is still there.
Any other ideas?

Same problem
I have the same problem on my raphael, at first this problem occurred when I had also set the birthdays in contacts, after removing al the birthdays in contacts this problem was solved. Only now the problem persists with one appointment inviseble, to my mac, pc and raphael. From what I have read about people solving these problems it almost always had something to do with a different calender making appointments inviseble to outlook. The thing is it is invisble to al my calanders, and I dont know i what way appointments are stored (That way I could delete them manually). Thus... not a mayer problem, it's just that the error WMDC and pocket activesync give me, are annoying the crap out of me, cheers

I have had this issue, luckily Pocket Informant was able to actually see the "hidden" apptment and I could delete same. PI8 has saved my bacon here many times as I sync with 2 machines, on XP other W2000 (work...)
PI8 also had an "advanced" ways of looking at the recurring birthdays...resetting the recurring date for birthdays/anniversaries using PI fixed my issues
Duplicates would often appear and ODIR (http://www.vaita.com/ODIR.asp) would sort that out...
Basically Activsync sucks....and you will spend a lot of time "patiently" solving these issues....Hope this helps and good luck!!
Aight thanks man great tip, no matter how careful I am keep needing software removing my doubles and manually recreating some of them to, almost to the point where was searching for an iMac... . thanks
Sorted it out with Exchange
Hi y'all and thanks for your time and effort!
We switched to an Exchange server at work and that solved my problem. Now I am able to sync with exchange at work and with my Windows Mobile Device Center at home. Still has a few glitches, but a lot better than before. My "Birthday" problem has disappeared as well, so I think it had something to do with syncing two computers with mobile device center.
I agree that ODIR is a fine product worth trying for those of us that have had a few duplicates created in our sync efforts.
A pity that the sync function of windows mobile isn't better than this.
Hey all
I have the same problem as "InstantGravy", with the sync-error caused from birthday-entries.
Error:
Emne: Emilies Fødselsdag
Klokkeslæt: 06-08-85 00:00
Varighed: 1440 minutter
I know it's in danish, but it's the same kind of error as "InstantGravy" is talking about.
Can anyone, (If anyone got one) please please please bring a step-by-step on how to resolve this problem. It's driving me crazy. I hate when I get errors on my phone/pc...
Any help is much appreciated...Thanks

Calendar syncing problems

So ive noticed that some of the tasks that are on my google.com calendar arent showing up on my phone, ive cleared data/cache under settings->apps->manage apps... resyncd at least 3 times but still no go, most show up but there are some from last month or so that arent can anyone shed some light on this issue or knows how to fix it?
TY
btw im running cyanogens latest rom if that matters
Bump...
I've reentered tasks on my phone again then resyncd them they showed up in the calendar on Google.com but then cleared cache again and resyncd and they aren't showing on the phone....
any ideas?
to recap- calendar only syncs one month back, everything else doesnt show up
I'm on stock and I've been having huge calendar syncing issue for the past 10 days or so. Syncing is hectic, sometimes it works sometimes not (both directions), sync icon stays on for hours even when sync is off, sync time gets stuck on some old time and date etc.
I tried uninstall wallpapers, power widgets and the rest but with no success.
I'm starting to think it's a problem with google servers :S
PS: gmail and contacts sync is working.
Im glad im not the only one experiencing this, ive swapped roms and whatnot but that didnt help, and yes contacts and gmail are syncing just fine the only thing that isnt is the calendar. Now that you mentioned servers, it makes sense, i was just tinkering around with calendars and have gotten most of them back, but still inst 100%. Really hope this gets fixed asap
Forgot to mention that at some point I thought it was related to a world cup calendar that I added to gcalendar; but even uninstalling that didn't improve the situation much.
Android not yet ready for business use
Hey there!
How are things doing on your side? Since 2 days, my calendar is syncing (nearly) normally.
But this whole issue made me realize that our beloved OS is not yet very reliable, and thus not ready to be used as a business PDA; especially for people who use their calendar a lot and who need constant synchronization in multiple places.

Exchange account sync - calendar & contacts not sync properly

Hi,
I came from HTC desire, previously when I used with my office exchange, it managed to sync emails, calendar and contacts perfectly. However, when I changed to SGN, the following situation happen.
- Modify or cancel event from Outlook, phone doesn't get sync (even I sync manually few times), it is still displaying old info.
- Modify contact in Outlook, for example mobile number or name. Phone doesn't get sync and still display the old info.
- Modify contact in phone, for example company, Outlook doesn't get the updated info.
All above are done with process where sync is "triggered" successfully.
Did any of you encounter this problem? Any resolution?
I can't help you, but I'm having problems with email in my exchange account. I have everything set up the same as my last several Android devices, but I can't reliably receive new emails. Sometimes they'll be delayed by a day or so. It's almost like the email client is not using cellular data to update and only using wifi when the device is on. Anyone else have this problem?

Sounds like account & frequency settings than an issue. Have you verified them? Are you on mobile data all the time?
I'm finding that on occasion it stops syncing mail.. the moment you reboot OR go in and manually ask it to refresh it starts doing it normally again no problems...
I am also having the same problem .. However manually refreshing - sometimes still does not work. It is indeed - very annoying .. I believe the problem is in the Email.apk ..
still no solution found, apart from using different E-mail clients off the market, which work with various success ..
I've been through the settings many times but still have the problem. It just decides to stop syncing sometimes.

Any alternate email client you suggest? I start to miss HTC mail client.
Although a bit weird, but after flashing this rom (Cassie's XtraLiteRom KKA ThunderBolted! V2.2) it seem to work fine so far. Still observing and hope it does really work.
I am also using the same ROM - there was no improvement for me. I believe the problem is in the E-mail client. The one we have is version 3.0.0.1. Before on another Android phone I used 2.3.5. I tried to replace the new one with the old one - and then it works. The problem is however that the old one is not scaling up to fit the large Gnote screen. It is a lower resolution.
I tried many other e-mail clients - K-9, Kaiten (both of them could not connect to my exchange server (2010)), Moxier - for some reason crashed my contacts and then I tried TouchDown - which is kind-a good and in terms of connectivity - all worked fine - but there were some integration points that were not fit for my taste.
What I ended up doing was a bit weird - but so far works nicely. I downloaded Google Calendar Sync - which takes your Outlook calendar and syncs it with your Google Calendar. Then I downloaded GO Contact Sync Mod - and that does the same for the Outlook and Gmail contacts. So I have both of them running on my PC and they automatically sync Calendar and Contacts. This way - my phone get them through the Google account and .. a bonus is that I have a backup
To check e-mails - I use the IMAP functionality of K-9 as my exchange server doubles up as IMAP too. For the time being - that's OK for me - and I will be hoping that Google will fix up this E-mail client in the Ice Cream Sandwich .. let's hope it is not I SCREAM sandwich
Alternatively - one can use the old E-mail client - 2.3.5 .. for Contacts and Calendar only and use K-9 for the mail .. It is really a matter of preference
I noticed that this may work. Instead of using push notification, use interval sync. This seems to solve it?
It's really weird and I still can't figure out the root cause.
That's a good clue - it appears to fix it!
Iam using SGN with 500+ emails everyday! absolutely no problem at all. I have been user of XE, XL, Sensation etc I personally think this issue arises when data connectivity of the concern operator is down (GPRS / EDGE) however, on WIFI no issues at all

Nope it's not the connectivity issue, it's the bug on push notification. Apparently this seems to be a bug in samsung, I didn't have issue in HTC previously.
After changing the push to interval pulling, it works perfectly fine now.
It might be related to 2.3.6 I recall having the issue on 2.3.5 and I'm pretty sure I saw it on my p1000 after I modded it.
My note is still stock.

[Q] s-planner and outlook disappointed

Hi this its my first please go easy. I'm disappointed now with the galaxy note and Android. I need a decent calendar as I record all my work and then search by client to find my history and details and then paste into invoices from outlook on my laptop
Here's the story;
I've had the old HTC windows phones hd2 tytn etc and used stylus then touch synced outlook etc. Then got an iPhone4 to try out. The calendar was poor as it wouldn't let me search far back, found ical app which is brilliant. Now I'm not a fan of apple as its far to restrictive and you have to jailbreak to free it. Then along came the note, brilliant, large screen stylus notes, everything I want. So I've had it month and finally took the plunge to get outlook onto goggle calenear and s planner. What a nightmare, first I have outlook 2002 so finally get appointments to google then synced to phone. thought I'd use google calendar and phone and not outlook. Can't search easily on google calendar and s-planner crashes when searching. I do have a history of 5000 events though going back 5 years, but no problem with iPhone or old windows 6.5.
My conclusion galaxy note brilliant but let down by Android. Also apps are battery draining and data usage restrictions difficult. Now I know why ios will prevail and that is just as disappointing. Sorry for long post.
I can empathize with you. I used to be a happy user of Palm Desktop, which worked 100% as expected. Then I was forced into the Outlook world, which almost worked (through Activesync), but it had its glitches, like suddenly not connecting or producing duplicate entries, which consequently would give me multiple alarms for the same event. Now I am using a Note, with S-Planner and Google calendar and it doesn't seem as solid as Outlook, not to mention Palm Desktop.
Still, Outlook has never been a perfect piece of software and I won't miss it much. If Samsung managed to put together a sensible version of KIES, it would be enough for me.
Alternatively, if you really depend heavily on Outlook, why not try a third party synchronizing software, like Companionlink http://www.companionlink.com/ ?
Trouble is google calendar is to basic for me and has stopped syncing the last 3 months but has all the older events ? even though out is on my s-planner, so i think i need outlook. I do have the 2002 version though which not very compatible.
I don't know why the s planner is force closing when searching.
My key essentials are outlook sync to phone and search.
I would get outlook 2010 if this would help sync as I don't want to go back to iPhone
the iPhone app was weekcal by utilitap which was great.
I also use Outlook 2002 (when I have to), since later versions, especially 2007 and 2010 are even worse than that. They seem to have lots of functions, but these are not well implemented. Even though they seem to work, they are buggy and instead of quietly doing what they're supposed to, produce lots of infamous Outlook secret error codes for you to resolve. I don't have time for this kind of game.
Google calendar misses some functions, but as far as I am concerned, it synchronizes well all the events I put into S-Planner. It looks like there's a problem in your setup. Do you have automatic data synchronization turned on on your Android phone? Do you synchronize while connected to WiFi? Or maybe your data transfer is somehow blocked when on 3G network?
I do have data sync on and sync via wifi. Good point I will change this. May do a hard reset as I am not using as my main phone yet, just trying to get everything stable before I transfer. Shame about all this though as it is a great phone.
Thanks for your help.
This may help re the search crashes in S-Planner - I noticed this as well, immediately after a recent firmware update. Before that, S-Planner search worked fine. I plan to register with Samsung and raise a ticket or ask a question - the more of us that register and complain, the quicker it will be fixed, so I'd encourage you to do the same.
Further to the search crash. It's tied to the Google Calendar (that S-Planner interacts with). Called Samsung New Zealand for support and what a surprise, they didn't even want to talk to me about the problem. Figured it out for myself with the help of a little forum searching - it seemed that that the calendar cache was conflicting with the firmware update. Backed up data, forced the calendar to close from Manage Applications, rebooted, and now the search works fine - I've run about 5 searches and all seems good so far. Re syncing with Outlook - I sync using Kies with Outlook 2007, no problems so far.
Logged a query with samsung and just done a factory reset and now have Kies installed on my PC. It wont sync with outlook 2002 contacts or schedule get message "an error has occurred attempting to read or write protected memory. This is often an indication that other memory is corrupt"
Looking on forums there seems to be a problem with kies or I dont know if it is a problem with outlook 2002. I could upgrade to 2003 (I like the week view of 2002) then the google sync software would work hopefully for the outlook to google calendar? Idealy just want reliable local sync from outlook to Note, just like with my iphone to weekcal (sorry to say the iphones looking like gods gift at the moment).
Hopefully ICS will put all this right.
Simple answer for you - I use outlook for work all day and I sync using myphonexplorer. It does more than just sync, install programs allows you to text via laptop etc. Best of all its free - syncs via wifi or usb or bluetooth. Its nothing short of perfect for my needs. Syncs contacts, notes, diary etc
Same issue for me with ActiveSync.
While I was on GB no matter what application I used the sync never happened. The application just pops a message that the server refused the connections or some thing of the sort. After a few searches I found out that my Org's mail policies are on stricter side and they do not allow syncing on certain androids unless they support encryption. As Samsung has not implemented it, I had to check my mails on webmail.
But looks like even ICS is a disappointment on this front. I flashed an ICS ROM and checked, but no luck on MS EAS
Jorte Calendar?
This maybe not be germane to all your problems, but I struggled with the native Samsung calendar / tasks app to sync properly - especially with the widget view.
I switched to Jorte Calendar. It syncs perfectly AFAICT with Google calendar, has great tasks support and about a million different customisable widget views.
Unfortunately, searching appears to be its Achilles' heel... which I guess for you means its no go.
On the PC end, I have switched to Em Client. All so far is syncing fine. Note, tablet, PC, cloud; calendar & contacts.
Could not get myexplorer app utility to work either. Got duplicates of calendar appointments (total of 5000 appointments twice !)
Restored from back up and now still have no
Appointments , events on my note.
Taking too much of my time up.
Still using iPhone for general day to day.
One thing I have noticed though is how much battery my note has in reserve after getting rid of apps, like battery saver, juice defender etc. Ironic really.

[Q] Recurring Calendar Entries

hi,
i seem to have an issue with creating recurring calendar entries on my z3c.
using the built-in calendar app or 3rd party apps, i can create a calendar entry but as soon as i make it recurring, it doesn't show up.
does anyone have any ideas as to what is wrong ? can someone test creating a recurring appointment on their z3c ?
thanks in advance
Im not sure it helps but it works perfectly for me.
I can only think it might have something to do with your google account sync? Have you set that up?
It might be completely unrelated. I cant think of anything else except maybe clear the data from calendar and restart
hi there,
thanks for taking the time to reply - much appreciated.
i sync my local device calendar (i.e not google) with another pc and the items have appeared on the sync'd calendar but still don't appear on my own device which is odd.
at least i know it's specific to my device rather than a z3c issue - thanks for that.
Hi
I have the same issue with my Z3. When I enter a recurring appointment, it doesnt show on the phone. It shows on every other device expect the Z3. Any solution?
Best regards
works fine for me as well.. could it be you create the recurring event in a calendar that is not selected to be displayed on your z3c ?
e.g. I have multiple calendars I sync with google, but I have selected several to not display on my device (they are synced though), maybe you have similar setup and post the new event to a device calendar by default that is selected to not display...
In my case, thats not the issue. I only use one calendar in Google. I've used the same calendar for years, on different phones, and in different apps, without any problems. The problem ocurred when switching to Sony Z3.

I believe the Sony has a "device" calendar though, that doesn't sync to google.. so chances are you are creating the event correctly in your google calendar, which is then synced to your other devices - but the sony is set to display the device calendar, which is obviously empty.. look into the left hand side pull-out menu on the sony calendar app and see which calendars are checked to display..
