Stuck with CM 12.1 and no recovery - Fire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

A while back I tried to flash my Kindle Fire (5th gen), KFFOWI, with CM 12.1. As i recall it, it failed at first using flashfire and then on second attempt it was able to install CM 12.1. Now i am left with no recovery or gapps and it is just plain CM 12.1.
It does boot in to fastboot/bootloader but doesn't allow me to flash anything.
Any way i could either downgrade it to original stock recovery and ROM?

Without stock recovery your options are limited. If you have root on CM 12.1 you could attempt to install a different custom ROM (Lineage or Fire Nexus). However, if something goes wrong you'll be left with a non-functional device with little chance of recovery.
If you do not have root access you're stuck with CM. You could try a limited GAaps install as documented for unrooted FireOS.

Flash Latest Recovery

I have been running an Snapshot M10 of CM11 (eMMC) for quite a while. I decided to see if there was a new version of CM11 as development seems to have slowed some what since the advent of CM12.
When I navigated to the CM download page for the Ovation I found a recovery image is now listed next to Nightly ROM.
I have flashed the NIGHTLY and have been trying to flash the recovery image, using ADB or Terminal Emulator, without success. In all honesty, I would also like to update the bootloader if possible.
Can anyone explain if I even need this new recovery? (I think the recovery is currently CWM 6.0.4.6)
How do I flash it?
Should I use the TWRP released for CM12 as a better option? (I will update to CM12 in the future)
Can I update the bootloader? How do I do that?

slimlp 5.1 problem

i have a 7 inch amazon fire tablet 2015 5th generation i installed the slimlp 5.1 android rom with flashfire and i also installed the google apps mini for it and it was working fine and then i rebooted it now its stuck at slims boot logo ty.
if it wont boot fully your only option is to return to stock and start again. just get the right amazon image 5.0.1 or 5.1.1 depending weather you upgraded after purchase. and sideload through stock recovery. (there are tutorials out there, just google it). it won't wipe data either so all your apps etc will still be there. then just root and use flash fire to flash slim and gapps again. just a thought, were you refering to the slim minigapps linked in op? or another?

Updating N2aos to CM 12.1 Kindle Fire HD 7" 2012 (Amazon Tate)

Hi,
My sister is running the N2aos (CM10.1 N2aos) and I wanted to see if I could flash CM 12.1 on it. I'm assuming I could update TWRP, wipe the storage, then flash CM 12.1 + GAPPS? It seems that the N2aos did install TWRP 2.4.4, according to TWRP'S app. I don't see the tate model listed on TWRP'S site, but I do see otter model. Can I use the "Amazon Kindle Fire (1st Gen) (otter)" TWRP on the tate build? If so, can I use the TWRP app or Flashify app to update it? Then can I update a N2aos version of CM to CM 12.1? Thanks guys!
So I looked at the forms some, and i'm assuming that she already has the "2nd bootloader" if it has TWRP. I'm assuming the custom Tate version of TWRP is posted here (not TWRP site) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=39872298#post39872298 . I'm guessing shes all set, can be updated, and doesn't have to worry about the 2nd bootloader and all. So I'm looking at downloading TWRP from that site, booting into current TWRP, and have it Flash the new TWRP from within TWRP. Then wipe and install CM 12.1 +GAPPS. Thoughts?

So I went ahead and downloaded the TWRP that was made for the Tate model, on the thread, and it successfully installed. Then I wiped it, installed CM 12.1 and gapps. And it all went smooth. So it seems that N2aos does everything the same. So if you have N2aos installed, you can change the ROM and update TWRP. If your scared to work on the bootloader or gain root access, you could use N2aos and update from there. I hope this helps others

No Recovery

I recently flashed slimrom on my kindle fire 5th gen 7in. It installed just fine except I have no root access and I cannot boot into recovery. When I try and boot into recovery it just stays stuck at the Amazon logo and I have to reboot it. I used flashfire and I even have a video of me flashing slimrom. I was on Nexus AOSP previously when I did it. Also when I flashed Nexus AOSP I was on fire os 5.1.2. Please help me and also would a factory cable allow me to reflash the stock recovery ?

Likely not wiping partitions prior to flashing CM. Read/follow guidance in CM 12.1 thread...first post in particular.
