[WARNING] "DUAL-RECOVERY" Huawei/ Honor - PRA - 2017 - P8 Lite (2017) Discussion

[WARNING]"DUAL-RECOVERY" Huawei/
Honor - PRA - 2017
I have recommended a dual recovery several times.
TWRP on the recovery2 partition (eRecovery)
Now I have noticed the following:
With a forced update (UPDATE. APP) TWRP will be overwritten with the original on the recovery partition. Not if it's on partition 2. That's a big brick risk.
So, please forget about the dual recovery.

Thanks for the info! But... Only need forgot the twrp in recovery2 if want to force update with update.app method, no? If want, just flash original recovery2 and ready to run update.app method, no?
Thx again!

The eRecovery is a prerequisite for the UPDATE. APP. Missing it will lead to brick later. For example, if you perform a new unlocking. Then the device will no longer boot. Adb cannot find a connection. You can't flash anymore. No recovery and no TWRP. Running the UPDATE. APP again is not possible anymore. Total brick!

How can i flash TWRP for PRA-LX1C432B322?
It flashes it, but when i try to enter in TWRP Recovery i get FUNC NO: 11 (recovery image) Error NO: 2 (load failed!)

Well, can't you tape adb reboot recovery from PC shell once android is booted? This is the easiest way,
Else, shut down the mobile, press volume up button, next press power and keep volume buttton pressed, you should boot properly in recovery and not e-recovery.

Nice. On the link you gave for TWRP, there is a disclaimer "can't flash 8.1 ROMS".
My goal is to flash GSI roms, like LOS15.1. Will it be possible or am i doomed ?
Thank you for your help

P10 Oreo system update (B365) on L29-C432B360+Magisk v16

Hello, I have a P10 L09C113 rebranded in L29-C432B360 and then rooted with Magisk V16 installed via TWRP 3.2.1-o by Blackball (https://forum.xda-developers.com/p10-plus/development/recovery-twrp-3-2-1-0-oreo-t3734993)
Today I received a notification about a system update to 8.0.0.365 via OTA (about 300 MB) on system settings app.
Is it safe to accept the update?
Or do I have to flash the stock recovery first?
Or do I have to uninstall Magisk before and then to flash stock recovery?
Or ?

Exciting!
I recommend this method as it will ensure it works correctly:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/p10/how-to/guide-manual-updgrade-to-update-oreo-t3758286
You will indeed need the stock recovery, and this method does it all for you. Simply re-flash TWRP and Magisk after its installed and booted once. Good luck!

at the end I flashed stock recovery and used Firmware Finder App.
In this way I downloaded the firmware from system settings app and updated successfully.
Now I will flash TWRP, but I'm looking for the best one:
@Blackball that cannot decrypt /data or @espaciosalter20 that decrypt /data, but I don't know if is able to flash Magisk

TWRP 3.2.1-0 for P10 v0.1 from Pretoreiano80 works well for 8.0 ROMs (like stock firmware you have flashed.
(Blackball's is useful if you're exploring 8.1 ROMs (such as the available Treble images))

Thank you, but I read on thread:
Some of you have been reporting that mounting /system or another partitions doesn't work. I have discover that you need to decrypt data *before* to mount any other partitions.
I didn't set pin or fingerprint on my P10.
May I use this TWRP to backup and restore partition (system/boot in readonly image) and install Magisk v16?

The worst you can do is try. Seriously, backing up will not damage your system and if you see any errors then try a different TWRP version. You can flash as many of those as you like through fastboot until you find one that works for you!
Backup for sure, but flash magisk?
Could it corrupt system or data?

R u encrypted now? If u are, then flashing non-encrypted kernel won't do anything and you'll still be encrypted. This kernel only prevent encryption after you're unencrypted with "formatting data" which erases all from data and internal storage

Root Huawei P8 Lite (2017) OREO.

NOTE:I shall not be responsible for any damage cause to your phone by this procedure.
As OREO on Huawei P8 Lite 2017 brings treble support so rooting it is an issue for everyone.
I am here to guide you how to root Huawei P8 Lite 2017 (also known as Honor 8 Lite).
Requirements:
1.Unlocked Bootloader
2.Oreo Updated
3.Current running firmware (mine PRA-LA1C185B366)
4.Huawei Update Extractor (Download Below)
5.Magisk Manager latest apk.
6.Internet Connection.
7.Fastboot installed.
Procedure:
1.Extract RAMDISK.img from your downloaded firmware (or you can dump it using TWRP).
2.Transfer extracted RAMDISK.img to your phone.
3.Now open installed Magisk Manager and click install.
4.Now choose patch boot image and select the extracted RAMDISK.img.
5.It will take 5 min to download zip file and patch RAMDISK.img.
6.Patched RAMDISK.img usually stored in "sdcard/Download/patched-boot.img" or magisk manager will also guide you where the patched boot image stored.
7.Transfer the patched-boot.img to your pc.
8.Now boot your phone in bootloader mode.
9.Flash the patched-boot.img using this command
"fastboot flash ramdisk (path of patched-boot).img" without qoutes.
10.After successful flashing reboot your phone either by holding power button or by using fastboot command.
BOOM your phone is rooted now start playing with magisk modules.

Huawei has changed the partition scheme along with encryption method totally thats why it is taking so much time.
Good News is devs are working on it and they are hoping that we could decrypt our huawei phone very soon.
