Google Camera v8.3b Mod with HDR+ (recommended settings)[Exynos] - Samsung Galaxy Note 8 Themes, Apps, and Mods

I found the settings of google camera that give the best HDR+, portraits on Nougat/Oreo Exynos devices. Compared to stock camera, GCam gives better saturation levels and detailed images. HDR+ parameters don’t hugely matter what you choose, and is all personal preference. A higher amount (very high in my case) will take a longer time to process.
New settings attached below. Clean Install is always recommended.
Mod8.3b_IDan_v3.2.9_Exynos.apk
3.2.9 Features
-Fixed black level back camera for Samsung Galaxy A8/A8+
-Attempt to fix OIS
3.2.7 Features
- Fixed black level front
- Enabled OIS by default
- Added saturation options in Advanced HDR+ settings
3.2 Features
- Dark Theme for settings.
- Now you can select the path where to save the photos (doesn't work on sd card but probably can work with some xposed mod).
- Removed all the snapdragon toggles. The app will know when apply that settings.
- Removed custom denoise param and other settings
- Now the app will restart every time you go back from settings to the viewfinder. This means that you don't need anymore to restart the app to apply settings
- Now there are three gestures in the viewfinder:
1. double tap on the black area it will pop the exposure menu directly
2. long-press on gallery and it will open samsung gallery instead of google photos
3. long press on the switch camera and after the restart the viewfinder brightness will be set to maximum
- some minor changes
Gcam Tool v2..32
-Prevent flipping of front camera photos
-Choose which photos you want to move
-Select custom source and destination folders
-Batch move multiple files
-Option to delete the sub folder created by Google Camera

Nice.. I couldn't get that movement correctly to slide it to get lens blur

But it seems to be a old version without the original portrait-mode. They are working on it and posted versions that are working for snapdragon but not for the exynos right now.

Not at all, Live Focus is infinitely better than lens blur. Lens Blur can't detect edges for ****. The problem with Live Focus is it requires adequate lighting for good processing. Lower light tends to do about as well as lens blur, for me at least.
Also Live Focus is fantastic as generating a gradual bokeh across the ground or a wall, it's way more natural. Lens Blur can't do anything like that.

I agree that but lens blur and live focus are totally different in work. Lens blur is a good replacement for devices like S8, S7 etc.

There's a new version that supports Portrait mode, and is working on Snapdragon variants... I've tried, but can't find any setting to work.

For me, the Google app is more natural than Samsung. The Samsung looks more artificial. Check by yourself. I installed the app as in OP. No problems at all.

Poor focusing in the dark?

We all know how rubbish the photos captured with the HTC One in the dark are (in terms of focusing)- the photos appear fuzzy and blurry. This is because, unlike other phones, for some odd reason, there is no "light-assisted" focus.
Does anyone know of a way to modify the camera app or any other way to force light assisted focus when taking photos in the dark?

I'd much rather prefer to stick with my current ROM (RGUI) to be honest. Isn't there any other way?
Thanks for your response though.
Is there not an option in RGUI to put a flashlight toggle in the EQS? That would have the same effect.

EDIT: Camera doesn't open with the flashlight turned on.
I'm confused as to how the camera is poor at focusing on the dark when the sensor inherently picks up more light? When I was doing some tests for another thread on low light issues I was always able to focus quite easily in the middle of the night because the sensor let's you see a lot of features in the frame to focus on (more than other camera phones I've used at least). I know that you're not the only one bringing up this matter but I'm genuinely confused about how this is an issue for people. Have you changed camera settings or are you using a different ROM?

Autofocus doesnt work with HDR/HDR+ enabled. The camera works fine with auto focus without HDR features. I HDR+ is the reason why you want this mod then we are out of luck, its no better than the default MIUI cam.. may be a tad better NR processing on low light images.

So, I am writing this based on my experience on my Mi6 (Mi Mix 2 still has a locked bootloader for now), when you activate the HDR+ the autofocus will die, at that point you focus in Video mode, go back to Photo and take the picture.
In that way the HDR+ is working properly and as expected. You just need to keep your hands steady.
Also, on Mi6 has been reported that the Autofocus is working now with the latest version (with some bugs and messing around with the OmniVision module):

The GCam portrait mode doesn't require a dual camera setup, the software do the cut and blur the background.
I'm using Arnova Pixel2Mod 8.1 and works as intended, but just to clarify, portrait mode only works with faces, if you're trying to do that with an object, use the Lens Blur mode.

There's no Google camera port for the X4, in any variant.
There are hundreds of Google camera ports, many of which function in limited or mostly limited capacity on the X4, though. Portrait mode works fine with the rear camera, as well as the front camera.
These portrait shots were taken with a Google camera port on my X4. (rear cam)

Not necessarily; I don't share more personal portraits (of people) but it takes portraits well at distance, in fact, Google is on record with its philosophy of almost forcing more distance with its default 1.5x zoom in portrait mode.
I'll look at the exif/metadata and check to see what the farthest distance in my portrait shots are. Several feet, at least, in some.

You are mistaken. Unless the subject is really close to the camera and HDR is on, the portrait mode doesn't really make a difference. I tried it on a variety on subject at various distances, and the result was more or less the same.

I'm not mistaken.
You don't know what camera port/version I used - that's number one. Number two, you don't have my camera samples, number three, you don't have my exif data.
I get two pictures, one with the entire scene in focus, and another with a different focal plane. And yes, at distance. Whether or not the ports and environments you work with can reproduce those outcomes is another story. But I'm not mistaken about anything.
Max focal distance for the portrait shots I have is around 8 feet. It may go farther, it may not. That's just a quick check.

It is now on the PlayStore - as Camera 7.2. If you have an earlier version installed (unmodded, of course), update. For me (Pixel 3a), the biggest gain is still NightSight; if I needed the AstroPhotography mode, the same improvements that show up in NightSight would be useful there, too. My biggest quibble is the same one that was present with the previous Camera app; motion is on by default.. (Where I'm curious is WHY it's on by default - the default with other OEM/ODM camera apps is to shoot stills.) Because of the NightSight improvements, it's a worthwhile update for the Pixel 3a and earlier - especially if you take low-light shots - and given the time of year, you likely will.
So, anybody using Cstark's PXv4.x camera mod on the Pixel 3a? Are there major improvements?

I use it, works great, no issues found, but i did not made many pictures..
It installs as a new package, so you can use booth (or deactivate Google Camera wo you'll only have one in your app drawer)
PRO:
- set portrait zoom to 1.5 instead of 3.0
- Astrography mode switch
- many more settings to try out
CONS:
- Selecting Google Lens does not work, but you can use it easily from the app in the Playstore.
Just install it and try it for yourself, if you don't like it, you can uninstall it in a breeze.

These camera apps will install as a second camera. They do not replace the stock camera app and they can both be installed at the same time (just like any other 3rd party camera app). You can select the PX Camera to act as the default camera, but the OEM camera is available in the apps draw.
I'm running Camera PX 4.1 (version 7.2.014) right now. It adds a bunch of extra settings that are definitely helpful. One of the best features is bringing back Smart Burst mode (where the camera takes a series of high quality images while you hold the shutter button down). This was taken away by Google when they introduced the dumb video feature which only provides one high quality image and the rest are really low quality.
It probably won't make a noticeable difference in picture quality for normal pictures, but might in night or astro mode.
The only "downside" or feature not working in PX 4.1 is the "Google Lens" function. Selecting that mode doesn't actually do anything. I have to use the OEM camera right now if I want to use Google Lens. Hopefully that bug is fixed in the next version. Everything else works as expected.

Little off topic, but i thought the same about my nokia 7 plus with GCam.
Thing is the fixed focus on the pixel front cam. You need to hold the phone more far away to get nice selfies.

But I had Pixel 3 before 3A(switched due to atrocious battery life), and even in that I felt that the selfie camera was ok.

Nothing special really......
I have "4k Smart Burst", "Restore Smart Burst" turned on and "Super Res Xoom Always On". Portrait Zoom set to 1.5x. "AI AWB for HDR+ Enhanced" turned On and "AI AWB for Night Sight" turned on.
I don't do anything with Lib patcher. I figure the stock settings are about as good as they are going to get.

Question Disabling post processing on stock Gcam possible?

Im very disappointed by the post processing the stock Gcam forcefully adds to every picture taken and im wondering if its possible to disable that in some developer options. Mainly the extreme contrast and sharpening. Google also disabled the function to select a different photo app as default which sucks. I stumbled over sometthing called lib-Patcher for Gcam on Reddit but have no idea how to use it.
I hope someone can help me since that would be the only big negative i noticed on my Pixel 7 so far.
You can do JPEG + RAW to be able to edit the photo yourself.
Open the camera, bring down the menu in the top left corner. Tap more settings, tap advanced. You will see the toggle there.
Note that these photos will still be pixel binned to 12MP.

Yes i know that, but that again requires lots of colorgrading since the "raw" pictures are a grey .dng with some kind of log-profile. If i take the picture and go to the gallery asap i can see the original nice picture for about a second and then it get the extreme sharpening and contrast added. That is the step i dont like. It makes Green grass and leaves look very grey and ugly because it only adds contrast and sharpening to already green mushy blobs. Similar stuff on the Shadows. If its already dark it doesnt need contrast and sharpening.
Hmm I have no idea then.

play.google.com
No post processing.
However, some of the post processing is done at the HAL level. There's nothing you can do to disable that.

Thank you, I'll look at that camera app. Im only talking about the processing after taking the picture btw. I can see the picture changing in my gallery.

The pictures look very pleasing and without the post processing, very nice! But there is no manual mode or am i missing something? EV-compensation for control is fine but i would like to have a slider for whitebalance too, is this not a thing with this app?

White balance would be a post-processing enhancement, wouldn't it?
In any case, contributions (which could be code or feature requests) can be made at the project repository; https://github.com/GrapheneOS/Camera

The post post processing. I can see a very nice picture and then it gets changed AGAIN.
One way is to reduce sharpening and contrast in photos app or snapseed
Here's an idea, sell the pixel, get something else. Main point of Pixel is its photo processing.

How about NO? The main point of pixel is UNLOCKABLE and AOSP.
Un-install google photos and install Simple Gallery. Maybe that will help you overcome your post-processing problem ?

Its the camera application, not the gallery application.

Can you recommend one with 6-6,3", uncurved screen, stock android and a great camera system?

Xperia 5 IV? A lot better camera system, P7 has only one good camera, the main one. Xperia has 3. Pixel has better software for picture processing but that was your problem so maybe better of with other products
To your problem, can you download a gcam mod? Those have a ton of settings, HDR levels etc.
