I have read this a few times. I cant figure out what you are trying to say. What does this mean?
"the only way to reset it is to go find my phone and unlock my phone from there it resets direction lock"

Do you mean pattern unlock?

I mean direction lock you ( you ounlock your phone when you slide the phone up down left right etc, to put again pin lock you go to "samsung find my mobile" and you can reset the phone from there

Sorry I have no idea what you're talking about. Have you tried a factory reset?

So you set lock screen to "Swipe", but then when you change it to "Pin" the settings crash/force close? Then you can only fix by unlocking through the Find My Phone functionality?
If so, well I just tried switching from Swipe to Pin...no problems at all, works fine on my stock N950FD.
What model do you have? Are you rooted/using Xposed? Sounds like either some sort of app/mod is causing a conflict. If you can't narrow down the cause, then you might need to try flashing stock firmware or just do a factory reset.

Oh wow, I didn't even know Direction Lock existed! Learned something new, thanks
Well I googled...see this page:
http://www.tomsguide.com/forum/id-3182077/samsung-direction-lock-reset.html
Different device there, but same issue... Unclear if it's actually a bug or simply designed to work that way. Read through the entire link though, there is a lot of good info and a few solutions that users seem to have confirmed. I'd start there...

[Q] Screen lock to start - how to enable/disable?

A few weeks/months back I did some setting in my Nexus 6 that sets the screen unlock pattern whenever the phone boots.
i.e. when the phone boots, it asks you to enter you screen unlock pattern in order to boot.
Now I want to disable that so that I don't have to unlock my screen in order to boot. But I am not able to find that setting... I don't remember where it was. I looked under Security...Smart Lock...etc... can't find it. Where is that setting?
I haven't rooted or unlocked the phone. So it must be some default setting (which I am not able to find now).
In security- Change Screen Lock to None or Swipe.. This'll release your problem..
Then check in pattern lock again. There is the option available, which you mentioned..

Lock Screen Fingerprint Unlock

I have my lock screen set for fingerprint. If the device is shutdown or restarted, the lockscreen asks for a fingerprint. After that if the power button is pressed to shut off and lock the screen, the next time it is turned on the lockscreen asks for just a swipe. It wont ask for a fingerpring again until the system is restarted again. Anyone else have this problem? Solutions?
You have to go into settings and set the power button to lock device. Or you can change the settings to lock device after a certain period of time.
It's under Lockscreen/Secure Lock Settings
Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
You can also set it to not lock if it's connected to a certain device, like a Bluetooth.
This is a god sent because it's always been a pain to unlock the phone in a car after it's gone to sleep and you are streaming music from it.
Thanks! That was driving me crazy. I knew it was there, but couldn't find it.
I know what you mean! It was confusing the heck out of me in the beginning but then caught on.
How do one wish to switch back to just a simple swipe after choosing fingerprint unlock
The SWIPE option is now greyed out ??

AT&T fingerprint scanner wakeup

Ok I'm feeling a little dumb lol. On thr AT&T variant, the fingerprint sensor is not waking up the device when locked and screen off. Am I just missing a setting somewhere?
The international version works just fine to wake up and unlock screen, but the AT&T version doesn't.
Any input?
Works for me

My att note 8 works as expected with this. Maybe a setting i forgot about enabling. Perhaps power save more disables this ? Are you using power save?
Edit- tested with power save. This doesn't seem to be the culprit.
Ok there's a setting where you scan in your prints. It's a toggle you must enable. That should do the trick.

Yup it's under lock screen and security then smart Lock. You wanna select the first option and it should automatically unlock to home screen when using your fingerprint.
Composed on the Galaxy Note8

Could you fix the problem?
Could you fix the problem? I bought Galaxy S9+ AT&T version and it seems has the same problem.

The only way I could get it to work was to set screen to lock immediately with power button. Can't remember the exact setting title, but I think it's Settings/secure lock settings
Basically if you set the screen to lock as soon as it turns off it'll trigger the fingerprint to turn on screen immediately.
It worked!!! Thank you very very much. Really appreciate it. I was one step farther to return the phone.

I just wanted to say thanks. I flashed my unlocked Note8 with the AT&T firmware to see if it is worth the bloat. On the unlocked firmware I never had to make that change, it was always on. I don't know why I didn't think to check that setting and I don't know why AT&T would set it to ten minutes, there are so many things that can happen in ten minutes. Thanks!

Is there a way to unlock the phone using a fingerprint without opening the screen?

Is there a way to unlock the phone using a fingerprint without unlocking the phone (should be screen)?

Your question makes no sense at all. You want to unlock the phone... without unlocking the phone?
I don't get it

So you want to unlock the phone via fingerprint without typing on the screen? I still don't see clearly what you mean? If you unlock your phone with your fingerprint, there is no need to type your password unless it doesn't recognize your fingerprint

Sorry for the confusion. Basically, i want to be able to unlock my phone while the screen is off by swiping my finger across the fingerprint reader.

Most likely there is no way.
Your fingerprint reader would most likely eat up a lot of battery because it would have to be on all the time just waiting to read the fingerprint and unlock the phone
So I find it is very not likely that such method exists.

Ok, thanks for the help. Do you know if theres a way to get the navigation bar on the screen and turn off the capacitive buttons?

I know that there are apps and xposed modules to allow a navigation bar. As to disable the capacitive buttons, I'm not sure. There are sure to be some apps or modules to allow you to do that, I'm not sure myself. Never tried to.

Problem with fingerprint scanner

Lately the fingerprint scanner won't unlock the phone. There's no vibration indicating wrong fingerprint, it just does nothing. When I unlock the phone using PIN it works fine opening top notification panel or scrolling through photos. When I go to settings and fingerprints manager it recognizes my fingerprints without a problem. Even when I lock the phone it works well for couple of times but after a while it stops working again.
Have anyone had an issue like that?
I already switched the phone off and on again but it changed nothong.
Any advice besides resetting to factory settings?
Thanks for any help
Hey, I have the same problem with my Honor 7. Did you find any solution?

Are u using something like double tap to lock.
If so, disable it.
Otherwise, go to backup and reset, and reset only settings.
