Hi all,
I recently purchased a Note 8, however when I try to go set the IRIS security option I do not get a red iris recognition LED to the left of the ear piece like the little graphic on screen shows. As a result I keep getting a 'Your irises weren't recognized.' error.
Is there any way to confirm if this is a hardware defect? I have tried restarting and factory resetting my phone but no luck.
Even going to the service menu via *#0*# and running the IRIS service test will not trigger the red recognition LED.
Any thoughts?
Thanks!

Sounds broken. Call Samsung for a warranty replacement.
Iris recognition is a joke, just forget about it and use a password. Sammy iris and fingerprint is nothing short of being easily hackable.

There seem to be several proximity sensor threads but I've done a search and have not found anyone that is having this same problem.
When I make a phone call, my screen turns off right away. I can only get it to come on by pressing the power button or tilting the phone so that a bright light or glare is on the proximity sensor or light sensor. This is a pain. I use my power button to end calls but I have to disable that option. Otherwise, any time I need to use touch tones for an in-call menu, I hang up or spend a minute tilting my phone or holding it up to a light bulb. I know there are workarounds that I could be using but I am wondering if my proximity sensor or light sensor is malfunctioning or if it is a software issue.
Also, when using the visual voice mail app, my screen goes black but not off. I can still see the status bar. It happens as soon as I tap the play button and works just fine after my voice mail stops. This is likely unrelated but I can't be sure.
Thanks in advance to anyone that helps!
Running stock and unrooted with no physical damage or obstruction of sensors. I have tried a factory reset... twice.
I'm having a weird issue with mine as well. Mine is a little different though. If I need to make a call that requires to enter # prompts and as soon as I move the phone away from my face the keypad will start beeping on the other end so the prompts will always get invalid responses. While on the phone and I move the phone away from my face for any reason, the person on the other end will hear the beeping.

It sounds like your issue is hardware related. Take it to a sprint repair store and have it exchanged.

You issue also sounds hardware related. The touchscreen sounds like it is going out. It might be the dialer app but I doubt it. Speaking from experience of course.
I went to Sprint store yesterday and they gave me a replacement for mine.

Thanks I will head to a store and follow up here for anyone else. Thanks again.
I would check the sensor settings and play around before trying the store. But if that doesnt work it prob is hardware issues
When I am in a call, putting the phone to my face turns the screen off using the proximity sensor. However, removing the phone from my face does not turn the screen back on. Nothing turns it back on even if I push all the buttons or hold them or do anything unless the other person hangs up. I cannot remember when it started....before or after the recent update.....but it did start very recently. Any ideas? If I turn off the proximity sensor during calls it works fine by locking and unlocking the screen with the buttons.

Is anything covering the front facing camera, or light sensor? Like a case, bad screen protector, etc....
Does your front facing camera work just fine as a camera?
How about air gestures? Do they work?
I'm asking these things because it seems your proximity sensors aren't working properly. Your phone thinks it's next to your head all the time, so it's not waking the screen until the other person ends call. We need to find out which one is acting up and why.
The front camera works, but in my office it seems VERY sensitive to light. The lights are glaring heavily. I never use the front camera so I don't know if that's normally how it was. Air gestures work when the screen is on (swiping left and right to view my photos), but the quick glance won't work when the phone is locked. The weird thing is that quick glance works when I do the "try it" tutorial only.

Ok now it seems quick glance DOES work when the phone is off....I just couldn't do it correctly.
Main problem still exists though.

I was thinking that, but I'm tempted on resetting my phone and seeing if that helps. The problem is that I would lose all my app data and I'd hate to deal with that.

Unfortunately this sounds like a bad proximity sensor. This can be verified by testing the sensor by dialing *#0*#
I had this happen to my last Note 3. The only difference was I could turn the screen back on with the home button.

I tried that *#0*# test and I can activate the proximity sensor, but it seems to stay on after that.
This is a known issue with our phone. I had this issue myself. Plenty of times. Just call ATT and ask for a replacement.
Yeah I just found this:
http://forums.androidcentral.com/sa...-3-proximity-sensor-issue-during-calls-5.html
It's not a software issue use canned air and blow by the speaker and the headphone jack als o press on the back of the phone . This has happened to me

i stumbled upon this thread and took my phone apart and sure enough there was lint in it. in the dial pad using the *#0*# method, when i covered the sensor the screen would light green, vibrate, and stay that way after i moved my hand away. i cleaned it and everything is perfect!!!

Hi, there might be some problem with my note 8.
I activate the instant unlock without swiping the lock screen for the iris recognition unlock.
the problem is something the iris camera will not shows up on the screen after i swipe up to check on the position of my eyes. it said 'if this keeps happening, please restart your phone'.
I wondering anything cause the iris camera not to appear on the screen.
The iris scanner still works well on capture my irises to unlock the phone, it is just that the iris camera do not appears on the screen (the one with the two circle to position your eyes).

Try factory resetting the device and check if the issue is still there. If yes, take the device to the samsung store for replacement. Mine works flawlessly. Much better than S8+ actually.

Tried factory reset it... still the same.
The iris scanner have no problem unlocking my phone, it is just that the iris camera with the two circles does not appear on the screen when iris scanner activated.
Strange thing is happening recent to me...
Namely, while using headphones while talking on the phone, the unit gets unlocked while in pocket and problems arise with spontaneous keys getting activated.
If even cannot be explicitly locked by pressing the power button.
Have not found a solution to this problem, and it's strange why the proximity sensor does not work in pocket.
Cannot remember whether this was previously, or is it since last ROM upgrade.
Anyone having same problem?

Yep I have the same thing... Today my pocket took 9599295 pictures and movies.. also when I'm a bit sweat my pocket dial random numbers. I've noticed that when screen is touched and disnt recognize fingerprint then whole lockscreen shows up and its easy way to random open dial or camera... Its rly anoying, because I dont want to hide phone screen outside of the skin. (Its easier to break screen if I hit something with my leg.)
Dunno why it doesnt use proximity sensor to recognize that phone is in the pocket like every other brand... :/
Do you have the double tap to wake up activated?
I had this problem a while ago and it was the double tap that played all kinds of tricks calling emergency and taking pictures in my pocket! Disable double tap to wake up screen and the problem goes away.
Disable the fingerprint icon on when the screen if off.

Tried everything but the problem is eventually still there. Actually I've found a bug, namely the display will wake up once touched several times near the center of the fingerprint reader. Try it yourself.
Not nice - cannot avoid to happen it sometimes even if all options are disabled.

I didn't have this problem. If I try now and touch the part with the scanner, doesn’t have to be just the centre of the scanner, rapidly around ten times the lock screen will turn on, but nothing happens when I touch the shortcuts. Perhaps they are disabled, so the only thing that happens if the scanner is touched again is that the numpad to unlock with pin appears.
This is not good as it may severely affect battery life if it happens a lot. This clearly must be a bug!

Even worse, since it is happening all the time while on a call via BT and my phone is in the pocket. I am now thinking about to switch over to my old MI8...
Cannot understand why the keyboard is not disabled in the pocket. Seems so easy to do it but it's as it seems on.

My only solution was to buy a flip case. At first, I disabled the fingerprint reader by removing all fingerprints and setting up face recognition, but this didn’t fix the problem you are talking about. I don’t really like flip cases, but the Nillkin QIN Smartcase is rather good.
So now I ‘m eagerly awaiting a fix from Xiaomi so I can strip the Mi9 again!

Disabling the fingerprint icon has no effect on the problem we are talking about here. The only way to make the problem go away is to remove all the stored fingerprints thus disabling the use of fingerprints all together. This will shut off the fingerprint sensor doing away with this problem in a crude way.
If you really are looking for a setting, please use the search function at the top of the settings.

Thanks for the prompt reply. I don't have the problem and just wanted to know where I can disable the fingerprint icon. Thanks again.
New uppdate out that include Pocket Mode. MIUI-V10.2.27.0PFAEUXM EEA version.
Received my Navy blue FE yesterday, and its all working pretty well. I noticed that the Blue Light filter works just fine while the phone is unlocked and is use but the Lock Screen maintains the bright blueish tint which means the filter is not working on the lock screen. My S10, which I will be mailing in sometime next week, keeps the filter on all the time including on the lock screen. Anyone else having this issue? Also, anyone have a link to a good ultra thin TPU case for the FE? Most of the one's I have found on Amazon look hideous or will take a month to get here. Thanks.
I noticed the same with the blue light filter not being active in the lockscreen on my Snapdragon 5G EU Model.
So it may be a software bug?
Annoys the hell out of me, especially at night or when waking up. I submitted a bug report.
Its because of the optic fingerprint scanner. Oneplus phones are the same
This is a side effect of using the optical fingerprint scanner.
Does the S10 use the same sensor, cuz the Blue Light filter works fine on the lock screen on my S10 which I will have to send in this week as my trade-in device.
When I try to submit a bug report, I choose GMAIL and it just creates an email with the bug report attached but its addressed to myself. What is the email address to send it to Samsung? Thanks.
Nevermind, I figured it out. Thanks.

No. S10 uses an ultrasonic sensor while the S20 FE uses an optical sensor.
I turned off my fingerprint unlock and lo and behold, the blue light filter works on the lock screen. That means that the filter is disabled in order for the fingerprint scanner to function. Bummer. Guess it's either use the fingerprints scanner and be blinded in the dark with a bright lock screen or use pattern unlock and have a lock screen blue light filter. Sigh......

Has anyone problem with AOD? Even that I have the finger print sensor disabled, the blue light filter seems to not work on AOD. On lockscreen, it works properly.

Hi, I could not view the attachment. Could you please tell me what response it is that you got from Samsung? Can the blue screen filter be activated somehow even if I use the fingerprint scanner?
Basically, if you enable Blue light filter, it changes the screen lighting too much to use the finger prints scanner. So that's why it's disabled. If you turn it off finger prints unlock, your lock screen will stay yellow instead of momentarily disabling your blue light filter. So, it's either one or the other. I reattached the response they sent me.

Just turn on AoD. You can unlock straight from it, and it can be really dim for nights, the only part that lights up is the finger part itself.
