I was thinking the same thing...
You can use the app 'bxactions' to configure what apps to open when you double click the bixby button. Close enough I guess.

Do we have any options for additional functionality from long-press of buttons?
- Long press Vol +/- for track seek (doesn't work with Poweramp with the app settings set for long press volume for next/previous track)
- Long press <anything> for foreground app kill
I'm sure there are other functions people want.. but these are my main two..

Use Home2 Shortcut from the Play Store to remap all the hardware buttons - double tap and long press are supported on all the hardware and capacitive buttons as far as I can tell.

Only thing I can do with this app it seems is launch apps with long-press and double-tap. Not what I was looking for, but thanks anyways.

If you find an app that allows me yo launch an application from a single tap of the home button (in place of launcher) please let me know.

Turns out Nova does what I want
I needed to launch an app instead of the launcher with a single press of the home button.
I created a Tasker app that launches a certain Launcher app (Nova or launcher3) based on whatever context I choose (my work shift hours and @ home hours)
I set the home button to launch this and it works flawlessly - it's like having two separate phones
I think more people should try to do this. Imagine having a completely different home screen based on whatever context you want.. In the car, at work, certain times of the day, docked undocked.

I've search the Note 8 forums, found similar but not specific to root. I'm wondering now that we have root can we replace the double tap home quick launch Samsung camera with a different app, specifically the ported gcam with HDR auto. Also wondering if it can be set to work with the screen locked like the built in camera. Perhaps an app exists and I'm just not finding it.
I have put the camera as my lockscreen shortcut but it still requires unlock to run. Coming from the Pixel, I find the gcam app to get me images much more similar to Pixels quality vs what comes out of Samsung's camera.
You dont even need root, you can use one of the various ways to remap bxby. Personally I have my bixby button remapped to 1 click is camera, double click is google now, and longpress is torch. works with screen off too, so its very handy. I did this with BK Disabler to disable bixby and bxActions to remap the button. Note: you can leave bixby enabled if you so choose and yuou can still have one click be bixby as normal if you like, then double tap camera. - EDIT : I just saw you wanted a different app, while I have mine set as default camera, I would assume there are already routes to use others as well.
I think the OP is asking if it's possible to remap the camera shortcut. OP stated double tap home for camera but that's how it was on my Note 5. On the Note 8 the double tap camera shortcut is the power button. I don't think there is a way to remap that with an app, not that I have seen anyway. I believe that shortcut is a part of the actual camera app.

I've disabled bixby butt when I long press I still get bixby little box come up and ruins my screenshot.. I've disabled bixby butt still get bixby little box on screenshot .. any help plz

No, not with stock software.
Double press volume down I think it is activates camera though, even when locked.

Officialy not but here on XDA i an app which allow remap button but i think you need root

If your on PIE, the new Bixby version gives the option to remap the key to single or double press actions.
You can set up a Bixby command to open Google Assistant when you single press the button.
If on oreo you can use bxactions.

In short, I don't think this is possible. Whether with root or not.
What you want is basically the opposite of what everyone else on this forum has been trying to do for the last two years. You want an even more easier way to open Bixby, while everyone else has been trying to get rid of it, entirely. Basically, no one has been looking into or developing ways of using Bixby more or easier, only ways to get rid of it.

On my Chinese ROM I have enabled the power button double click to launch camera. This feature I use all the time. However when I double click it launches the camera immediately followed by Smart Card (MIsmartcards). I have been unable to disable this app nor can I uninstall this app.
How can I get rid of this or at least not get it triggered by the power button double click? Thanks in advance.
