Hey all.
Just wanted to ask a question. I lost my Note 8 charger, the output seems to be identical on Note 4 and Note8 chargers.
Is there an issue if I use Note 4 charger to charge my Note8 ?
Regards!

Nope. It will just charge slower.

Wasn't the Note 4 fast charging as well? If output is the same, why would it be slower?
OP, you will need to use the appropriate adapter included with your note 8 to plug the older charger into the new usb-c plug on the Note 8.
I'm using my note 4 charger with my note 8 and no issues. It takes about 1 hrs and a half to charge full (I have the fast charge turned off ).
Only reason for the note 4 charger because I bought the note 8 international version and I can't use the power brick here. And yes the voltage is the same on both chargers.
note 4 was the first iteration of quick charge.
We aren't on the first iteration anymore

You can always use a standard travel adapter with the original power plug too if you ever need it.
Am i missing something ? Bothe Note 4 and Note8 support Quick Charge 2.0. The specs of the charger are exactly the same , so I guess the chargers are identical !

Because Samsung scared, even the battery capacity has been reduced...
I plugged a usb 2 to C adapter onto my old Note 5 charger (rather the one that came with the original Fast Charge wireless puck charger) and with this my Note 8 will not fast charge.
The wireless fast charging works on the old puck though.

Hi,
Getting an EU version of the Note, so I need to buy a Uk charger, is the charger for the Note and Galaxy S2 compatible? Thinking buying a 3rd party Galaxy S2 charger on ebay.
Many thanks
I suspect any 5v microusb charger delivering over 0.5A will be fine.
Expansys sent me a standard HTC one (5v 1A) with my german note and I am in the UK.
Thanks, I have a couple of generic USB wall chargers at home, so might as will use them with the Note.
I can't answer the question directly, but that big screen, fast processor and larger battery are going to take a bit more juice than your average phone, including the S2. When it comes to mains chargers that may not be a big deal, unless you leave the phone active while charging, but might become an important consideration if trying to use the phone for satnav in the car, for example.
At the moment I'm using an Orange San Francisco. That has a 3.5" OLED screen and a 600MHz single core processor, so hardly an energy guzzler. The supplied charger is rated at .7A. In the car, when using satnav, my generic USB car charger cannot quite keep pace with the energy demands of that little phone and the battery level actually drops slowly while connected to power in the car. I'm definitely going to be looking for something more robust for the Note.
Note charger is 1 amp, Nexus S .7 amp, Note charges fine off the .7 amp charger.
I assume a standard Samsung GS charger would do, the output on it is 0.7A?

Surprise, my car charger was not good enough for the S2 while using nav software, but the Note charges nicely.

So could I use my Samsung Galaxy S charger with my note (that I will order soon) or shall I purchase this

... the above is 1000mA... is that enough?
Or should I just purchase a Euro/Worldwide adapter to UK plug?

You not only need a charger that can deliver more oomph, but also a lead or charger, possibly modified, that will allow the phone to draw that current. I have 1A USB chargers for the car but a regular data/charging lead only permits the phone to charge at the standard USB maximum current of 0.5A. I had to open up one of my chargers and solder the two centre pins together. Shorting those two pins signals to the phone that it can draw the full "mains" current rather than the 0.5A USB maximum.
I haven't yet charged the Note in the car, but on my previous phone the charging status would show "Charging (USB)" prior to the mod and once modded it would show "charging (AC)", which is what you need to keep the phone charged and charging while in use rather than slowly depleting.

I can confirm that SGS2 charger works on note. However charging is slow ( its 0.7 A )
However the note charger ( 1.0 A) charges faster
dont have a 2 A charger to test but I would say that it would be the same speed as 1 A charger.
If we want faster charging, we will need the kernel to modified.
The downside would be shorter battery life.

Would it work to get an adapter from the European plug that comes with the note to US outlet?

Thing is would the USB cable that comes with the note (designed for computers) be suitable in carrying 1000mAh?
I heard that USB cables that come with phones are 0.5mAh so it won't make use of the 1000mAh...
Can anyone confirm this? If so then it's better to buy an out and out 1000mAh plus wall charger or a worldwide travel adapter.

That's also what I want to know.
There is no reason why it wouldn't work. It's just like going on holiday... US plugs to Euro/UK etc
So that's the route I will end up taking. But I may purchase an out and out 1000mAh wall plug anyway... even a 2000mAh...

yes it will work fine, because the charger accepts 100-220vac 50/60Hz
The Samsung power adaptor that comes with the Note is a Universal one (110 Volts - 240 Volts) and is rated at 5 Volts 1 Amp output.
If you need an alternative for some reason (or a spare).........
Personally, I am using a generic iPad mains adaptor with dual USB sockets. The device was made in China and has a total current output of up to 2 Amps. It is a also a worldwide model. I think it charges faster than the Samsung charger.
It also charges the Note when using the MHL>HDMI output. I have read some postings that the Note very slowly loses charge when the MHL>HDMI adaptor (which has to be externally powered) is in use. With this 2A adaptor, it continues to charge.
You could also try the Genuine iPad adaptor that also works worldwide and delivers a genuine 1 Amp rather than some of the cheapie models that struggle to supply that current.
has anyone noticed that the note 4 charges in about 1 hr to 1.5 hours max to fully charged? i have or is something up for it charging so fast?
Standard feature on the Note 4. If u look ad the adapter it's putting out 9 volts.

It's not bad at all, you can still use any cell phone charger to charge the Note 4
just like we have done when we had the Note 3.
The thing I am wondering about is if can safely use the new Note 4 wall charger
to charge other peripherals like mice, keyboards, wireless headsets and so on.
I used to use the samsung S3, S4 and note 3's wall charger to charge lot's of things.

The batteries are chipped. Phones are chipped. And even the adapter has a chip. You can use your note 4 charger to charge any device. It just won't give the full output as other devices will tell it not to. etc.etc.

Yes the note 4 cable will be the same. Any standard micro usb should work but if you want Samsung specific Amazon has them on the cheap. The Note 3 is only different because of the USB 3.0 but actually a standard micro USB cable will work on the Note 3 as well. But again, virtually any store that sells phones or computer peripherals should have cables that will work.
Yes any micro USB cable will work. However, if you want to charge your battery with quick charge 2.0/adaptive fast charge then you need a cable with thicker gauge wire.
I have tried 'A1 SD Bench' to test my Note 8 with a 512GB Samsung T3 SSD.
The best results I can get is:
Read: 33.42MB/s
Write: 35.57MB/s
I have tried the following connections:
- Direct USB-C to USB-C
- Note 8 <-> USB-C all-in-one hub <-> USB-A to USB-C cable <-> Samsung T3 SSD
- Note 8 <-> Original Samsung USB-C to USB-A female <-> USB-A to USB-C cable <-> Samsung T3 SSD
Any ideas how to get full USB 3.1 transfer speeds?

It charges slow but it's very consistent at temperature management. The device does not heat up like the ones using other fast charge technologies. I just read a comparison article and Samsung's version is definitely not the fastest, but it's definitely one of the cooler ones.

The OP isn't asking about charging speed, he's asking about data transfer over USB.
I have USB 3.0 and 3.1 type A ports on my desktop PC and using a 3.1 Type C to Type A cable it's very clearly much faster than using the cable in the box, which does appear to be usb 2.0 wired.

Yeah I rarely use my phone when it is charging. I use pushbullet on my computers so I wont miss a text or call. I compare the charging speeds of Note 8 to the Note 4 in the morning charging. The Note 8 will not be charged in an hour whereas the Note 4 easily did it. Sorry OP. I'm done.
That brings the question: how do you tell which cable is really wired for USB 3? And what's the difference? Wires have to be the same, is it just shielding? I would imagine due to higher frequency, if signal is not clear it would negotiate lower transfer rate?
I have couple USB wires from Note 7, maybe those are better made?
And is the phone really capable of accepting data anywhere near full USB 3 speeds?

I found an article that states USB-C hubs downgrading speeds to USB 2.0 so I guess thats one of the main reasons the DEX is also limited to 2.0 speeds.
https://gtrusted.com/samsung-galaxy-s8-seems-to-downgrade-usb-3-1-hubs-speeds
I however cannot get USB 3.1 speeds even when using a direct USB-C to USB-C link.
If the Note 8 is not capable of utilizing the full speed of USB 3.1 speeds then I'm quite disappointed.
One of things I really wanted to do was backup DSLR pics from SD cards to SSD rapidly without a laptop whilst on travel.

It turns out the USB-C to USB-C cable I got is not usb-3.1 spec:
https://www.amazon.co.uk/d/B06Y4N4K9Z
The USB-C to USB-A cable I got that came with the Samsung T3 SSD is definitely USB3.1 spec so Samsung USB-C to USB-A female adapter is probably USB2.0 speeds.
And according to the article going through a hub also limits the connection to USB2.0 so I'll either need a new USB-C to USB-C 3.0 cable or USB-C to USB-A 3.0 female adapter to do further testing.
