Phantom screen touches after replacing display - Huawei P9 Plus Questions & Answers

Bought a display, frame and battery replacement kit for my P9 Plus. Moved across the motherboard, speaker, cameras etc and put it back together. The phone works fine, but I sometimes experience phantom touch events. If I open chrome and go to a web page with lots of links and just leave it it will start "clicking" on an article all by itself. Same happens in Facebook app. If I just leave it few a few seconds it will start "clicking" random links.
Other apps do not experience this. I've even tried multiple "drawing" or touch test apps and they never experience this. Seems it is mostly chrome or app using the web browser component (like facebook). Any ideas? I've open the phone and double checked all connections.

Is it me or is RSS Hub buggy

Anyone experience 2-3 seconds of freezing/hanging when coming out of an article back to the headline list? This makes RSS Hub so frustrating to use, which is a shame because it is otherwise perfect. I do a lot of offline reading when on the London Underground...
When you say you can use it offline does it download the full articles for offline viewing or just the summaries? I just tried but it loads opera and seems to need a connection. I didn't have any problems with it freezing though.

Yes it fetches news every hour and I read offline while on the underground (no phone reception).
I have well over 60 channels split into different catagories. This was a problem with newsbreak (stand alone version, same software) for me on the Original HTC Touch, but back then I put it down to my slow touch - now the same issue affects my touch diamond. Its clearly a bug - but makes the software very frustrating to use.
I have accidentaly DELETED RSS hub
I have deleted this program and looked for it in those CDs but could not find it.
Any idea where I can find a download for this application?
Thanks
search around the forums i have seen the .cab

Yes, it's still a problem and you are right. That's the exact issue. You read an article, then go back to the feed list and it pauses. Mine just jumped to 30+ seconds. I can actually kill the task and restart the app faster with wktask than waiting for it (which is nuts).
feature wise, It's the best simple rss reader so far I can find (let's you email yourself the links, so you can look on PC), and I would totally keep it if it weren't for the crazy pauses. The problem is I think the app is dead in development and I haven't found another app with the same ease of use to see what is new, update on demand (not auto) and email the article links.
Nuts.
I think the pauses only happen while you have a live connection on a feed that has a logo. It can get stuck a few seconds retrieving the logo. I don't have any delay when I read RSS offline, and when I'm online it may freeze for a couple of seconds on feeds where there is a logo (like Space.com).
I've been using NewsBreak for a while and now RSS Feed on my Diamond and HD, it's the same software built into the ROM. So far both behave the same, it doesn't matter which you use. So I use the one on ROM and save some storage.

[Q] Linux like workspace switcher/screen splitter

I wanted to know since the tab has a screen that is 3x as big as a Galaxy S (3 phones put side by side on the tab) is there an app or a home launcher or something that will allow me to have multiple things running on different screens.
For example, I need to take information from one document and organize with another and I can easily switch between them on Windows and Linux.
I then need to tag along to other places and want to continue to edit both documents on my tab, I have to keep opening one document then remember a sentence or piece of information for a second and close that document and open the second one to continue typing it up.
It is a real hassle and very time consuming and frustrating. Our tabs are pretty big and I would like to utilize it to the fullest of its capabilities as a tablet/big smartphone.
What my suggestion is if anyone feels like making an app that I can do just this and more on my tab, they couod design an app that works like the home screen.
For instance you open a document, email, or webpage and want to look at another document or note you made for yourself or another email. All you do is swipe to the left or right and it is a clear home screen or something to that effect or maybe a list of documents, notes, emails, webpages you can open. You then choose/open what you need and can continue with the first page having the second one open for reference or whatever the case may be.
You can then easily switch between the 2 or however many pages you have opened just by swiping the screen just like you would your homescreen.
If someone knows of such an app or had the resources to make one please let me know.
Also this would make for a great multi-tasking app if made correctly.
What might be an issue here is that most programs themselves are going to detect the loss of focus and handle things. Either saving/reverting to front screen/closing down completely, or leaving things up and running.
I can see what you're after, more a 'cards' type thing, and it might be possible, but you'd have to override what the OS is sending to the apps (don't send the lose focus thing), or get the apps to handle things differently.
Either going to be impossible, or trivial. And even if it was possible to be hacked, apps are going to be assuming their running and might use more power. The way it works at the moment is to assume you're being shut down, and handle that gracefully so you're using minimal resources on a phone.
If one were to change how android handles the multi-tasking, would this sort of app be possible?
Another question is, are there any document editors that can do something like this?
I have an iPod Touch and an app named iFile, and it has multi-window type thing that I am describing where I can open many pages and view many documents at a time.
That's the main thing I want it for, editing documents without having to open and close constantly.
I was thinking of this the other day. This would be something you'd have to build into a ROM. It'd be a nice mod, and since Android already takes screenshots for the recent apps bar, it wouldn't be too hard to implement once the source is released. My thought is it would be a four or five finger gesture left or right. It could possibly zoom out similar to how the screens zoom when you drag an icon on the launcher so that the other tasks could be visible at the same time. The normal activity lifecycle would continue as usual (i.e. onPause() would be called as soon as the gesture starts, and onStop() once the activity is off the screen). A screenshot would be used in place of the actual Activity until the gesture is over (meaning the Activity has "snapped" into place).

Love the watch, disappointed with some addon apps

I love the Galaxy Gear. I love the native apps on the watch. However, while a few of the add-on apps are good, I am disappointed some of the others are poor.
I recognize some of the physical design shortcomings of the Gear, but accept the product as it is. In my mind, the watch is not a sport watch, it is a little computer on my wrist. I accept that I need to take reasonable precautions to guard it from water exposure, cold shock and physical impact (caution with glass bezel).
The native apps are fabulous. They are what I consider essential in making the device a truly smart watch (swatch). Overall, it allows me to interact with the smart phone (sphone) upon urgent events: answering phone calls, reading text messages, notification on email, controlling media player while walking, monitoring distance and pace while running. The native watch faces are even good: review of weather or accessing any three apps. Of course, the camera is a huge bonus - not essential, but it truly makes the Gear a distinctive swatch. The inclusion of a speaker for phone calls is an outstanding feature, again this is handy when receiving a call while walking.
The issue I want to make in this thread is my experience with the add-on apps. A few of the apps are excellent and add value to the overall swatch experience (eg: Runtastic). However, some other apps are poorly coded, or outright fail to install or work. It astonishes me that some apps fail to work, given that Samsung has vetted this library of restrictive apps. As I understand it (read elsewhere), Samsung had exclusively invited developers to code apps for the Gear. I presume Samsung would also test these apps prior to including them in the download library. Well, I now suspect they may not have.
I am also disappointed at how slowly apps are being added into the library. I appreciate that the user base for Gear is small and thus revenue opportunities are assuredly small. However, any developer that introduces apps for the library could develop early expertise, etc. However, reality shows that third party apps are few and sometimes even disfunctional.
------------------------------------------------------------------------- GREAT APPS
Four apps in particular work very well and add value to the swatch experience:
RUNTASTIC
- Shows running performance (pace, distance, etc) on watch
EVERNOTE
- Read notes, checklist etc on watch when shopping etc.
- Upload camera photos to user account for later use.
POCKET
- Play audio reading of previously saved internet articles.
ZDCLOCK
- Set alarms, etc.
------------------------------------------------------------------------- POOR APPS
I tried with frustration and disappointment a few other apps.
MyFitnessPal
- This works, but it forces a very lengthy synchronization with sphone and internet on each access.
- The delay caused by syncing is so frustrating that I uninstalled it, and refuse to use it.
RunKeeper
- This works, but it displaces far less performance data than Runtastic.
- Because of its inadequacy, I uninstalled it.
QuickSpeedometer
- This app fails to install. This failed on numerous attempts.
Mini Gallery
- This app fails to install. This failed on numerous attempts.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
I've got mini gallery installed on my 'swatch' and it's never failed yet.
Works well and runs without fault.
Although I have mini gallery installed and it works (sort of), I have over 400 images on my 64 gig card and mini gallery is so ridiculously slow to load (even after the first time) it is virtually unuseable.
My favorite add on is watch styler it totally makes this watch worthwhile to me. I can make my own face, how awesome is that! Got one with the same wallpaper as my phone got my white and red jumpman (Jordan logo) got my Rolex background and I'm just getting started.
Man I love this watch.
Carried by a Raven
watch styler is one of the apps that I consider useless LOL.
Not only is the hour hand always off on a custom face, it freezes up constantly and kills battery life.
My main annoyance with a specific app is miniSquare. It boggles my mind that this app has been broken since day one with no removal or developer communication. Literally no one can use the app, as it only brings up a Korean error.
As a big fourquare user, I really really want this app to work.
Aside from that, I'm still on the negative side as far as my feelings on the marketplace go. Hopefully that changes in the future.

MINI GALLERY
-------------------
OK, taking your lead, I made another attempt to install Mini Gallery. Nope, it failed to install yet again. Or maybe not? So what happened is that it finally appeared to install and appeared on the Gear. However it seemed to freeze on the watch. After waiting for a couple of minutes I rebooted the Gear and uninstalled it.
Now, after reading your note, I see what might have happened. It was busy scanning my s-phone's thousands of photos stored on my extSDcard. Well then, demanding such a long wait time makes it unusable for me.
QUICK SPEEDOMETER
------------------------------
This app is by the same developer, Symphony Teleca. I tried installing this again, and this time it did load. This makes me think that Samsung's app server might instead be sending a link to the developer's server for downloading. Is this possible? I have only had previous difficulty download the two apps from the same developer.
The app does work. Good. However, I notice something irregular. Only when this app is run on the Gear, its duplicate app appears on the Note-3's notification window as an actively running task. That is because this app needs to poll the s-phone's GPS for data updates, so I presume the developer launches a GPS server service on the s-phone, while on the s-watch is a client service. Later when I stop and quit the app on the Gear, its server app remains active on the Note-3. I must then resort to killing the task on the Note-3 to recover system resources.
I have a suspicion that this might be the fault of Samsung's SDK library and not that of a developer's sloopy program techniques. Regardless, good programming practice, SDK, and libraries should never leave a thread active after the main program has terminated.
On the contrary my boy Watson.

Exactly.
The gallery probably works fine if you don't have a ton of images on your MicroSD card, but I just realized I have over 800 images in just one of multiple folders on my 64 gig card.

widget for speed dial contacts

I got myself this cover:
http://www.sonymobile.com/global-en/products/accessories/style-cover-window-scr42/
i now I cannot seem to find a widget or an app of some sort that would allow to call at least my favourite contacts (if the whole phone book is a problem) with the cover closed. There is an app for the clock, calendar, music, but no contacts? Am I missing it, is there a third party app? It is somewhat annoying to open the cover just to make a call.
Never heard about such, but this would be good for me too. On other hand almost used to open cover for calls.
I didn't even consider that it would not be available. It's the main Phone function. And usually nobody needs a 5 inch screen to make a call. On the other hand my mums S6 has this and am even more frustrated. Hopefully somebody will soon come up with something.
I've got the SCR42. I agree that the speed dial widget would be a great idea. However, I I don't think it would work because the widget system with this cover seems rather pointless to me. If you try to tap on any of the widgets it tells you to open the cover anyway to get to the app, so even if there was a speed-dial widget you would have to touch it and then open the cover to unlock and then it would take you to speed dial.
I assume that this is for security reasons but makes the SCR42 widget idea rather pointless.
Not True. Camera works. Also it is not impossible to make calls with cover closed. My car Bluetooth does it all the time.
Those with the src-42 have issues when answering with the cover closed? The "Swype to hang" button on screen keeps going forwards and backwards bleeping as well. Should not the screen go off straight away when nearing it to the ear?

New Unified Microsoft Office App Supports Dual Screen

Was just re-reading a chapter from my dissertation and went to go read it in the new Office app (unified Word, PP, Excel, Sticky Notes, and Office Lens + some other stuff). Planning on reading while changing songs in Spotify I opened the document and three finger swiped to send it to the secondary screen and it sent the document but kept the home menu on the main screen. If I open another document it does close the previous document on the secondary screen and open the new document on the primary screen. If I close the menu on the main screen to open another app, leaving the document on the main screen, it'll keep the document up as if the app was started on the second screen. I think Microsoft is starting to add dual screen support to their apps and lucky for us some of that code seems to work on the G8X. I think whatever code allows this is the same code that makes it so that on Samsung Dex and other Android desktops it open the document in a new app window vs in the same app window as the menu. I've noticed this behavior in a few Microsoft apps but nowhere else in Dex. I'm sure others have discussed this but it seems like LG basically treats the other screen as an external monitor which take up every new "window" apps produce or is produced by the system when you open something on the second screen. This might also be why other launchers don't work because they can't/don't produce new "windows" that can be put there. Anyways, sorry for ranting on but this is super interesting to me. Thoughts (especially from developers who might actually know the nuts and bolts of this)? Edit: I did a bit more investigation with other MS office apps on Android and none of them exhibit this same behavior even the Word app which on Dex I believe does pop a new window when opening documents like the Office app. Obviously this throws my later theory about windows into doubt.
