Have you checked your APN settings (Connections>More networks>Mobile networks>Access Point Names)? Mine pictured and http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=59903910&postcount=18 either one works. Since you are on 4.3 ever thought of upgrade to 4.4.2 or higher?

So you have a T817W not a T917W model as shown in your question title eh?
I have the T817W with Bell, but managed to root and installed even the Xposed on it with the help from Ashyx.
Please read message #270 from here, but you may want to read a few more pages back. There are a lot of good information there that helped me. You will have yours rooted at no time. My LTE still works fine too.

Rooted with Xposed, and still have LTE here too.

with kikat this work (but i don't know lollipop)...
you need root and sqlite editor
-open with sqlite editor /data/user/0/com.android.providers.settings/databases/settings.db
-now go in systemex and find "hw_networkmode_preference" value and edit the numbers of this line with the one you want
Code:
9 - gsm/wcdma/lte
3 - gsm/wcdma
11 - lte only
2 - wcdma only
1 - gsm only
12 - wcdma/lte
-reboot the phone

Hi, I have same model from Taiwan, 64Gb version I bought from ebay.
What I did was install CROM from the Samsung app store to enable installation of customer roms. Then you have to go to developers options and enable OEM Unlock and USB Debug.
Then you flash CF-Autoroot via Odin. I installed a different version since I didn't find one that matched my phone version and I had no problems.
If you cannot find CROM in the Samsung app store, google the apk and install it.
To enable Developer option, go to settings > General and tap multiple times the software version, or something there, I don't remember very well which one, but you will see a counter saying something like "tap X more times to enable developer menu."
I hope it works for you, too.

Here is the links from my Google Drive:
CF-Autoroot: https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B3xPBTglKzZ1cVB1TDNmOGN4Yms
Note 5 CROM: https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B3xPBTglKzZ1Z2czTlo0NUV1ck0
CROM comes in Taiwanese, just install and open it. I did this a year ago, so I don't remember if you have anything like "Accept" and "Decline", maybe yes, but I don't know how to read that in Taiwanese.
Good luck mate! Hope you don't have any issues, I didn't have any. BTW, although CROM won't kill knox, CF-Root will certainly do it.
Cheers!

Security patches do not block your ability to unlock the bootloader on the F/FD variants

Thank you guys for your answers, but im still not sure if i can root, one says yes and one says no. I have a SM-960F/DS, thats whats written on the package but in settings there is only written SM-960F (i bought it from a famous electronic market so its no fake but i really dont know why in settings there is no DS at the end of the modelnumber)
i have android 8.1.0
Samsung experience version 9.5
basebandversion: N960FXXU2ARJ1
android safety patch: 1st November
Can i root it? If you need any more information pls tell me

Everyone in this thread says yes, not sure why you're doubting it.
The dual sim model uses F firmware and shows F in settings, it's normal. It's just an F model really with 2 sims.
Ok thank you all, i was not sure because the "root away" post, though he meant the chance of rooting is away. Thank you all, i will root now ?
in dev options, can you still see OEM unlock?
its toggled on?
then just root.
