Music apps album art display on landscape head units - Android Auto General

Hi all,
Is there any audio app that correctly displays album artwork on a lanscape head unit?
I have a Ford which like most cars has a landscape screen, but android auto seems to be designed to run on a vertical device when it comes to music, i.e. it x shows the middle part of the album art only.
I'm debating resizing all of my artwork to have the cover art all in the middle of a black box so it shows right, but that's a real faf.
Any ideas?

Would the Captivate video out work okay on a 7" 234x480 screen?

Im thinking about adding a 7" lcd screen to my truck to act as a backup monitor and a larger lcd for GPS. I'd like to connect my Captivate to the lcd and using it for larger, set top viewing of the gps.
Would this work fine in terms of using the video out for gps only? http://www.ecbuys.com/car-lcd-and-c...-tft-lcd-car-headrest-color-monitor-p-52.html

Standard TV video - is 480 lines of resolution - so anything that can emulate a tv monitor (it has TV video in) should display fine. You will get the entire Captivate desktop on your TV - every move to every app is shown - just like having a bigger phone - but you have to touch the smaller screen.

Perfect that is what I need. I will be using the larger screen just to view the GPS and view the video player. I have microsoft sync in my truck and it streams bluetooth audio superbly, but it doesnt show who the artists is on the radio screen. So having a larger lcd on the dash for viewing song info/google navigator, pandora, and using for a backup camera would be great. I did a mockup of how big it would be and where I would put it here:

I think this would be a pretty sweet setup!
one thing to keep in mind - you will want some type of rotation lock feature - this is built in to 2.2. The autorotate is copied to the external screen, so portrait mode on the phone will give you black bars left and right on the right on the screen. You will probably want to lock the screen in landscape mode when connected to your monitor.
Ah yes I am running Cognition Beta 2.2. so I have the option. Good point

NICE! Thank you much.
It'd be nice if it had an actual name and icon.

"We did run into an occasional bug and forced closures but otherwise it’s quite functional, despite its alpha status".
A name and icon are in the works. Give it some time.
The app worked great...just looking forward to it's further development.

Yes I saw that, I was just stating.

Here's the file I downloaded after following all the links. I guess its ok to post it.
If you're on Twitter, it's probably worth following the guy for updates. I did.
Same here, following dev on twitter.
As indicated above next alpha should include an icon.
probably not the right place, but I'll post my short blurb anyway.
like:
- clean uncluttered, only necessary information and buttons.
- fast, flipping between pages are nice.
- the typography
- how artist, album, etc is organized using alphabetical/large font is refreshing.
dislike (mostly related to smartphone to tablet screen scaling)
- I know this is for smartphone player, but when in "play mode" screen, the progress bar is only the size of small album cover. It's too small for practical use. Everything clumped together at bottom screen leaving huge empty space up top. (looks like something is wrong when there is no background image.) Maybe load a "default blank" image when there is no album image?
- bigger play/pause/next screen buttons? button size is too small for comfortable clicking for tablet. I think it's also mis-aligned. or at least the placement of buttons is spread out of context, not below the album cover in tablet screen. (maybe slice the screen into 4 quadrants, and fit all album/players controllers on bottom left corners)
- (setting is still blank. yeah I know work in progress)
- when inside "play screen", once getting out to browsing screen while playing, it's not possible to quickly get back to play screen without retracing path from song title. Also How about if I double/triple tap on the big image in play screen, It will bring me back to main browsing screen. How about scroll side to side? (play screen -- side swipe - browsing screen.)
- back button only bring me to previous screen. (so if I jump out of player, and back into play screen, if I hit back button, it will throw me out to external screen. and I have no way to get back to main browsing screen without relaunching the player.)
wish list ( I post one anyway.):
- button and font color option?
- in tablet, the super low rest/huge background image looks really blotchy for a lot of images. (for human face, it looks like somebody has bad skin disease or something. just ugly.) Can we have option, not downloading external images? force use internal default images.
- less aggressive use of wireless.
- equalizer
- widget
- playlist creation (I think it's still being build)
- a way to alter mp3 file label. (hey, not my music comes from stores. and a lot of my record label promo material has wrong labels. )
- I really liking this as a universal media file manager. How about video, ebook, "social" (as in libre.fm, last.fm, or whatever other social music), simple mp3 blog RSS.
Agreed with you bigbird.
Functionally my biggest issue is going back, especially when you are on a playlist you have to exit to get back.
An on screen back button + a way to get back to main screen quickly I think would be best.
Playlist creator
Scaling stuff could take longer to materialize but yes:
+ Bigger progress bar for Jumping/skipping song on + Bigger buttons
Why don't you send your recommendation to the developer via twitter?
I wish it did what Doubletwist does. If it's at the lockscreen, it shows the primary buttons and makes it click to unlock.
Alpha 3 just out and some of the issues above have already been dealt with. Back button from now playing screen, icon for the app, etc.

Good to see this is being worked on constantly.
how about the sound quality? Is it better than original music player?

I could be wrong but:
1. On the software side audio quality would depend primarily on the encoding quality, i.e. compression type, bps or lossless.
2. Then it would depend on your hardware, mainly the DAC chip inside your device.
3. Your earphones
I would guess on hardware (2) that the Zune since it's a dedicated MP would have a better DAC and audio line path. On the other two it should be the same.
Is anyone else getting audio dropouts on CM7 (beta nightly)
Love everything about this app, but seem to have some audio dropouts and pauses during playback.. Using the beta CM7 build with Dalingrinators OC.
PS. im using DSP to boost volume via eq settings.

I've noticed a couple of tiny pauses at the start of tracks but nothing too distracting. I'm loving the app though (the Zune interface is simply one of the best I've come across) and it complements Launcher 7 perfectly.

I know many of you out there have been waiting for a widget for this, myself included.
The developer has just posted this as a preview for the upcoming next release.

[Q] Khomo NC case/stand and CM7

I purchased a Khomo "deluxe leather case with stand" from Buy.com for $10. Although I own a couple other cases for the NC, I wanted this one because it has a stand built in (just a picture-frame-type flap on the inside of the cover) and also because it does not add a lot of width or length and unlike my other two cases, this one will fit in a big pants pocket - if only barely. It is not leather despite its name - it is plastic. And the stand flap is pretty flimsy, but it does work. To prop the NC vertically, it was necessary for me to trim the flap on one side so it would stand straight up.
However, when the stand is in horizontal position, it is upside down for all the video players I have tried. The NC will work in either horizontal position for most apps and on the homescreens, and even for choosing files inside a video player and for YouTube. But, when you play use a video player or a full-screen landscape mode game, it will only do this in the position with the N button facing right which is upside down for the case. Since one of the things I wanted was to be able to watch movies with the NC in this stand, it is a dealbreaker.
Is the inability of the NC to play landscape games and videos with the N button on the left side a function of the rom? I did not play around with the NC much before loading CM7 so don't know. Or is there some setting I am boneheadedly missing that would allow it?
I could blame the stand since if the flap was mounted 90 deg CCW from where it is, it would work correctly for both horizontal and vertical modes.
I just tried this out for fun but in Cyanogenmod settings, display, tickets the rotate 180 degrees and obviously keep auto rotate active. I just played a video and youtube all 4 ways.
Edit. As for games, no go :/
I noticed this on most apps running stock 1.1. I'll retest on CM7
I'm using the Roocase Easy View landscape - and it works because it has the N button facing right.

Samsung galaxy music issue/ possibly stuck/dead pixels??

I currently own a Galaxy note 8.When using Samsung music I believe I am experiencing some form of screen burn or issues with the actual application. There is grids and circular blocks shaded darker across the whole display that appears on the samsung music app whilst listening to music which appears occasionally. The app may work fine for a small time then it displays the blocks and grids. When scrolling through music landscape there is also random red or blue a dots that appear on the screen however it only happens when I scroll through the albums. At the bottom of the screen there is small blocks present when rotated landscape. Depending on the album art there is also a very slight colour change in small lines on the navbar. As I can screenshot what is on the screen I am assuming it is not an issue with the display but the application. These issues only happen with the Samsung music application.

AA Player Controls

I've recently had to say farewell to my Full Android Head Unit, because of a new car. I've always liked Android head units because of their high degree of configuratibility and freedom of choice.
My factory installed head unit supports AA, but the AA interface lacks any configuration. I really dislike the huge player controls when playing some music. This might not be such a problem in portrait mode, but in landscape mode they are ominous present.
Is there a way to minimize or to hide them and if not, at least a way to make them transparent? I'd really like to see the full album art when a song is playing instead of a big control overlay.
