Coming back to my Ghost (XT1053)... need help! - Moto X Q&A

Hello everyone,
I jumped to a blackberry priv in 2016 due to the physical keyboard, but i find myself gravitating back to my sexy ghost.
Now when i left, we had some solid custom roms, but none had managed to utilize the "wave" properly. I am sincerely hoping we have made it past that point.
I purchased a second XT1053 so i could have spare parts... my original X was used extensively, and it shows... the new phone was used by a senior, is in perfect condition but doesnt have the proper aesthetics.
The plan is to cannibalize the new purchased phone for its parts to restore some life into my old phone.
Things i plan to swap
Back cover
Buttons
Headphone jack
Battery
Back cover
So aside from those, im wondering if XDA would see merit in taking some of the other parts, say ram/mobo/snapdragon, etc. Typically, i do all this type of work myself, but this time im going to do it at a shop who gives me a full year warranty on their work. (new phone if they mess up)
The second ask
What would you say the most well balanced rom is? Right now im looking forward to utilizing my moto x wave and gestures, but also want to remove any bloatware. Ideally, i would like to utilize newer features with minimal slowdown... but i know the phone is limited by its hardware.
All i can say is, im so hype to be back on this phone.

About to upgrade

I am about to upgrade my phone. Currently on a Touch Pro 2 and Xrom. This will be my first Android phone and obviously I am considering the Bionic. I know nothing about Android and since Microsoft seems to have abandoned the smartphone world and very few phones are on 7, it seems like a good time to make the move.
I have read the reviews, scoured this forum and it looks like the Bionic is everything it is supposed to be. I am a noob, just an old one, this phone is my b-day present to myself, will be 48 in a few days. I do have a few questions...
Is the Bionic really the shiznit phone or should I wait for a while for a better phone on the horizon?
I can get this phone for $220 bucks through Amazon or $250 through Verizon. Is there any reason to not get it from Amazon?
I am not quite ready to get into flashing new rom's on Android as I have a lot of learning to do first, but I hate bloatware. With the TP2 getting off the stock rom was a good thing, I can go two days on a battery charge, but is it as important with Android? I know the Bionic can be rooted and bloatware removed, but does it slow the phone down if it is left there?
Thanks in advance, this forum rocks!
I upgraded from the TP2. Couldn't be happier. Didn't have many problems with the TP2, but it's old and outdated. This thing is just a beast. You could wait for something better, but I decided that it was time. If something else comes out and I want it, I'll just use a different upgrade.
Thanks, actually I have had zero issues with my TP2 that I got right after it's release. I wasn't sure I wanted to give it up, but I will have it as a backup phone so that works out. My only apprehension is the Motorola phone, I swore I would never have another after the MotoQ that got replaced 4 times in 4 weeks before I demanded a Touch Pro 1 and Verizon coughed it up to keep me happy.
I like new and learning Android will be fun. I just don't want to go through what I did with the MotoQ, what a pc of crap that was. Motorola used to be awesome, but I haven't had a good Moto phone since the StarTac.
Regarding buying it thru Vz vs. Amazon....a couple things come to mind
1) Who has a better return/exchange policy? Vz has 14 days to return and $30 restocking fee. If the phone is defective in the 1st year I believe Vz would give you a Factory Refurbished Phone. How does Amazon stack up to that? Brick and mortar store gives you same day service, pretty important if you can't live w/out your phone.
2) Are you planning to get any accessories? I don't know if it's still going on but when I bought my Bionic with the HD Dock, the dock ended up being $54. Normally I get a corporate discount of 25% on accessories, but this must have been some other promotion. So you may want to shop your complete purchase and get a total out the door price.
I had some buyer's remorse initially with the Bionic but overall I love the phone. I came from the HTC Incredible. The colors were more vibrant on the Incredible, but the Bionic looks OK. Reds, blues, and greens all reproduce nicely, yellow and orange leave something to be desired tho. But if you spend any time at all outdoors, the screen on the Bionic is amazing...it's very visible outside, something I'm not used to with my Incredible.
So far my only serious complaints with the phone is the issues it has switching networks, this is a known issue as you're probably aware and should be fixed with an OTA. Also, I haven't heard this from anyone else so it may be an issue specific to my location, but I exchanged my 1st Bionic b/c the voice quality over 4g was horrible. I could hear fine, but others couldn't hear me very well. The new phone had the same issues so I leave 4G off unless I know I need it. It very well could be an issue with my being on the outer fringe of 4G reception but I'm not sure. When doing speed tests over 4G I was getting 20Mbps down and around 6-8Mpbs up...so it would seem like I have OK signal.
Testing the demo at the store the pentile screen was very noticeable for some of the things I wanted to demo on the phone. I still see it from time to time, but it doesn't bother me, the text is clean and crisp and easy to read so that's good enough for me.
I have a little heartburn over the HD playback capabilities. Being that the phone comes with an HDMI output and offers an HD Dock to connect to your HDTV, I expected a little more with HD playback. I was hoping to throw a bunch of 720P movies on an SD card for when we travel and be able to play back the movies at the hotel. However the only HD playback I've seen from the phone that's smooth is video shot thru the onboard camera. Now I'm trying to figure out how to convert my existing movies to playback better on the Bionic.
None of these issues were dealbreakers for me. I keep in touch with what's on the horizon as far as other devices and aside from 720p resolution screens coming out, there's nothing that's really going to make the Bionic seem outdated. The only other phone I considered holding out for was the Nexus Prime. I like the idea of a brick phone that's just a large touch screen and the function buttons are built in to the app instead of being phsyical buttons...but I'd rather wait until we have a plethora of Ice Cream Sandwich O/S phones to choose from...I didn't want to put all my eggs in Samsung's basket only to be left disappointed.
Also something else to consider regarding 1280x720 screen resolutions...all of Verizon's 4G phones have struggled with battery life, I'd have to imagine a 1280x720 screen is only going to eat that up faster.
I would recommend against the Bionic, but only because of the locked bootloader situation. Not being able to load what I wanted was the reason I left the iPhone -- I don't want to settle for a half-baked solution with a rooted-but-unlocked Bionic.
Overall, the phone performs well (with the exception of random data connection loss and battery drain). But, for $200 or more, I ought to be able to do with the phone what I want.
There is no difference in buying from Amazon or Verizon directly, except with Verizon you have 14 days to return it for a 30% restock fee, Amazon will let you have 30 days. After 30 days you get a refurb from Verizon for the remainder of a year.
I understand battery life, the TP2 I had to charge after about 8 hours until I went with a custom ROM. I don't see much that it can do that I want to do that I can't already do with my TP2, except a better camera and movie playback. I do take pics with my TP2, but I am not sure I would take or play many movies with the Bionic, so that isn't much of an issue. I have a real camera and blue ray players all over the house. I know I would miss my physical keyboard, and every new phone I have touched with a physical keyboard feels like lightweight junk and nothing has the solid feel I am used to. The current Droid phones from Verizon leave little to be desired, with the exception of the Bionic. At least I can say the Bionic has a good feel, I will just have to learn to type on the touchscreen. The screen is large enough that my fat fingers can, I demo'd the phone at a VZ brick and mortar. I will miss my Bing Navigation but can adapt to Google, my old 7 series BMW is not BT capable, but does have Navigation that works, though I am so used to my Bing voice app that I rarely use it. I may get the Nav cradle for the Bionic, it has some appeal.
As far as unlocked phones go, the current trend from Moto seems to be locked bootloaders. I do believe that the awesome people here will crack that code or Motorola will give it up. Though I don't really see much reason to upgrade, my phone is getting old and I am a tech junkie at times. I think the time is now.
I am still interested in other peoples opinions, your experience has value, at least to me.

[Q] Is this a great phone to buy if I plan on Rooting/Flashing?

I have worn out my Galaxy S Captivate (ill miss you ol' pal). It has a cracked screen, cracked 3.5mm jack (don't ask how lol), and it has never had a flash either. Also the camera lense is now cracked.
I am about to upgrade to a new phone, and have considered many phones, but I like the sound of the HTC One (not literally the sound), because it is a sleek metal chassis unlike the new, and very expensive, samsung galaxy S4.
I don't plan on going crazy with my phone, I just want to listen to music, have a good camera, and possible use the camera flash as a flashlight (is this possible?)
What are the chances of someone giving me a run-down on their personal experience with the phone, as well as some advice, such as "Is this a good phone to purchase if I want to flash a great ROM and root it? Remove all the bloatware etc.
Here's why I like the HTC One: ( or the idea of it)
It has a metal design
Its screen is under 5 inches
The pixel density
The audio quality (I know BEATS is not a great thing, but the phone seems to implement it well either way into the design)
It has a flash! *my cappy didn't*
It has a minimum of 32gb internal storage, I don't use microSD in my phone
the battery life is said to last super long!
gorilla glass (that's almost a must for me)
Anyways, all help/advice/opinions are seriously greatly appreciated. Please respond!

This phone is definitely a good phone for rooting. A friend of mine is the manager of my local ATT store, and he helped me make your same decision. He kept telling me that if i were a normal user hed reccomend the S4, but because im a modder and a flasher, the One would be my better choice. Boy was he right. A month ago my sister got the S4, and boy does it feel like a piece of garbage in my hand now. I also came from an S3, and i can promise this is a step up in everyway. This phone has excellent hardware, a unique design, and lots of active development. My advice though is to definitely do your homework before trying to root or anything of the sort, because its a worlds different coming from a samsung. I cant think of a single complaint about this phone. Hope i helped, and good luck!
For the phone itself, I'd definitely, highly recommend it. It does have the fast processor, cool camera, excellent battery life and the speaker quality is a game-changer IMO. Plus it's just plain beautiful to look at and great to hold.
For rooting, I'm not sure what carrier you're on, but if it's Sprint, then I can't fully recommend it. The Sprint variant is still stuck on the older 4.1-based ROMs, so being rooted isn't as much fun on this phone as it's been for my past HTC phones. If you're on any other carrier, then you're good to go. I can't think of any compelling reason to not get this phone.
Thank you guys so much for the hasty responses. I'm going to go check this out tomorrow!

Firstly hold the One in one hand and the S4 in another you'll opt for the One in microseconds!
The choice of custom roms and mods available is large.... the only problem you'll have is which to choose.
You will find the ways to unlock the bootloader, obtain root, etc. quite different but there are plenty of guides available in the One forums and plenty of guys to help you along the way.... searching and reading will open a new world to you, take your time and you will pick it all up.
To end..... the One is the best phone I've owned by a long way.
Edit: A day or so ago I read in a review site somewhere where they said that if you want a phone to use out of the box without modifying then choose the S4 but if you want to customise then the One is the way to go.
Yeah, thanks again.
I have been reading some reviews about how terrible the HTC One is, but I don't think people are giving it bad reviews for a good reason.
All the weird/bad reviews have been mostly "iPhone is better" or just "Galaxy S4 is just better because its CPU is 200mHz faster".
I had a hard time deciding between the One and the S4 also. I went for the One based on the fact that
LCD Screen means no burn-in
Speakers are where they should be
Beats Audio chip makes a noticable difference
I'm a pixel junkie
There is a lot of truth behind the "UltraPixel" camera (I went to college for photography)
I'm 100% happy with my decision, and even though the S4 tops all the benchmarks (fully stock), it makes ZERO difference in real world use.

Would you buy a htc 510 again?

I am trying to decide if I want to get in on the last week for Cricket with the htc 510 for free after rebate.
Reading up on this phone it looks like you do have root but the 64bit cpu is causing a hinderance with getting things like TWRP recovery and cyanogenmod.
It also doesn't appear to have little quality build things like gorilla glass.
Since the phone really isn't free, you have to pay for service for a month or two, I am wondering if anyone would hesitate to sink money into it again.
I don't see the benefit of 64bit on a phone and being the first means it also will be last to get software extras.
no, due to its complicated steps of hacking
- unlock bootloader (relock, and re-unlock (not available yet?)),
- TWRP recovery not assessable after relock bootloader (fastboot oem lock)
- cricket online would show device as "non-cricket device" and your phone's bootloader would say "TAMPERED" -> reduced resale value
- scarce ROM options compared to MOTO G
- ROM/radio/kernel options are mixed up for Sprint/Boost/Virgin/Cricket and no one knows for sure which works on which...
- digitizer seems not register touches properly. you need to touch lower part of what you wanted to touch (button, softkey) to get the phone respond
- digitizer seems sometimes less responsive to touches while other times too sensitive to a little moistures (like sweat from hands)
- its charging port on the right bottom side make it inconvenient to get docked in the phone holder in my car and be charged in the same time. (The stopper is usually on both sides of the phone, leaving the middle part open (where most phones having their charging ports))
i have mine in light use since 12/26 and i regretted my decision, I used MOTO G before but I dislike its round and curve back case and I wanted to experience stock Sense UI. So I took the chance experiencing it... but...
if you have a MOTO G in mint condition from cricket (LTE-support), I'd consider a trade with the extra $25 LOL
good luck

Well at the risk of turning this into a not-allowed phone vs phone thread, I'll just point out that while the quality of the Moto G is undeniable and worth the $25 extra, the problem is the model Cricket uses for their Moto G is locked down hard with no available bootloader unlock and no root, so forget roms.
Only reason why I was considering the HTC 510
I also just learned the USA version of the 510 is the 32bit cpu model so that improves things as TWRP is available for that one (I think?) but the camera is not auto-focus and no flash.
If it was truly free-after-rebate I'd still get the 510 but since you have to pay at least two months of service it is really a $70+tax phone and I'm not paying that for no flash and no auto-focus.
I managed to get 2 of them free by upgrading from CDMA to their gsm network I gave them two ****ty blackberrys from like 1998 lol

Thanks for that comment, ck. I was gonna do some research on cricket moto g, but still finishing up with 510 for now.
I jumped on the cricket deal on black Friday and gave my son the phone for Xmas. It was his favorite gift by far. I couldn't use this as a daily driver but it is definitely worth two months of cricket. Cricket service has good coverage with 4g and late but I can't get speeds of more than 8 or 9. The phone is basically free and can handle any games apps I've thrown at it. Display could be better but no other complaints.

This phone sucks if you've ever used a high quality phone like any of the galaxy series, note series, HTC one, nexus, I'm saving for another quality phone. No memory here, camera is horrible. Phone lags, yes the digitizer is horrible. And, I love music and with headphones it sounds terrible to use, I just don't see myself ever going this route again.
And I'm rooted running custom ROMs which is improvement, but I don't see any ROM fixing the negative about this phone, just improving crap
Sent from my HTC Desire 510 using XDA Free mobile app
When my CDMA Cricket-flashed Galaxy S2 finally died, I replaced it with the Cricket 510 and must admit I'm a little disappointed, although I wasn't expecting a world-class device at that price. Battery life and performance are better than I expected, but the grainy flashless camera, low storage space, and somewhat finicky digitizer leave much to be desired.
This is also my first experience with Sense and I'm not liking it too much, but there are replacement apps (launcher, messaging, keyboard, gallery, etc... ) that get the job done better. But as soon as the camera is fixed in cm11, I'm flashing it.
Would I buy another one? Probably not... I think I'd rather spend more for a better device. But if you're low on cash and need something quick and decent, this isn't a bad way to go at all.
Definitely not for the reasons already stated by everyone else. It is too much of a pain.
Unlike everyone else, I'd buy this phone again in a heartbeat. I got it for next to nothing and it works completely fine. Out of the box the lack of space on the internal storage is a little unnerving but it does have an external micro slot and now that it's rooted deleting the mass of bloatware installed by HTC gives up tons of space. I've flashed CM on mine now and it's even better and works beautifully especially considering it's a no-contract pay-to-go phone.
It amazes me that people want this phone to hit the ground running but NO PHONE DOES THAT save maybe the OnePlus One and the Yureka. We have a limited pool of devs on this phone and they have their own jobs outside of this forum and other phones that they work on. Stop being so self entitled and if you don't like the lack of development on the phone do something about it. The current devs we have already have a device tree up, ported the CM MSM8974 kernel, and a vendor repo (or you can use ./extract-files.sh and pull your own). It really doesn't take that much to get to learning on how to build CM and although deving is a little more, if you don't like it learn it. The phones not been out that long people, like less than five months.
For all it's worth, the phone works perfectly and has better specs than most of the other pay-to-go phones. Like I said, storage out of the box is lacking but there are given alternatives and if you don't like them then root the phone and remove the mass of bloatware. The touchscreen works fine for me 95% of the time. There are some times where the touchscreen gets a little crazy but it's once in a blue moon. The only real downside is the speakers and one of the devs here in the forums found a mod and if I remember correctly ported it to the 510 to work better. Yeah the camera issue on the current CM build is a little annoying but that part comes with flashing ROMs especially ROMs that aren't supported by CM themselves.
The device worked perfectly for me out of the box and the device continues to work like a beast for me with the current CM build from @rbheromax, @kalisto2002, and @shinru2004.
Like I said, I'd buy the phone again if I needed to because it was next to nothing.
That's my two cents.
I got mine free and regret every penny I didn't spend on something with more internal storage.
Thing is that is my only gripe with the phone, the lack of internal storage space. SD card can't help you if you can't even use the device because it's out of memory.
I've moved almost every app I have to SD card, still no use, and I only have a handful installed whereas on any other device I had about 5 times as many apps.
Would it really have killed them to put 8GB in this thing?
So, no I wouldn't choose this device again.
NEVER!
Nope. NEVER AGAIN!! A smartphone with no storage = basically a flip phone with a color screen. Waste of my money and time and the BIGGEST rip off ever!

I agree, unfortunately im stuck with it. It was my one shot at a phone and it looked awesome though I do work with tech a lot I do not mess with phones at all. So I got this and am currently desperate for a rom that can trim up this memory the on board storage gives you about 300MB after fresh install and updates. This is useless even with 30gb flash card. I have managed to unlock and root it just fine but mine is HTC 510 boost so not I am hoping they make a rom for this that works on my phone until then I am removing as much as I can but these apps do not do much to free up space. if anyone has any info I could use some As I said phones are not my thing.
I agree with dipspit.
Initially I was dismayed over the lack of space on this phone, however I purchased it at a good price and it was a definite upgrade (spec wise) compared to my old device. In all honesty even without the support this device has received from a few members here I still would purchase this again.
It's just an added benefit to have some wonderful members here who are doing all they can to make this phone awesome.
I was considering to buy this phone to my wife instead of her Desire HD. And the best thing about it was a 4G in it, but after reading all your posts I think I will go find something else. One more thing was stopping me from really buying it - 1G of RAM. I don't think it's really enough this days.
The 1GB ram is not a problem. I've since switched to a Moto G 2nd Gen. and with 1GB ram it runs smooth. I love the new Moto G and it's quite affordable, I recommend it.
The storage is the main issue on the Desire 510.
Never!
Its very sh!t phone,slow,very sh!t screen,etc...
My Xperia SP with 2 cores much better and faster
Just bought it as a temp phone till I figure out what phone to get. Besides the crappy screen and camera. It's fairly smooth for a midgrade phone.
Hmm...well I did get this phone for free. Although it does perform much better than my old phone the HTC One SV, the camera isn't as good as the SV (which I really miss). I'm used to phones not having very much development. My first smartphone was a Samsung Admire, then an LG Optimus C. Then the SV and now this. They didn't have much developing, but it was never disappointing. If I could get this phone for free I would. But if I had a chance to buy another phone and had the money, I definitely would. This gave me a taste of Sense 6 and the performance of HTC phones. I've never had it lag while casually using it. Although I do get some crashes, but that's what I get for messing with some of the system's files in order to perform much better.
Overall it's a good phone for performance and gave me a taste of Sense 6. The space isn't much of an issue for me. I've never ran out of memory space.
I love HTC phones and I would get it again if it was free again, but if I had money I would buy the M8 instead (or the upcoming M9)
If anyone was concerned about space, all they would have to do is buy a memory card.

Just bought a 3t/64gig version

My wife is gonna beat me down but I'm sick of this Droid turbo. I'm aware the 5 will be out within the next few months or so and will wait to get a 5t when that comes avail.
For this new phone anything I should do to prep?
How is the durability?
Picked up a default case from one plus. Should that be fine? Or should I consider an otterbox.
Looking forward to loading a rom on it.

You better buy a helmet, and strap yourself in, because this phone is gonna blow you away!
No, seriously, I wouldn't say there is anything special you need to do, to prepare. Since you stated you are going to put a custom ROM on the phone, do the usual due diligence and read the general process on unlocking the bootloader, flash TWRP, etc. (plus you probably want to read up on dm-verity and understand what it is). But most of that is not too different from modding other Android devices - and you may in fact find it's even easier with the 3T (as Oneplus seems to be very friendly to the mod community).
Know how to flash the stock update files (return to stock), etc. I always read for at least an hour or 2 when getting a new phone. To me, that is the basic required research. And heck, it's fun to read about your new toy.
Other than that, you already bought a case, and the phone usually comes with a screen protector (although reports vary on whether it comes with a plastic or tempered glass protector). But you may want to research if you want a particular screen protector.
Other than that, the phone will arrive, just throw in your SIM, and you should be good to go. Well, on that note if you are using a smaller carrier (or buying version not specific to your region, etc) read up on whether you will need to manually input the APN.
You may even be pleasantly surprised at the stock ROM. It's amazing clean, to the point that some folks are calling the phone the spiritual successor to the Nexus line (since the Pixel basically priced itself out of any such comparison).

Well, I suppose that depends on how rough you are with your phone, and what level of protection you prefer. I'm take reasonably good care of my phones. I don't baby them, but I don't abuse them either. Keep it in my pocket, with the official bamboo case, and it gives me sufficient protection. But the default cases are thin, and really more for just preventing scratches; and don't give any protection from impacts, drops, etc.. If you want impact protection, go for something else.
I can only speak to the durability after about 3 months, as that is how long I've had mine. With the official bamboo base, and the plastic screen protector it came with, the phone itself still looks virtually as good as new.

Have been reading up about it. Pretty much researched between the pixel and s8 and the oneplus. Couldn't pass up the price over the hardware. Figured I would hand it off to the wife when the 5t comes on as long as my experience is good with the 3.
I did read their was support issues with the 2 series after the 3 came out. Hopefully oneplus continues support somewhat when the 5 comes out. I do understand that they want to keep costs down and would want people to move to the newer hardware though.
I am pretty good at Maintaining phones but in the second year of owning my turbo, I literally dropped it about one and half feet and the unbreakable screen broke. ? first ever time dropping it too!
You did give me some great ideas for reading. I read up on the unbrick post and have downloaded the latest stock firm from oneplus. I've never dealt with dmverity before, so definitely checking that out. Ive noticed Magick has that option but never checked that box though.
For unlocking I would think going into bootloader (fastboot), could simply just run the unlock command right?
Anyways, thanks again!

That is what we all hope. History hasn't been kind to Oneplus on this point. But it's practically a startup company. So who knows how this may change going forward.
Worst case, the dev community will keep this device alive for years to come, through custom ROMs. It's currently the most active device on XDA, so I feel good on this point.

That is correct. The phone will be wiped when you unlock, but that is pretty typical, so probably not news to you.
There is also a slightly annoying warning screen that will come up every time you boot the phone, saying the bootloader is unlocked. It comes up for 5 seconds, or you can press the power button to bypass it. No way to be completely rid of this warning screen, without relocking the bootloader (which you should not do with TWRP, root, etc. or you will soft brick).
Short story, the bootloader warning screen is something you live with, if you want to run with a modded phone (TWRP, root, custom ROM, etc.).
Everything on the 3T in my eyes is 10/10
OOS is my favourite Stock Os I have came across, yes pixel owners have pure stock and on the dot security updates but OOS offers the same experience with some extra customisation and flair.
Screen is great for the size, welcome to AMOLED. Yes it is a pentile display but it has no impact on daily use or image quality unless you come from a qHD. If you find the colour to punchy turn on sRGB.
Audio is pretty dam good through headphones even from the bottom speaker I was surprised that it had some depth. Pocketnow on YouTube has a great review on audio performance.
Performance well it is now the second fastest Chip but it will fly with everything but I will say try Blu-spark kernel and be blown away, 6GB of ram gives peace of mind if you have every app open and chrome tab insane that nothing with redraw upon opening.
Camera performance is where I would say it loses a point but not the actual sensor but more of the post processing as any still shot will look gorgeous, but it struggles with movement so if you like to take photos of kids or animals it will be luck of the draw. My tip is hold the shutter and take a chain of pictures with auto HDR disabled.
Charging is blazing fast I no longer charge overnight by the time I get up and ready I have plenty to go a day and more.
I was first very dubious of this phone when I ordered it as I came from Galaxy S3, Xperia Z2, Z3 and then Z3+ which destroyed my Sony loyalty. When I opened the great looking box and picked up my 3T I was like WOW and will stay with this brand till the day comes they piss me off. Some excellent craftsmanship that makes you want to keep it naked I know some OP2 owners got upset at the short support but I have always been into flashing and tweaking and they are not short of some great official ROMs. So that is my take a bit much but worth giving it a good shout and please stay away from oneplus's official forum as it is full of s***. :good:
the phone is great, well built, good battery, fantastic signal strength, I have not had any camera issues it does what I expect of it. the menu is a little different to stock so finding some settings is a learning process.
What I don't like is the alert slider with no way to turn it off or disable it also the customer support is unfortunately still terrible but community support is great.

Did I make a mistake?

Just picked up the G6 yesterday. I hadn't done much research, but I wanted a newer LG device (my 2nd V10 fried).
I offered $300 and the phone is like new. The guy hadn't used it since January. So far my impressions are as follows
Cons:
-Most obvious the non-removable battery!!!
-Volume buttons are on the side (like any average phone, but apparently this is what LG's doin' now since the G5)
-Headphone jack is at the top (I didn't know I had a preference, but I guess now I do!)
-Phone feels very small, but probably because I always grab an extended battery
-32GB internal storage
-No DAC
-ZeroLemon is basically a power bank. I suppose the phone will always be "charging" while the bank is active. (Thinking about it now, it might be convenient to have the ability to charge the bank separately and still have the oem battery powering the phone. Sort of like modular devices.)
-I definitely don't feel the "wow" factor I usually get when I upgrade to a new device. I remember starting since the Optimus G Pro, the screen blew me away! Then the G2, G3, V10 etc etc
-This is a big one. No root yet! And by the looks of things, root might not ever come? I really feel like I'm walking around missing a finger. I always root my devices, customizing shortcuts, colors, modded apps... I truly need root.
-I forgot to mention, all this glass stuff. Like the back cover, why was this done?! I miss having a 'sticky' cover like the V10!
Pros:
uh... to be determined? I can't think of any positives at the moment.
Anywho, the question I pose is this: Should I keep it? Sell it? Trade it? Burn it? Eat it?
I'm not exactly hurting for money, but I do have my sights set on a V20 and a G5. Would be nice to make the money back... And if I do sell it, better sooner rather than later because the phone won't look this new for long. Also, considering that the G6+ is finally getting around...
What are your guys' impressions, the people who have been using it for awhile now? What phone did you come from? I wanna stay away from Samsung because ever since the Note 2 I've noticed that Sammie is more gimmicky, and maybe geared toward a "teenage" mind while LG was more "business in front, party in the back." And don't get me started on Apple. What a joke.
Maybe I should look into this "Pixel" I keep hearing about. Or Oneplus?
Well since you have no good assumptions about the phone, I would say sell it. I came from a 3t to this phone and it's pretty good without the root. The phone is supposed to feel small. that was the whole point of the design, 5.7in screen in a 5in screen body. You will get used to the volume buttons being on the side since they have multiple programmable functions besides just volume. If your screen looks blah, you might want to adjust your settings. Since it was bought used, i'm not sure what may have happened to it. Think of the 32gb as a hybrid ssd. You want it to run fast for programs and use your SD card for storage. Bigger the space, longer the process. Dac? I'm not a big headphones person, my phone connects to Bluetooth.
