Hi, everyone.
I appreciate if anyone can help me restore my IMEI. I can't connect to network after flashing a custom rom. I've already flashed different versions of official firmware via fastboot, twrp flashable stock ROM, and reflashed modem and erased modemst1 and modemst2 to no avail. I've exhausted every possible option without having to send this to a service center.
Thanks and best regards,
Geb

Thanks for your kind intention. I've tried that method before to no avail. I installed all necessary drivers, and followed the steps faithfully. i was able to extract the qcn file, explore the contents of the EFS partition, modify the qcn file and edit it, but the dead end I ran into was the phone itself is write-protected when I send the qcn file back. Can you please share with me your backup of TWRP EFS partition? It's the only thing that can possibly save my phone. Thanks.

By the way, my IMEI is still intact when you use "mfastboot getvar all" command and in the "Barcode" in the bootloader menu. It's just that the IMEI = 0 when I dial *06#. I know it is in there somewhere. Perhaps you can share with me your EFS and Persist partition backup in TWRP?

A guy in Moto G5 Plus (potter) forums tried that, his IMEI is still zero, but he got back his signal. I will just try and see if it will work. I'm not a criminal to use someone's IMEI, I just don't want to give up on my phone just yet. Can you IM me a link of your EFS backup, perhaps?

Using someone else's imei has great potential to cause great problems for you and the person who gives it to you. Never give away your imei or use an imei from another device.

LG G Flex EFS Backup Zip
Background
The G Flex has no built in EFS backup partitions. EFS contains things like your MEID or IMEI... your data profiles.. radio settings. The EFS cannot be replaced... it is unique to your phone only... backing up your OWN EFS is highly recommended.
I have added EFS backup to the IOroot scripts so that everyone that roots will have a copy of their EFS partitions on the computer you run IOroot from. Regardless, this current thread will still be a good "heads up" and an alternative for those who insist on using other shady root methods or for those who just want another way to back things up.
I made a similar thread for both the LG Optimus G and LG G2... for reference the G2 thread can be found HERE.Backing up EFS
Root is required!
In TWRP/CWM, flash the LG_G_Flex_Backup_EFS.zip attached in this thread. LG_G_Flex_Backup_EFS.zip is a flashable zip which creates a new flashable zip containing a backup of your EFS partitions and is saved in /sdcard/EFS_Backup/.
To manually backup EFS partitions without the zip you can use the commands below while in ADB shell. You can do this while booted in the rom or in custom recovery. If backing up EFS while booted in the rom I suggest placing the device into airplane mode first. And remember, root is required.
Code:
adb shell
su
dd if=/dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/modemst1 of=/sdcard/modemst1.img
dd if=/dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/modemst2 of=/sdcard/modemst2.img
Backup your efsbackupflashable.zip or loose partitions somewhere else besides your internal SD!!!
Email.. "cloud".. PC..
Restoring EFS
To restore your original EFS just boot into custom recovery and flash the efsbackupflashable.zip in your /sdcard/EFS_Backup folder.
To manually restore EFS img files run the commands below using ADB shell while in recovery or booted up with airplane mode on...
Be sure to place .img files on the root of your /sdcard/(internal storage)..
Code:
adb shell
su
dd if=/sdcard/modemst1.img of=/dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/modemst1
dd if=/sdcard/modemst2.img of=/dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/modemst2

@autoprime is this the stock backup? Does this work on all variants of the Flex? The process of creating the back up. I assume it will.

not sure what you mean? both the G2 and the G Flex have partitions modemst1 and modemst2 for their EFS.

EFS is static across all roms.. there is no "stock." It is key to backup EFS ASAP before any corruption can take place.
And no assuming needed... it states it in the title of the thread that it supports all variants. Reading is paramount.

So by using the code you put in OP under "Restoring" is what I would use to restore the efs that was backed up from root process?

I had a rooted D959 that was stuck in download mode and would not for the sake of it take the proper kdz file and would stop at 45-49% when updating and never fully flash. I tried everything and ended up calling LG as a last resort and told them something happened during an OTA update and the phone would not start. Luckily they repaired it for me under warranty and I wasn't charged anything. The paperwork sent with the phone stated they replaced a memory module. May work for you. They also asked for the receipt to be shipped back with the phone but since I bought the phone used on EBay I didn't include one in the box and they still fixed it. Guess they know the phone is under a year old so they no need to know the exact purchase date for the year warranty. I was extremely lucky and jumped around like a little kid when I seen the warranty status website show the phone was fixed and being sent back at no charge, don't know if anybody else will be so lucky.
You may be in a better boat to get it fixed free as yours isn't saying saying ROOT like mine did in download mode. If you can't solve it yourself worth a last resort!
Can some one tell in detail how ro manually backup? What to do with these files?
How can I restore or fix a corrupted efs partition? Was told the efs partition being corrupted is the reason radio isn't working.

I had an LG G2 that it happened to. Something must have went wrong during the flash. Just happened. Nothing I did wrong, just happened. Started backing up EFS after that. Backed it up during initial flash of N6, save it to Gdrive. Haven't worried about EFS since.
i am sorry if this method did anything wrong with your device, but i already mentioned that this tweak worked for me and i would not be responsible for anyone else.

Good work bro, share this method to as many people as possible to help them all
This worked for my xt1805 that had no LTE after installing a custom ROM then restoring stock. Had no IMEI at first and installing a new custom ROM fixed that, but tried everything including deleting the modem environment partition (e.g. here) but only this persist solution would restore the LTE.
Many thanks!
Can anyone help me and elaborate how to restore the persist file?
EDIT: I used older TWRP, I flashed newer one and I got it. Thanks.
Will this work on an XT1803?
@lynxblaine yes it'll work
Hi,
I restored this extracted file using TWRP and now my IMEI is 0.
Here are the steps I did to get back my IMEI. none of these worked. Please advice.
1. Locked bootloader and went back to stock ROM (version NPSS26.116-61-5 with march update)
2. Did erase of modemst1 &t2 with out any success
3. Flashed just Non-Hlos and Fsg and DSP only.
4. Flashed various ROMS like Pixel experience, Validus, Resurrection Remix, franken ROM. Didn't even get 3G after this.
None of this seem to restore my imei.
But when I did fastboot getvar all I am able to see one IMEI of 15 digits.. So I don't think I bricked my phone.
You should try the restore method in this section of forums for your imei it worked flawlessly for me.

Yeah, I tried RR vali aex, nothing was happening so I reverted to stock and locked the bootloader and submitted it to service center , they might be able to do something here. But they said your phone was rooted and we can't help you here. We can replace PCB which will cost you around 9-10k... So will go back tomorrow to collect.
Then will try something else.

You can't take someone else's files to get your IMEI back.
If you could explain more detailed what you've done, then it might be helpful for others to find a solution.

Your IMEI files are in /persist/rfs/msm/mpss/dhob.bin + shob.bin
EFS1=modemst1
EFS2=modemst2
That's a usual problem when downgrading your ROM and the reason why it is not recommended!!

I tried it and still continue with IMEI 0 :/
I also already used the new version RETAIL that came out (ALI_RETAIL_9.0_PPS29.118-15-11-16_cid50_subsidy-DEFAULT_regulatory-DEFAULT_CFC.xml) and remain the same: /

I have got two devices: Moto G6 and Moto G6+
Due to a very dump mistake I killed my dhob.bin and shob.bin files on my G6+ and lost my IMEI forever. That's the reason why I bought the G6.
I know there are a few people here in this forum offering a persist.img for those who ruined their own. As I can see on your screenshot the hob+dhob_report.txt files are a clean sign for flashing someone else's persist.img on your device.
To make matters worse, your shob.bin file was created at May 2016!! The release date was March 2018! I don't think that Motorola developed that device two years before the official release date...
Option 1: You flashed another persist.img to get your IMEI back
Option 2: Your device is a used one and you bought it with a already messed up persist partition.
At the end it doesn't matter, because your IMEI will remain 0.

Your persist should be this way

Where can I get persist.img? To test, I'll make a copy of the ones I already have in case of doubt. Another thing is that my problem was that I used the rom pixel experience and when I saw that I did not like it, I returned to android 9 stock and there my problem

The files shown on your screenshot do not belong to your phone. They belong to another Motorola device. But to get your IMEI back you need your own files. They are unique. These files were created and encrypted by Motorola and there is no chance to recreate them!! In case you haven't got a backup of your own your IMEI is dead, zero, 0, gone. bye bye!

The second sentence:
This method will not work if you have restored other device's persist from some Youtube video or some Internet guide.
Here, you can flash my persist.img from my G6 (XT1925-5, ALI_RETEU_PPSS29.55-37-7-2)

Have fun! It won't work!
I had this very same problem today after trying out Android 10. How I fixed it was to download the LineageOS 16 and install that over the top of whatever firmware/rom you have on your phone. Then once you've booted properly (Don't do root or anything, just boot the rom) check your IMEI has gone back to normal and if it has then you can flash a stock rom over the top (wipe all partitions as normal).
