[POSSIBLE FIX] OEM Unlock Timer and Custom ROM's - Samsung Galaxy Note 8 Questions and Answers

Hello fellow Note 8 users,
I've been thinking for a while now on a way to solve everyone's issue with the 1 week OEM Lockout when flashing custom ROM's and I may have a way to bypass it so I'm looking for people to test it as I have the N950N which is not effected by this problem.
It involves going back to stock completely then OEM Unlocking after a week or instantly depending on your device then putting on a Custom Recovery and Rooting.
Once your Stock ROM is Rooted and is working and Rebooting properly download and install Dual Boot Patcher and patch your Custom ROM's Zip in it to be flashed on the Data Partition.
Proceed to flash your Patched Custom ROM in your Custom Recovery and when the phone reboots your Custom ROM should be up and running fine without any OEM Issues at which point you can set up your Custom ROM how you like and also Reboot without issues.
I'm thinking using this method will preserve the OEM Unlock because the Stock ROM is still on the phone and your device wasn't completely wiped using Dual Boot Patcher.
Updating ROM's is as simple as using Dual Boot Patcher in your Custom ROM to return to your Stock ROM then again use Dual Boot Patcher to wipe the custom ROM you want to update and repeat the install process with the newer Patched Custom ROM preserving the OEM Unlock because your not touching or wiping the Stock ROM.
Search XDA for the Dual Boot Patcher thread and do some reading on how it works and where to get it, I personally use it whenever I wish to try a new Custom ROM without having to loose my current daily driver.
As I said at the start this is just an idea I had as a possible workaround to the problem so I'd be interested if someone with an OEM Timer effected device could test it to see if it works, good luck.
Regards,
Kevin

I explained here why the OEM Lockout happens and how to avoid it with 2 simple edits in system, give an eye to it

I have used the dual boot patcher from beginning. My note 8 (SM-N950F) also wasn't affected and I got into jail while I flashed a custom Rom (infinity Rom) with Chinese XXV CSC [emoji20]
So I'm not sure that really works.
Maybe I tested and flashed to much. Since this morning I'm free again

XT1068 overwhelmed, just want root

So browsing through all the development threads I can't seem to find a basic root tutorial. I just want to root the stock rom so I can use greenify to improve the wife's batt life. I understand I'll need to unlock the bootloader. The phone is now a year old so no warranty left anyway. Any help would be appreciated.
EDIT: Sorry it's a XT1063, not 1068.

Unlock the bootloader using this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g-2014/general/wip-unlock-bootloader-moto-g-2nd-gen-t2875728 : Warning - unlock will factory reset your device.
Flash the recovery http://forum.xda-developers.com/mot...recovery-twrp-2-8-2-0-touch-recovery-t2979149
(in fastboot mode from first tutorial, use command
Code:
fastboot flash recovery xxxx.img
)
Then copy the supersu zip to your device, boot into recovery and install it. https://download.chainfire.eu/696/SuperSU/UPDATE-SuperSU-v2.46.zip
Thank you sir. That's disappointing you have to wipe to unlock boot loader. In that case I might as well flash a ROM. I know asking about "the best" rom is frowned upon but what's a good stable daily driver that I can flash once and forget about it, since it's not my phone.
Side question, rooting then upgrading to official marshmallow will kill root I assume?
1. Personally I use temasek's CM13 - while updates are not as frequent, the feature set is pretty nice. And it is quite stable. http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g-2014/development/rom-temasek-s-unofficial-cm13-t3264678/
2. I don't think you will be able to upgrade to Marshmallow with a modified device using the standard OTA method. This works, though http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g-2014/general/6-0-soak-moto-g-2014-t3255883
PS : For Marshmallow, if you are using a stock ROM, root is to be done with SuperSU's 2.6x zip file, don't use the older versions.
Most custom ROM's are CM based, and therefore, have root inbuilt. So you don't need to do anything more about that if you flash a custom ROM.
PPS : Next time quote or mention me, so I get a notification. Thanks.

Updatet my rooted OOS over the Air, now I haven't TWRP and SuperSu

Hi There,
I've the Problem that I havent't TWRP-Recovery and SuperSu after Updating to OOS 4.1.1 and Android 7.1.1.
Do someone know if i had to flash TWRP with qiping all Data? Or is there a Way to Flash TWRP and SuperSu without wiping? =(
Sorry I'm new to Android and started with the oneplus 3t. So i didn't know that i hadn't to update the Phone.
Or is the best opinion for me to choose a custom rom? But there are so much, i don't know what to choose.
Thanks for help! =)
Neither TWRP nor SuperSU will wipe anything.
It's totally up to you whether you need a custom ROM or not. If you want features like switching tracks just with your volume keys, you'll totally need a custom ROM since stock ones don't provide this feature. But this is just one example of many.
Regards.

Hm okay, cause when I got my one plus I flashed trwp and had to wipe everything, cause of the encryption or something like that.
I'll try my best today evening, hopefully nothing will go wrong :-O
What do I need to center the clock?
I'll flash trwp and supersu and anything to center the clock today evening.
Don't know if I need a custom rom, are there reason for a custom rom?
Thank you so much!

If you need help with anything, just ask.
I never had to wipe anything. I just wipe the phone when I want to remove the encryption.
EDIT: regular security patches is one big reason for me to install a custom ROM.
Thanks, I'll ask my questions
But why did the update delete trwp and supersu?
I was happy with OOS but missed the future of centering the clock.
May I ask which custom rom you use?
Updates remove SuperSU because they essentially flash over all non-user partitions (everything except /data, where your files, settings and user apps are stored). To root the OS, SuperSU installs its files in the /boot partition, which gets overwritten during ROM flashes. Root gets deleted any time you flash any mod (including most custom ROMs, since they also replace /boot). The only exception to this is if you flash a custom ROM that comes pre-rooted.
TWRP does not get deleted immediately during flashing, but rather when you first boot up afterwards. OOS will attempt to replace any custom recovery with the stock recovery when it first boots up after updating. You can get around this by either flashing TWRP again, or rooting immediately after flashing a ROM update, before you reboot (flash ROM, wipe cache/delvik, flash root, reboot). Most custom ROMs will not replace your custom recovery.
There's a few threads containing OPSystemUI.apk mods in the Themes, Apps and Mod section, though most of them also contain a bunch of other graphical modifications. If you only want to center your clock and nothing else, it can be achieved by modding OPSystemUI.apk yourself, though there is a bit of a learning curve to it.

You are mixing things up a bit but don't worry, I'll explain.
You need to unlock the bootloader first, and that always wipes your data for security reasons. So if your phone is stolen, the thief won't be able to access your data by installing TWRP or a custom rom. After unlocking you install TWRP (custom recovery), and use it to flash stuff. (roms, mods, etc)
After that you only lose data if you (or a rom) mess things up, and your data becomes unaccessible, or you relock your bootloader for whatever reason. That's why you should always backup to a computer before doing major flashing/upgrades, etc.
If you upgrade the rom you'll lose root and/or TWRP, but you can flash it again as explained by others.
Hi there,
so I've flashed TWRP and SuperSu again. You are all right, i haven't to wipe anything. I really mixed up things. But now everything is working for me.
Okay, i have to learn how to get my OPSystemUI.apk modify it and flash it back?
I will seach the threads and learn.

N950F Exynos how to root Oreo please?

Good Morning,
I have a carrier unlocked Australian N950F Exynos Note 8 running 7.1.1 with OEM Unlock showing in developer settings (took a week or so). My phone has downloaded but not yet installed this OTA:
N950FXXU3CRC7/N950FOLN3CRC7/N950FXXU3CRC7 (1021.03MB)
I think it'll be Oreo but I haven't checked which exact version.
I have not installed TWRP or rooted this phone yet but I'd like to do so. I'd also like to move to Oreo before I proceed as my battery life could be better.
What is the best way to proceed? I've read through some long threads and ended up confused about exactly what's the best procedure.
Is some kind or decryption required at some point? Will I lose the data currently on my phone?
I haven't installed the OTA update yet.
Thank you.
CRC7 is Oreo, 8.0 which is currently the latest for Note8 (8.1 may be a long while out if we even get it officially).
The process for rooting Oreo is basically the same as Nougat, for Oreo just be sure you are using the updated TWRP that fixes the data mount issue.
If you root Nougat first, you won't be able to update OTA so you'll then need to install a custom rom to get Oreo.
You can update to Oreo via OTA first & your data will be intact but regardless if Oreo or Nougat, after installing TWRP you'll need to wipe data to remove encryption. So yes, you will loose data. You won't loose internal or external storage unless you choose to format them but it's a good idea to make a backup of them just in case.
As for data, you'll need to use smart switch, helium, etc if you want to back it up. I have no experience with backing up data without root so I'm not sure what methods work best.
It seemed to work. I restored all my contacts, apps etc in Oreo. When I went to restart the phone and enter TWRP to flash magisk I get a message about only official binaries are allowed. Now the phone won't even boot. I'm guessing I now need to re-flash official firmware with odin just to get my phone working? Another week for OEM unlock? I waited this long because I thought the problem was resolved
Unfortunately if you have the OEM lock issue, that will never go away. So yes, you have to flash official firmware to boot again. If you were on Oreo, you can try flashing Nougat to see if you might get lucky & get OEM unlock back.
Since you have the OEM lock issue, remember to always flash the RMM state fix even if you flash a custom rom that has the fix built in. Always flash RMM fix right after flashing a custom rom. If not flashing a custom rom, flash RMM fix before booting to system after you install TWRP.
Thanks for the reply.
Was I supposed to install Samsung AntiRoot Removal and RMM State Bypass as per this guide? Is this guide the correct method?
galaxynote8root.com/galaxy-note-8-root/how-to-root-galaxy-note-8-on-android-8-0-oreo/
I'm currently downloading Oreo 8.0 XSA (unbranded Australian rom) to reload my phone and wait another week.
I would like to use the XSA Samsung rom rather than a custom rom. Is OEM Unlock available in Oreo after a week?
Thank you
I use the method listed in any of the TWRP threads. I've never heard of Samsung Anti Root Removal. By the sound of it on the page it sounds like dm no verity. You need to flash that & RMM state fix. Flash the XSA firmware you want to use. Log into your Samsung account, don't reboot for 168hrs & OEM unlock should appear. Then follow a guide for installing TWRP.

help with guide to install rom

Hello all,
I bought recently a used mi8 for replacing my oldie mi5.
I have reading several posts that are related with flashing the roms, and several talk about the encryption storage.
I know that xiaomi encrypts the storage and that I need to format, but I get confused with the necessity of having to flash or not the dm-verity pack.
So what I know so far and please correct me if I'm wrong:
First boot loader unlock no problem
Second install Twrp, can I use the latest official or search for a specific package????
Third in the Twrp format everything
Fourth after format I remember something about keeping system read only or not, what do I need to do???
Fifth grab an asop rom and flash it
Sixth if I want root, use the Magisk, normally or do I need to pay attention to anything else.
Sorry, for so many things, but I read plenty, before asking

Well come to Mi8 mate.
1. You need to unlock bootloader
2. Install official or IMO use Orangefox recovery which is based on latest twrp with some themes and extras.
3. You are right
4. After installing twrp or similar you need to slide on first run if you want to enable flashing etc.
5. Choose any rom you want
6. Yes Magisk is your only option, if you need root.
However if your device is unencrypted than you don't need to install dmverity. I am also used many AOSP roms on my unencrypted device and faced zero issues.

Note 8 soft bricked

Salutations everybody. I haven't had a phone from sammy in a while. Finally invested in a SM-N950F note 8. It's oreo. Tried to root earlier today using the pinned guide in the Guides forum. After going through the process, and flashing twrp. Then formatting data. And rebooting it to twrp (which I did a couple of times) (May been where I messed up,but it doesn't seem likely to me) I flashed the oreo n950f oem issue zip and rooted with magisk. Upon rebooting & enabling dev options. The oem toggle was missing. The guide didn't say what to do in the event that it was missing. Just that it was safe to reboot if it was there, and enabled.
Me being rushed for time rebooted anyway, and now when I try to boot up I get only official released binaries may be flashed, and the phone shuts off.
I'm aware I can restore to stock via odin. But I have a couple of questions.
A. Can I use the same odin version I used for the root process to return to stock, or do I need a different one?
And
B. There are loads of options for country and carrier on sammobiles site. I bought the phone used and have no idea of its country of origin. There is a version that says unknown for country and (bat) for carrier. Is that one safe to use, and is there any difference between the firmwares other than carrier setting being preinstalled (would be my guess of the only difference.)
Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.
This msg Only official released binaries are allowed to be flashed cause of the new security patch lock which called RMM or KG and since u were rooted before then u got this error that's cause you flashed a new BL to your device or you were connected to internet before editing kernel to prevent samsung to add the new lock to your device anyway a normal flash through odin will solve your problem and your device will be ready to use it again without any problems but also without any custom files like TWRP and Magsic which means u will not be able to root your device before editing kernel to remove the new security patch lock

Okay I was thinking I might of missed something. The patch for oem issue I thought covered that.
Is the unknown (bat) firmware the one I need to flash to stock?

Using odin 13.1.3 is recommended.
As you have the N950F, it is part of the multi OXM CSC, so you can flash the filmware for you country and carrier if desired (N950F)
If you want to root, I suggest just flashing a custom rom or kernel, as they have been patched for the RMM KG state issue.
