what can tasker do for you? - Tasker Tips & Tricks

Tasker can do a multitude of things to your phone, and it has done this for me over the years. Even before Android had automatic rules for Do Not Disturb, Tasker ensured my phone wouldn't disturb me while I got my beauty sleep. At show time, Tasker would set my phone to silent, ensuring my Fantasmic ring tone didn't blare out in a live broadcast. When I was getting in the car, Tasker recognized the Bluetooth head unit and executed a task that would turn off my Wi-Fi and turn on my music.
Before Google Assistant put so many commands at my fingertips, Tasker and AutoVoice — a third-party plugin that allows users to program specific voice commands for our tasks — combined to give me vital hands-free commands, and when it combined with Moto Voice on my Moto X, it felt like actual magic.
The Tasker use that keeps me around, however, is my Tasker + Google Play Music alarm clock. This alarm profile and task brings back the convenience and nostalgia of my old CD and iPod alarm clocks, turning back on my current Google Play Music queue rather than playing the old song or alarm tone day after day after day.

Gear 2 neo functionality review (Note 3 att)

A quick run down of what works and what doesn't.
1. Can send and receive calls via the watch. (then I changed my ringtone to "Knightrider")
2. Can send, receive, and reply to SMS via watch, send by using premade templates or Svoice typing (although not easy to switch between the two on the fly)
3. Can receive most notifications from APPS when selected
-cannot receive TASK notifications from calendar for some odd reason, so if i set up a task like "remind me in 5 minutes to brush my teeth" i get no reminder on the watch, but i do on the phone. This really makes me mad.
4. Can create appointments in calendar, but cannot set an appointment reminder. Note 3 has no default reminder setting, so if i use S voice on the watch to set a calender appointment, i will not get a reminder about it. This really makes me mad.
5. Cannot use Svoice to launch navigator from watch, but can from phone. This really makes me mad.
6. Can set an alarm using Svoice from watch, but cannot name the alarm. This makes me mad seeing as options 3 and 4 arent working either!!
-conclusion, no way for me to talk to watch and be reminded by watch and phone
7. went from 100% battery to 40% battery in 21 hours with heavy use. (3 phone calls, constant fiddling, media remote, tv remote, Sleep app, lots of testing)
8. Can control playback of currently selected playlist on phone via Media remote, with forward and backward skipping. Cannot select music on phone in any manner. This makes me mad too!
9. Watch on works great for controlling basic TV functions. There is no guides of any sort on watch for programs.
That should answer some of the questions that i had initially before my purchase but could not find. If anyone has any questions about functions ask and i will provide what i can.
10. When two notifications come in at the same time there is no way to view both without going to notifications app.
11. Cannot reply to email notifications
12. there is no Auto brightness setting, you must manage this manually
13. Svoice will not "Read the news" due to this function is not available
14. Dismissing a notification on the watch also dismisses the notification on the phone
15. deleting a notification on the watch does not delete it from the phone
16.You cannot set a "Location" reminder from Svoice on the watch, only a standard task reminder.
17. The wrist gesture is not very strict. My screen goes on unintentionally all the time. The minimum screen timeout is 10 seconds.
4. FIX - To make calendar reminders default to a value, you need to remove "My Calendar" and "Samsung Calendar" from the calendar app, instead only use Google calendar, when you use svoice to make an event, the google calendar will automatically add your predefined reminder.

This was a great run down! :good::good:
--especially since I was waiting to get my Neo, which finally arrived yesterday.
Question --where is the sleep app?
I hunted high and low and can't find it. (Either I am going blind or I need to do something to get it! I thought I saw somewhere in these XDA threads where someone had to download an update to enable or get sleep app, but I have the latest gear manager (updated yesterday when I setup the Neo).
My NEO software version is ANCD, (that is the only thing I am thinking could be the issue!)
Thank's in advance for any assistance
EDIT: SLEEP.APK OK I had to manually update the Neo's rom via Kies3 (after DL/Installing Kies3, plugged in the Neo and Kies discovered a software update. I went from Neo Rom NCD to ND8.) After the update, I had the Sleep app in apps!

[Q] Did Google Now just get...... stupider?

I noticed that since yesterday, Google Now seems to have gotten reduced functionality, namely, in setting reminders.
I used to use voice commands all the time to leave reminders, specially location-based ones.
I noticed now that whether I say "reminder" or "alarm" it sets an alarm... and can no longer set them to a specific location like "remind me when I get home to..." and only at a specific time.
I also noticed that it appears to be hooking into HTC's own Alarm app instead of using it's own alarm/notification system.
Is this something HTC updated in it's internal apps that is taking over the reminder/alarm feature of Google Now? Or is Google Now itself doing this from adding support for notifications from 3rd party apps? Any way to revert it back?
same here

it's driving me crazy! I need my reminders back!
Known issue for the past few days. https://productforums.google.com/forum/#!category-topic/websearch/vu0eMzw83MU[1-25]
From what I've read you can type in the reminder and it'll work. It's when you do it via voice and it has to go out to google servers does the bug pop up. I'm sure it'll be fixed soon.

[help]Voice command to tasker while screen is off

I have a profile with AutoNotification and Autovoice which log the notifications to a txt file.
While screen is off if I say "Okay Google" and Then "Any New Notification" its read me all the notifications
what I want to do same thing while screen is off. for that i need to set google to always listen me
or autovoice listen me while screen is off. battery drain is not a matter for this as i am on Android M
and i will make it on condition basis
The only think I can think of is to use AutoVoice's always listening feature, but that's really hit or miss from my experience. Okay Google only works with the screen off if the phone is plugged in.
Just set the task to only trigger when the specific command is received through AutoVoice.

Making Tasker aware of Google Home members

Hi guys!
This is the idea:
I would like to set Tasker to perform certain tasks when I leave home but only if no other member is at home. For instance, I want it to turn off heating when I leave home but if my wife is at home, obviously I don't want it to happen.
Is there a way Tasker can see if and how many Google Home members are at home? Ideally would be if the rest of home members don't have to have Tasker installed.
Thanks in advance!
There would have to be proactive communication that a person is home. As far as I know, Google home doesn't track family members that way.
For example, using an NFC tag at the door, or setting up a routine with Google home where family members say "I'm home" or "I'm leaving" type of thing. I don't have Google home so I'm just guessing here.
You could also set up a Tasker profile that when you leave, it pops up a scene or AutoNotification bubble web screen that you confirm before performing your "leaving home" tasks.

Question Google Tasks: no sound for notifications

I am moving from Google Reminders to Google Tasks (given that as on 6 March the former will disappear), but I am not getting sound for the Tasks notifications. Tried deleting cache, data, uninstalling/reinstalling, to no avail.
Anyone here with my same problem? This seems to be random.
Oh gosh, I am trying again and for the last time: is there anyone who can test this?
thx
g.
I don't think many people in this community use Google Tasks. Hence why no one has said anything.
Have you tried adjusting notification settings for the app? Also check to see if the app is on the autostart list. Some of my apps stopped giving reliable notifications when I took them off the list.

I have tried everything and considering that as of 06 MArch Google is goinf to automatically migrate REMINDERS to TASKS, thsi is annoying.
TASKS is set to run at startup, and its notifications are enabled with sound and battery optimization is off.
Problem is that I do receive a notification but without sound, actually things are ever worst:
1. Install CALENDAR and TASKS and enable TASK notifications in both CALENDAR and TASKS
2. create three TASKS (ACTIVITIES) one after the other 2 minutes apart: the first notification arrives from TASKS with sound, the others without sound
3. uninstall and reinstall TASKS and enable the notifications of the TASKS (ACTIVITIES) both in CALENDAR and in TASKS
4. create only one TASK (ACTIVITY) in 2 minutes: notification arrives from TASKS with sound
5. change the TASK (ACTIVITY) by moving the time forward two minutes: the notification arrives from TASKS but without sound
If I have only CALENDAR installed, the notifications of the TASK (ACTIVITIES) arrive instead from CALENDAR and always with the sound.
Could you pls run these tst for me, with both CALENDAR and TASKS isntalled and then only with CALENDAR installed?
