tablet Rockcip 791 - 3126 - android 5.1.1 - Magisk

Hello everyone but I'm going crazy ... I'm trying to install magisk wiht twrp 3.1.0 (it's the only one that goes on the tablet) ... but it always gives me error 1 .... error installing zip file .. and first no MD5 file found ..... how you can solve ... you can direct me to some solution or for the tablet in there are no solution .... thanks
sorry for english i am italian

Just "error 1" in itself doesn't mean anything, it can have several causes. Save the recovery log after attempting to flash the zip (advanced -> copy log), upload it somewhere (hastebin, pastebin, etc) and post the link here.

re
where i found the recovery log? thanks

After flashing the zip you go to the Advanced menu and press Copy Log. It'll be saved to your internal storage.

The log is fine, but it'd have been nice if you hadn't pasted it straight into the post like that. It's kind of hard to read... Hastebin, Pastebin and similar are nice services to use... Or just a HIDE tag would have been nice.
But, anyway... That's not what this is about.
According to the log the installer can't detect all the necessities for installing Magisk. It might mean that your device is incompatible with Magisk for the moment. There are things being done about compatibility from time to time, so that might change in the future.
You can try another thing that sometimes work when TWRP fails. Install by letting the Magisk Manager patch a stock boot image (instructions in the release thread) and then use TWRP to flash that boot image.
It it doesn't work, save that log (there's a button for that in the Manager flashing window) and upload it somewhere together with your stock boot image and post the link here for possible future compatibility. Of course, no promises...

That's a log from when you install the zip in TWRP... What about the install log from when you patch the boot image with the Magisk Manager?

this is what saved me in the end. It should contain boot generation, boot loading, and magisk image installation testing. Did I fail something? the orings are certainly covered in the log
do I have to repeat?
ps: sorry but I'm Italian and I do not understand very well what you ask me ...
I try to be clearer:
I boot with twrp on SD = ok
load the boot with TWRP from SD = ok
I try to load magik = error 1

Ok, I get you.
What you need to do is this:
Save a copy of your boot image on your device.
Install the Manager from here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/apps/magisk/official-magisk-v7-universal-systemless-t3473445
Open the Manager, press install and choose "Patch boot image file".
Navigate to where you saved the boot image and select it.
If it fails, press Save log and upload that log.
If it succeeds, flash the resulting patched boot image file in TWRP and reboot.
If everything worked you should now be rooted with Magisk.

Do you mean that the Manager crashes? Make sure that it has storage permission.
You do not need to be rooted to patch the boot image with the Magisk Manager. That's the whole point... Just save the boot image somewhere on your internal storage, like you would with any other file, and then the patched image should be in the MagiskManager folder on the internal storage.

If you want to use Magisk you can't use any other root method, you have to be unrooted when installing Magisk.

In that case your device simply isn't compatible with the current release of Magisk. Sorry...
You could try an old release (look in the release thread, there are a couple of old releases attached to the first post), but keep in mind that it'll be without support, if it works at all.
Another option is to hope for a future release to be compatible, but that is not a certainty.

MIUI8/Mi5 Pro - TWRP/Rooting problems

Hey all,
I'm trying to get into TWRP to install SU. Ultimately the objective here is to end up with CM12.
I have my bootloader unlocked, via the official method, and I'm currently running MIUI8 global dev rom.
So far I've tried just about everything I can find on the old interwebs. I've tried that miui flash unlock tool thing, cofface's twrp, both versions from the twrp official site, and i'm not having any luck. It will boot into twrp, but i'm still not able to use the touch screen. I suspect that there possibly is a way to install SU by using the adb commands, but in twrp, in shell, when I do "twrp install /rom/superuser.zip" it fails.
So, I'm now a little stuck.
Any ideas?
Same here, Mi 5 basic(3/32) running latest Global Beta Dev Rom 6.8.11, no luck flashing TWRP. Would really help if anyone could post a complete walkthrough for flashing Super SU ?
Install this twrp recovery using adb command and drivers
http://en.miui.com/thread-307092-1-1.html. I'm in miui8 global 6.8.18 dev. with twrp recovery
Still doesn't work. Tried both versions on that page and touch screen still doesn't work.
Is there a cwmod recovery for mi5?

Look for official twrp thread here on xda. Then read the second post. Here you will find a working twrp.

Hi,
I installed this TWRP- test version, and still have the same problem, screen doesn't work.
Code:
[B]adb devices[/B]
* daemon not running. starting it now on port 5037 *
* daemon started successfully *
XXXXXXXX device
[B]adb reboot bootloader[/B]
[B]fastboot flash recovery TWRP-recovery-gemini-test.img[/B]

writing 'recovery'...
OKAY [ 0.163s]
finished. total time: 0.926s
[B]fastboot reboot[/B]
rebooting...
finished. total time: 0.009s
And here is the recovery log with this TWRP-recovery-gemini-test.img image, i think the problem should be on the next lines:
Code:

Hi,
I installed this TWRP- test version, and still have the same problem, screen doesn't work.
Code:
[B]adb devices[/B]
* daemon not running. starting it now on port 5037 *
* daemon started successfully *
a5b06059 device
[B]adb reboot bootloader[/B]
[B]fastboot flash recovery TWRP-recovery-gemini-test.img[/B]
target reported max download size of 536870912 bytes
sending 'recovery' (25756 KB)...
OKAY [ 0.761s]
writing 'recovery'...
OKAY [ 0.163s]
finished. total time: 0.926s
[B]fastboot reboot[/B]
rebooting...
finished. total time: 0.009s
And here is the recovery log with this TWRP-recovery-gemini-test.img image, i think the problem should be on the next lines:
Code:
Starting the UI...open_overlay cannot open fb0: No such file or directory
setting DRM_FORMAT_RGBX8888 and GGL_PIXEL_FORMAT_RGBX_8888

Any ideas how to proceed now?
Thanks in advance

I flashed it with the fastboot method.
adb devices
XXXXXXX device
adb reboot bootloader
fastboot flash recovery TWRP-recovery-gemini-test.img
target reported max download size of 536870912 bytes
sending 'recovery' (25756 KB)...
OKAY [ 0.762s]
writing 'recovery'...
OKAY [ 0.146s]
finished. total time: 0.910s
fastboot reboot
rebooting...
finished. total time: 0.002s
adb reboot recovery
Starts the TWRP recovery, but with the screen bug.
I will try to post on the official thread, last week I was not able because I had not enough posts on the forum. I hope today I will be able to post.
Thanks for your reply.

I mean the official thread here on xda.
Anyway, try using twrp manager from play store to flash the latest release available. Then reboot into recovery while the phone is charging, or reboot and then wait till the screen goes black. Touch should be working then. So, flash the test version which contains the fix directly from twrp.

I can't, after I upgraded to MIUI v8, I had lost the root access, that's why I need a working TWRP version to root it again.
Now I have flashed the test version which contains the fix normally, so I did what you typed me.
I rebooted into recovery while the phone was charing, and still can't use the screen .
I rebooted and waited till the screen went black, (both cases, phone charging and without charging) and still can't use it.
I'm getting crazy
I went to the official thread as you told me before, hopefully they can help me with the recovery log files
Thanks for your help Senbonzakura, I apreciate it.
That's the same problem I'm having. That's why I was hoping there was a cwm recovery version I could use.
Ok, on the official thread I found the solution:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=68319157&postcount=121
Bruno gived me an image that works, probably they will add on the first post of the official thread.

Yeah I'm hoping that'll be the solution. I'm just booting into recovery now to get the hardware info to check if I've the same screen as yours.

Checked the hwinfo as mentioned in the main TWRP thread, and I've the same screen as yours.
I'm downloading the image now and I'll be testing it shortly. Which version of the Mi5 do you have, out of interest? It's beginning to sound like it could be a problem specific to certain models.
Many thanks for the help by the way, I've my fingers crossed right now!! :good:
EDIT:
AAWW YEAH! We have a winner! I still had to do the thing where you let the screen turn off, but once turned back on, the screen works fine. Thanks a million for your help with that. I'm going to let bruno know in that other thread.

I didn't make nothing ^^, the job was done by @bgcngm
I have the MI5 with 64GB, not the PRO.
In my case, I don't need to wait till the screen turns off, it works directly when the TWRP is loaded completely.
Can anyone send me a link for a working img ? I'm on Mi 5 3/32 variant running Miui Dev 6.8.18 . Thanks in advance

xperia x performance recovery help soft brick!

Hey guys. Long story short I was playing around in TWRP recovery menu and I ended up deleted the OS! Yay now the struggle on how to fix this thing? Flash mode is no longer working so is there are way to flash the ftf file without flashtool? I can still boot into TWRP recovery and fastboot but have not had any success on converting the ftf file to the bootable zip, I've also tried fastboot and cannot get it to flash. Any tech heads able to elaborate a solution? Very much appreciated.
Xperia x performance
Androplus kernel
TWRP Recovery
If I were to restore someone else's TWRP system backup would that work? Under the TWRP menu I see a back up menu and it gives you the option to back up. System, data, cache, diag, oem, Qnovo. If someone else was to make a backup file and restored on my phone would that work? I formatted the system which erased my OS. Can somebody please help.
press VOL UP + POWER BUTTON for 3 times vibration. now u can connect phone in flashmode
Hey thank you for the reply, I have tried that and it still won't dectect in flash tool nor my computer. When I hold the DOWN button while plugging in the USB the LED turns green for 4 Seconds then off for 1 second then back on again for 4 etc. Same thing happens even if I just plug in the USB casually without pressing any buttons. If I hold volume UP it will boot into FASTBOOT.
Even if I can get my hands on a custom rom to flash via ZIP! But there's nothing. Day 5 my phone has been down. Starting to think I'll have to put it back in the box and store it until a custom rom is developed. The waiting game begins.

install drivers. if u have win 8 or 10 use search how to install flashtool drivers
Try software repair from Xperia Companion and follow instructions.
Drivers are installed correctly. My phone flash mode somehow stopped functioning. Even in the sony companion app it asks me to go in flash mode. I try and it just won't detect. Can someone please make a backup of just there system files from the TWRP recovery menu. That will get my phone too a bootable state. I've been trying to create a custom rom for the past 5 days but always having problems with the script commands.

Thanks for the reply
I've already tried PRF creator. It always fails to flash all the check boxes Kernel, fota kernel, etc and when it finishes, it says failed to mount system invalid argument. As for the first link the download link for "host" virtual machine is no longer working so I can't give that method a try. Thanks anyway though.
Day 6 with a bricked Xperia X Performance.
If u have working TWRP u have working adb
connect phone, open cmd and type
adb shell
reboot fastboot
open flashtool, use fastboot mode, chose SELECET SYSTEM TO FLASH
try this to flash via twrp

---------- Post added at 12:58 PM ---------- Previous post was at 12:41 PM ----------
also u can try in twrp by adb next:
./adb shell
su
dd if=/sdcard/system.ext4 of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p15
exit
exit
don't forget convert system.sin to etx4
Hey thanks for the reply.
I've already tried flashtool in fastboot mode. I've tried to flash system.sin and system.ext4 in it but it always hangs on flashing, then it says check log before you reboot and it doesn't end up flashing.
The attached mega file installed but failed to mount system after flash "invalid argument."
I've also tried your 3rd method but could not get any of those commands to work via TWRP Terminal nor the adb terminal in the adb folder on the computer. I've also tried adb sideload but always get cannot read the file I'm trying to push.
Flashing system was fine. It don't boot?
No it can't boot because it can't mount the system
Do next:
Open flashTool, connect phone in twrp mode, than fastboot mode than flashmode. Copy log here

I meant log from flashtool to see the correct install drivers or what it see
1. start flshtool
2. connect phone in twrp to flashtool... flashtool will give u log
3. than connect to flashtool in fastboot...flashtool will give u log
4. now connect in flashmode...flashtool will give u log
On z3 I had the same problem with system partition mounting...helps only restoring backup or flashing via flashtool
by the way. what OS are u using on PC?
and what kernel installed on your phone?

When I connect to flash mode nothing detects..
I am on Windows 10 machine
and my phone had androplus Kernel v7
I flashed the kernel extracted from the ftf dumped from flash tool, then converted to boot.img and flash VIA fastboot and then try to reflash the system but no matter what I try it just wont flash. fastboot gives me an error file header is too large. When I try to install from SD card it gives me error 7 missing autoscripts. Im out of options.....
stupid question: but does your vol down button work?

[Guide] Upgrade Nougat rooted & encrypted to Oreo easy way

Well, this is maybe 10th way of doing this update but I just did it and decided to share steps.
I upgraded from 4.5.15 rooted and encrypted to 5.0.1 without data loss though I have to format /Data partition. So, this is what I did:
1. Unroot and remove pin from phone.
2. Boot into bootloader and flash using fastboot latest codeworx TWRP (I used universal one)
3. Boot into TWRP and made nandroid backup
4. Reboot back into system - still 4.5.15. Save TWRP backup to PC. Also save all sdcard folders you care about, such as DCIM, Pictures, Music, Download etc. to PC.
5. Load Oxygen5.0.1 zip file into Download folder on phone
6. Boot into TWRP
7. Install Oxygen5.0.1 zip though TWRP. Wipe Caches and FORMAT Data.
8. Reboot into system. Let Oreo run new phone wizard and settle.
9. Copy TWRP backup back to the phone. Copy your sdcard folders back. Also copy Magisk15.3.zip if you need a root.
10: Get developer mode in Oreo and enable ADB.
11. Reboot into bootloader and flash codeworx TWRP again and reboot into TWRP
12. Select and restore DATA only in TWRP (only DATA partition without media).
13. Flash Magisk 15.3
14. Wipe this time Caches only and reboot into Oreo
Done, re-assign your pin code etc.
Sounds a bit complicated but in fact it's all about how to deal with consequences of formatting Data partition.
So, in nutshell - save your DATA partition, install Oreo, format DATA then after Oreo settles, restore your Data and your root.
When I went to install the Oxygen5.0.1 zip a message error showed that said "This Device is unlocked; bootstate: ""; sdk version: 25".

This will happen if you are trying to update not from Nougat (sdk=25) OR your ro.boot.verifiedbootstate is not "green" - unlocked.
Or (more likely) you are trying to flash from different version of recovery...
I am using this one:
https://sourceforge.net/projects/cheeseburgerdumplings/files/15.1/cheeseburger/recovery/twrp-3.2.1-0-universal-codeworkx-cheeseburger.img/download
PS: yes, I just looked into updater-script and looks like you got this error because you are unlocked and your recovery is built for Nougat (sdk25), you should use recovery build for Oreo (sdk26). So, definitely you are using wrong recovery.

really really great.
Worked at last.
Thanks
I'm going to give it a shot soon. I really appreciate you making a simple guide for this. I'm still convinced nougat is more stable than oreo.
Will this is also fix the known WiFi bug that kills it on a previously failed OTA Oreo update?

I'm actually facing the Wifi Issue right now and I followed this guide to upgrade to Oreo. I'll let you know if I find the fix.

I have no problem nether with my WiFi or fingerprint scanner.
I assume the problem for failed Oreo update has something to do with file level encryption went wrong and your wpa_supllicant.conf got corrupted etc...
In this guide I mention to remove your pin from your phone, let it be default encryption key, first thing before taking any further actions.
So, when Oreo will settle (new install wizard where you connect to WiFi, your google account) then after that TWRP restores your previous wpa_supllicant.conf file with all your previous WiFi settings and everything should be working just fine.
And after that you can add pin code to the phone to encrypt that default encryption key further...

Did you remove pin code? (Before even flashing codeworx TWRP first time)
PS: what issues exactly do you have?

Actually I realized i was wrong the whole time. My work wifi was acting weird and it started working mid day lol. Your guide is excellent! It worked perfectly fine. Thanks for your help bro.
Worked perfectly.
Thank you very much Vlad_z!

Check that archive file for corruption with WinRar on PC.
Can you open some files from that data.ext4.win000 archive?
Was you phone encrypted on Nougat?
Did you remove pin before taking nandroid?
Did you use codeworx universal TWRP to take nandroid?
What steps did you do exactly?
Update work perfect !
I have only one problem, I can not access the internal storage on the pc. I can access from the pc Work in bootloader or recovery, but not if I am on android.

When you connect Android phone to PC, on phone you have to choose file transfer USB mode. By default it's charging only. So, you have to switch it to "File transfer" and then you can access your phone internal storage from PC.

Did you use codeworx universal TWRP to take nandroid?
What steps did you do exactly?

I have since managed to work round that problem by restoring apps with data using Titanium Backup instead of TWRP. Still not entirely sure what went wrong but apparently quite a common error restoring with TWRP. Took a bit of time to redo some settings and a couple of apps required reinstalling, but didn't lose anything of note.

Do you get bootloop if you flash ROM, delete cache, format data, and let it boot normally?

Did you flash magisk after or let it boot fully deleting root?

lineageos after update bootloop

After I downloaded today's update via the system and wanted to install it, I only get one bootloop at a time.
It looks like this:
- Power ON
- Warning notice the phone is unlocked
- OnePlus Logo (powered by Android)
- lineageos bootlogo
- Password input (to unlock the file encryption?)
- Android is started message
- lineageos bootlogo
after 2-3 minutes the OP3T restarts and boots into TWRP (3.3.1-0)
I also have to enter a password there (Decrypt Data).
Also the manual update via TWRP and /data/lineageos_updatest (lineage-16.0-20191105-nightly-oneplus3signed.zip) didn't help.
Under /data/data/org.lineageos.updater/ Missed the folder /app_updates
I also can't start TWRP normally I can only start TWRP via Fastboot Mode and PC
I use password, fingerprint and facial recognition

After downloading the zip in the Updater app, did you try to use the automatic flash or did you manually flash the zip?
If you've tried the automatic flashing and troed to boot to system you've messed up your setup (known issue in twrp-3.3-1.0), and you need to clean flash. You can try to format systrm and reflash rom, gapps and magisk, but I'm afraid you need to start from scratch.
For booting twrp: flash twrp from fastboot and reboot immediatly to recovery (not to system!!!).
That's how I do the update:
- Settings
- system
- Extended
- updater
click on the circle arrow symbol
- download
- Install
Phone restarts
TWRP Starts
Update will be installed
Telephone starts NEW/the system
The update before that I did exactly the same and that worked very well only this update did not work. I'll do a backup before every update because starting from scratch and doing it again is really annoying.
I installed TWRP according to these instructions:
https://wiki.lineageos.org/devices/oneplus3/install
Also I downloaded TWRP to my phone then I downloaded TWRP to the installer and installed the .img on Recovery.
So according to these instructions:
TWRP Install (Requires TWRP 2.8.4 or higher already installed):
Download the latest TWRP image file (.img) from the download link and boot TWRP. Go to install and find and select the Images... button. Browse to the image that you downloaded and select it. Choose recovery and swipe to flash.
I recommend reading and following:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/on...ment/rom-lineageos-16-0-oneplus-3-3t-t3866517
https://forum.xda-developers.com/on.../recovery-official-twrp-oneplus-3-3t-t3543391
twrp-3.3.1-0 has an issue with automatic flashing on encrypted devices. If you don't need a locked bootloader you can use the unofficial 3.2.3-10 from the thread linled above. If you need to use 3.3.1-0 flash the downloaded zip manually and wipe caches.
Sometimes magisk and/or magisk modules can cause bootloops - if you use magisk and/or magisk modules, uninstall all modules before uninstalling magisk before updating (according to the previous paragraph).
Before proceeding, I'd fix the "can not boot to recovery"-issue first. flash twrp via fastboot, honor the output (cut'n'paste, screenshot) and directly boot to recovery.
Sorry for asking, but what's magisk?
I will remain on the current TWRP and renounce the encryption. There is no disadvantage?
How should I proceed with Flash?
- Start in Fastbbot
- fastboot devices
- fastboot flash recovery <recovery_filename>.img
and then what?
Restart the device and after the warning, press volume keys and start Recovery?
I think it's done. It was my mistake / my impatience. After the warning screen was displayed and you switch to recovery mode, the phone turns off, vibrates and starts TWRP. Thanks anyway.

Why should you? See my previous posting, just update manually. If your bootloader is unlocked, encryption is the only way to ensure the privacy of data, if the phone is stolen/lost/etc. I strongly discourage the unencrypted use of our device!

Restore your los-16.0 backup and update manually in twrp-3.3.1-0.
All of the above is allready answered more then once in the threads I've linked for you in my last posting.

I'm aware of that, but so far I don't have anything on my device that could be used, all accounts have a 2 factor authentication and all apps are locked with pin and fingerprint. My phone is also always in my pocket and in all the years I have not lost anything yet thank you for the hint.
Can I download the updates on my PC?
If so, where?

I have already done everything new, thanks for the help, I will now make a backup before each update.
Which TWRP version is recommended?
I'm sorry for my not so good English, by the way.

If you've read the the first hit in the list, and don't know if you need magisk, the answer is no.
I've mentioned magisk and magisk modules because they are known to generate bootloops on rom updates sometimes. If you don't have it installed, you don't need to uninstall. The link I've given was a hint to do the minimal search yourself, when asking "What is magisk?".

To avoid any further misunderstandings:
My name is nvertigo67, not "ok google" or "alexa". Google yourself:
https://www.google.com/search?q=lineagesos+download
You can also just read the links, I've given in my first answer!
BTW: you can use Updater app for download and flash manually. Only the automatic flashing on encrypted data is broken with twrp-3.3.1-0. The download of the rom in Updater app is not effected.

This happened to me too. So you're saying there's no way around this but to start from scratch?
In the future, to avoid this, I presume we should download the zip and flash this manually from TWRP rather than use the OTA?
Is this a known issue with any plans for fixes? I've seen a few GH issues for it but none seem to concern the OP3T.

I did exactly the same thing and exactly the same result after the latest update.
I found this thread interesting. I had been automatic flashing my LOS 16 on my backup phone, did it about 10 times, never had an issue. I was encrypted after coming from stock OOS. Is this issue supposed to happen every time? Seems odd I never saw it as many times as I did the automatic update.

Some users suffers from this since last twrp update (3.3.1-0) every time they try(*), some users have used 3.3.1-0 without issues fpr months, and out of nowhere the issue hits them.
(*) I've seen reports of two users trying a second a a third time, most users manually flash after hitting this once.
If interested I recommend reading and following these threads, instead of asking here - it's all there:

THREAD CLOSED on request of OP!
I clearly recognise how intensive and qualified the support was that has been provided in this thread - and I'm not only convinced, I know it will be the same in other threads. On behalf of XDA I thank each and everybody for these efforts.
However, I think we shouldn't forget that XDA's audience is not only unique with it's more than 10 million members but - and not only due to the huge number of members - very heterogeneous with all different levels of experience of and times on Android. We not only appreciate the (Senior) Recognised Developers in the development fora with their products and codes but also the unexperienced users with their questions in the Q&A sections.
I know all more experienced members support them to the best extend but occasionally place yourself in the situation that you just got your first Android device being bored from years of using Apple...
Maybe this part of the rules describes it all:

Help with Moto G6 getting Error 1 while installining Gapps

Hi,
I installed the Revenge OS 3.2 Official but when installing the Gapps (I downloaded Gapps for android 10 Arm 64) I get this Error:
Updater process ended with error:1
Error installing zip file "/sdcard/download/open_gapps-arm64-10.0-stock-20201103.zip.
I had problems with the instalation of custom Rom so by mistake I deleted my recovery files... so cant recover to my stock version.
Pls can someone help with this problem, on the internet I only saw error:1 mentioned with magisk instalation and not Gapps.
Im using Moto G6 and I dont have an sd card, I dont know if thats a problem.
Thank you for help.

HI,
I used the 64 bit version for the instalation also found that the problem may be Error 64. I found that it may work if i mount the system but it didnt help. The other option was to get unzip binary but I couldnt find what they meant.
