[Q] How to hide apps in app drawer?

Is this possible with the stock Xperia launcher? I don't like using folders and I have way to many icons cluttering my launcher. Ideas or suggestions? Thanks.

It's not apps per say. It's those wallpaper apps that have silly app icons in the drawer. Like the SGSIII wallpaper, Nexus wallpaper, etc etc. See screen shot below. It's just a personal pet peeve of mine thats all. Something I used to be able to hide with the Xperia launcher add on while using my Samsung Galaxy S 4G. I thought the native Xperia launcher would have also had this feature natively.

but you still can make it a bit cleaner, why you dont reorganize yours apps?. I have on first screen only most used apps, on second - multimedia and navi, third - games, fourth - rare used, fifth - junk from system, like help ect.

hahha I'm not that organized. I usually have them in alphabetical order.

Again, why dont you just delete those apps? They dont come on generic firmwares, its just bloatware...delete them
Hiding them does nothing to free up space on your system, it just removes the icon..if you are that bothered about icons you might want to free up space, in which case you need to delete the apps.

so download the wallpaers to your gallery and delete the app...you sound like someone who wants their cake and wants to eat it..
If you want the app, its in your app drawer, if its no use to you delete it...

Not sure if you know but after the jb upgrade the app drawer supports custom ordering...you could hide them all on the last page!

Installing apk is all I did to get it working.
Maybe bad apk? Wipe broken google dialer and install apk below.
If it doesn't work, can you explain what happens when you try to launch?

Dialer apk was ok, it installed ok but FCs for some actions on contacts...

What actions, specifically? Just opening up contact list? Viewing a specific contact?
Did you disable apps like the default dialer?

Do i have to disable anything? I read elsewhere I need to keep Sony's dialer and contacts apps running, not disabled...

I was making sure you didn't disable them. Sorry for the confusion...
Seems odd it FCs...doesn't happen to me. I'm assuming all your contacts causes it to FC? If there are certain ones that don't FC, check the contact (one that causes to crash google)with stock app and see if somethings off. You don't see something like the one you see in the screenshot?

every time i click on a contact, either in the contact list or in the recent calls I get an Fc

FC also if I dial a number from the dialpad

I am trying to make it work on my z1 compact.
first it was fc-ing on dialing any number or contact. it also closes when i hit the recent calls tab.
I copied manually the app to system/priv-app, and ser permission rw-r-r. now i can dial, i can receive phone calls, but i cannot access recent calls.
i will try removing stock sony dialer.
P.S. removing stock dialer from priv-app turns into no signal on the phone.
i moved it back.
On startup, i get an fc from Google dialer, but afterwards it is working ok, minus the recent calls list.
Any ideas?
P.S.2 i disabled it. The in call menu is still the main phone app - sony. So i gave up on it.

Material MMS APK(AOSP)

Here is the MMS APK that has material design, yes it has quick reply.
I have pulled this APK from Euphoria ROM for my own use, but I thought some of you may wish to use it.

Yea but this is XDA. It's way to easy to install or update an app via the Play Store. XDA-style, we unlock the bootloader, install the new ROM, rip the apk of the app, then host it on a filesharing service. :highfive:

This is not the same app, the one you linked is the Google Messenger application, what I have posted is the AOSP MMS APK. This is the MMS apk you all are familiar with from CyanogenMod, but with a material design like the new Google Messenger app.

Was this actually updated with material on aosp or did someone customize it.

Thanks for the app link. It's so much better than the Google messenger. I couldn't stand not having the enter key and all the random colors for people.

Thanks for the apk, I have an issue. After I install and set as default messenger app I get a "wrong APN" popup on the screen that won't clear. I'm on Sprint, any ideas?

I'm on sprint also. No such issues. Try reinstalling the app
Edit. I'm having the same issue now. Please help.

Wow thanks for the heads up. Im in sprint also and almost try this out..

Is this a 5.0 AOSP MMS apk or is it at 4.4 hack??
Shows a lot of promise, but for now dark theme doesn't work for me and MMS shows as a slideshow only

I think you have to modify the apn to make it work. I know on custom roms sprint is having issues.

Its not going to work on a non rooted phone. The apk must be moved to /system/app

hmm. well this one works on nonrooted phone. just the apn issue. once i pull out my sim card, the apn setting comes back, but disappears when the sim card is inserted.
I need to figure something out. The stock messenger sucks badly.

Try the following:
Set hangouts as default messaging app -> open hangouts settings -> change MMS apn to something other than what is selected by default -> change default messaging app back to original.

'Ok Google' detection

Using CM 13 (28/04 build). One thing that is bugging me out for sometime, which is 'Ok google' detection from any screen is missing in Google Now settings.
On stock 6.0, Moto Voice serves as a back-end to Google Now search. So it kinda works from any screen and even if the screen is off.
So yeah, if anyone has any work around for it to act like 'always listening' , do tell. I would really appreciate it.

same here, ok google not working on NX ROM and RR ROM...i've tried in both, it does not works from any screen or with screen off....it only works from the google app itself

I have the same problem too. I am on NX Rom, NX Gapps.

I am using Micro Gapps. I will try Stock Nexus gapps from OpenGapps.

Tried the Stock Nexus Gapps. Sadly, no it didn't work out. I heard a lot of devices are missing 'ok google from anywhere' option in google now launcher settings ,including the famous Nexus 5X. Recently the update to google app broke it. I hope it works in the future though.
Some also say, Google disabled 'always on' feature to save up battery and people were accusing Google of spying on users through that function.
I gave up, may be I will return to Stock 6.0 (Moto Voice FTW! ?) , may be not. [emoji4]

okay google is working fine again use open mic+ you can also set a custom phrase, its working flawless and also its really fast reminds me of the moto voice on stock android

Google is blocking this app. now.
All the search commands and queries go through a separate server which appears to me a lot shady, not to mention all those permissions one has to provide after installing the app.
Last but not the least it's a battery hog. It eats up battery like hell cause of triggering so many wake locks so many times.

oh i see, but its really working fine for me, i'm not using google now launcher, i was using trebuchet launcher, now i'm using nova launcher and its working great

yeah you can give it a shot if you're on a custom rom, it doesn't matter even if you're not on a custom rom, just don't use GNL use some other launcher like nova and delete GNL if you have root access then install nova launcher and should work fine

when i installed nova launcher and accessed the settings, all it did was to direct me to the google now voice settings, which still had the options missing...

He is using a third party app. called OpenMic+.

yes that's the problem, google has disabled this maybe in the future updates it will be there again like it was and that's why i'm using open mic+ without any issues, you can set custom phrase like moto voice and also works on lockscreen or even if the screen is off and its really fast, but don't use open mic+ with google now launcher, it won't be accurate or it won't response that well, if you are rooted and have Google Now Launcher installed i suggest you to delete GNL and use nova launcher instead

Google assistant not working

After 3 weeks of use, it takes this time to have the Nex3 in good shape, I still have some minor problems like Edison Mail It does not show the number of unread emails in the icon, Twitter freezes when you try to open a link in Brave ...
But the most annoying thing is that Google Assistant does not work well. When I invoke it saying "ok Google" with the unlocked phone sometimes works and sometimes not. I have checked the voiceprint, permissions, I have installed Google services ... Any idea what may be failing?

For me google assistant works fine. No Problems Here. Only Google Pay wont work.
For the not showing Numbers try to change the permissions within the system. I need to manually change it for popups and notifications. The vivo Launcher Blocks anything.

Is the launcher still something like bbk.launcher in adb? I remember doing that with my original nex. I really like this phone so far and having Nova I'd be a happy man haha

yeah you have to remove the stock one after had installed third party one .
You can always re-enable the stock one by using adb . Just tried successfully...

Awesome!!! Well I know what I'm doing when I get home.
Now I just have to figure out my other issue, I can't get this phone to cast to my Chromecast which is weird

Is google pay working for anyone? and are there any apps that don't work or work correctly?
