Note 5 vs Note 4 Exynos

Been on the fence trying to decide which one I want for the past two weeks.
Know the 5 blows away the Note 4 Snapdragon version performance wise but just how much faster and smoother is it compared to the Exynos version?
Can those of you who upgraded share your experience?
Was it really an upgrade?
Did you notice a big jump in performance?
How does the screen compare?

Sorry if this is not the comment you are looking for since I came from a Note 2, but I think it may help. When it comes down to deciding between these two phones (the same choice I had to make recently) it all comes down to the few features that are different and whether or not you NEED root. Removable battery was the biggest one for me but I think that issue will be taken care of by the battery cases once they are out, that said the battery lasts pretty long for 3000mah (I had a 6400mah in my note 2 and this lasts almost as long). If you NEED to root the phone for any reason you may as well go with a Note 4, since you lose Samsung pay capabilities which is one of the stand out features of this phone. If you NEED an IR sensor, again Note 4. If you want a really fast starting camera, want Samsung pay, don't mind using a USB SD card reader for expansion storage, a fingerprint reader that works great, and don't mind the non replaceable battery the Note 5 is a killer phone. It has surpassed all of my expectations coming up from a Note 2 that had Root, a 6400mah battery etc... This will be my first phone without root access, but I feel like I will not be missing too much. Hope this might help in your decision process, but if not just ignore.

The same architectural reasons Exynos was superior are the answer as to why the Note 5's Exynos chip is superior to the Note 4's. Each generation of new (not revised) chips are a leap above their predessors. S-810 being the exception because while it hit its performance expectations you could fry an egg with it.

It's just my opinion, but I can't imagine basing a decision like this on how smoothly the device scrolls pages on the homescreen or flips between apps. It's amazing how much influence Apple's propaganda has had on even non-Apple users.

Thanks for the opinion/feedback.
Some people are power users and when you have two of the most powerful sports cars side by side àll of a sudden performance becomes one of the most important deciding factors and not just cargo space or gas mileage if that makes sense.
Knowing the Note 5 is the latest and greatest, I'm not expecting the performance to be night and day vs the already proven note 4.
However I would like to know if the hype really is worth the extra 3-400 more dollars considering everything Samsung left off the table (no SD, no ir, removable battery etc)
My question is, is the performance of the 7420 processor a big noticeable difference vs the 5433 on the Note 4 or is it a small noticeable difference?
Keep in mind this is touchwiz Not Apple
P.S most articles & reviews are comparing the Note 4 Snapdragon vs the Note 5 Exynos which really isn't that fair a comparison. (Including the one you linked above)

Just overall how fluid is the OS and overall user experience?
I had a chance to test the Note 5 at Best Buy recently and really liked the experience.
Everything was instant iphone like.
Have to admit love or hate them, Apple builds a rock solid user experience on lesser hardware and Android as great as it is can take a page from Apple based on this aspect alone.
While using the Note 5, I didn't experience any lag which for Samsung has been a problem with the user experience for years.
Of course the 805 Snapdragon Note 4 sitting next to it had some lag going through the menus, web browsing, email usage videos on Touchwiz etc
Wasn't bad but noticeable from time to time.
Even after rebooting the phone.
Granted both units were stock and the Note 4 was over a year old BUT I've never had a chance to use the Exynos Note 4 which everyone seems to praise for its snappy performance.
So I say this to ask for those of you who have use both the N910C and now the Note 5, how close would you say the Exynos Note 4 user experience is compared to the Note 5 based on what I said above?

The SoC alone doesn't determine performance. The Note 5 has uber-fast UFS storage and LPDDR4 RAM including an extra GB of the latter. That and the streamlining and minimization Samsung's done with the UI and their apps contribute to a huge and noticeable difference in performance. It's especially noticeable when working with big I/O sensitive apps like S Note and Gallery. Whether that's worth X$ more is up to you.

Feedback on performance is subjective. This article compares the two Exynos chips. If you're looking at the SoC alone it's pretty clear the 7420 is a huge generational leap over 5430/3.

There is more to user experience than fluid animations in the UI, and trends in the market have proven that out. Apple has done more apeing of Android in recent years than the other way around. For example, they told us that the 3G/4/4s were the perfect size for user experience. Android OEMs proved that optimizing a display for the eyes by making it larger was more important than optimizing it for the thumb. Apple made fun of Android, but since the iPhone 5 their displays have gotten larger. They also had the perfect screen resolution before increasing theirs to match Android starting with the iPhone 6.
In the UI, Apple used to mock widgets as confusing and unnecessary UI clutter before they added something sorta like widgets to iOS. They also had to catch up to Android's better implementation of notifications. And iOS is still famously non-customizable, which keeps lots of people away from it.
So obviously Android is doing a few things right when it comes to user experience, which is why I wrote:

I don't need Apple propagandists telling me what perfect user experience is so I'll think their designers and engineers have miraculously produced that for me.
If fluid animations in the UI is what defines good user experience for you, then you should consider the iPhone S6 Plus. I hear it's a great device.

In 2015, you don't hear those stories coming from the Apple camp and lets face it you still hear that coming from Android users with newer devices.
To me the Note 5 is the first Android phone I've used that's "lag free" in fluidity.
That may not mean much to you guys but I'd say that's damn good considering the amount of lag complaints re: touchwiz all over the internet.
Which leads me back to my original point...I don't need to "just buy an iphone if I want to avoid lag!"
In my opinion, I think that's an absurd comment considering the power these devices have and the fact I'm on an Android tech forum praising the Note 5 for its speedy performance!!!!
Being very familiar with both OSs & phones and a fan of good tech overall, I say its good to see both camps producing great products.

Well...I have owned both the Note 4 Exynos and Snapdragon versions, and atm I have the Note 5.
The N4 SD we can disregard completely as the Exynos version is much smoother and faster, and without the overheating issues of the SD.
The N4 Exynos with stock rom I found basically pretty smooth, but even so still some improvements were necessary.
With a custom rom and custom kernel (and a couple other build.prop tweaks) everything was rather very smooth and fast and I could use my N4 almost to full satisfaction.
I am specifically referring to scrolling behaviour and speed of opening apps. Also worth mentioning is RAM management (far too quickly closing of recent apps).
This has never been great on TW phones, and indeed this goes for both Note 4's and also the Note 5.
Now...the Note 5. Speed and smoothness are exceptional imo, even on stock rom and without a custom kernel. But...RAM management is still crap to be honest!
Just 3 or 4 apps recent apps and you will find one closed when you open a 5th app...ridiculous really (especially with so much RAM).
So, I rooted my Note 5 and applied some build.prop tweaks and now RAM management is great.
I can easily open more than 15 (!) apps and not have them closed automatically by TW. Scrolling is also a bit more smooth with the build.prop tweaks implemented.
Thirdly you can activate the 'Enforce GPU rendering' option within Developer Menu. It does help somewhat with smoother scrolling.

Sorry but on my unrooted and updated Note 5 I currently have 21 recent apps listed, and you would never know as there is no slowdown and no RAM issues.

Hmm...that sure is weird indeed...but good news for you I based my point on my own experience, and also on user experience on Dutch Note 5 forum and XDA, as well as several news stories / reviews which also had the RAM management issue. Strange case apparently then of some Note 5's performing well and other don't
Oh and btw...I was referring very specifically to recent apps being CLOSED unnecessarily by TW. From your remark it isn't clear whether you have this issue or you don't. You only say 'there is no slowdown and no RAM issues'. I have no slowdown on my Note 5. Just making sure everybody's on the same page here

They are "present" in recent apps visually but when you re-open them you'll find they reload. Samsung's explanation is that apps beyond a certain (unexplained) threshold are killed to maximize battery life. It doesn't really affect me the way I use my phone but it bothers the crap out of some people.

Thanks for the clarification, I have never noticed an issue with apps reloading but probably because it really doesn't make a difference as quick as everything opens. I'll keep an eye on it though.

I also agree with both of you, with the speed of the Note 5 opening apps is no problem really...even when they are closed automatically too quickly. With my former Note 4 this really was an issue. Not so much with the Note 5 :good:

I messed around with a Note 4 (SM-N910C/Exynos 5433) right after a Note5 at a Samsung store in Bangkok today. I noticed no lag, frame drops or hesitation in either device. Both were running 5.1.1.

Should I upgrade to Mi 5?

Hey guys,
I am currently using a oneplus 2 but i am pretty impressed by the looks and the egronomics of mi5 not to mention how thin and light weight this device is. Keeping everything simple n straight, I just wanted to ask that is it wise to upgrade to mi 5?
My main priorities in preferred order are battery life, custom rom development, camera and then everything else.
My usage pattern includes a lot of continuous gaming preferably online multiplayers like mini militia and MC4.
On the contrary, I still prefer compact devices with a 5 inch display over a 5.5 inch.
My oneplus 2 is still rocking and I can easily get 2.5-3hrs of SOT with gaming and 4-4.5hrs without it.
Moreover, I wanted to know about the known cons or problems with mi 5 if any as if by any chance buy it, I'll be using it for at least 2yrs. I am just hesitant to buy it because only the 32gb version is available in my region and the phone I am currently using already has 4gb ram and 64gb storage!
I'll be grateful for any helps and suggestions!

Since you are already with one plus I would recommend you upgrade to the OnePlus 3/3T
Mi 5 is a great phone for sure but OP3 is much better for sure also if you are ok with the extra money

I see there is a lot less community development going on as no one seems to be really interested in replying with an reasonable suggestions or help as its been long since I asked for them!
Anyways, I'll still wait for someone to come up until I don't buy some new device!

well, personally, i dont really like how op3/t looks, and 5.5 is too big for my taste. if you looking for decent camera, performance, and looks, i definetely consider mi5 altho OP3/T is so much better in terms of performance and rom dev as you can see, right now i'm rocking purenexus custom rom on my mi5 and the performance is top notch tho camera still prefer miui based rom. Anyway, these are some points from my usage :
1. Battery life is decent in original MIUI rom, but best at Purenexus rom, beware not all custom rom have great battery life
2. the vibration motor in Mi5 isnt as good as others, even compared to mi4c, i know, its nitpicking, but really for long term use this little thing is quite significant
3. 3GB of RAM arent enough for me at least. if u interested, please consider the 4gb ones
4. fingerprint is not that fast, and the area is quite small
If you really wanna use this phone for at least 2 years, i do think OP3T is your best choice for support. but idk, the kernel source of Mi5 already out, so maybe we'll see better support.

Mi5 is really great device, it is very cheap, and the specs are very impressive. the battery life is very good, here is a picture of my results but note that I don't play games. Custom ROM development is good, not the best nor the worst. I think you should consider waiting a bit more and buy mi6. it will be a little but more expensive but the specs will be much better.

I've considered buying MiA2 this month for my daily driver. Previously I used Pocophone f1 and sold it immediately after 1 month usage because I'm so tired of that stupid touch issues. And I also already used Redmi Note 5 (whyred) before, I bought it in first week release. And I'm not really satisfied with the performance (it's underclocked version of 660) that's why I upgraded to poco.
Currently I'm using my old s7 edge, and it's really not optimized for pubg mobile.
The MiA2 battery life won't bother me, even tho it has 3000mah. I always use greenify and it also has qc3.0 so that won't be problem.
I play pubg in my free time, so tell me about the gameplay performance (if you use gfxtool or such thing for 60fps) because I've seen everywhere that SD660 and adreno 512 is capable and optimized for this game.
The only thing I scared is the touch issues, I want to know about the touch responsiveness and touch latency on this phone. Is it good? Normal? Or there is problem and it's kind of laggy and not responsive to swipe, scroll or typing fast?
It's really annoying issue on poco, you can't type fast, you can't swipe or scroll freely without lags, and you can't play games because of the unresponsive crazy touch. I hope there is no such thing on MiA2

In my opinion don'y buy this phone for PUBG, it doesn't even run stable 60fps and idk if it's the same problem you mentioned with the Poco, but I'm having touch and responsiveness issues myself. Get something with a SD8xx.

I use gfx tool and get a stable 60 fps on balanced graphics. The performance of this phone is pretty solid and can play any games at almost max settings. There's no problem in touch responsiveness and the stock OS feels great. I'd have gotten the poco f1 if I simply needed pure gaming performance. The difference between normal day to day usage experience of Mi A2 and poco f1 is negligible. Typing, scrolling and basic touch functions are great. I'd recommend this phone to you if you can overlook a few bugs like the proximity sensor.

I never had any touch and responsiveness issues whatsoever. Might be a software bug. Try a factory reset and see if it fixed it.

I am using stock pie and the proximity bug is kind of a hit or miss situation. It works most of the time, but when it doesn't it's really annoying. The placement of the sensor is a little odd and I don't think it is simply a software issue. Although in pie, it's much more better than Oreo.

I personally never had any major issues with this phone, i'm really enjoying a great cheap phone. The closest competitor in Brazil, hardware wise, is roughly double the price, which is the Moto Z3 Play running the SD636. I Had the CPU Maxed out bug but Xiaomi solved it on the 2nd October Update. Since then the device is running great, but heavy gaming isn't good. Regular games like Clash of Clans, Temple Run 2, Clash Royale, etc will run absolutely fine, but heavier titles like PUBG will struggle. It's definitely playable, but not the smoothest experience. For that you should look into the OnePlus 6/6T or anything else running an SD835 or SD845.
Even though it's a 3000mAh battery, It performs admirably, and people are saying it get's even better on Pie, which I didn't receive yet.

Same, whatever custom rom based on oreo and pie including Lineage. Nothing's changed, and it's only get worse on MIUI beta where they said they fix it in that firmware update. Some said on Lineage 16 it's better but not fixed, the problem still there.
And I sold it immediately, xiaomi and poco team seems like they don't even care about that problem.
Well I just hope that this MiA2/6x got the fix for the issue. I hate notches, this is one of the few 660 without notch.
Anyone using Mi6x? Is it good as the A2 besides the Android One and MIUI?

It's really annoying issue on poco, you can't type fast, you can't swipe or scroll freely without lags, and you can't play games because of the unresponsive crazy touch. I hope there is no such thing on MiA2
fyi, I also root my phone. So root or twrp to fix some problems is okay for me as long there is a fix for the problem.

I never had any issues with PUBG. It automatically detected and set to medium texture and I even played in HD and it worked flawlessly. I never had a single lag or freeze. The performance is solid. Go for it.

My opinion is that the phone is overall great. Not the best value for the money and I'm certainly not happy with the state of custom development or lack thereof. But a SD660 should be good for gaming (which I don't care about), the phone is snappy in day to day usage and the battery is decent. Cameras are also pretty good.
The thing is that it's just not what I wanted or thought it was going to be like and if I could choose again, I'd probably choose the Note 5 Plus (SD636) or the A2 Lite at the time that I've bought it, and definitely the F1 had I waited 2-3 months more.
Never the less, I'll keep on using it because there is simply nothing wrong with the phone, it's just not the best value.

I've had the Mi A2 since launch (the 6GB/128GB variant) and, because I never had high expectations (e.g., flagship performance/features), I'm generally happy with it.
The first few months were hit and miss with stability issues (CPU frequency/eMMC slowness/battery life) but the Mi A2 is at a point where it works well enough to recommend. Everything about it is far above average but not quite excellent (e.g., 7.5/10).
The only caveat is cellular connectivity. In Canada, it works okay. In the US, it's hit or miss but in Asia, its intended territory, it excels.

That's what I thought, SD660 is good for pubg. Even not all SD835 devices optimized for that game.

I live in Asia so cellular connectivity won't be problem. It's a good phone but not the best. From what I see most Xiaomi devices suffers from issues on the first few months, it's usual thing for Xiaomi and that's kinda sucks.

Nexus S -> galaxy S2-> Nexus 4 -> LG G2->oneplus one, and now Mi A2 128GB 6GB ram.

Galaxy s2 360 euros (new)
Nexus 4 almost 500 euros (second hand)
Lg g2 190 euros (second hand)
Oneplus one 64GB (second hand) 230 euros

So the OPO was with me from beginning of 2015 up to a week ago. Went from COS, to CM, to Lineage OS, had to change firmware files for modem and such, data would stop working, random reboots when using waze, etc. Loved the opo, and if it wasnt these issues, mainly the lack of battery life and the rabdom reboots, i would have stayed with it one more year.
Back to now, Mi A2, is a Nexus, or a pixel for the "poors", we will have the updates thats sure, and sure it wont take 6 months like skinned android. So thats great. And one of the things im most looking for.
SD660, is great, but the gpu... It's nothing special. Expect medium settings.
Ram? More than enough. Now where it may lose most of it speed is in the emmc department, emmc 5.1 is fast! But nothing like UFS wich is basically equivalent to a good sata ssd.
I dont regret my purchase, its way faster than the opo althought it also had emmc 5.1, the screen looks great, camera had me impressed, battery life ? (65GB of apps and games?). Better than this, there is the F1 but... Plastic? Iphony android? Almost 100 euros more for half the storage (which is ufs on the F1), infrared for faceunlock (could not care less for that),a "better'" camera and SoC.
If gaming is your main point, go F1! Or since you had a bad experience, go 6T?
If gaming is secondary like for me it is... Got a 1070 Ti at home, no need to game on the phone ? for me, my phone is listen to music, mail, messages, take random pics and browse the web.
And you prefer updates, build quality, and saving some money to buy cases, a powerbank, a QC 3.0 charger,... Go Mi A2 ?

Do you activated performance mode?

I tried that but it didn't make a difference. After all, from what I know about performance mode, doesn't it only make your screen brighter?
Plus I also don't see why I would have to resort to turning on performance mode for a flagship

Samsung provides game optimization service and game tuner and stuff. It is worth a try.

I tried them as well. Still use their game launcher for my pubg but no effect as well

The problem
I currently have a base model Galaxy S22 Exynos and everything has been fine except battery life. I'm thinking of getting a Pixel 7 and I need your help to decide if it would be worth it. I have already disabled 5g and aod disabled, did most of the optimizations in the S22 thread but still, it can not last through a full day with what I would consider light use but you tell me.
My usage
I love listening to music on spotify, bt headphones, I use a lot of discord, messenger, and instagram chat, watch a lot of tiktok and youtube videos, and browse chrome. I commute and use 4g a lot. With my current usage the S22 battery discharges really fast.
S22, the good and the bad
While I love a lot about my S22, especially the high refresh rate screen sith symmetrical bezels, the battery on this phone is just plain bad and can not get me reliably through the day without battery anxiety. I feel miserable having to micro manage the battery in order to not run out of battery by the end of the day.
I am looking to buy a Pixel 7, because it ticks most of what I want in a phone:
- Good photos
- Snappy performance
- Very clean UI (although might be too clean with little customization options)
- Elegant, unique body
- High refresh rate amoled screen
So how has been your Pixel 7's battery life? While according to dxomark and gsmarena battery drain tests the P7 should have slightly better battery life, I have also read that it doesn't translate to significantly better battery life IRL usage. I don't want to upgrade if the P7 will only give me 30 more minutes of SOT, because there are a lot of things I love about the S22. S23 is too expensive atm.
So should I get rid of my S22 in favor of the Pixel 7? Do you think it would give me better battery life?

Software updates do mess up the Pixel 7 but with the February patch, I have been getting good battery life. I don't know how much SOT I get from my phone since I just charged it at the time I am writing this but every time I have 100% before I go to school, I always end up with about 50-70% by the time I get home and for the late nights around midnight, I end up with 20-40% left of battery life. To me, that's good enough for my usage since I don't game on my Pixel.

This is my battery for Pixel 7:
It took some optimizing to get it good (Stock Google) but i'd say about 2 to 3 days on one charge is no problem with normal use (no gaming).
Have the adaptive battery off, it doesn't let phone go to deep sleep.
The 0.6% per hour while screen is off is amazing for the Tensor G2 chip.

It only seems to drain the battery when I'm actually using the app, so that's not really an issue because I'm in bed most of the times.

What about getting a wireless charging ring? Might solve your current dilemna!

Pixel phones are basically Android equivalent of iPhones. By that I mean you'll miss a lot of useful features if moving from other brands.
Pixel phones are just about their cameras. Although cameras are a very important consideration, there are several other equally (may be more) important things to consider when evaluating a smartphone.
The so called 'clean' or 'Stock Android' experience doesn't translate to better performance or battery life. On the contrary, they are actually worse compared to competition. The UI is overrated and cannot compensate for the lack of so many useful features present on Samsung and all Chinese brands.
If you are fine with good cameras (i.e. being absolute best isn't a requirement), you can consider Vivo X90 Pro, iQOO 11, OnePlus 11, etc. since S23 is ruled out for its price.

You are right and that is exactly what i was thinking. There exists a couple of magsafe wireless powerbanks that I could use and I already have magsafe rings that I can attach to any case I want.
But
1. I don't think the powerbanks would actually fit, because they would be blocked by the camera bump so they wouldn't sit flush with the back glass.
2. I don't want to play this minigame where i micro manage my phone to see where when and how I can charge it. I am also not into randomly whipping out a powerbank that's twice as thick as my phone because it can't hold a charge for more than a few hours.
Hence, I've decided to switch.

Unfortunately, the first 2 are not available in my country and the Oneplus 11 is above my budget.
I am aware that Google's version of android has it's limitation, however, I love the clean, bloat-free UI and the phone looks so insanely cool! It also has relatively thin bezels, good high refresh rate screen. It ticks most of my criterias for a phone just like my S22, the only thing that keep's me from switching is not knowing how much better the battery life would be.
Although I do have to say that from 100-7% I got 6h 26m of SOT (Lots of tiktok, instagram, chrome, discord, infinity, messenger and tinder) and 21h 7m standby, so perhaps maybe I'm the one being out of touch how long batteries should last?

If you spend a little bit time, any OEM version of Android can be made super clean. And the several built-in useful features that are not available on Pixels will make the overall experience much better.

I hope I can gaslight myself into thinking that I'm being unreasonable and this is absolutely fine battery life before I get my paycheck next month. According to dxomark, gsmarena and battery drain tests, the Pixel 7 should be much better for browsing and social media.

I'm not talking about launcher features at all. There are several features built-in at the software level on OEM builds such as Samsung's OneUI, OnePlus' Oxygen OS, iQOO's FunTouch OS, etc. that do not have a solution using 3rd party apps. So Pixel users will have to live without these features, and it is a difficult proposition for those who come from other brands.

6 hours of SOT with 20 hours of standby is quite good by today's standards. I don't think Pixel will last this long. With some Chinese brands like iQOO, Vivo, OnePlus, etc., you can expect to get an extra hour or two of battery life.

I totally do not agree at all with this.
I've been using the pixel 5 until recently and had all OnePlus devices up until the 5t. They were great and eben superior to the pixels.
Now I use the pixel 7 pro and it's absolutely amazing in pretty every aspect I can think of.
I only wished it was smaller and made of aluminum, just as the 5 was.
Anyways, before purchasing the p7p,I tried the s22 and hated it pretty much immediately.
That thing is cluttered with tons of software no one needs. Yes, there are dinner features that's might be useful, but not many. And if I want to, I can always find similar apps on there playstore.
What I can't do, is get rid of most of these apps, as they are baked into the system.
Comparing the s22 and the p7p I found the pixel much snappier, which is ridiculous, considering the in theory much more powerful hardware.
Battery life on the s22 was ok, but not brilliant on WLAN. Maybe 6 hours of sot with mostly reading on website and streaming media.Battery life.
Battery life on the p7p in WLAN was about 10-11 hours!
I can't say though how good it is outside of wlan as I only own it for a couple days and still use my old phone until I have all logins etc ready.
Anyways, I'm not missing any relevant features on the p7p, photos are great, it's snappier, than the s22 and updates come all the time.
My recommendation is to get the p7 or 07p instead of the s22.
The only downside really is the size.

The most important benefit of having a feature built into the system is the quality of output. Third party apps do not always provide the same experience. That is also because of restrictions placed on them. System apps have a higher privilege set than user apps. Take for example, Scrolling Screenshots. Or Call Recording.
This is why I prefer OEM builds over Stock Android because 3rd party apps fail to provide quality output, both due to Android restrictions as well as due to lack of proper optimizations.
I have seen several reviews of Pixels and don't remember seeing anything that makes them stand out in terms of performance or battery life. So the whole purpose of having a 'clean' software is defeated.
That said, I have written a post where I have compared the software features of various OEM builds. Since I don't own a device from each brand, I need confirmation from real users of respective devices.
There are about 25 features that I really look forward to on my smartphones, and the lack of availability of some of those are indeed deal breakers for me. For example, lack of gesture support for system navigation when using 3rd party launchers on Xiaomi devices alone is a reason why I wouldn't buy them!
As far as Pixels are concerned, there is only one feature that they have that no other phones have: offline transcription with voice recordings. But Pixels lack many features that other OEM builds offer, enough to rule them out in the purchase decision.
Can you tell me which of the features listed there are available on Pixel phones? This will give clarity on what to expect from Pixel devices.

Wait.... this is considered good SOT? Have I been living under a rock? I will **** my pants if watching videos and social media / browsing infinity reddit is considered heavy usage to the point that it is surprising that I got 6.5h SOT.
Most of it was on Wi-Fi, around 30% was on mobile data (4G). I have 5G disabled as my mobile carrier doesn't support it. I have also disabled a bunch of apps through adb, disabled execution of cached apps, most of my apps are in deep sleep and I don't have any applications installed that I don't use. I also use bixby routines to minimize overnight drain. I also have adaptive battery enabled. I also have bixby routines to turn on power saving mode when using power hungry apps. I'm on One UI 5.0 and will not upgrade to 5.1 because of insanely buggy software. That's it

The battery life questions about the Pixel 7 still stands, and I am looking even more into getting rid of my S22 as battery life has been significantly worse after getting a bt headphone and listening to music.

My answer still stands. Don't expect magic from Pixel 7. The battery life you quoted for your S22 is what we see usually in premium phones, although it would vary depending on the quality and number of apps installed.
You can consider Motorola phones. Their cameras are very good and will give you 'Stock Android' like experience (aka lack of many useful features), since iQOO, Vivo, OnePlus and Xiaomi phones are probably not selling where you live.

It's uni season so I'm on the go much more often. I don't get nearly as much SOT as I have previously. My questions wasn't if the S22's battery life is okay but rather if the Pixel 7 could give me more autonomy.

Pixel phones are only about their cameras. There is nothing special about stock Android or their so called 'clean' software (I have already explained why that is so). And you get great cameras (if not absolute best) with other brands too.
Have you considered doing a factory reset of your S22? That might help. Also try and stick with installing only the essential apps that you use regularly.
I might also add something here. I can relate to how you feel. You have kind of tuned your mind to get the Pixel 7 now. If you can resist this urge for a month or two, the desire to buy it will fade away.
The reason I suggest you don't make the switch is primarily because I think it won't serve the purpose you're looking for. Or at the very least, won't justify losing money on the S22 and spending on getting the Pixel 7, unless there is a really good deal on offer.
