What is the best RoM so far!? - Galaxy Note5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I bought Note 5 4 months ago and I used to have note 3 and I rooted it and tried plenty of ROMS , ones with some mistakes such as restarting automatically .. etc.
and when I bought my Note 5 I didn't want anything bad happen to it but I want to try The Oreo Update so what is the best ROM to have Oreo for note 5 with fewer problmes !?

Is there any Hardware issues found in Galaxy Note 5 Duos?

am asking because i want to buy galaxy Note 5 duos,,& also had Galaxy Note 4 n910g ,which is dead now coz of Motherboard failure,so please guys help me to know that note 5 duos is safe, thanks
I am using the Hongkong Version SM-N9200 (previously I had the Taiwanese SM-N9208). I have a custom deodexed rooted Grace UX 6.0.1 ROM running with complete dual SIM support, all LTE frequencies working and even Xposed Framework on top.
Everything working pretty fine and without any problems, no wakelocks and pretty good battery life with around 1,5-2 days with several hours SOT.
In my opinion the Note5 is even now (it is 1,5 years old now, or maybe nearly 2) a very good choice and a good everyday companion!

Samsung Galaxy Note 8 rom for Note 3

Now that the much anticipated Samsung device was launched and because we've had in the past Note 3 to Note 5 and Note 3 to Note 7 ported roms, will this Note 3 to Note 8 be possible? I surely hope so bc this would bring a sense of fresh air into my Note 7 AHEM Note 3 xD

Maybe better to ask this in the Galaxy Note 3 forum Dev's here won't be porting it to a Note 3.
But an answer to your question, Yes it sure will be possible. providing the Note 3 dev's have not left you to buy the Note 8
I'm sure someone will get to work on it as soon as the system dump is available shortly after release day.

i just waiting just like you for that new.rom
Actually, believe it or not I'm missing Action memo and personally liked old S-note much better. And frankly I don't see much software difference between N7 and N8, so you may be little disappointed.
two simple ways to do this.
1. Download the rom from: www.note8roms/downloads/note3/bootloaderunlocker/simfreeunlocktool
2. Go buy a Note 8
Edit: I just realized you dont need step 1 after all

Should I get the Note 8?

I am thinking about buying it but I am not sure yet since I read that it's harder to develop roms for this device and I don't want to be stuck on android pie when the next android version comes out because of that. What I want to know is if it would be a good idea to buy it if I want to keep it for a few years (3-4) or should I buy another phone?
I can tell you this:
The note 8 is an excellent device, I think pie will be the last major firmware update for it from samsung , I skipped the note 9, as I think a two year cycle is adequate, in your case, it is ultimately about how much money you are willing to spend, you can get a new note 8 very cheap, but if android Q and the next one is of so much importance to you, then get a note 9 or wait for the note 10 that I expect to be formidable
If getting note 8 and want root and custom roms then go for SM-N950F / F/DS / N (exynos soc versions).
Stay away from the USA/Canadian versions SM-N950U/U1/W they have locked bootloader.

Thanks for the info. I am also considering to buy one since it's a well built phone and is cheap now. I don't really care about the android but Samsung gave pip on nougat so I guess I won't miss out any new features and I will have a secondary mi a1 which has been through rigorous flashing of roms:silly:

i'm in the Same case. I've Skipped the note 9 and waiting for the 10. And as you said, the note 8 is excellent "and can still run for a long time for all the peoples who don't care about the newest tech and the lastest useless features. I mean, why 3 or 5 rear Cameras when the note8 shots very well with its actual config. it's just an example
Is the battery still good guys?
Samsung said it will still hold 95 percent charge after 2 years is that true?
Is the fingerprint sensor really as bad as they say?
My note 8 is 16 months old, and the battery is as good as day one, accubattery reports that it charges up to 3325 mAh, and the fingerprint sensor is always accurate, it reads in less than a second, but this is MY experience

Android Pie will be the last major update for the Note 8, but it should keep getting security updates for another year or so. If Samsung doesn't release Android 10 firmware, then it can't be ported to the Note 8. There's no AOSP projects for the Note 8, so that won't be ported, either.
If you want to get a device that will keep getting new Android version updates, rather get a Pixel device. If you get the Note 8, you get it for the added features Samsung provides, and not because of their update schedule.
I guess, ultimately, it's down to whether you always want the newest version, or whether you want certain added features. Myself, I prefer the features the Note 8 provides. I'm happy staying on Android Pie for the next year or two until I decide to upgrade my device again to the then latest Note device.
If you shop around you could probably get a Note 9 for a excellent price. However if you are strapped for cash, then the Note 8 is an excellent device. I purchased the Note 8 shortly after the SGS9 series release and I am perfectly happy with my decision and will probably be using it until the battery starts to degrade.

Longevity of the device

I am looking to upgrade a failing Note 3. It's beginning to have hardware issues.
I've had the Note 3 for 5 years now. The only way I've kept it running is with the custom ROMs from XDA. The Stock ROM was just too bloated and slow after a couple years of use.
As I understand it the Snapdragon model of the Note 9 is locked down and cannot be updated past what Samsung allows.
Will the Note 9 be useless in 3 years or will it be able to be updated by the community by then.
Thanks,
That is an open question, but a qualified no is perhaps the most accurate answer that could be given

I don't think you can use backup from a higher os version and restore it on a lower os version. But as someone already said try and see what happens
Yeh you can only restore on same os or higher. Obviously if your note 9 is updated, you won't have a problem.
Yes. You can download your Note 9 cloud backup onto your new Note 10 for use.
As I did that with my Note 9 when my Note 8 suffered a OS issue due to a update, which was late resolved with another update a couple of days earlier.
