Hello, my Nexus 5X has bootlooped for the second time and I'm on my second version. Sort of getting sick of this and looking for a new 4.5-5" screen phone. I was looking at the X Compact or XZ1 Compact. My biggest qualifier for what I want in a phone is something that is rootable where I can run Adblock to block ads. I don't really mind about anything else, I just don't want to see ads. I was wondering what the current status is on unlocking bootloader, rooting, and running rooted on the Sony XZ1 Compact? I appreciate any information, thank you.
Well, first of all, if u r really interested in an Xperia, u can can forget the easy life of modding of a Nexus. Not that is impossible but no near at levels of a Nexus, One Plus, Motorola or Pixels...
I'm sure sooner or later it will be possibile to Root without losing our Drm keys, but it will be a pain in the ass. At least compared at what u r used to with your Nexus.
And by the way, there are no-root ways for your ads problem...

Ah, I see. I was just reading about the DRM Keys problem. And right now there's no way to Root, Install F Droid, Install Adaway? I know development is probably in the early stage, since the phone is relatively new. Maybe I should check back in a few months
There's a beta release of LineageOS, and it has a DRM patch (so everything should be working). If you still want to stay stock, try DNS66. It's not as good as Adaway, but it's better than nothing...

hello guys ....few questions here .... as im still on Z3C at the moment planing to get a XZ1C so i cannot test myself these...yet
Can this substratum theme change the battery icon to something like the one on the stock LP or MM .... i think is the best looking icon (with included + for stamina ) not the stock android one ???
are the quick settings customable ? like the on on zc3 xposed seraj mods ? or even close ?

Is the colour of the battery icon your top consideration before buying this phone ?
no, but since this phone cannot be properly rooted yet (TA backups and whole stuff) i want to know what are the available customization option
and i tend to stick as much as possible with a familial layout..
C;mon dont tell me you like the stock android battery more than sony one ... and you would not use it if it was available
so ... is this doable via stratum ? how about the quick settings dropdown ?

I use Substratum, yes, I'm pretty sure you can get a mod for your battery if you look, but it's not something I've even thought about.
Yes, you can customise your quicksettings.
Ok, thanks for the info....
Good day.
Has anyone had the oportunity to compare XZ1C vs XC SOT?
I am thinking in replacing my stupid Galaxy S8 and get a smaller phone.
Trying to decide between XC or XZ1C. I simply loved the battery life of my good old Z3 Compact
Thank you.

Not sure about the X compact, but I'm loving the battery on my XZ1 compact. Easily 7 hours SOT over a full day of use with no power saving options enabled. Probably more if I turned off location/used stamina mode. I had a oneplus 3t before that got half the battery life with the same usage. The XZ1 compact is more powerful with higher end features and will be supported longer by Sony, I'd recommend getting it over the older model if you can afford it.

For me the xz1c have the best battery life i ever had, I have 6h sot and 48h standby with only one charge. I used it as normally, some social media aps, all-time WiFi on, location off and adaptive screenlight, chrome for internet browsing and something like that. I really like the xz1c !

Haven't compared XZ1C and XC but on my XZ1C I can quite comfortably hit 7.5-8.5h SoT on a full charge over a days worth of use or about 12-13 hours. That's a really heavy hitter day for me.
But due to habit of plugging my phone in every night and taking my usage patterns into mind, I haven't had many "two day cycles" since getting the XZ1C to say anything definitive but with 36-48h standby times you should be able to get to the 5h SoT mark or beyond..
As far as the XC vs XZ1C goes, I wouldn't even bother with the XC if the XZ1C is on sale or for a competetive price.
I bought mine for 399€ with VAT or, funnily enough, about 399$ without VAT. At original asking price of 599€, I wouldn't have even considered buying this.
Seeing that you're from Portugal, you should be seeing similar prices as Europe does in general, XC should be around 270-300€ while XZ1C around 360-400€.
I don't know your financial situation but in my opinion the 100 euros or so you save by buying the XC instead of XZ1C isn't worth it. XZ1C came straight with Oreo so Treble out of the box which means updates will be somewhat easier for Sony in the future.
I don't know if XC got Treble when it got Oreo but highly unlikely as even the XZ's didn't get it (yeah, I know, it's optional for devices updating to Oreo). And it started from Marshmallow. Will it get Android P? I'm not gonna hold my breath, it has already seen it's two major Android version updates which seems to be the standard. And at this point it is already 18 months into the usual 24 month support cycle we see with Android phones.
Another thing to keep in mind is that the XC has the SD650..
It's built on an aging 28nm HPm manufacturing process where as the SD835 in the XZ1C is built on a much newer 10nm manufacturing process which is more efficient.
Then there's the less obvious stuff: SD650 uses LPDDR3 while SD835 uses LPDDR4X. Guess what, LPDDR4X is much more efficient.
As well as eMMC vs UFS. UFS obviously has higher performance but with it comes better efficiency as well.
Just for reference, you can take a look at Futuremark's database, in particular the PCMark Work 2.0 numbers.

Take the battery life numbers with lots of salt as people run the benchmark at different screen brightnesses and so on. But comparing these two to each other isn't that bad all things considered but still, take them with at least a grain of salt.

WOOW!
That is a very nice answer! No arguments against such detailed answer. Thank you.
I have no financial issues, came from a galaxy S8 and was happy with it quality wise, but found that the device is too big for my hand.
I decided i'm buying the xZ1C (it's arround 650€ in Portugal), but i'm afraid if i'm going to be disappointed with the quality of the phone.
With my Z3C had problems with the speaker and the screen, and don't want that anymore.
I'm no Samsung fanboy, and for me, Samsung is like Apple, a trend hype, but with Samsung phones never had any hardware problem.
I'm not a heavy user, some social apps, half an hour of browsing and gaming.
And it seems that xZ1C will be the last compact phone i'll buy. xZ2C is larger and thicker.

No sense paying 650 EUR for XZ1C.
You can register in Amazon.de (most of amazon.de page can be selected in English or may be Spain has it's own amazon.is?) and buy for 369-420EUR (need to sort which seller will be delivering to Portugal. 420 EUR is amazon.de selling themselves and they normally deliver all over EU). That will add another 20-30 EUR max.
I am from z3 compact. The screen is much better on XZ1C (bought from amazon.de and delivered to Lithuania). I even would say close to Samsung Amoleds...
I will hi-jack this thread only to ask two things.
How is the overall performance of this device?
I am currently using an Axon 7 and loving it but I feel like the SOT and size isn't optimal for me overall.
I tend to listen to music around 2-4 hours a day and have data on so I can surf the web, which is usually 1-2 through the whole day and lastly I tend to play simple games via retroarch and Fate Grand Order.
So basically SoT for me is 3h at best or 2h. Battery life tends to dip very fast when I have a game ongoing or listen to music+data on.

Hi to all.
I'm planing to by another phone. Budget is limited so there is not to much to pick.
Xperia seems good option because of big screen, LTE connectivity, premium design, important to me a very good camera and at the end is a flagship, but an old one, and that is my only concern.
So, my question is, should i by some newer(new) budget mid ranger or should give a try to Xperia Z? What is your experience with XZ?
Thanks
Ive had mine for a year now and do not intend to replace it any time soon. It runs all the current apps and games!
If your budget is tight, then get a Moto G, or OnePlus One or Nexus 5. Plenty of well specced devices around.

I bought mine 1 year and a half ago, and I can't be happier.
It's an excellent phone, great processor, ram, camera, water proof, design, development ( I had Lollipop from 1st day like a Nexus ), fullhd, 5"...
No need to spend 500€ to get a "rocket" smartphone.

Thanks guys for the reply, for now is tight.
I would like to hear more opinions of owners.
What about screen on time? Now when is for example more then one year old? I don't play heavy games, mostly surfing, taking pictures, little facebook, and a lot texting and calling. And flashing roms of course
For me everything over 3 hours is good.
U can get maximum of 4.5 hours if u r not a gamer ( my experience with games 4 hour screen on time).. May b u will get around 5 hours screen on time if u play with some tweaks..
I bought my XZ this last year in November and I couldn't be happier. Ok, screen on time is not the best out there but, at least for me, it's enough. SOT performance goes between 3-4,5 h, which IMHO I think isn't bad. You could also underclock/undervolt it in case you want to expand its autonomy a bit else.
It depends on the price you are getting at, I would say go for z1 if the price difference is minimal. I've used both, choose the one in your budget
dont buy a Sony phone, they about to go out of business lol
I suggest no.
Xperia Z has following cons:
- Back glas went off due to bad glue.
- CPU throtthling while gaming due to thermal problems, games start to stutter. Device is getting hot while gaming. On 4.4.4 it a little bit better.
- Wifi and Bluettooth disconnects. Search for forums with this problem. You will hate that problem when you decide to get a Smartband. There i no fix for that.
- Weak Battery. I heavily modified my stock rom with tweaks for longer lasting battery, i reduced wakelocks, etc, but still only 1,5 days only with normal use (i dont use LTE). It loses too much battery on standby.

So you came here from the HTC forum, proud of that you succeeded in unlocking the achievement? I find this behaviour a tiny bit bizarre, wondering what are you trying to prove? I mean, if you worship HTC, please remain in your little temple there. There's plenty of terrorist everywhere and nobody needs another one to come, terrorise Xperia or potential Xperia users.
Back on topic:
If you like Sony, just get another Xperia. They're not going out of business anytime soon as if anyone bothered to read, they're exploring (highly unlikely though) to start a jv or selling the business to another company. Of course if that happens, which have a remote chance, you're probably still be receiving smartphone support in the new business arrangement.

- Back glass just fine, over 1.5 years old
- Name one device that doesn't throttle (and doesn't stutter while throttled)
- Wifi and Bluetooth fine as long as you don't use a smartband
- Battery life is average, not really bad but nothing special either, standy is great with the right kernel
Thats my Xperience, no major problems so far.
But really better deals for the money out there.
I guess it depends on the price..
But in today's terms the XZ really isn't great. Like others have said, newer mid-range phones have overtaken the XZ.
Battery life has always been the only major drawback for me using the XZ. In this day and age you should be able to use your phone as much as you like, not holding off reading emails / replying to tweets otherwise it'll die before you get home
You're lucky to get 4 hours screen on time, it's not exactly efficient in standby mode either.
the amount of money you are going to spent just get One Plus One or if you are on budget cost wait till you got abit more money to get a better device
Well, it's a wonderful phone, the main issue with it is the battery
As others said if your gaming is at minimum (1 hour Max a day) you can actually get it to work 8 hours, even more if no gaming and used the stamina mode
Other than that, it's easy to root at all times and relatively easy to flash and customize.
And it will be officially update to lollipop.
I say if z1 is in your range get it only for the battery issue.. If not the XZ is great
Z is a great device.. But u can also buy 1+1 since it has Z2 specs and a better front cam.. It lacks Water resistance like XZ though and the multimedia features won't be like a SONY.. So choose ur needs first and then select the one suitable.. Although i haven't experienced any of the issues which are mentioned in the thread yet.. I hope i won't too.. But still my XZ can beat the s**t outta One M7 & all their desire phones, any iPhone, any S**tsung.. If you are a rough handler of the phone, i suggest u to buy XZ coz its built better and 1+1 seems kinda delicate compared to Sony..

lol what company hire this moron? he cant even finished a sentence correctly.
I most probably will take XZ if i get good offer. But also maybe wait for month or two to see what will came out.
I also considering to buy SGS4 but i prefer Sony over Samsung. Only reason to take S4 will be the battery life. But like i said before i can live with 3+ hours of sot. Currently i'm using LG O4X which have vary bad sot. 2:30 is max that i can get. And all kind of problems with RIL, it's really "demanding" device, thanks to developers i still using him, but i think not for long.
Thanks

Can you spell out some of those mid-range phones that are better than the XZ? my GF wants a new phone, and i cant seem to find a device thats as thin as the Z, has a fullHD 5" screen and 2gigs RAM and a 5.0 update for similar money...
this really isnt a sarcastic question. I just want to know what are those mid-range devices with these specs, so i can buy her a better phone and save some cash?
btw with heavy usage my Z never died on me until i came home(which means the whole day). im sorry if you use battery hogging apps that dont let your device sleep when you turn off the screen...
@Tommy-Geenexus
Do you really suggest that old spec phone to buy someone, with known not solved software problems on top of serious casing and thermal design flaws?
There are better options on the market. For that money you can have a LG G2 or a Galaxy S4 or a Honor 6 or One+ One.
Hello from North Carolina, US.
After carrying the Note 2 for two years, I am over the large phone form factor and was considering the Z3c back when it was released. But, I'm on Verizon (CDMA) and it just wasn't a good time to shift to TMobile. My Note 2 died, and I started carrying my wife's old Galaxy S3, which confirmed my preference for a smaller handset. Since my contract with Verizon is over in June, I figured I would carry the S3 until then, see what phones were announced at MWC and make my next phone decision based on that.
Frankly, for my use cases... MWC was MEH.
The S6/edge and HTC One M9 are both lovely phones, but I don't feel like they meet my needs as well as the Z3c. With the Z3c, I love the small form factor, the waterproofiness, the battery and the dedicated shutter button. Also, an S6 with as much storage as the SD card I already own will be hundreds of dollars more expensive than the Z3c.
That said, is it crazy to buy a 6 month old phone? Considering my use cases (primarily utilitarian - music, email, rss, news/weather, social, navigation, camera - no processor intensive games) and considering how surprisingly well the S3 is still running with these use cases at nearly three years old, I am thinking the Z3c may still be a good fit for me. And, I don't want to wait as long as the rumors are saying I would need to wait for the Z4 series (autumn 2015).
What about you, would you still buy the Z3c today? Do you think, based on how I've described my uses, that it would be a good fit for me? Is there another small form factor device I should be considering? Should I suck it up and wait for autumn and the Z4's?
Thanks in advance for your thoughts on this.
Cheers

For sure I'd still buy the Z3C today.
You're using your wife's S3 which is over 3 years old, so calling a 6 month old phone 'old' is kind of bs (No offense @ all)
As for the Z4, well.... there is no word about a Z4C and based on what Sony previously did, there shouldn't be a Z4C, but a Z5C (if ever).
The Z3C is a great phone, besides the occasional build flaws and bad camera under low light conditions.
That's great feedback, thank you.

None taken. The last 5 phones I've bought for myself or my wife have been purchased within 2 weeks of release, sometimes by me standing in line on release day. I buy them early, use them for 2 years when I can contractually upgrade and get a new one and start the cycle over. I typically use a phone for two years and it starts to feel "old" to me at ~18-20 months when a couple new cycles of phones and android versions have been released. My concern is not that the phone is "old" now, rather that, being 6 months old now, it may start to feel old at 12-14 months rather than 18-20.
Btw, I followed your photo link from another post of yours. Like you comments here, your sample photos are really helpful.
Thanks again

I typically use a phone for two years and it starts to feel "old" to me at ~18-20 months when a couple new cycles of phones and android versions have been released. My concern is not that the phone is "old" now, rather that, being 6 months old now, it may start to feel old at 12-14 months rather than 18-20.
Btw, I followed your photo link from another post of yours. Like you comments here, your sample photos are really helpful.
Thanks again

Well I don't know, in terms of specs I don't see much changing any time soon, unless all manufacturers decide to make 64bit phones or use a new type of battery that either lasts long and/or charges super fast.
In the end as long as you're doing 'normal' things the phone should be your companion for at least 2 years without you really noticing a difference between your phone and other people's.
Z3 and Z3 compact are best options on android right now.
implying you don't want a phablet.
new phones like GS6 and ONE M9 are cool but you can find a Z3 for 500€/$ and a Z3C for 400, (gs6 and one ~750$)
you'll have same software 5.0.2 with better UI, and better battery, only the camera will be a bit behind but still excellent.
so unless you have money to waste just go for it it's a good deal
I love my z3 compact but if I were to buy a new phone now, I would get the galaxy s6 edge.
The biggest issue I have with the z3c is the speaker. Currently if I am in a semi loud surrounding, I can hardly hear the other person on the line.
Sent from my D5803 using XDA Free mobile app
As usual it depends on what you need. Me personally there is no other phone than the Z3c atm. Size/hardware/design... its perfect for me.
So if you're looking for a smaller phone (one hand use) with excellent battery life and fast hardware just go for it there is nothing that comes even close in that department.
I'm very torn right now, I'm frustrated that I would have to use the bloated stock software to get decent camera quality (no barrel distortion and better low light) and that CM12, while it runs decently doesn't support the features locked away by DRM. I'm contemplating reverting back to a Nexus 5...I think my biggest issue would be the camera, I thought it would be superb but in reality it only matches my nexus considering the distortion. And Sony's DRM and bootloader locking nonsense seems ridiculous to me.

That's easy...the hard part is losing all the customizations. I went to stock 5.0.2 rooted, system R/W support isn't there, I lose all sorts of little features like expanded desktop, quick unlock, navigation customization...

Rw is already fixed though you wont like the process if you want to Stay on locked bl. Those features will be implemented either by Sony or more likely xposed working. Just give it some time

Pretty sure Sony is done with us after this update, minus maybe a couple security patches there won't be any new features. I already tried CM12 for a good month, just couldn't stand the camera and the bugs were a bit too much for a DD. Hoping for xposed and working recoveries on lollipop...that's about all I can do right now.

Let's see... The Xperia Z that has been released for about 2 years also received the Lollipop update, why would you think that Sony would stop update a phone that's just been out 6 month's. Can you please tell me your logic?

Nice Features
There are some things which are so nice. Most of the new phones arent waterproof. Phones are getting bigger and bigger. But the z3c is smaller but quite good.
I certainly would buy the Z3C again, the biggest gripe I have is the lack of Quality Case choices. Great phone IMO, size, battery, speed and takes above average pictures(Auto mode) and if you take the time to use the manual settings it can take excellent pictures.
So far, Sony Z3C has no real competition. In android world. I just bought one.

Well with the persisting rumors that Sony is either scaling back or dropping their mobile division...I just have a gut feeling.
And I guess I changed my mind. Just ordered a replacement Nexus 5 like my old one. I will miss the size and it is a sharp looking phone, but the broken features that can never be fixed (mostly camera stuff) and the DRM nonsense really turned me off of this phone. I may be an oddball but I just don't like that I'm missing all the little customizations and things on CM12 when I'm on stock, and Xposed will probably only fix about half of those features. Miss Privacy Guard, Quick unlock, all that good stuff. And I just don't like the UI design choices. Plus all the no-name "device reporting" and "anonymous reporting" services running in the background that can't be disabled.
I'm sure in a few months CM12 will have the microphone & other issues ironed out, but what's the point of having a 20MP camera that has distortion and poor image quality that (from what I've read) can never be fixed in an AOSP rom?
I would recommend it to my fiancee that doesn't use her phone for much more than texting and Youtube, but not for a tinkerer like myself.
FOR SURE! Unless you want to wait for a Z4 Compact to even be announced, and then eventually come out, I'd say the Z3 Compact remains the best phone at it's size from anyone, still to this day. The Galaxy S5 Mini just came out recently, and it's a Snapdragon 400! The Z3 Compact has a great, waterproof build, MicroSD, Camera Button, and 801 processor. Nothing else comes close unless you're okay with a leviathan of a phone I love my Z3 Compact and really do not desire a new phone or ever again something larger...
Would definitely still buy again. Just ticks so many boxes that other devices don't (size, speed, battery, microSD, camera). It really has no competition. I'm not sure we'll see a Z4 compact at all - doubt z3 compact is a big seller and with Sony in such a mess, they may just focus on the Z4. If that happens, we're in bad shape for fully spec'd < 5" Android devices. The good news is that the hardware is advancing so slowly now, the z3c will probably be a viable platform for quite awhile.
My Galaxy S4 (two generations old!) still runs CM12 perfectly fine. It's an SD600!
Hey guys I'm about to buy a refurbished Xperia Z from Amazon, but I'd like you guys to give me some advice. Do you recommend me? My main concerns are battery, display(they say blacks are grayish), camera and sound. I come from a galaxy s3 and lumia 640 XL(maybe someone has/had one of these smartphones and could give me some thoughts). I suppose the performance is great. I also noticed the device has some pretty good community and development(which the s3 lacks a bit)-which is also very important to me... am I right? Also, how does AOSP-based lollipop(may I dare and also say marshmallow ) run on it? Sorry guys for too many questions and also sorry for my english.
Best regards!!
What can I say...
FIRST- if you're buying it for $100 or less maybe it is till a good deal, otherwise maybe it is better to see at other low-to-mid-range
SECOND- yes, the performance is good, even better with lollipop, screen looks better now (maybe sonybravia got better, maybe because lollipop has more white in it and the white is being displayed better), but anyway you have to UNDERCLOCK it in order to get a decent battery life
THIRD- battery life is very disappointing, you HAVE to underclock it and root it and greenify it to get any good battery life, unless you can charge it every 12 hours
FOURTH - the device is getting older and so the interest in this device (im talking about support from devs)
FIFTH - the phone gets hot, like really really hot when you're using it playing games (unless you underclock it), and since the back cover is only a adhesive line, when it gets hotter with the help off the Nfc antenna (which is set to push against the backcover) the backcover gets up and looses its waterproofness
SIX- the flaps - the damn flaps- they're everywhere - and you need to open them every-time you charge the phone, put on the headphones, remove the sim, remove the microSD, and they tend to get loose with time especially the one of the charger since you need to charge it frequently
NOW... that I told you about it downsides, its not a bad phone nowdays, it has a big and very beautiful display, connectivity is like the best i've ever tried, performance is pretty good (cpu + gpu ), camera performs really well - especially in macro, dev support for now is good.
Overall for someone who has it I think it can take another one or two years, but I personally would not buy it unless I find it for cheap or cannot buy a used phone. Personally I would look into a HTC M8 or a LG G3, maybe even used.

Thank you so much for your elaborated answer You really made me think about it.
FIRST- it costs me about $160(in a very good condition) and I really can't pay any more than this for a smartphone. It's actually a pretty good deal for what it normally costs in my country. If you/somebody could recommend me a better phone for this price point(taking into consideration the development community)...
SECOND- good to know.
THIRD- well I have to say it sounds dissapointing. Underclocking...doesn't sound that good to me... although I'd have no problem using greenify. 12 hours with 4g on? What's the usage?(heavy...moderate...)
FOURTH- this is the first thing I look when looking for an android device. If it doesn't allow custom ROMs and doesn't have a decent community behind then I don't buy it.
FIFTH- the "gettin really hot" thing sounds also really dissapointin. I'm not a heavy gamer but I do like to play graphic-intensive games from time to time. So is it really that annoing? About the waterproofness... really not important to me.
SIX- pretty annoing huh? Especially the headphones thing. What if you cut them out? You think there'd be any inconvenience on doing this aside from loosing the waterproof thing(and design of course)?
Well... so yeah some bad news for me here. But I can't find a decent phone wich also has community behind for this price. And another which makes me go for it are the 2GB of RAM.
So I wait for some other answers too guys

Buying today XZ is stupid... seriously.
When I bought my XZ price of Z1compact was almost the same and it still is, its 20$-30$ difference for most of time(New XZ cost about 180$ z1c 200$)
And for that price you can buy WAY better phones, starting from Galaxy S4 to LG G series. And you want to stick to Sony you can get even z1 or used z2
As far as I love this phone I would not recommend it to anyone, battery is below average, camera is worst than my old Arc S, and those cover flaps are pain in the A##
This is best example of phone that look good, but those small bugs in everyday usage make it annoying to use...
And yes I still use it :] Because after using new phones... I found out that most of them are the same: average battery, and looots of small bugs that make them annoying after some time. So I decide to change phones once per 3-4 years...
Info
For that price NO! Performance with LP is good, camera not so good even with LP. Didnt have issues with overheating, connectivity is good. Screen and colors looks pretty nice for me.

Well,
ONE - if you want a phone with good Dev community support and with that budget you'll have to take a look at ex-flagship devices, like HTC One M7 (this one remains IMHO one of the best devices ever), LG G2(very good camera from what I've been told, and powerful cpu), Samsung Galaxy S4(well because it is a Samsung and everybody has one so many developers...)
THREE - Underclock means you lower the frequency of the Cpu (example. it goes from 1.5 Ghz quad-core to 1.1 Ghz quad-core), I like more uncerclock than greenify, and underclocking at 1.1 Ghz in my opinion gives the best performance/battery life/heat ratio. Usage is normal, 1 hour browsing; 1 hour listening to songs (in 3g, even when 4g is available I disable it); 1 hour 9gag and gets at evening with 30-35%...
FOUR - many custom roms for now, and quality is really good, im using currently the 5.1.1 modified and runs pretty good.
FIVE- when you underclock (which I recommend!) you give your device better battery life but also it heats less. If you don't mind the waterproofness then it's better because I wouldn't call Waterproof a really thin bezel of adhesive (They're crazy !!!)
SIX- yeah, they're annoying but anyway you can live with that, and design is really good and would be a shame if you removed them.
So my list woud be;
1.Htc One m7
2.Lg g2
3.Samsung S4 or Xperia Z
(and btw where do you live? maybe i can see smth for you)

It seems the decision is getting harder and harder, although I already bought it because I don't wanna loose the deal. It's not available anymore at this price after buying it. I'm waiting for it to arrive in about two days I'll test it and if it doesn't satisfy me I'll return it.
ONE - Those devices are about $50 more expensive.
THREE - Maybe underclock could do the job, but will it still run smooth at lets say 1.2ghz? Anyway I think for the usage you described the battery doesn't sound that bad.
FOUR - Yeah, I'm looking at the hacking section and I'm stunned
FIVE - well, I'll happily underclock it if it doesn't affect performance too much. Maybe setting to the normal clock when gaming. And for the waterproofness thing... I'm shocked Anyway... I don't mind.
SIX - I guess...
From those devices you mentioned the only one I can afford is the Xperia Z. I really can't pay more than that for a device.
So, do you think I should buy a low end device from this or last year like the moto g 2014? I'm scared of the 1GB of RAM.
I live in Spain and price is a bit high here in Europe. I can buy from Amazon.es/fr/de/it... but I think I only have two options: buy a low-end device with no support from community or an exflagship device with support like the Xperia Z. I also think having 2GB of RAM is important right? I can't spend more than 150€/$160... ad I guess I'm asking too much from a device for this price. I really appreciate your help.

Moto G (2nd generation) doesn't stand a chance to Xperia Z!
XZ has better specs, better screen, better CPU, more Ram, more internal memory ecc.
Yes, the Moto G (2nd generation) is being updated to Marshmallow but really with all the support from the Dev's we can still get unofficial AOSP Marshmallow Roms.
PS.: one more thing, I currently live in Italy and in big cities it is really easy to find used phones from people that sell them at a local website. I've been checking the prices for some time because I wanted to get a better phone and phones like the LG G3 go as low as 200 euro. Htc One M7 can be found for 150 euro in really good condition, one thing is that you don't have warranty, only if they give you the bill of the phone, then it is as you had bought it(be careful though not giving you a printed bill from the internet.) if you can live with that, that would get you a really good phone with low money.

Yeah, XZ specs are really impressive for me, but the problems mentioned worry me. The screen seems a bit poor to me from what I read. Maybe the Moto G has a better screen and battery(camera also? I doubt it). Anyway... the XZ is on its way and I can't wait to test it!!!
The biggest problem I have with buying a used phone from people is, aside from the warranty- which is also important, the fact that I can't return it if it doesn't satisfy me. Thank God for Amazon!! lol :victory:

Dear All,
I am Planning to Buy Sony XZ1 Compact, please share your feedback it is worth to buy in 2020?
No more Android updates (including security updates) is the major drawback.
It's still a very good phone (the best suited for my needs) with decent CPU, IO speed and connectivity. If you buy a new one then good battery life is also a strong point of this model.
Are they available to buy somewhere (as brand new)?

Thanks for the answer, yes available in my city (Gulf Countries)
I am a little bit confused for Battery because nowadays every cell has 4000+ mAh battery, xz1c will give same as a big battery or not
You buy XZ1c because it's one of the last compact smartphones with decent parameters, not for the biggest battery on the market!
I don't know a lot of 4000+ mAh phones and for sure not a single small phone with such big battery. XZ1c will give you 2 days with all features on and about 6-8 hours of screen on. 3 days if you use it more lightly and full single day if you use it extremely (except you encounter some appplication or problem with unnatural battery drain). It's best battery life/size ratio I've ever experienced with smartphones.

I'll take the thicker bezels, the XZ1C is a better design and a more beautiful device than the XZ2C.
I was ready to respond affirmatively; it's an excellent phone. But, you say: "..for my mother, she is using only for calling and sometimes WhatsApp." I'd say no only because the XZ1 compact -at least in the US - has retained its value remarkably well. I think mine is excellent and would miss it dearly. I believe it was when new, and still is, peerless, given its size and features, and I've been waiting for prices to drop to get a backup. That day has not come; I'd have to pay about what I paid for a new one in 2017. For simply calls and occasional wassup, I'd look for a more economical option.
The last Android software and security update for this phone is Android 9, Sept 2019. New updates are not to be expected.
If this is no issue for you, then the XZ1 compact is a nice, powerful and nicely compact smartphone.
Pulled the trigger on one today
My Z5 compact is getting kinda old, doesn't seem to connect as reliably as I think it should and the xz1C is almost the only small form factor phone I can find with good stats and 3.5mm jack. I grabbed one new at cell2get for just under $400. That price is nuts to me for a 3 year old phone but I can't find anything I like as much. This'll be my 4th xperia compact phone so I guess I'm a fan boy at this point.
Now I have to figure out what all to do to it once it comes in.
I don't fool with phones too much except when I have a new oneevery few years... spend a month or so learning about it and how to get it set up the way I want (so I can run Titanium Backup and ADW launcher and my pointless but cute Buffguff icons) which usually means rooting it. Not really looking forward to fooling with all that with the xz1. I've not started but I hope it's not too much of a pain. :fingers-crossed:
Anyway, yeah if you can get it new, grab one. Bestest phones around!
Oh...Thanks for all who helped me, actually I decided to buy because I get near 100 USD
I don't wanna buy again stuff before of 5 years and I hope it will get support for Android 10.
What is the best buy? All of these are in a range of 259 - 179 Euro. I saw that the Z3 C even if it is very old is the best in weight and measure which I was looking for, it also has not that privacy horror of digital reading and irid scan etc... which I despise.
Please can anyone help me especially in terms of Android upgrade as I can't last long with Android 6-7 nor 8 and also 9 won't be good enough for long I guess.
Tons of incompatibilities start to come out and I don't know also if the Z3C is ok to support a Android 10 with 2 Gb RAM and apps installed or if the same is true for the other 2 phones.
I know that Sony is not in good waters in terms of mobiles compartment... they might even close it... but the phones should stay good maybe for 5+ years, I guess. (?)
Obviously below is personal opinion, but here it is.
Xz1 if you could get it. But many versions of the phone sold on ebay are refurbished units sold as new. You can get Android 10 though. But do u really want a refurbished phone. Read the buyer reviews of the seller, there are negative reviews of purchases stated as new, but actually referb.
X compact you can get a real new unit for super cheap. Half the price of xz1c. It's specs, camera etc are good enough. Just it's latest Android is 8 officially, 9 with root.
For me, I would go with x compact. Because I want a truly new unit.
I won't choose z3, because it does not have USB c, and it's camera is slightly below average. It's a flat, dull camera. Admittedly it's size and software support is best, but USBc and can are deal braker for me in 2020.
Yes It's very hard to get it new. Thanks. I am going for the X Compact mostly probably. Infact an android 10 capable I can understand could last very very longer than a android 8 capable, maybe if I get the X Compact to 9 (I doubt it will) I will be able to keep it for 5 years at least. For me the consumerism, sorry is really a horrible sickness people have.
It's like watching war and saying, it's ok. it's normal.
I really appreciate your answer, it's so sad to be alone asking for support but no answer here and there
I hope i can get or the x1c or the x c, and also I dnt know what will be the result of the upgrade to 10 or to 9 respectively speaking. I heard it can lead to "breaking" also warming up etc.
Stuff my note 3 did constantly, also battery was dead in a few minutes, also changed batteries.. bah... I just know that they need to stay away from the sun, away from humidity, away from dust,.. just like pc, away from magnetic "storm" or sources... often stuff we criticize is caused by our use.
I also ignore if actually phones need to be kept between 15% and 80% always.. never allowing battery to go below. Only in the first day a super charge need to be given (keeping the phone for 24-48 h switched off and at 100 ...keeping on charging.
Thanks I got the X Compact, i really like that it is small, i know it's not good to watch videos as it can really ruin eyes a small screen, but I promise myself I am not gonna use it for that much.
... Got it for 185 Euro.. no way to get it for lower price new...
Glad I can jump from 5.0.2 of my note 3 now broken to the 8... I hope i can also jump to 9, but I have no idea if this is doable without risking a lot...\ instability etc.

I didn't see this until now. X Compact is the right choice. I love the XZ1C - it has the best hardware, performance, and Android 10 support right now. But unfortunately not possible to have GCam HDR and raw image support on it, that's a deal breaker to me. Also, it's a lost more expensive than the XC currently.
I use the XC as my current device, it requires tweaking to set it up correctly but if you spend time testing, you can get a lot out of it.
Hey thanks, it's coming home, and I am thankful. I was a stupid to break the note 3. It's strange, now it seems to consume battery much slower then before... ok whatever. I use it like a music player now as I work in the outdoors or do sports alone these days.
I really hope the tweaking (If necessary - maybe the android 9 version might be needed in the future if not immediately) doesn't brick or damage it, it would be a horror (I know many do this when it's out of warranty (2 years would be since we are lucky in EU, much better treatment than US or other places) if it breaks.
I'd love to learn also and maybe be able to go back to 8th (to which supposedly it will update autonomously to) how one should do this updates and decide how or when it's the time to do that. Also my note was over heating .. some say that this happens when some app is spying etc... probably bugged by police or gangs. I dnt know, I know that we are all targets.
I just hope I can put a cover on the lenses (I used a idraulic tape on the note and the cover was doing the rest) I know how much privacy breaking those open lens can be. I dnt have nothing to hide, I am just aware how precious privacy is (so many aren't)... and it's not phobia. I just think all need to work and do their little to keep it good for all in the future.
Sorry for the long message. I really am looking forward to learn some stuff, maybe I can share with others I meet on my path and redirect them here.
Thanks, and take care.
